  • "Another fantastic holiday at 5 the Old Sawmill."

It really is home from home everything just works for us, the layout, parking and of course the lovely view at the back. We also had a really positive interaction with the owner who was very considerate and cooperative. It was really appreciated. This was our third stay and hopefully many more to follow all being well. Thank you so much for your kindness too.

Hi Joann, Thank you so much for your positive comments and feedback about your recent stay at 5 the Old Sawmill. Looking forward to welcoming you back (again) in November! Best wishes, John & Jen Property Owner

! EVER. This Property has all the things we require for a relaxing stay, comfortable sofas that you can lounge and read on. Super quality beds and an enclosed garden for our dogs. Spotlessly clean with quality furnishings and fixtures and is even better in person than the photographs on website its usually the other way round. The Cottage is in a quiet location and easy reach of local villages 5 miles away along the A66. We have booked again for this year and next.

Wow! Thank you so much for your perfect review and glowing comments...and you have re-booked the cottage...thanks. John & Jen Property Owner

Lovely views out to the back. Everything was to hand and there was no need to wonder where things were or how they worked. Easy parking. Nice local footpaths for dog walking, and also close to lots of great long distance footpaths. Both Kirkby Stephen and Appleby not far away for other amenities.

Thank you very much for your kind and positive comments about the cottage. Good to know that you were able to find everything you needed and you enjoyed the local walks and visiting the local area. Best wishes, John & Jen. Property Owner

  • "We had a great stay and the cottage was absolutely lovely!"

It is even nicer in real life than the pictures and done to a high standard. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking etc and the sofas and bed were very comfy. The only feedback I would say is that when we arrived the house was very hot and even with the doors open for a bit we had a very warm first night. The surroundings were beautiful and we had some nice walks. We would definitely return!

Thank you very much for your kind and positive comments. It's possible the previous guests to you had left the room thermostats turned up high. There is underfloor heating downstairs and it takes a little longer to cool down after the thermostats have been turned down. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you again. The big living room/kitchen was ideal for a group holiday - no one felt left out when it was their turn to cook! The kitchen was the best equipped I've ever come across in a holiday rental, the beds were comfortable, the shower hot and powerful and the lovely view from the sociable outside space was a bonus. Could not have asked for more. The wifi went down when we were there, I contacted the owner and he could not have been more helpful or efficient in getting it sorted for us.

Thank you for your very complimentary review. Glad to hear that the layout of the cottage works well for entertaining. I must thank Vodafone & Openreach for fixing the local fault in the village with the Wi-fi so quickly. John & Jen Property Owner

  • "The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable and is well situated for the lakes and places like Barnard Castle."

The weather was not so good, but we did get sunny periods between showers and packed a lot into our 5 night stay. There was the annual Warcop Rush Bearing parade, with a procession of crown and rushbearers (local school children) through the village, accompanied by a brass band. Only real criticism is that the lounge TV could do with an upgrade - no Sky or ability to stream / set up things like Netflix, so evenings / bad weather times were a bit dull.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. It is indeed ideally situated for trips to the Lake District as well as the Yorkshire Dales and the North Pennines AONB. It was a bonus that there was an annual village parade held during your stay. I will look at upgrading the smart TV...to an even smarter model for the future! Kind regards, John & Jen Property Owner

I have never stayed in a rented house which was so clean. Very well equipped with everything you would need. Warcop is about 10 min drive to Kirby Stephen where there is plenty of shops pubs etc. Only 30 mins from the wonders of Butter Tubs pass and all that the Yorkshire Dales has to offer Highly recommended

Thank you very much for your positive comments. The changeover clean is very important and what we are probably most judged on, we will pass on your comments to our regular cleaner whom I'm sure will appreciate that. Thank you for your feedback comments about your recent stay at the cottage. We did consider putting in King size beds, but thought that regular double beds would take up less space and still be suitable for the bedrooms. The underfloor heating is powered by an air source heat pump, and although it can take a little longer than radiators to warm up, the house is very well insulated, so it will retain the heat longer. Everything you would expect in a holiday house was provided. There is a very pleasant patio area at the back with a lovely view over farmland and, in June, a beautiful wildflower meadow. The owners were very accommodating about arrival and check out. Warcop is an attractive village - pity the pub is closed down. We had the added bonus of Romany caravans and their horses on their way to Appleby. There is a very pretty stretch of river, great for young children, a short walk away.

Thank you very much for your positive feedback. We hope that the Warcop village pub renovations will be completed and that the pub re-opens. There is a nice pub, The Sandford Arms, in the next village of Sandford. Plus there are several good pubs (I know!) in the nearby towns of Kirby Stephen and Appleby-in-Westmorland. Lovely spot and plenty to do within a short drive. Literally the only thing I would do to improve it would be to add a side gate to keep dogs/children secure. Couldn't fault it at all and hope to one day return. Made good use of the board games and even relaxed enough to read a couple of books from the book case. Can highly reccomend a drink in the 'Taggy Man' in Kirby Stephen and a full English or stack of pancakes in Lily's cafe in Appleby.
