  • "Mousehole cottage is absolutely amazing!"

The cottage is extremely well equipped, there was milk, coffee, tea, sugar and cookies on arrival! It is so dog friendly, the garden is fully secure which is exactly what we needed for our escape artist beagle. There is also a secure dog field to use which just made our stay perfect. The owners were so friendly and welcoming.

  • "This was a perfect place for us to stay with our dogs."

The cottage is part of a barn conversion on a working fam. It was extremely clean and well appointed, very comfortable beds and high standard towels and linen. The host was very friendly and we truly felt like every detail had been thought about for us to enjoy our stay. There is ample secure grounds for the dogs to run in as well as your own secure garden. We would definitely visit again.

  • "This place was immaculate and well maintained, we were made to feel welcome the minute we arrived."

With corona virus in mind the owner had taken steps to make sure the property was safe for our use. We used doggies and moggies on site which are brilliant so if you have a dog etc and you want to visit any no-dog attractions they are good at accommodating such events. The cottage is very roomy and warm and full of creature comforts. We enjoyed ourselves so much we will be looking at returning in the not to distant future.

It is about a mile from Armathwaite which has a lovely river walk Coombes Wood, villag store and few pubs serving food.

  • "The house was for the most part really good but I would like to raise just a couple of things."

A couple of utensils would be really good to add to the kitchen drawer. A cheese slice and an egg skillet. My only real criticism would be that the couch cushions were covered in dog hairs which wasn't great. We did Really appreciate the milk, wine and biscuits that met us on our arrival and the gift of the pen and torch was a really nice touch. Thank you very much Mr Rickets!!!

  • "The cottage was fully equipped with everything we needed including washing powder for the machine."

Milk, tea, coffee, biscuits were waiting for us so no immediate dash to the shops. Tissues, toiletries etc. were a welcome addition along with information on the area and a good store of books. Our furry friend was also well catered for with the first truly dog proof garden I have come across since using Sykes cottages. There was also an enclosed exercise field plus walks across the owners fields. We used the day boarding kennels whilst we had a day in Carlisle and Maisie who hadn't been in kennels before loved it. Everyone in the village was very friendly and both pubs were dog friendly. A brilliant base for the lakes, Northumberland and even Scotland.

The village has two old pubs, both with popular restaurants serving excellent food, a village Post Office and a traditional village shop. The River Eden runs through the centre of the village, and the area is renowned for its excellent salmon fishing, plus walking, canoeing and climbing. Armathwaite Castle, by the river, is a four-storey Pele Tower, and the 15th Century Church has fine examples of stained glass windows. The Eden Gorge, between Lazonby and Armathwaite, is one of Cumbria's best-kept secrets, and is well worth exploring. The local railway station is a stop on the Settle-to-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and where today many old steam trains still wend their way through some of the finest countryside in Britain.
