"Perfect property in a perfect location, every comfort catered for."
With local shops, cafes and walking from the front door you can park the car up for the duration of your stay .One minor niggle is there is no off road parking as it's either outside the church or in the main square,we had 2 vehicles with us and always managed to get a space but the listing is incorrect but it does not detract from being an excellent choice. Please look at the owners web site for more information on walks ,places to visit and local food outlets as this will help you on deciding to book this home from home
Thank you for the feedback we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Please checkout our website www.grovecottageallendale.co.uk for any future bookings. The car park outside the church is free and generally always has spaces Property Owner
"We had a lovely stay at Grove cottage."
The cottage was spotlessly clean and really well presented. The area it very quite with some lovely walks right from the door and an excellent base to explore hadrians wall and Northumberland. We loved the open fire after long autumn walks and had fun learning to use the aga which was much more simple than we thought it would be.

"Excellent place in perfect location."
Brilliant host and such high standards of cleanliness with extra assistance with dog walks and local areas. Would highly recommend.

"Grove cottage is perfectly located for exploring the countryside of Northumberland, and Allendale has all you need for a quiet, peaceful holiday."
The facilities, equipment and comfort within the property were very good. My only reservation was the Aga oven, use of which we were not familiar with. Apart from that, I would certainly recommend this property.
"Grove Cottage is lovely, very homely and comfortable."
The owner popped round to welcome us when we arrived, and also came to say goodbye as we were leaving. The cottage is in a great location, with amenities right on the doorstep. It is really well equipped, and the games room was an added bonus during the periods of biblical rain we had! The pizza van, which comes to the main square on a Tuesday evening, made brilliant pizzas - not to be missed! We’ve had a truly lovely week at Grove Cottage!
"Grove cottage is a beautiful well kept cottage in Allendale dog friendly with enclosed garden we would stay again"
"Great cottage in a lovely location."
Lots of nice walks and places to visit. The cottage is lovely and clean and very comfortable. Only thing I missed was TV in the bedroom but apart from that it was spot on.
"Sarah and Andrew certainly went the extra mile when they renovated and furnished this beautiful cottage - the level of comfort is superb - the beds were so comfortable and the decor very tasteful."
The kitchen was brilliantly stocked - and I easily managed to cook on the Aga. The location was a bonus - Allendale is a lovely village - we soon made friends with the fabulous butcher and host at The Golden Lion - where we had some fantastic fish and chips. Further afield we loved visiting Hexham, Corbridge (my favourite), Amble and Warkworth. Hadrian's Wall is only a few miles away and Alnwick of course is wonderful. We would definitely like to return to stay in this beautiful cottage.
"Very comfortable cottage with a great kitchen/dining area and cosy lounge."
Two comfortable bedrooms and a handy games room for children. The outside space wasn't usable for the dog so we had to take him to the church green opposite. This was v quiet and easy though. Very enjoyable holiday.
"An absolutely fantastic cottage, it provides everything that you could possibly want or need."
The village is quiet with great facilities and the Golden Lion was warm and welcoming and dog friendly too! We had a relaxing holiday and can't recommend it highly enough, we look forward to returning soon.
"We had a really enjoyable stay at Grove Cottage, the cottage itself is very well maintained and has everything you need to really enjoy your stay there."
The location is great for local walks, the pubs are welcoming and the local CO-OP is ideally placed for those last minute things. Would highly recommend.
"When we arrived, we were greeted by a lovely cozy and warm cottage."
There were plenty of places to sit and relax and the kids enjoyed the games room (especially the darts). The location is perfect for enjoying walks (if you had a dog, this would be the place to stay) and there is a park not far from the cottage (which our 12 year old loved). Emma's cafe is lovely (I can recommend the tea and scones) and there is a little sweet shop inside. The Coop is literally on the doorstep and the local pub was great for a drink too. Not far to visit Hadrian's wall and a day trip to Newcastle as well was brilliant. Thanks Jenny
Hi Jenny. Thank you for the lovely feedback. Glad you all enjoyed your stay at Grove Cottage! Property Owner
"Lovely cottage with well equipped kitchen."
Fun to cook on Aga for first time. Only used games room for food and wine storage! Would have liked to have a few books on local area. Enjoyed visit to Hadrian's wall. Pub ok but only one real ale on tap and a bit quiet but likely time of year. Overall would recommend staying at Grove Cottage.
