  • "One of the best properties we have stayed in."

Very clean and everything was provided for a comfortable holiday. The house retains some of the original features which we loved. The garden was great and the undercover seating area is a great idea, if the weather was better would have made use if it. Would definitely book again.

  • "Fantastic house and the garden is huge!"

We stayed over Xmas and had a great week (really appreciated that the owners put up Xmas decor so we didn’t have to bring things with us), and can imagine it’s amazing in summer with all the outside space. Plenty of space for 5 of us and 2 dogs, very well equipped kitchen, really well decorated everywhere, lovely comfortable bedrooms downstairs with en suites and the main bathroom was a great size. You can tell a lot of work has been put into the place and it makes for a very pleasant stay. Everything was perfectly clean and tidy, I think you definitely get what you pay for. Location is also great, just a 10 minute stroll and you’re in Conwy town which we all loved.

The property is finished to a very high standard and is very comfortable and well equipped. The outside space is wonderful and despite the weather we found we were able to sit out. The kitchen is brilliant and we stayed in most nights as it was a pleasure to cook and sit in. It is only a short walk into Conwy which has some great bars , restaurants and shops. We ate at The Jackdaw which was a real treat and is a place for a special occasion. There is a brilliant butchers, cheese shop and several bakers. The owners were fantastic and made sure we felt at home and provided a welcome pack. We would thoroughly recommend The Old Schoolhouse , it is the best property we have ever stayed in and did not want to leave.

Hi Mark and party, Thank you for such a lovely review. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at the old Schoolhouse.. you are right the kitchen is the hub of the place and such a lovely place to entertain. The feature fires give it a homely and welcoming feel even when the weather is not very nice. We are so glad that you enjoyed the outside space as this will only get better as we have plans to improve over the winter months and look forward to a great ‘24. Couple of lights not installed at high level but a beautiful place to stay and they take great pride and care in the place and it shows throughout. If you’re looking for that something special and something different this is a lovely place to stay. Visitors book would be great as not only will this give feedback for Alan and Pam this also helps visitors no good places to go and to eat. Also other places we have stayed have given a welcome hamper which always comes across as a nice gesture even if secretly put into the price. Such things as a bottle of wine and local produce such as fresh juice, local milk from dairy farms, duck eggs, choc just a few little bits that we always remember from previous cottages we have stayed at. I must reiterate though that it was a beautiful stay. Bodnant garden is a lovely dog friendly place to go and erskine arms and castle view are nice places to go and eat and also dog friendly.

Hi James, Thanks for the feedback. The internet problem was outside of our control as the Vodafone mast locally was down causing the problem and this has only just been resolved (21/8) within the LL32 area. The basic welcome pack that we do provide consisting of tea, coffee, biscuits and fresh milk is also supported by our ‘honesty bar’ stocked with wine and beer so that guests can actually choose what they would like to drink, e.g red/white wine/ beer /alcohol free options rather than it be a ‘hidden’ cost. Plus the potential dietary choices/restrictions or allergies of guests are not known to us beforehand and we would not like to offend or affect any vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian etc or individuals with allergies. So we take a responsible approach as well as not passing on even more additional cost to guests unnecessarily. We do not publicise any recommendations as it is often down to personal preference and also the ratings of places go up and down over time and so the most accurate insights are via Google (providing the local network is working! :-). We are and have been available by text/WhatsApp to answer any queries or questions as effectively as possible but always stress that it is our own opinions. The Old Schoolhouse is still a work in progress and is improving over time, the chandelier lights have been manufactured but we have not had a guest free period to install them as yet. We have acted on your feedback and already purchased the guest book and general information booklet which will be available for future guests. Retaining door hooks will be installed this week to replace the doorstops already provided. We are glad that despite the internet issue you seemed to have a great time…. No internet sometimes opens up new experiences such as reading the antique classics from the bookshelf or passing the kids a vintage comic book for their ‘hands on’ entertainment… the pack of playing cards are located in the second drawer down in the kitchen island…classic way of bonding as a family…that’s why our own daughters are ‘card sharks’ ha ha :-). Hope to see you in the future. All the best Pam & Alan Property Owner

  • "I was looking forward to staying here as I have family friends who worked at the school in the early 1970s."

