"When I read the guest book on my first evening at Gwdihw, I noticed that many of the entries were from guests who had stayed there multiple times and others saying that they would come back."
It didn't take me long to realise why, the cottage was comfortable and very well equipped, the location peaceful, the owners Ian and Bethan very friendly and helpful and as for the welcome 'basket' a real treat! There are so many places to visit and things to do in relatively close proximity that perhaps a week wasn't long enough. I would certainly book Gwidhw again and recommend it to friends if they were thinking of holidaying in 'that part of the world'
Thank you for your kind words. It was lovely to meet you. Your gardening knowledge also came in useful. You are very welcome to return . Property Owner
"Fabulous little cottage in a rural location."
Surprisingly spacious with low sloping ceilings upstairs. Nicely furnished, decorated and accessorised. Beds were comfy. No phone signal but wifi is OK. Great location to explore the region. We went from Powys to Chester and a lot in between. It is a truly beautiful area.
Thank you for your lovely feedback . Glad you enjoyed your stay. Shropshire and the Welsh Marches really are beautiful. Property Owner

"Spent a lovely week at Gwdihw."
Cottage was spotless, cosy and Ian and Beth were friendly hosts. They also left an amazing welcome hamper. But best of all was the peace and quiet of the rural countryside. Would highly recommend and plan to return next year.

"We had a lovely week here."
So quiet but close to nearby towns and the canal is within easy walking distance for walks in both directions. Beth and Ian couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. The cottage was really lovely, will definitely stay again if we holiday in the area
Thank you, we are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. Property Owner
"The cottage is really lovely, very well equipped and clean."
It's right in the countryside with lovely views, peace and quiet. Ian and Bethan were very welcoming and nearby if needed. It was really cold outside but the central heating and electric fire kept us warm and cosy. However, we missed reliable internet access as we needed to stay in touch with a family member but this would not be an issue for everyone wishing to stay.
Thanks for your feedback Ruth. We 're glad you enjoyed your stay back in Shropshire. Property Owner
"We absolutely loved this cottage, a fantastic renovation."
So very peaceful, we had sheep's in the field adjacent and horses in the fields behind. The welcome pack was a lovely touch, the cottage had everything we needed and more. Would 100% stay again if in that area.
Thank you Declan,we're glad you all enjoyed it. Would be lovely to host you again.Best wishes from Ian and Beth Property Owner