"We spent a wet week in January at Grove cottage and couldn't of been happier."
The interior of the cottage was beautifully set out ,well equipped, spotlessly clean and lovely and warm. With two dogs there was no worries coming back to the property muddy as the patio area handily had a tap and the games room had sinks and dog towels for cleaning. With lots of walks from the door described on grovecottageallendale.co.uk we were spoilt for choice. Any worries about cooking with the aga were quickly dispelled, it was so quick and easy. Wish we had one at home.Could not fault the property and look forward to returning soon.
"This cottage is a hidden gem."
We stayed over Christmas and it was such a beautiful place to spend the festive period. When you are away in winter time, you want somewhere cozy and spacious. This cottage definitely ticks these boxes. It is thoughtfully and tastefully decorated. All of the kitchen equipment is high end. There has been no expense spared in making this cottage comfortable. It also has a games room with darts and even a table tennis table! We had really great fun in there! If you have a good dog they are welcome. Ours is blind, she navigated the space with ease and I think she felt safe, she loved lying by the AGA! If you like going to the pub it is just a 30 second walk away, but if you are not a pub fan, you would not even know it was there as it is so quiet. When you look out of the window you overlook a beautiful historic church. The CO-OP is a minute walk away. There is a beautiful independent butcher 2 minutes away! If you choose not to drive again for your stay this is easy, everything you need is a stones throw away. The cottage is by far the most superior we have ever stayed in!
"Grove cottage is situated in a beautiful village, the property itself is beautiful from the outside to the interior."
The property owners absolutely lovely, from the flowers to the dog treats and some lovely chocolates left for us . We felt so welcomed . Easy access to a shop, easy parking , 2 lovely pubs and a fantastic butchers. We will definitely be booking again , if I could give it higher than 5 stars I would
"Excellent cottage with a fantastic range of amenities."
Tastefully decorated with some lovely wall art. One of the best holiday cottages that we have stayed in. Allendale was very pleasant with most things that we could have wanted, our only disappointment was with the two pubs which we thought were average at best.
"An excellent, spotlessly clean property and really comfortable."
The owners have made sure you have everything you need. They even include enough waste bags and dishwasher tablets - a small thing but it really does show how they have given thought to your comfort. The owners, Andrew and Sarah are very friendly and approachable and can easily be contacted if you have any questions. Overall its definitely a place we will return to.
"Grove cottage is absolutely beautiful and located in a lovely village just nicely tucked away from the coop and local pub."
The cottage has a lovely enclosed outside area which was great for sitting/eating out in the sunshine. It has all the facilities you need and the beds are really comfy . We had a great stay and would highly recommend.
"Great village location opposite small church and just strides away from the main pub."
The accomodation was in an excellent state of repair, clean and comfortable. Wifi was very good all over the house. The games room was a handy addition and although we had hreat weather and did not use it much I imagine that in poor weather conditions it would be very handy. Outside seating very handy too. Beautiful area close to lots of places to visit. Owner came to water the flowers in the yard every evening, as the weather was quite warm the week we stayed. Would stay again and recommend.
"Very clean and well equipped cottage."
There is no parking with the cottage, which isn't clear in the details. Parking is opposite the cottage by the church which wasn't a problem for us, however, this may not be the case in high season. Andrew, the owner, was very helpful and sorted out any minor issues very quickly.
"Grove Cottage has everything you could need in a holiday home, including a delightful paved garden areas with newly-planted pots and a table and bench positioned to catch the last sun of the evening."
Can't fault anything.
"A really lovely cottage with every thing you need."
One of the cleanest rental properties I've been in, so well done Andrew and Sarah :) Fun using an Aga for the first time; it really isn't that difficult once you apply general cooking and slow cooking methods. I used the simmering oven for both a risotto and a chilli and both were perfect meals. Lots of good walking and sightseeing within a hour or so's drive, depending on where you want to go. Coop 1 mins walk or a very good Tesco in Hexham. Excellent butchers in the square which I used. We didn't meet Sarah but met Andrew on a few occasions; always ready for a chat and enquiring how we were finding our stay. Keep on doing what you're doing Andrew and Sarah. We had a lovely time. Thank you :)
"Andrew and Sarah have lovely cottage."
It is decorated and equipped to a very high standard. The cottage is close to the local amenities and to the historic town of Hexham . The village of Corbridge is also worth a visit. From the cottage there are some lovely riverside walks. It is a perfect setting for exploring the Northumbrian countryside. We would say at the cottage again.
