  • "We had a wonderful week."

Very clean and comfortable . 10 out of 10 for attention to detail. Lots of wood for the lovely woodburner. Several National Trust places nearby, and close enough to get to the sea, West wittering well worth a visit and their cafe. Would not hesitate to recommend and when in the area would like to stay again. Thank you and best wishes.

  • "We had a really great stay at The Roost over Christmas."

The property has everything you need and is a lovely space to relax in after a long country walk. Comfortable beds to provide a restful nights sleep in the quiet surroundings. We loved the wood burner and there were plentiful logs which we greatly appreciated. The enclosed garden was great for our dog to stretch her legs and there was a lovely field across the garden where she could have a really good run around off the lead and plenty more walks beyond to keep her happy! The children loved playing in the garden and especially on the trampoline. Very welcoming hosts who made sure we had everything we needed. The peacocks roaming around are great to watch and especially when they fly down from the trees each morning, something we had not seen before. We all had a super stay and are already missing the wonderful surroundings!

  • "Very nice property and location."

Enjoyable few days stay. The directions to the property however were not very good. Needed to access the b&b website to get proper directions, were stuck in a layby wondering if we were going to find it. Apart from that, a lovely stay!

When you walk into the house you feel immediately at home. Also because the kitchen is fully equipped. There are even towels, coffee etc. We loved to stay in such a beautiful home. The surroundings and garden are soo nice and a restful place. You can go for a walk in the woods. My son loved the woodburner. The beds are very good, the bathroom has a bath and seperate shower. A perfect place to relax. The owners are very friendly and hospitable people. The Roost worth repeating!

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at the roost, such lovely surrounding countryside and hours of entertainment from the peacocks, the chalet was delightful, and so comfortable, only complaint we had was there was no information booklet, as there is in so many cottages we have stayed in, otherwise all was as advertised and we had a wonderful week there."

Thank you Alistair and Mary Daphne goodenough

We felt very looked after by the owners who supplied plentiful wood for the log burner and allowed us to walk around their grounds which are beautiful with peacocks and woodpeckers in evidence. Nice walks around and 30 mins from Soon / Portsmouth.

About the location

ALRESFORD

Winchester 7.6 miles, Basingstoke 15 miles, Guildford 30 miles

The Georgian market town of Alresford is made up of the village of Old Alresford mentioned in the Doomsday Book and the main town of New Alresford and in the 1860’s was connected to London by a railway line that was used to transport Watercress that the town was widely famous for producing. The line became known as the “Watercress Line” and still runs between Alresford to Alton through the picture perfect Hampshire countryside. Now this quiet and pretty town is the perfect place for a gentle stroll, where the colour-washed Georgian houses, independent and specialist shops are mixed with characterful pubs, modern eateries and traditional tea rooms. Enjoy the Riverside Walk where you will find the Fulling Mill built in the 13th century or visit the Old Alresford Pond that is home to an abundance of wildlife including otters and wildfowl.
