You can sit relaxing for hours looking at the view. The fire looked great but we didn't need it as weather was warm despite mid September and due to be wet. The Local pub is great for meals and drinks. Loads to do in the area whether you are an active hiker/canoeist or a passive explorer of historic towns. We will hopefully go back for a longer stay.

  • "A super property, with far reaching views."

Furniture and furnishings all enhance the impression of comfort and it was lovely to have a cup of tea or glass of wine and just watch the scenery from the huge window. Any queries we had were immediately responded to by the owner, who gave us lots of helpful tips and recommendations for places to visit too. Obviously, the property does need a car to access further travel, but once back onto the main roads, it was extremely easy to reach Ross, Hay, Monmouth, Ledbury, Malvern and Hereford etc. Transport links further into Wales were easily accessed too. We also had several drinks and a meal in the local pub-The Royal Arms. The owner was very hospitable. A tasty breakfast in the friendly cafe, Woods, in Whitchurch was a great start to one of our day trips too. Apparently, they do good cakes! Overall, apart from two soggy days, we've had a great week and the apartment was certainly a nice place to avoid bad weather! We didn't have time to use the swimming pool but it looked enticing.

  • "The property was comfortable and adequately equipped but our stay was completely ruined by the presence of a wasp’s nest in the roof of the property."

There weren't just a few wasps there were hundreds of them. We couldn't open the windows in order to keep the wasps out and with the weather being hot and stuffy it made the interior of the property very uncomfortable when we were there. We had to exit and enter the property at breakneck speed in order to prevent wasps getting in through the door. I should add that both my wife and I have been brought up in semi-rural areas so would expect there to be some insects around a property in a rural area such as this one. However, this was different. We had to deal with quite a few wasps that had gained access to the inside. The owner had tried to deal with the situation by putting powder round the nest entrance. It didn't really work. The nest entrance was just above a second entrance door out through the main bedroom. This had to be used in order to leave the property secure. The owner should have got a pest controller in to have the nest removed altogether. If the time scale was such that this couldn't be done before or during the time of our stay, then some form of compensation should have been offered to acknowledge the inconvenience and discomfort caused. No compensation or even apology has been offered and I am writing this review two weeks after our departure from the property. I have given both Sykes and the owner plenty of time to address my complaint in a meaningful way. Sykes don't seem to be able to do anything about the situation. The owner doesn't seem to care that he charged us full price for a four-night stay that was seriously affected by the wasp infestation. It's' not a matter of city types causing a fuss but of being unhappy at being charged full price for a very substandard and unenjoyable experience. I will not be booking any of this owner's properties in the future or using Sykes site for any other properties.

So relaxing just to sit and look through that fabulous window. It was immaculately presented and very spacious, and catered for everything we needed. Ian & Sally - the owners who lived in the cottage next to the property were very nice and helpful people. The shared pool was also very welcome as we had some very hot days! Some lovely walks straight out of the cottage, as well as being located close to numerous beautiful walks along the River Wye, around Symonds Yat, the Forest of Dean, and Goodrich Castle. We also visited Monmouth which was lovely. An absolute bonus, was the very friendly local pub in Llangrove, less than a five minute walk from The Lookout. All in all a lovely, relaxing holiday in beautiful accommodation and stunning surroundings. We will definitely be back.

  • "The Lookout was beautiful and Ian, the owner, was kind and helpful and even sorted me out when I got lost on my way there."

There were lots of extra unexpected touches like delicious cake and everything to make a cuppa on arrival, slippers and shower cap in shower room and unlimited fuel and help with the log burner. The best bit though was the wonderful countryside view from the triangle window at the end of the property. There are smashing walks straight from the door, though walking boots or wellies were needed in November, and poles a good idea as it is quite hilly and some of the paths are a bit stony. The paths are well sign posted and I had some great walks. The pub is not far down a country lane but the shop is 2 miles down a hill so really needs the car. It was well stocked, did the freshest battered Friday fish and chips that I have had away from the coast and a good choice of homemade scones, cakes and pastries. The only downside for me were the narrow, single track lanes which seem common over the whole area, but everywhere around here is so beautiful that it is well worth it.

Stunning views and spacious rooms. Ian is a great host and made us feel very welcome. A lot of ‘dog friendly’ places still make you feel like having your dog there is an inconvenience but not here. Our dog got a big cuddle and played with their spaniels as well as their other guest Labrador. The Llangrove has a lovely pub serving tasty food and it’s only a short drive to Symonds Yat and lots of other beautiful walks. Top location and cottage!

  • "The Lookout is a lovely spot."

However, our relaxation and enjoyment were negatively impacted due to the unexpected proximity of the property to the property of the owners. While we expected to share the pool with the adjacent holiday let, it was not clear we would also be sharing with the owners. Our shower did not work on arrival. It was fixed but there was no apology. The owners also had a dog staying over which took exception to our dog. Coming soon after the broken shower the owners told us ‘they would make it up to us’. They didn’t. The lack of decent cutlery (mentioned in another review) and the lack of a fan in a studio during a long forecast heatwave, further undermined the welcome.

So sorry you had some issues whilst staying with us. The pool is shared with us and the other holiday let, it is a big space and easily accommodates this. Our house is on the grounds too, this is shown on the property pictures and layout and has not been a problem for anyone else. We are very dog friendly! The area and our field is ideal for dogs, we obviously do have other dogs here , as well as our own dogs and owners are usually aware of this and it is not a problem usually. Occasionally we have a maintenance problem as anywhere would have, the bonus of us being on site is that any issue is dealt with swiftly as you have said it was, within hours in this case. We are mindful of any comments on things like equipment etc and constantly review and update , there are fans now available for heatwaves and the cutlery has been renewed. Please accept our apology for your issues. Property Owner

Sorry you had some issues. We welcome feedback… we constantly update and replace bedding and equipment, obviously whether you like what we provide is subjective and open to personal taste , our guests are usually very pleased with the accommodation as you can see from the feedback and we are careful to maintain the standard. • "The Lookout was amazing, just what we needed and more!"

Arriving to the fire burning, milk in the fridge ready to make a coffee and cake to go with it to sit and enjoy the view after our journey from Leeds was just the perfect personal touch. Ian was so welcoming and helpful with his knowledge of the area and recommendations of where to go. We explored Symonds Yak, tried the local pub (food was lovely), went for a walk through Forest of Dean, visited Monmouth and then enjoyed nights in front of the fire in what can only be described as somewhere that felt like home. Superb facilities. Definitely somewhere we want to come back to!

  • "We had an amazing time."

The Lookout is an excellent, spacious, modern and comfortable space with a great view from the huge window in the lounge. The log burner is brilliant and we could easily just sit there all day looking at the fire and view outside. However it's also very close to Wye Valley with lots of places to explore.

Would certainly recommend, Ian is lovely and couldn't do enough for us (even allowed us to stay later than the usual checkout on our last morning)

  • "Thank you so very much to Ian and Sally for being so friendly and welcoming, and providing us such a lovely place to stay!"

The apartment is beautiful, and with the wood burner going it was an incredibly cosy place to stay even on the coldest nights. The view from the picture window is absolutely gorgeous, and we could have quite easily spent the days just watching the beautiful valley below. In the end though we decided to go out and explore, and thankfully Ian was able to give us really good advice on where to go and what to see so we didn't miss out on anything! Can't wait to do back!