"Grove Cottage is lovely and very well situated."
It was clean, very comfortable and very well equipped. Lots of parking, the local pubs were welcoming and the food was good even for a fussy vegetarian like myself. The only issues we had were the microwave being in a cupboard on the floor so it needed lifting onto the worktop to use. I know it kept the kitchen looking lovely but not very practical for someone with a bad back like me. The aga stove was also a bit of a problem as after a days walking I just wanted to cook a frozen pizza or something with oven chips …..not that straightforward in the aga. There were no instructions on how to use it as the owners said it was easier to explain in person but unfortunately they were called away and ended up knocking on the door at around 9.30pm by which time we’d gone to eat in the pub and were relaxing in front of the tv. A text/call would have been better at that time of night with an offer to visit Sunday if we needed them to. Overall we had a great time and would recommend Grove Cottage …..just brush up on your aga skills before you go!
Thank you for your positive feedback on the cottage. Unfortunately there is no where else to store the microwave but it’s has been noted. In relation to the Aga there are full written instructions in the Welcome Folder which was left on the glass table in the kitchen. Property Owner
"We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, it was the perfect size and had everything we needed."
Full marks thank you!
"Just spent a sunny wall to wall sunshine week (yes in March) and a fabulous stay at Grove Cottage."
Would highly recommend to anyone looking to tour Northumberland as its such a great location. The Cottage is home from home and so comfy we have booked again for next year. Sue and Steve
"Fantastic cottage in a great location, really enjoyed our stay and the cottage was warm and cosy with great facilities."
"A well appointed cottage in a beautiful area."
"We absolutely loved this cottage, it is cosy but spacious for a family of four and perfectly situated in a lovely little town."
I've stayed in lots of holiday lets and would say that this was the cleanest I've stayed in, and had the best stocked kitchen for keen cooks, and the biggest log basket!
"Grove Cottage was a lovely place to stay and explore the area."
It was quirky, well appointed, spotless and comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners and would definitely recommend and return too!
"Perfect cottage and location."
Friendly helpful owners. Great for dogs. Fabulous holiday and will book again.
"Our second stay at Grove Cottage, once again faultless."
Grove Cottage is in a perfect location, with 2 pubs, a butchers and local shop within 10 steps of each other, as well as lots of nice walks from the doorstep. The cottage is so well equipped with everything you could ever need, it is very spacious but feels cosy, with well thought out lighting throughout and a beautiful open fire. Nothing is too much trouble for Andrew who goes out his way to ensure a great stay is had. Would 100% recommend pony trekking at Sinderhope and quad biking at Slaley Hall when staying here.
"The house was immaculate…."
Just beautiful, lovely village, stunning local area and very friendly hosts. We will most definitely be returning.
"A very cosy property which was beautifully furnished and equipped, pristine clean and exceptionally comfortable."
The location is wonderful with plenty of amenities, beautiful walks and many interesting places to visit nearby. Andrew made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay and was easily contactable. Pretty perfect actually!
"Beautiful cottage with an amazing kitchen!"
Everything was extremely clean and comfortable. Very good quality fixtures and fittings. The bed was a delight to sleep in ! The house is tucked away off the village square making it very convenient for local amenities but also extremely peaceful and private. The games room was an excellent addition if the weather was bad. Plenty of beautiful walks from the village and the garden was fully enclosed so completely safe for pets or young children. Couldn’t fault a thing !
"Fantastic cottage in a great location."
"Grove Cottage Allendale exceeds all expectations."
...and then some. An outstanding property with first class attention to detail.
"First Class in every way, would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a cottage in Allendale."
We have stayed in other cottages in Allendale but this was by far the best.
"We had a lovely relaxing stay at Grove Cottage."
We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years and this is easily amongst the best. The location is great with a handy Co-op, pubs and cafe nearby, but the cottage is still quiet and tucked away. Excellent walks nearby too. We enjoyed cooking on the Aga once we got used to it and made good use of the games room. Andrew was very helpful and we appreciated his advice on arrival - and the offer of a cake tin when we told him we were going to do some baking! The beds and sofas were super comfy and the house was super clean. All in all we'd definitely recommend and would love to return. Thank you Andrew and Sarah.
"Great relaxing break at Grove Cottage"
"Beautiful cottage located just off the village square, opposite a picture postcard church, and less than 2 minutes away from a pub and local shop."
