  • "We loved our stay at Shepherds Lodge."

The directions to the lodge were easy to follow and we found it no prob at all. It was good to be able to go direct to the property and get the key without having a stand in a queue to check in. It would have been nice to have been able to check in a little earlier though. Inside the lodge was exactly as the photos had shown and we couldn't really want for anything more stocked in the kitchen. The living room area was clean and comfortable and bright. The only issue we had was in the bedroom, the mattress we found a little hard, in fact I ended up on the settee. The bathroom was lovely, maybe an extra toilet roll would be good as we ran out on the last day due to there not being much on the rolls but honestly that is the only thing I can say negative. The best part for us was the hot tub, we hadn't been in a hot tub prior to the lodge and weren't sure what to expect. But, the water was a lovely temperature when we got there so we unpacked and jumped straight in. We have a couple of points regarding the privacy though. The cabin attached and the two further down can see the hot tub no problem if they walked by and the cabin next door, if they didn't have their blind closed they would have been looking directly at us so a bit more screening would have been nice. We reversed the car up the drive for extra cover. The second point is maybe a covering would be good, lots of bits of tree were falling into the water so a bit of time was spent removing these not relaxing. It was a bit disappointing to have to be out at 9am. We would recommend this lodge.

  • "The lodge was lovely!"

Had everything you need including washer, dryer and dishwasher which was a nice surprise. Being semi detached wasn’t a problem, was abit worried about hearing neighbours but rarely did. Enjoyed the hot tub! Loved our stay only thing I would mark down would be the check in and check out times. Checking in at 5pm and out at 9am you loose a whole day. Never stayed somewhere with such a late check in time and such an early leaving time. Was abit disappointing as we was only staying for 3 days, it seemed to go really quickly with not actually getting to spend any time there on the first or last day, apart from that I would recommend!

We had a totally relaxing stay and made use of the hot tub. In terms of kitchen, it had everything we needed and more and due to the stormy weather we made good use of the tv/dvd player. Really enjoyable stay and wouldn't hesitate to go back

In the past reviews there is mention of the bed, the mattress really needs replacing.Cleaners need to move the settee and clean underneath but on the whole the place was adequate and comfortable left feeling a bit tired due to poor sleep.

  • "Beautiful Lodge!"

We had such a great time. Walked into the lodge on arrival day and everything was clean, tidy and smelt lovely. Everything you needed was in the lodge and the hot tub was all set up ready to get into that evening. If you would like a quiet holiday away, this is the place to go.

  • "The cottage was brilliant, expectations were met, it was clean, hot tub fantastic, all the necessities for your stay like irons, washing machine, utensils etc, the only downside was when it came to sleeping."

The mattress was very worn, to the point you could see it dipping where other people have slept, there was not much support left in it at all. I’ve seen that a previous person has left on the reviews that the lodge needed a new mattress as well. Considering that the bed is probably the most important part of a stay, it was very disappointing to not have the best of sleeps due to this. I would like to hope that this is passed to the owners and they take note of this, other than that, the lodge itself was fantastic, if the mattress was replaced/sorted out, I would be very happy returning to this place and recommending to others.

  • "The cleanliness of the property was disappointing."

As checking in later and checking out earlier I would have expected the lodge to be spotless as extra measures for Covid-19 cleaning should have been met. The shower curtain was covered in black mould and we had to contact Sykes to have it replaced. I also lodged a complaint about some utensils being unclean and some surfaces were sticky from drinks. Also there was food splashed on the kitchen windows. When I spilled some water when washing up, I wiped it up with kitchen roll and found that the floor was dirty too. I was not contacted after the shower curtain was replaced the next day to see if I was satisfied. It is such a shame about the lack of cleanliness as the location of the lodge was perfect and it is in a very peaceful, tranquil setting.

The location was perfect - very private and quiet, and the lodge was very clean and warm. We were even gifted a pot of ice cream! It's so close to the nearby Cartmel where we visited daily, for lovely lunches as the Cavendish arms and long walks from the Racetrack, (and several visits to the famous sticky toffee pudding shop). We loved the lodge and would definitely return and recommend to friends.

  • "We really loved our stay at Shepherd Lodge!"

The lodge itself is actually bigger than it looks in the pictures, really comfy, cosy, and clean - we felt at home right away. The kitchen is very well stocked with nice quality pots, pans, and utensils and the waterfall shower is so nice, I will genuinely miss it. The hot tub was always ready to use and cleaned/serviced every morning, and instructions for the log fire were clear and easy to follow. The site is quiet (we even saw some deer on the patio one morning!) and where the lodge is situated at the end of a lane it feels secluded and private. We would definitely stay here again!

  • "We had the most amazing time at Shepherds Lodge!"

The lodge was beautiful, finished to a very high standard, literally can't fault it! We are a family of 2 adults and an infant, our little one had such a fun time running exploring each room, and using the hot tub (with the temp turned down!) the house was naturally very warm which was a nice treat in winter. Using the log fire and hot tub were the perfect way to unwind at the end of the day, it was magical, and so lovely being out in the countryside. The kitchen was well equipt and had everything in that we needed to make a gousto meal that we brought with us. (Note to future guests bring olive oil, salt/pepper, and washing up liquid & cloth so you don't have to buy any.) There is a convenience store about 5mins drive away if you forget anything though. The area is stunning, plenty to do. Food is gorgeous from the Cavendish Pub. Locals are so friendly. Would definitely return!