and whose daughter attended the school for a couple of years. And I wasn't disappointed. The property was immaculate, spotless and very clean, as well as very well equipped. The beds were very comfortable, although for me, the quilt was a little thick for summer, but that's a personal preference. The showers were excellent and there were more than enough towels. We were pleasantly surprised to find a large washing line, plenty of pegs, an airer, and a tumble dryer. It's amazing how many supposedly 'well equipped' places don't provide you with anything to dry washing and you end up with it draped over radiators and chair backs! The only gripes we had were minor. There were no kitchen scales, so when cooking I had to guess quantities. There was also no ladle or large serving spoon, which made serving food a little awkward. But there was plenty of cutlery, mugs (and wonderfully large mugs at that!), plates etc. Again, in our experience, it's amazing how many places have just 4 of everything. The kitchen was also very dark in the evening and at night, as the main overhead light was missing, presumably waiting to be fitted. There were plenty of other lights, but sitting to eat in the evening at the wonderful island unit was a very dark affair. However, our biggest gripe was that the internet failed on the Sunday morning and never returned. Whilst I appreciate it is very much a 'first world' problem, our grandson is autistic, and the presence of internet and his ability to be able to access his online world is very important and is a major factor in where we choose to stay. Fortunately, he was able to access the internet most of the time via my mobile phone, but it wasn't quite the same as he had to be near to me to do that. The lack of internet also meant we couldn't utilise the large Smart TVs to their fullest extent by logging in to Netflix or Prime; the poor and patchy TV signal in the area made it almost impossible to watch the TVs normally. Would I recommend The Old School as a place to stay? Yes, definitely. Will I go back again? Yes, more than likely.

Hi Sean & Family, First of all can I apologise for the internet as we were not aware of any problem until the following week when guests actually called us to inform us of this…. unfortunately this was totally outside of our control as it was a Vodafone mast issue within the area (we were not informed as the Order/bill is registered at our home address). Apart from the IT is seems as though you had a great time…The chandelier lights are ready for installation but the access to the high roof has been the problem, we hope to get it completed when there is a break in bookings. Did you find the under pelmet lighting ? It is around all the kitchen units and also the feature candles which illuminate the kitchen very well in ambient /mood lights as they can be set to warm or bright as a feature.. The kitchen weights that are physically on display are ‘old school’ antique ones but if you can convert ounces to grams then they are pretty accurate (and fun) to use. The Old Schoolhouse is a work in progress in so much as we’re trying to improve with the feedback from our guests ….thank you for the pointers and if you stay with us again these will have been addressed. Thanks Vincent for your lovely feedback. It was great meeting you all, thank you for letting Alan finish the Summerhouse which hopefully you put to good use during your stay. Step by step the property is improving, with subtle changes here and there plus the maturation of the planting scheme that Glenys our expert gardner has orchestrated. The owners have really thought about everything you'd need for a week away. Beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were lovely. Would highly recommend for older families or couples. It's only a 15 minute walk into Conwy. I think the only downside I could think of is that there's no parking, but we didn't struggle to park on the road nearby. Overall we had an amazing holiday here, thank you.

Thanks so much for your lovely feedback, we are so glad that you had such an amazing holiday and appreciated our efforts at the Schoolhouse, it has been a labour of love and will only get better as we try and improve it even more. The parking (or lack of it) was something outside of our control when we bought the dilapidated property but availability either a few metres further along on the roadside or round the corner in the car park has never been an issue. • "The Old School House has been carefully and tastefully renovated into a remarkable holiday home."

Lots of inside space well furnished and decorated. A modern shaker style kitchen with more than enough appliances to feed 2 or 3 families ( e.g. 2 microwaves and 2 fridges). Beautifully maintained garden with a large patio area complete with seating invites you to sit out in the sun, G+T/beer in hand (from the "honesty fridge" if you don't have your own supplies)!

Thank you for your lovely feedback, it brings a smile to our faces when The Schoolhouse is enjoyed as much by others as we do ourselves. The emphasis on facilities for entertaining and our obvious love of outdoor living seems to have been appreciated by yourselves and previous guests so that is great. The ‘honesty fridge’ is a reflection on beliefs and values… we are so glad it has been noticed. All the best and hope to see you again in the future… Regards Pam & Alan Property Owner

  • "What a fantastic house -we had a wonderful stay and were lucky to get the weather too."

We took advantage of the gorgeous gardens that are sunny all day with comfy spacious seating area. The owners have thought of everything in the house - it was spotless and plenty of crockery, glasses, cookware etc. The beds were very comfortable with good quality sheets and duvets/covers. The bathroom and ensuites were great - lovely powerful showers. The interior of the old schoolhouse has been tastefully decorated with lots of nice pieces dotted around - a lot of love and care has gone into this house for sure. Located outside the castle walls - we found it easier to drive into the town - only a few minutes drive and very easy to park. A younger group could easily walk in and out but we were a middle aged bunch of lazy bones :-) If you are thinking about booking - just do it - honestly you won't be disappointed.