Cottage spacious, clean, comfortable and luxurious. Lovely lounge, kitchen and dining area downstairs, as well as a games room. Two large comfortable bedrooms upstairs with one being ensuite, and a family bathroom. Large patio area outside where we spent many hours in one of the hottest weeks this year. Loungers, parasol and table and bench. Owners helpful and on hand, but unobtrusive, and provided welcome pack and fresh sunflowers. Thank you. Highly recommended.
"Grove Cottage was lovely and spacious, and the accommodation provided very easy living."
The beds in particular were really comfortable. We were able to visit a number of places within a short drive away, and found the journey to the coast manageable as well. The Golden Lion Hotel, a few minutes' walk away, served very good food, and the Coop and post office stores had everything we could have needed. I think the only thing we would have appreciated would have been a shower over the bath in the bathroom. Sharing the house as two couples necessitated a certain amount of logistics for all of us to use the one shower, as it is located in one of the bedrooms!
"We really enjoyed our week at Grove Cottage, helped by exceptional weather."
The Cottage is lovely tastefully decorated and immaculately clean, spacious throughout the games room an added bonus, great place to dry the dog in wet weather, with a large radiator to dry your wet coats. Allendale is a quaint village with ample local shops and cafes, oh and 3 pubs, you are made welcome where ever you go. The Cottage has an abundance of local walks right on its doorstep ideal for dog walking. Grove Cottage is highly recommended I am sure you would enjoy a stay there as much as we did.
"We stayed for a week."
It was an amazing cottage with everything you could need. The owners were extremely helpful and the carrot cake and doggy treats on arrival were a lovely touch. The village was lovely and and had everything you could need - a well stocked co op where you could get almost anything, 3 pubs serving food, a post office and The Forge was a lovely place with local crafts and delicious food. We had some amazing days outs and would recommend the lovely village of Corbridge and Bamburgh castle. Would highly recommend this property and would love to return. A visit to Jills catering is a definate must.
"Grove Cottage has been very well planned for rentals."
The facilities are excellent and the house is finished to a high standard. We rented early winter and Andrew the owner provided a very welcome supply of firewood so that after a day walking nearby Hadrian's Wall trails we could enjoy a log fire and glass of wine - perfect! Allendale is a very pretty village and Grove Cottage is located just off the main square and close to the pretty church and churchyard - a touch of traditional England.
"This was our first trip to Northumberland - Grove Cottage was extremely comfortable, beautifully presented with good quality fixtures and fittings."
Comfortable bed, pillows a little hard for me but that is personal choice. The games room was an added little bonus. Perfectly situated in the village for travelling across Northumberland and into neighbouring counties. We ate in the Golden Lion which is literally about 30 paces from the cottage, lovely food and atmosphere - it was our first time in a pub since lockdown in March so a different experience to what we were used to - very friendly staff. Lovely curry house a 5 minute drive from the cottage. Cannot fault the cottage and thank you to Andrew and Sarah for the milk, carrot cake and roses on arrival - a lovely touch. Would not hesitate to stay again and would recommend it 100%.
"Absolutely superb, we couldn’t have wished for any better, the cottage, the location and Andrew was brilliant."
Our only complaint is that we had to leave for home!
"The cottage is absolutely fantastic all facilities that you could need and the homely touches too (Aga Range and open fire)."
The village in which it is located has the old school village feel and the food in the local pubs is really good.
"The cottage was very comfortable and close to all amenities."
The quality of furnishing in the cottage was first class, and the cleanliness outstanding. Unfortunately we had to cut our holiday short because of an incident at home, but would have no hesitation at booking this cottage again. We have also recommended it to a few of our friends. The owners lived next door and were very helpful, nothing was too much of a problem.
"Excellent cottage, great location for local walks and exploring Hadrian's Wall."
The owner Andrew met us on the first day and explained how to use the Aga and open fire. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking and once I got my head round the aga it was a joy to cook on. The cottage is very spacious, the recliner sofa and open fire was the perfect way to relax at the end of the day. Locally there are plenty of pubs and an adequate sized co-op just a stones throw from the cottage. We have stayed in many self catering cottages over the years and this is undoubtedly one of the best.
"Absolutely gorgeous cottage in a lovely location."
Well equipped for a family and so welcoming, the cottage had everything that we needed.
"Great location and great place to stay."
A real home from home that was very comfortable and well appointed. No negatives.
"The cottage was stunning."
