  • "Just a few minor things (some of which Trip Advisor shows have been mentioned before) … not things that had a big impact: 1) it is true that the taps are fiddly."

I tried carefully to establish the correct / optimum running speeds but, even when I thought I’d mastered it, I still got suddenly sprayed a few times. 2) the sofa is old and saggy. A new one would be more comfortable, perhaps. 3) instructions - on how to get terrestrial channels, for those of us unfamiliar with Sky etc - would be good. I could have found Gael for help … but it wasn’t that important, just occasionally annoying. I used Netflix and was happy with that. 4) a medium sized ceramic / Pyrex flat bottom dish would have been good. Thank you.

Thank you Debbie. The couch and armchair are being replaced this Saturday, as they were old. Property Owner

  • "An excellent choice for this area."

The three mile road from the main road gave just enough remoteness and privacy for our privacy and seclusion from heavy traffic. It did add to the travel times to places of interest but not excessively. One cannot have both. Bird watching was limited in the immediate area although cuckoos were very vocal. Access down the hill to the Jetty was a brisk walk but there was no beach for those who may wish to use one. Everything installed worked well for us although 'instruction' books for the equipment would have been very useful. Never used the TV set up as we had no idea how it worked although as we do not have one at home it was a 'nice' to have rather than a crying need. All in all the place was quite charming but in need of a good carpenter to fix door closings.

The Wee Barn was fully equipped with all you needed with an extensive Welcome Pack provided on arrival which was much appreciated. Lovely location and views. Very comfortable bed and the Wee Barn was cosy and warm. The only down side was the springs in the settee were gone which made it a little uncomfortable. We would recommend the Wee Barn 100%.

  • "If we were only staying one or two nights, the wee barn would have been fine for a quick stop."

We stayed a week and then found the uncomfortable bits. Small things perhaps, but they grated after a while. The kitchen faucet that spit water. No hot water out of the kitchen and bathroom faucets except for barely tepid once a day. The electric shower was fine though so we could have somewhere hot to wash hands. The underfloor heating in the bedroom was wonderful but did not extend to the living room where, even with the woodstove, it was cold. The wifi was fine but we had no phone service. The kettle was made to look pretty but was hazardous to use - the lid would fall off when it was poured. The hob worked well but there were no labels to indicate which burner was being turned on.

Thank you for your comments as no guest has ever pointed these out to me before. I had a plumber and electrician come out to check the property yesterday. The water pressure is high but not excessively so but caused your spit. The water heater is in perfect working order and only if you run the taps too fast would fail to keep up the heating process. There is an spare electric heater in the bedroom cupboard if you wish for extra warmth or do not wish to light the stove. I am afraid being the Highlands we do have lots of mountains which limits the mobile phone signal but the WIFI enables the use of Whats App and messenger which are free. The kettle lid is secure and tight and does not fall off. Each hob burners glow red when turned on which would indicate that it is on. Kind regards from The Wee Barn Property Owner

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we felt totally at home and so comfortable. The Wee Barn was super clean and cosy and was everything we had hoped for. The Welcome Pack was great and literally saved our bacon as we hadn't been able to get essentials in before arriving. The owner, Gael, was equally welcoming and lovely but not intrusive and was there to help if needed. The view from the cottage was breathtaking morning, noon and night and just sitting watching the little boat scurry back and forth to Scoraig was such a pleasure..the mountains, the loch and the sea changing with the weather. It was magical...we have certainly left a piece of our hearts there and we cannot wait to 'Haste ye back'.

Left alone by the owner despite only being next door which is good and helpful when required. Only negative comment is a better heating alternative required for the front room when we don't want to light the stove, for example at breakfast. A small, remote cottage in the Western Highlands in the grounds of the owners house (Gael is friendly and welcoming), nearest town (Ullapool) about a 40 minute drive away, this small barn conversion has windows on just one side - overlooking Little Loch Broom where seals were seen on the rocks at the bottom of the lane, wild deer in the local fields and an eagle nearby! Quirky electricity arrangement which added to the charm (coin meter with reusable coins that drop into a box). Small kitchen, as expected, with natural light supplemented by a glazed fixed roof window. Could possibly benefit from a microwave (but not a showstopper) with shops a drive away it takes some planning! Comfortable double bed with duvet and the room has adequate cupboard and drawer space.