Hi Peter, We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at The Old Schoolhouse….A strong emphasis was put on the outdoor space for both entertaining and also providing a tranquil space to relax. We cannot take all the credit as Glenys who planned and tends the garden is so knowledgeable about the plants and the vibrant colour scheme that she has created. We also look on in awe at her pride and joy, it seems to change almost weekly and as it all matures will be even better as it has gone from a building site to the excellent standard today in around 12 months. • "A really lovely house and very tastefully decorated; comfortable beds and plenty of seating in the living area."

The house is well located for easy access into Conwy and although the gardens are very well maintained, they are overlooked by the neighbouring houses. The kitchen was well equipped but we couldn't understand why there were two exact same microwaves!? We really enjoyed our week's stay in the Old Schoolhouse and would highly recommend it.

Many thanks for your positive feedback. Whilst the property has neighbours the layout and strategic placement of shrubs and trees is such that any overlooking aspect is / will be, (once matured) all but negated. Also there are existing areas that are fully private and enclosed for the safety of children and pets. The kitchen is designed to be an entertaining space and the reason for the two microwaves is simply to make the preparation and presentation of food much more efficient if preparing for a larger group to eat together. Our apologies for the slight delay in getting the plumber out for the resolution of the error code on the washing machine but that was resolved as soon as he was available (which was because of the Easter holidays). We are glad you enjoyed your stay and would welcome you back in the future. Best regards Pam & Alan Property Owner

  • "The Old school is a lovely place to stop in Conwy."

We were impressed with the location being so close to the action for village life, the rich history of Conwy castle and the close proximity to Llandudno and of course visiting Mount Snowdon. The interior of the property definitely had the WOW factor… A few small issues for us were: One of the bedrooms faces the road and the windows were very high up and were open and made the room cold and every time a car went past or birds sang their Dawn chorus it woke up my little girl. There wasn’t an option to close the windows but this would have solved the issue for us. There were also no instructions around bins or recycling but I messaged the owner regarding this! Other properties usually have a welcome book with instructions so this may have been useful here. A fabulous place to stay with ample room for 5 of us plus a small dog!! The only other thing which people need to know before booking is there’s no parking at the property itself. This can cause issues at times as this can be a busy road (especially whilst we visited) there are some new build properties being developed a little further up the hill and we often had to be careful as big lorries tried to squeeze down the road. The owners say you can park in free car park down the hill past the chip shop but it means your car is quite a distance from the property and one of our party was disabled so this was not ideal. Taking all into consideration though you will not be disappointed with The Old School. It is beautiful and it is a credit to the owners Pam and Alan and the little touches such as tea, coffee milk and biscuits were very welcomed. A perfect first visit to Wales.

Thanks for your great feedback, your points are noted and are being acted on. The parking is not normally a problem and for the infirm/elderly the road is wide enough directly outside the gates for them to be dropped off before parking safely either further up the road or on the free car park nearby. The building work further up is nearing completion and is out of our hands but is temporary inconvenience… walking on the narrow roads of the area you always have to be mindful. We are so happy that you found our property to be more than suitable for your needs and would welcome you back in the future.. Best regards Pam & Alan Property Owner

About the location

CONWY

Llandudno 5 miles; Betws-y-Coed 16 miles.

Conwy, a World Heritage Site, is without doubt world famous for its historical and architectural heritage, yet at the heart of the town lies a hub of bustling activity. Alongside its ancient festivals and fairs, musical recitals, galleries and historical attractions, there is an array of specialist shops, restaurants and hotels. Built for King Edward I between 1283 and 1287, Master James of St George's design, Conwy Castle remains one of the most outstanding achievements of medieval military architecture. The distinctive, elongated shape, with its two barbicans, eight massive towers and a great bow-shaped hall was perhaps determined by the narrow rocky outcrop on which the castle stands. The town is proud of its historic traditions and celebrates its past by retaining many of these in its annual festivals, events and fairs, including the Honey fair, Seed fair and Gwledd Conwy Feast in October, along with other musical events throughout the year. Conwy is the perfect base for exploring the dramatic Snowdonia National Park, walking unspoilt sandy beaches, or taking in the wonderful scenery on your doorstep. Also within reach are the Llechwedd Slate Caverns, which has the longest zip wire in Europe, and Surf Snowdonia is just six miles away.