It has been renovated to an extremely high standard and is set in a beautiful village. Very quiet, but adjacent to a small hotel/pub which does great food. Andrew the host was very friendly and helpful. A great location to explore Northumbria.
"A beautiful cottage in a great village."
The location is excellent for local walks and for exploring further afield.
"Fantastic cottage - extremely well maintained, very clean and well equipped."
Very convenient for local shop and pubs and easy to park close by. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend or stay again.
"We had a fabulous week at Grove Cottage situated in the beautiful village of Allendale."
The cottage was spotlessly clean, immaculately decorated With everything you could want in a holiday home. The fixtures and fittings are of the highest quality and the cottage is decorated beautifully. We especially liked the open plan kitchen/diner, a great place to cook and enjoy a glass of wine. We also loved the enclosed garden with dining Furniture and sun loungers and the games room. The area is stunning with lots of lovely walks from cottage. There are three pubs in the village as well as a well stocked Co-op, a butchers and a post office.
"We had a great week in Allendale (the last week before Lockdown)."
Allendale is a lovely village; the Co-Op was well stocked. Three pubs in the village square. We were able to sit outside the pub and enjoy the sunshine. Very welcoming locals. Lovely walks from the doorstep. The cottage was exceptionally clean. Andrew made us welcome, fresh lilies and a carrot cake. We settled into the cottage easily. I especially enjoyed sitting in the kitchen on the comfy sofa whilst there was tea cooking in the Aga. Also a butcher in Allendale, belly pork cooked in the Aga was delicious. Our dog was well catered for with dog treats and towels to clean off after walks. Throughly enjoyed our week here. Thank you Andrew.
"The host couldn't have done anymore to make us welcome."
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Grove Cottage. The cottage and furnishings were exceptional all tastefully decorated to the highest standards. The open fire was marvellous almost wanting me to stay in and not sample the hospitality at to local pubs. The cottage is set behind the Golden Lion & the Kings Head Inn, both fantastic pubs in their own right, the King's Heads edges it on the food, the chips are absolutely amazing. The village is set in beautiful countryside and the people couldn't be more friendly. I highly recommend staying here.
"Absolutely fabulous cottage - couldn’t recommend it enough."
Situated quietly in the corner of a fabulously friendly, beautiful village. You could easily have a great holiday walking, shopping, eating and drinking without getting in your car all week. We enjoyed the Kings head so much for drinks and food that we didn’t actually set foot in any other pubs. We were embraced by the locals and enjoyed plenty of the local outdoors with our dogs. Really hope to visit again very soon.
"Such a great cottage, Andrew has thought of everything and if any problems he sorts them out straight away."
"We got back today after a weeks stay at Grove Cottage, what a fabulous place!"
Cottage was a home from home and very well equipped for a great stay. The flowers, cake and dog treats on arrival was a great touch. The Aga was fantastic to cook on, the kitchen was stunning and very comfortable. The games room was a great added bonus. Very dog friendly with enclosed garden for them, they settled in straight away so we knew were on to a winner. Very comfortable beds so we slept like logs and felt very relaxed. The village is very compact with everything you could need on the doorstep. The Kingshead pub I would recommend- dog friendly, homely feel and great food. The weather was rather wild during our stay but we still managed trips to Hadrians Wall, Craster and Kielder Forest. Try the Jolly Fisherman in Craster- fab crab soup! Kielder Forest was absolutely stunning. It was snowing when we were there and it really added to the experience, it was magical! We fell in love with Northumberland and will definitely return! I would have no hesitation to recommend Grove Cottage to anyone and we would certainly return. Thanks for a great stay!!
"Grove cottage is beautiful!"
It has everything you will need to have the best holiday . This was our second visit and we have already booked again for next year . Well done to Andrew and Sarah .
"This is a lovely cottage, with a lovely feel to it."
just round the corner from a couple of nice pubs and a decent shop. Everyone we met was very friendly and the walking was fantastic
"Grove Cottage is a great place to stay in the centre of Allendale."
The whole cottage is very comfortably furnished, with a beautiful kitchen/dining area with high end appliances. There is an electric Aga in the kitchen, which is easy to use. There is a games room with full size table tennis table and a dart board. Outdoor patio area. I would certainly book again and would recommend to others.
"Everything was perfect, there were a lot of little touches which meant a lot, we stayed there over Christmas and when we arrived we walked in to see a beautiful Christmas tree which was superbly decorated, also beautiful flowers on the table."
