Very high quality appointments throughout, and spacious comfort for our twelve adults, two children and a Labrador. My very picky sister said it was the best bed she'd ever slept in!. The town is fascinating and the whole area is very beautiful. The kitchen and dining equipment is amazing--we could have catered for a wedding! We're hoping to return next year.

  • "The property was delightful and very spacious."

And thankfully the central heating was extremely effective as the weather had definitely turned a bit cooler! The bedrooms were all big and the beds were very comfortable. Sadly due to the inclement weather we couldn't make use of the garden but it too looked fantastic. We were spoilt for choice in dining places but settled on the kitchen as the dining table at the back of the house was in use for two 1000 piece jigsaws (see weather). A minor problem with the DVD was promptly and successfully dealt with. My friends and I all thought it was an excellent house in a lovely little town in a very beautiful part of the country. The nearby pubs were all very welcoming and the food was good. It's nice to visit a town which is not full of all the usual shops and the quirky nature of some shops made for a very enjoyable experience. I would mention the Poetry Pharmacy on High Street for an amazing and eclectic selection of both poetry and non-poetry books and Simpson's on Church Street for cards in particular. If you like books and cards respectively you won't go wrong with these two shops. And if you like second hand CDs and books then Yarmouth House is the place to go. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Laurels as a great place to stay.

The rooms were very comfortable, kitchen was well stocked and catered easily for a large group (13). We had lovely weather so made the most of the outside garden which was a delight especially for the children. Could I suggest that more permanent outside lighting would be better than the existing sensor light. A brilliant long weekend was enjoyed by all.

Great for hide and seek. Sun room was our favourite, followed by TV room with Sky package. Parked 5 cars. Bishops Castle has a few shops and pubs, plus a great Co-op, although we had a large Tesco delivery from Newtown on our first day. Large fridge and freezer, plus a beer fridge in the utility. We did “Come Dine With Me” so each of the 6 couples cooked for everyone on their night, we had Sunday Roast, Home made Pizza, Swedish meatballs (from IKEA), Greek, Saturday night party food and Chilli. Half of our party left at 6 am and climbed Snowden (2.5 hours away), the older half went to the excellent Carding Mill Valley (30 mins away). 2 days in Ludlow for the Food Festival and then shopping, Newtown and Shrewsbury also have a lot to offer. Finished with a birthday bash at the Castle Hotel, excellent food, plus a 10% food discount for mentioning the Laurels. Also great at lunchtime on the terrace. Flat entrance but there are a few steps for the sunroom and utility, so not great if you have a walker, plus some bedrooms have sloping floors. All of this adds to the experience in a grade 2 listed building. Thoroughly recommend.

Bishops Castle itself is a lovely ancient little town, pubs great (although sadly, some were closed) and all in the beautiful setting of the Shropshire Hills for walking (and even wild swimming in reservoir at Carding Mill!) and castle spotting. The kitchen is very well equipped and we managed to find everything we needed whilst we were using it. The kitchen was so well equipped that it had EVERYTHING that we needed - even the BBQ with it's own tools- an extra plus! We enjoyed long walks exploring Shropshire with our 2 dogs during the day and cups of tea, whilst recovering, in the beautiful garden which was fully enclosed so the dogs could explore without us worrying. We loved the 'garden room' which was great for jigsawing, and a choice of dining room was an extra bonus! I had looked at the photos on the website, but normally the photos portray a spacious feel to a house - the photos did not really do the property justice! It was BETTER than expected. I booked The Laurels as a surprise for my sons 50th birthday, and a family reunion, some of my children hadn’t seen each other for 5 years. The Laurels had lots of surprises, from the super well equipped kitchen, beautiful dining room, snug, enclosed garden. There is a toy cupboard with toys and games to accommodate babies to adult board games. The teenagers loved the games room, dart board and pool table, we made a lot of beautiful memories here. The owner has thought of everything, down to milk in the fridge to tea bags. The bedding is of good quality, we all had a very comfortable nights sleep. Thank you SO much. The housekeeper gave us a tour of the property which was really helpful. A couple of things to mention but not in a negative way. The heating was put on as we arrived, it was really cold and having a young baby with us wasn’t ideal, but we managed. One if the kettles in the kitchen had water left in it, which is a pet hate of mine, especially when the guest has no idea how long it had been in there. Thank you once again

The bedrooms were very comfortable and kitchen and eating rooms were very suitable for us all. A really beautiful house. Pat, the housekeeper met us and gave us lots of useful information and contact numbers in case of any problems ( there were none). The Laurels in Bishop’s Castle is in a very good part of Shropshire with lots of places to visit and very central for many walks on the Shropshire Hills. A lovely village, not too touristy. Trips we enjoyed were to Ludlow and Castle, Shrewsbury for a boat trip and a tour of the prison. The village Brewery tour and a local vineyard were very good. There were plenty of toys, indoor and out, and books. On the top floor , teenagers could have played pool, darts or on a PlayStation. ( the dads were found up here occasionally). • "The Laurels is an excellent comfortable house for large family groups, finely furnished and fitted."

It has a large kitchen, several dining and living rooms and a garden room, patio and large garden. Entrance for cars is narrow but four cars could park. Many TVs including a large games one in one of three attic rooms with games and an excellent toy cupboard on the ground floor. We were well looked after by the caretaker. Charming historical centre for walking with a good hotel, restaurants and pubs. We will recommend to friends and hope to visit again. Rail travel from Church Stretton 12 miles away is possible. The floor numbers are confusing in the listing and could be clarified.

  • "The Laurels is THE best cottage that we have ever rented from you and it deserves a higher rating in your brochure."

The housekeeper Pat, who is a member of the owner's family was wonderfully welcoming and very, very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and it was the best equipped place we have ever stayed. We celebrated our Golden Wedding Anniversary there with our immediate family (11 of us) and we had an outside caterer for the occasion, recommended by the owner. That too, was a wonderful meal. The location is great too for exploring beautiful Shropshire. We can't rate the Laurels highly enough - and can't wait to go again.