  • "The only downside was the hot tub."

The cover was really heavy to take off and put back on so if you were elderly or not very strong You would struggle with this. Also it is not sheltered by a pagoda so when it rained you either had to get out or get wet. We had a power cut on the second night but it was not the Internal fuse box. We called the holiday company who got someone to come round and rectify the problem which turned out to be the main power box outside the property so we were waiting an hour or so in the dark whilst it was sorted out. We noticed the lodge next door had the same problem.

However I had a couple of issues. The bed has a footboard on it, which is covered in the pics by the duvet. My hubby is 6ft 6 & we wouldn't have booked it if we had seen as this is very uncomfortable for him. The hot tub is fab, we used it every day however the lack of decking around it makes for a muddy experience to and from the tub. Other than that - great

There should be a rubber bath mat to stand on in the shower. Also the shower curtain is mouldy it could be replaced more often or replaced by a glass screen. This caused a lot of distress to my partner who is highly allergic to stings. Also as the hot tub is on paving, not decking there needs to be some thing on the floor around it as you step directly onto dirty paving. We used towels but then you're having to wash and dry constantly. Apart from this I cannot recommend this lodge highly enough. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and private. We loved it and will be coming back.

Very clean and tidy. All the comforts of home and more. I would stay here again without any hesitation. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to visit the lakes without being right on top of all the tourists and visitors to the area. It was lovely and quite and secluded. If there is any recommendation it would be to maybe make the hot tub it a bit more private, maybe a screen of some sort, but this wasn't a deal breaker for us! Lovely place, five stars all the way. Many thanks for making our stay a very happy one.

  • "We unfortunately arrived late in the evening due to traffic."

On our arrival, the Cabin took us some time to find (Shepherds Lodge). The Semi detached Cabin adjoined to ours (which was empty) had outside lighting on in advance, where as ours did not, so was very difficult in the dark not only to locate and find, but even to carefully maneuver without tripping over. When we turned on the outside lights, we noticed rubbish bags strewn near the Key box, which in our opinion was not good, considering we checked in at 10pm and you had the whole day to organise. The facilities inside the Cabin were good and helpful. The Jacuzzi on first use had a strange smell to it and water was only semi clear. When we went to use it the next day, the water was literally like a swamp look at 2pm. We were hoping after going out for the day on our return the cleaner would have this resolved. However, on our return at 6pm, we noticed it was far worse and had an awful pungent smell which caused us to retch. We phoned to complain and a guy came out approximately 6:30pm and finished emptying and restoring it with clean water. The job was completed by 9pm, bearing in mind this was our last night. We have video and photo footage showing the above. Not at all impressed. Steve and Jeanette.

We followed the instructions which took us down a narrow lane towards our lodge only to come across a 'WIGAN COUNCIL BARRIER' in our way????? (No idea why they were using a Wigan council one??) Nobody about and no sign up to say why so rightly or wrongly I moved it out of the way so we could carry on to find out what was happening. The lodge came in to view but had a large 4x4 outside so I pulled up behind it only to be greeted by a short, angry looking man!!!!!! The property

This superb lodge is situated a 15 minute stroll from the historic village of Cartmel, at the top of the exclusive Pastures lodge park in a slightly elevated position towards the boundary of this 26 acre park with woodland and glade, thus affording extra outdoor space and privacy.

Immaculately-presented in a quality contemporary style, this spacious lodge has open plan living with patio doors from the living area and a bedroom that opens on to the spacious elevated decking screened by glass with patio furniture and hot tub.

On entering the lodge there is a vestibule with seating area and the washer/dryer which leads into the open plan living space with a large comfortable leather settee and woodburner, perfect to relax in front of on those chillier evenings.

When warmer, open the patio doors and step onto the decking perhaps for an alfresco meal or drink and listen to the sound of bird song.

The well-equipped stylish kitchen has integral appliances, granite surfaces and has a very useful wine chiller.

Stepping into the spacious bedroom there are also patio doors leading to the private decking and the en-suite bathroom has a bath with rain shower over and with beautiful contemporary fixtures and fittings.

The lodge also benefits from a hot tub allowing guests to relax after a hard day exploring the local area.

Picturesque Cartmel is just three quarters of a mile away with its 12th century priory, and interesting independent shops and, of course, its eateries and pubs, including the infamous L'enclume restaurant together with a great selection of other restaurants.

There is also the racecourse which holds meets during the summer months when the whole village is open, so a fantastic day out is within walking distance.

Locally, there is Newby Bridge, which is at the southerly tip of Windermere, where you can take a boat cruise and view the stunning lakeland scenery on route to Bowness or Ambleside.

Cyclists will also delight in the many trials especially in close by Grizedale Forrest.

Grange-over-Sands is just 2 miles away, a Lakeland Edwardian coastal town with estuary promenade walk, a chocolatier and cafes.

Humpreys Head is a pretty walk with coastal views and bluebell-filled woodland and this point is said to be the last known sighting of a wolf.

This fabulous lodge is perfectly positioned for exploring this glorious lakeland area both near or further afield all year round.

Return back to the lodge at the end of the day and enjoy total rest and relaxation.