It was perfect we will definitely be booking again.
"Grove cottage in Allendale is by far the best we have stayed in Andrew and Sarah ..."
Grove cottage in Allendale is by far the best we have stayed in Andrew and Sarah the owners are fantastic they don't need to change a thing it's perfect
"Lovely cosy cottage in a nice village/town with a shop and pubs literally around the corner."
Great walks from the doorstep and a good location for exploring both the Hadrian Wall area and the North Pennines. We mastered cooking on the aga and did not need to use "modern" kitchen items such as microwave, toaster and electric kettle! Added bonus was the games/utility/boot room, really handy for muddy wellies and cleaning the muddy dog before entering the house!
"The cottage was absolutely fabulous and Andrew the owner was helpful and recommended some places when aksed."
We felt like home! It was spacious and very well-equipped. Cooking with the AGA cooker was quite an adventure but we got used to it very quickly. Having our dogs with us has never been a problem during our stay. The dogfriendly pub around the corner had good food - even for our vegetarian daughter and her friend. The people there were very friendly and made us feel welcome (because the kitchen of the pub is right behind the cottage there might be some noise or some cooking odours but in October that is not a real problem as we were not sitting outside on the patio). There were some nice walks around Allendale and many things to do and places to visit within an hour driving (Newcastle, Beamish Museum, Alnwick Town and Castle, nice cafes in Hexam and first of all Durham which is worth a visit).
"We really enjoyed staying at Grove Cottage, it was very well equipped and beautifully done by the owners."
The location was convenient for shops and pubs, interesting villages and Hadrians Wall were nearby. A lovely holiday cottage which was homely and cosy with the added bonus of the games room. Thank you for the welcome pack and making our stay so enjoyable.
"Stunning cottage, beautifully decorated and furnished which made for a very comfortable and enjoyable week."
Other highlights - cooking on the AGA, the games room was a great bonus, the real fire and supply of plenty of logs to last the week, the courtyard was a lovely place to relax after a day exploring. Great location for easy access to Hadrians Wall, Forts and Museums and also the Northumberland coast. Highly recommended.
"A beautiful cottage in a lovely location and the owners were very nice too."
"What a beautifully appointed cottage!"
The photographs don’t really do it justice. Everything was very clean, spacious and comfortable, perfect for relaxing and as a base for exploring the varied locations locally to Allendale and further afield. The village itself it a very welcoming and friendly place, having visited the church, the two pubs around the corner (excellent food and drink) the gallery and other local shops. Andrew met us on arrival, making sure we had everything we would need and showing us how to use the Aga- which we got used to pretty easily. The personal touches really made a difference- from the lovely welcome pack, fresh flowers and dog treats to the great selection of DVDs and games to keep us entertained when the weather wasn’t at its best. If you aren’t sure whether or not to book a holiday that is not so near the delightful coast - don’t hesitate. We easily reached the beaches - it really didn’t take long. But also, we explored many more other parts of the rich and varied countryside of Northumberland that perhaps we would not have gone to; Derwent Reservoir, Kielder Water, Allenheads, (fly fishing there was a hit!) Hexham Abbey, Hadrian’s Wall and Homestead, to name a few. Lots of brilliant nature and fascinating curiosities- You won’t be disappointed! Thank you Andrew and Sarah for our lovely holiday retreat.
"Just back from our 4th visit to Andrew's fab cottage."
Another busy week visiting our daughter and family. Beautiful weather, even had chance to sit on the sun beds on the patio and enjoy the late afternoon sun.The dogs are very tired after enjoying lots of walks in the woods and surrounding area. Thank you again Andrew for all your hard work keeping the cottage just perfect. Have noted a previous comment on the website concerning the chiller unit from the pub, keeping guests awake. Would like to comment that we have never found a problem with this in any of our visits. Hopefully be back for return visit either before or just after Christmas .
"There is an air conditioning unit at back of pub/hotel that backs on to the property - this seemed to be operating almost 24 hours a day and was a noise annoyance(especially at night)and also brought kitchen smells in to the property."
Many thanks for your feedback. The owner has spoken to the pub landlord who has agreed to switch the air-conditioning unit at the back of the pub off each night at 11pm. Property Owner
"The location is excellent."
