  • "Grove cottage is absolutely beautiful and located in a lovely village just nicely tucked away from the coop and local pub."

The cottage has a lovely enclosed outside area which was great for sitting/eating out in the sunshine. It has all the facilities you need and the beds are really comfy . We had a great stay and would highly recommend.

There is no parking with the cottage, which isn't clear in the details. Parking is opposite the cottage by the church which wasn't a problem for us, however, this may not be the case in high season. Andrew, the owner, was very helpful and sorted out any minor issues very quickly.

  • "A really lovely cottage with every thing you need."

One of the cleanest rental properties I've been in, so well done Andrew and Sarah :) Fun using an Aga for the first time; it really isn't that difficult once you apply general cooking and slow cooking methods. I used the simmering oven for both a risotto and a chilli and both were perfect meals. Lots of good walking and sightseeing within a hour or so's drive, depending on where you want to go. Coop 1 mins walk or a very good Tesco in Hexham. Excellent butchers in the square which I used. We didn't meet Sarah but met Andrew on a few occasions; always ready for a chat and enquiring how we were finding our stay. Keep on doing what you're doing Andrew and Sarah. We had a lovely time. Thank you :)

It is decorated and equipped to a very high standard. The cottage is close to the local amenities and to the historic town of Hexham . The village of Corbridge is also worth a visit. From the cottage there are some lovely riverside walks. It is a perfect setting for exploring the Northumbrian countryside. We would say at the cottage again.

  • "Grove Cottage is lovely and very well situated."

It was clean, very comfortable and very well equipped. Lots of parking, the local pubs were welcoming and the food was good even for a fussy vegetarian like myself. The only issues we had were the microwave being in a cupboard on the floor so it needed lifting onto the worktop to use. I know it kept the kitchen looking lovely but not very practical for someone with a bad back like me. The aga stove was also a bit of a problem as after a days walking I just wanted to cook a frozen pizza or something with oven chips …..not that straightforward in the aga. There were no instructions on how to use it as the owners said it was easier to explain in person but unfortunately they were called away and ended up knocking on the door at around 9.30pm by which time we’d gone to eat in the pub and were relaxing in front of the tv. A text/call would have been better at that time of night with an offer to visit Sunday if we needed them to. Overall we had a great time and would recommend Grove Cottage …..just brush up on your aga skills before you go!

Thank you for your positive feedback on the cottage. Unfortunately there is no where else to store the microwave but it’s has been noted. In relation to the Aga there are full written instructions in the Welcome Folder which was left on the glass table in the kitchen. Property Owner

The cottage is so well equipped with everything you could ever need, it is very spacious but feels cosy, with well thought out lighting throughout and a beautiful open fire. We enjoyed cooking on the Aga once we got used to it and made good use of the games room. Andrew was very helpful and we appreciated his advice on arrival - and the offer of a cake tin when we told him we were going to do some baking! Two large comfortable bedrooms upstairs with one being ensuite, and a family bathroom. Large patio area outside where we spent many hours in one of the hottest weeks this year. The beds in particular were really comfortable. We were able to visit a number of places within a short drive away, and found the journey to the coast manageable as well. The Golden Lion Hotel, a few minutes' walk away, served very good food, and the Coop and post office stores had everything we could have needed. I think the only thing we would have appreciated would have been a shower over the bath in the bathroom. Sharing the house as two couples necessitated a certain amount of logistics for all of us to use the one shower, as it is located in one of the bedrooms!

Perfectly situated in the village for travelling across Northumberland and into neighbouring counties. We ate in the Golden Lion which is literally about 30 paces from the cottage, lovely food and atmosphere - it was our first time in a pub since lockdown in March so a different experience to what we were used to - very friendly staff. Having our dogs with us has never been a problem during our stay. The dogfriendly pub around the corner had good food - even for our vegetarian daughter and her friend. The people there were very friendly and made us feel welcome (because the kitchen of the pub is right behind the cottage there might be some noise or some cooking odours but in October that is not a real problem as we were not sitting outside on the patio). The village itself it a very welcoming and friendly place, having visited the church, the two pubs around the corner (excellent food and drink) the gallery and other local shops. Andrew met us on arrival, making sure we had everything we would need and showing us how to use the Aga- which we got used to pretty easily. The personal touches really made a difference- from the lovely welcome pack, fresh flowers and dog treats to the great selection of DVDs and games to keep us entertained when the weather wasn’t at its best. If you aren’t sure whether or not to book a holiday that is not so near the delightful coast - don’t hesitate. We easily reached the beaches - it really didn’t take long. But also, we explored many more other parts of the rich and varied countryside of Northumberland that perhaps we would not have gone to; Derwent Reservoir, Kielder Water, Allenheads, (fly fishing there was a hit!) Hexham Abbey, Hadrian’s Wall and Homestead, to name a few. Lots of brilliant nature and fascinating curiosities- You won’t be disappointed! Thank you Andrew and Sarah for our lovely holiday retreat.

The owners are close by and available to answer questions and provide useful local knowledge. We had a lovely New Years break especially enjoying the Tar Barl’s procession on New Year’s Eve. We would highly recommend this cottage.

  • "Grove cottage was beautifully decorated, clean and fully equipped for our Christmas stay."

The owners have thought out very carefully the needs of their visitors. We stayed with two large dogs and they settled in straight away. The games room is also equipped for muddy dogs, with buckets, sponges and towels to clean off the dogs in the yard, before bringing them in , plus a large radiator underneath the coat hooks for drying the humans coats. The kitchen was fully equipped and the Aga was the cherry on the cake, it cooked a great Christmas dinner for 6 as my daughter and family who live in Allendale joined us with their children. Wonderful walks, friendly locals, and a selection of pubs to choose from. The beautiful church two steps from the front door ,was full for Christmas morning. Cannot praise this property enough, but possibly shouldn't say too much as we'd like to keep it a secret to ensure spaces for future bookings.Well done Andrew. Oh, the welcome pack was yummy too.

However, people should be aware the cooker is an Aga which may not suit everyone one although there is also a microwave. Andrew and Sarah provided lots of extras that were much appreciated.

Very well equipped kitchen, beautiful bedding and comfortable beds, bath towels, hand towels and tea towels all supplied along with dog towels (and dog shampoo) if needed. Table tennis and darts great fun even to the 1st time player, washing machine & clothes maiden for those wet walking clothes. Allendale is a lovely little town with every type of business you might need, 3 pubs, a co-op, garage, butchers, gallery, gift shops, cafes and tea rooms, hairdressers, beauty salon and post office. All the pubs serve food but The Allendale pub is especially friendly and serves the best food. The cottage is facing the church and has a beautiful chiming clock and bell ringing(neither of which you hear from inside the cottage). This is the perfect location for a number of lovely walks without having to drive anywhere, very relaxing break, cant praise this holiday enough.

  • "Grove Cottage is a beautiful place to stay."

Andrew and Sarah have put a lot of thought and effort into this conversion giving, for me, the perfect blend of modern and traditional. The village was wonderful and had everything we needed - Co-op was well stocked, great food at the Golden Lion when we didn't want to cook, and the gift shop was like an Aladdin's cave! Such a lot to see in the surrounding area too - Vindolanda and the Roman army museum were great! Will definitely be going back!

An ideal base to explore the surrounding countryside. Lovely walks from the house and further afield. The owners provided a welcome basket and flowers which was much appreciated. They were attentive and on hand should any problems arise. The games room was well used with local pubs also on your door step. We enjoyed learning to cook on the aga using the simple cook book provided. We can thoroughly recommend this cottage.