Allendale is ideal for exploring and walking holidays. Grove cottage is slap bang in the middle of the village and is beautifully clean and well equipped. Our only suprise was that we chose it because as two adult couples we wanted two bathrooms, so would rather an en suite than a large wet room. However, nothing stopped us enjoying the cottage. The games room provided lots of laughs and entertainment.
"Excellent cottage, lovely village, extremely friendly people"
"The cottage is a real home from home, Andrew and Sarah go the extra mile with the extra touches to make you feel welcome."
very comfortable, with all the bits and pieces you could need. The cottage very dog friendly even down to supplying dog towels and treats. Allendale village is well situated for with all the amenities and plenty of walks right from the door step. we would definitely recommend a stay in Grove cottage
"The cottage was absolutely fantastic and Allendale was a excellent village ..."
The cottage was absolutely fantastic and Allendale was a excellent village very friendly we will definitely be returning xx
"The cottage was exactly as described on the website and in the pictures."
Loved the decor and the furniture was very comfortable. The games room was an added bonus. Easy access to Hadrian's Wall. Would recommend and stay there again.
"Lovely cottage well situated for shops and pubs in village enjoyed touring local area."
"The location is in a great village and a good base for the area."
"A beautiful cottage finished to a high standard, well furnished and equipped."
The bed was extremely comfortable, the lounge cosy and the kitchen/dining area spacious. Set in a beautiful unspoilt area of Northumberland, Grove Cottage was an excellent base for exploring Hexham and surrounding area. 2 good dog friendly pubs nearby, and local supermarket and butcher 2 minutes away. Andrew was helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of room for our 2 labradors who enjoyed local riverside walks. We would definitely book this cottage again.
"Well what can I say Grove Cottage is beautiful and everything has been thought of by the owner Andrew."
Allendale village is so quaint and the surrounding area is beautiful with the best walks we have taken. Being able to take the dogs in through the games room is so ideal after muddy walks. The Aga is so fantastic and the open fire a absolute must on the cold evenings. Grove Cottage is by far the best Cottage we have ever stayed in.
"The cottage was top quality very well looked after the owner could not do enough ..."
The cottage was top quality very well looked after the owner could not do enough for you Would recommend this cottage to everyone
"Second stay at Grove Cottage, a very delightful place."
However, if you are radio addicts as we are suggest taking a radio. Still not yet a convert to Agas but realise some people love them.Would highly recommend this cottage.
"The owner could not do enough to help, immaculate premises, located in both a human and dog friendly village."
Thoroughly recommended, and we intend to return again in the future.
"The cottage was one of the best we have ever stayed in."
It was very clean and it was a pleasure to come back too. We loved the situation right in the village with pubs, shop and walks nearby. Would highly recommend this cottage. Mr Dochar was easy to get hold of if there was a problem. Look forward to going again.
"This is a first class property."
It is in an ideal location for touring the beautiful surroundings. We lived in the huge kitchen most of the time and enjoyed the patio in terrific weather. Gorgeous plants and hanging baskets. Everything is high quality and it is very comfortable. The owner was very friendly and helpful. A lot of thought has gone into making the cottage comfortable and it is absolutely spotless. Recommend 100%
"This is the best cottage we ever stayed in."
It was spotlessly clean and very welcoming. The owner, who welcomed us personally, has renovated the cottage himself to a very high standard. The whole cottage is as impressive as it looks on the pictures. The patio garden was delightfully dressed with flower baskets and pots. A great place to relax and have a barbeque. In the cottage we found information booklets about the area and the owner's own manual with information on the house and local recommendations. This made our stay very relaxed and helped us select the best places to visit in this wonderful part of the world.
"This cottage was the best we have ever stayed in, as a dog friendly accommodation."
Location was perfect, it had everything we could of needed and was spotlessly clean. The square has everything you need, pubs, co-op, tea room. Walks in the area where fantastic, and if you want to go further a filed, within an hour's drive, you can be in the most beautiful surrounding's. Weather you want seaside or forest. Andrew who owns the property met us on arrival and talked through the lay out of the cottage and was extremely welcoming. Nice welcome basket with useful leaflets of places to go, and details of the local area. I would strongly recommend this property.
"Grove cottage is finished off to the highest standard and is a beautiful cottage, set in the heart of the village this cottage has everything An aga, modern smeg fridge, wet room shower, lovely courtyard, an area to wash off the dogs 2 lovely good sized double bedrooms, we loved Allendale and the area we will definitely be back Thank you to Andrew the owner for the attention to detail on our stay."
"Another wonderful week at this delightful cottage."
Thank you Andrew
"A wonderful, clean, cosy and warm retreat."
Despite our late arrival the owner was on hand to greet us and show us around whilst the welcome pack covered the essentials allowing us to settle in straight away. The property was a really relaxing place to spend a week away from it all with local shops, cafes and pubs providing enough entertainment that we didn't need to drive each day. All in all a great retreat that we will be sure to visit again in the future.
"Fantastic Cottage, Andy The Owner, caring nothing was to much trouble, local people where lovely."

"The cottage is beautiful, exceptionally clean and comfortable in a perfect location, the pub and shop are no more than 50 metres away."
The owners are close by and available to answer questions and provide useful local knowledge. We had a lovely New Years break especially enjoying the Tar Barl’s procession on New Year’s Eve. We would highly recommend this cottage.
"Grove cottage was beautifully decorated, clean and fully equipped for our Christmas stay."
The owners have thought out very carefully the needs of their visitors. We stayed with two large dogs and they settled in straight away. The games room is also equipped for muddy dogs, with buckets, sponges and towels to clean off the dogs in the yard, before bringing them in , plus a large radiator underneath the coat hooks for drying the humans coats. The kitchen was fully equipped and the Aga was the cherry on the cake, it cooked a great Christmas dinner for 6 as my daughter and family who live in Allendale joined us with their children. Wonderful walks, friendly locals, and a selection of pubs to choose from. The beautiful church two steps from the front door ,was full for Christmas morning. Cannot praise this property enough, but possibly shouldn't say too much as we'd like to keep it a secret to ensure spaces for future bookings.Well done Andrew. Oh, the welcome pack was yummy too.
"Very attractive cottage, much thought has gone into the planning and decor."
However, people should be aware the cooker is an Aga which may not suit everyone one although there is also a microwave. Andrew and Sarah provided lots of extras that were much appreciated.
"Very friendly and helpful owner."
Nice quiet cottage near village facilities, transport and river walks from the door. We had a lovely autumnal break.
"Beautiful cottage in a lovely village."
The cottage is extremely well furnished and has everything you could want. We enjoyed some lovely walks and relaxed afterwards in the village pubs, all dog friendly. We will certainly be back.
"Great location and a very well presented cottage."
Clean and cosy.
"Excellent accommodation & location, the cottage has everything that your own home has plus more."
Very well equipped kitchen, beautiful bedding and comfortable beds, bath towels, hand towels and tea towels all supplied along with dog towels (and dog shampoo) if needed. Table tennis and darts great fun even to the 1st time player, washing machine & clothes maiden for those wet walking clothes. Allendale is a lovely little town with every type of business you might need, 3 pubs, a co-op, garage, butchers, gallery, gift shops, cafes and tea rooms, hairdressers, beauty salon and post office. All the pubs serve food but The Allendale pub is especially friendly and serves the best food. The cottage is facing the church and has a beautiful chiming clock and bell ringing(neither of which you hear from inside the cottage). This is the perfect location for a number of lovely walks without having to drive anywhere, very relaxing break, cant praise this holiday enough.
"Grove cottage as been decorated to a very high standard."
We couldn't have asked for a nicer place. It's set in a lovely location with friendly locals. There are lovely walks around the village and it's perfect for visiting surrounding places of interest. I would definitely recommend a visit to Grove Cottage.
"Grove Cottage is a beautiful place to stay."
Andrew and Sarah have put a lot of thought and effort into this conversion giving, for me, the perfect blend of modern and traditional. The village was wonderful and had everything we needed - Co-op was well stocked, great food at the Golden Lion when we didn't want to cook, and the gift shop was like an Aladdin's cave! Such a lot to see in the surrounding area too - Vindolanda and the Roman army museum were great! Will definitely be going back!
"We liked Grove cottage very much."
It is located in the centre of a nice village and there are lot of things to see and do in the neighbourhood, in particular when you love walking. the house itself is spacious yet cosy and very well equipted. the owner is very friendly. Just go there!
"A delightful spacious yet cosy cottage in the heart of Allendale."
An ideal base to explore the surrounding countryside. Lovely walks from the house and further afield. The owners provided a welcome basket and flowers which was much appreciated. They were attentive and on hand should any problems arise. The games room was well used with local pubs also on your door step. We enjoyed learning to cook on the aga using the simple cook book provided. We can thoroughly recommend this cottage.