"The cottage was clean and well equipped, especially with regards to kitchen utensils etc."
A lovely quiet setting. The welcome pack was unexpected and very generous, a lovely surprise.
"Had a wonderful time in a great location."
It was nice to get away and relax. Very friendly owners. One of the most rural places we have been it's was nice to watch the rabbits and squirrels every day.
Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed it. Property Owner
"We travelled for work purposes and wanted a clean and comfortable base to relax each day after work."
This property was just what we wanted, with a washing machine to wash our dirty work clothes each day. The property is warm, spotless with modern furnishings. I would like to return on another occasion when not working to be able to take advantage of the beautiful scenery and explore the area properly. 10/10
Thank you Gary , you are welcome back anytime . Very good guests . Property Owner
"The property is very nice clean and comfortable and in a lovely position it was ..."
The property is very nice clean and comfortable and in a lovely position it was just a shame that we couldn't stay and enjoy our week as my husband was not well with a very bad chest infection and had to leave after a couple of days
Thank you for your feedback. Hope you will be able to return sometime. Property Owner
"A beautiful cottage set in a beautiful countryside location very clean & homely, close to lovely canal walks & little villages for supplies."
If you want to get away from it all, then this is the place to go just the birds singing Heaven.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed yourselves. Property Owner
"We had a great holiday in the cottage."
It is in a very peaceful location, but still close to lots of amenities (petrol station, supermarket etc). The owners Ian and Bethan are friendly and helpful, without being intrusive, and left a lovely welcome basket which we appreciated, as well as milk and butter in the fridge. The cottage is well appointed, tastefully decorated and the beds very comfortable. My two daughters (13 and 8) enjoyed the large Disney DVD collection and I liked the home/antique magazines! The WiFi worked well, but there is no mobile phone reception...not a problem for us as it added to the peaceful ambience, but might be for some. The canal is 10 minutes walk across fields from the cottage, which was nice for an after-dinner stroll. We also visited Chirk Castle and Chirk Aqueduct, both within 20 mins drive from the cottage. The tunnel at Chirk Aqueduct was a particular highlight for the children, but take your torches! N.B. One of the reviews mentioned the rough track leading to the cottage might be a problem for cars with low clearance. It is a bit muddy and wet, but our car had no trouble and it is quite low.
"Beautiful location, very peaceful and tucked away but still gets the sunset in the evening."
Lovely wildlife around the cottage including squirrels, rabbits, pheasant and lots of birds. Neighbour is the owner but far enough away not to be intrusive. I travelled alone for part of my holiday so advice from owner about where to go for walking and cycling was very welcome as well as knowing they were just next door. Cottage had absolutely everything I could wish for...I brought a few items along myself but cottage had everything. A very lovely welcome pack...also wonderful after quite a long journey. The cottage interior setup is exactly as described. I would definately return.
"We had a lovely week in this great cottage."
The owners are really friendly amd knowledgeable about local pubs, walks etc. Very quiet and relaxing place, cant wait to return!!
"This is a lovely cottage in a very peaceful location with plenty of 'wildlife' - rabbits, squirrels and (for us) 15 bird species."
Feeding the pheasant and squirrels added to the fun. There are plenty of nature reserves to visit so it was easy to maintain distance from other people. Gobowen (2 miles away) has a good little co-op, a post office and several takeaways. We had plenty of room but tall/large people will need to be aware of the sloping ceilings upstairs. They were not a problem for us (average heights). I noted a comment earlier about the bathroom but we did not find it to be a problem - in fact I thought it was quite spacious. Ian and Beth were ideal 'hosts' - available but not intrusive and Ian was very helpful in disposing of our many cardboard boxes from our medical supplies ("Thank you, Ian"). No EE phone reception but that was nice! Happy to recommend - just please don't book it when we want to go there next time!!
"Excellent accommodation we did not want to go home!"
The owners Ian and Beth were great thay made us feel so welcome
"WOW what a place this is, peaceful and very very quiet it's just the ticket for helping with mental health."
"This is a perfect cottage if you like ‘being away from it all’ - its tucked down some pretty country lanes, has zero passing traffic, and the only sound you’ll hear in this tranquil location are birds and sheep!"
! It’s also in a great place for walks along the nearby canal. It is comfortable, cosy and generally well-equipped and furnished. The hosts were welcoming and supplied a delightful selection of goodies on arrival. We felt the only disappointment was the bathroom, being somewhat of a squeeze, tucked in under low ceilings, making the shower very difficult to manoeuvre in and the basin almost impossible to use at all. Such a same as the utility room was huge and could easily have accommodated a wc and/or shower. Whilst there’s mention on the Sykes website of ‘cottage approached down an unmade track’ - it is worth noting that this rough, rutted track (whilst only short) would be tricky to negotiate in a vehicle with low clearance. Overall we had a great week and would highly recommend this cottage.
"All very good, and recommended."
Very happy with the location. Parking excellent. All in all one of the top cottages.
"We had a wonderful time staying at Gwdihw."
The property was spotlessly clean, had everything we could need (including good internet access) and was very comfortable and cosy. Despite Wales being out-of-bounds, we were still able to find lots to do in the surrounding area. There is a lovely walk along the canal (accessible from the property), Derwen College, Attingham and Park Hall Countryside Experience were all worth a visit. We will definitely look to return to take advantage of the Welsh offerings when we can.
"Fantastic cottage and owners, arrived to find a lovely welcome basket (nice surprise)."
Cottage was very clean and inviting and plenty of parking space outside. The owners were very welcoming and extremely helpful with local knowledge. The only downside of the holiday was all the hassle from SYKES will never use them again
"Great cottage to stay in ."
I couldn’t wait to tell everyone about it. Ian and Beth greeted us on arrival and was very helpful throughout our stay . Lovely surprise on entering the property with a gift from the owners .
"Very friendly hosts."
nice spacious property. they even bought us milk butter and bakeries before our arrival. we had a great time. perfect getaway from london
"Gwdihw is a very comfortable, light, airy & well-fitted out cottage in an excellent location."
You really don't even need to leave the property to have a lovely stay as you will be entertained by the squirrels & rabbits as well as a variety of garden birds; you may even hear the owls at night. There are walks straight from the door and several more beautiful hill walks about 20 minutes drive away. Ian & Beth are excellent hosts, offering a warm welcome on arrival &, throughout my stay, discretely ensuring I was enjoying myself, which I was. The Welcome Hamper is also the best I've ever encountered at a holiday cottage. Thank you, Beth & Ian, for enabling me to have a truly wonderful stay, escaping the current Covid-19 madness.
"The cottage is comfy & cosy & located in a very peaceful area."
The owners lived next door but not intrusive at all, they were very welcoming & at hand if we needed anything. I would thoroughly recommend this cottage if u enjoy the peace & quiet & enjoy getting away from it all.
"Gwdihw is a lovely, cosy cottage."
We especially liked the festive touches, a decorated Christmas tree, a lit garland up the bannister, candles and holly. The hamper was a complete surprise, how nice to be greeted by homemade mince pies amongst other goodies that I won't spoil the surprise on.
"This was a charming Cottage in a lovely location that suited all our needs."
It is placed perfectly for visiting the many National Trust properties in the area, then there are towns like Chester and Wrexham which are both extremely interesting and worth a visit as is Shrewsbury. The industrial heritage is also the almost on the doorstep with the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct only a short drive from the cottage. The local town of Oswestry has a selection of good supermarkets as does the local village of St Martins with plenty of choices for eating out or a takeaway from Gobowen. Couldn't have asked for more or done more a perfect holiday for the time of year.
"We had a fabulous time at Gwdihw Cottage."
It had everything we needed for our stay and there is lots to do in the surrounding area.
"Booking through Sykes always makes us feel secure that we are getting a good standard of accommodation and we have never been disappointed."
The accommodation is always just as described and of a high standard. Thank you, yet again, to Sykes Cottages.
"Lovely well appointed retreat ."
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Much appreciated welcome pack
"Idyllic location for total relaxation, lovely owners who are very helpful."
Plenty of beautiful places to visit in the surrounding areas.
"Very warm cosy cottage, which was beautifully clean."
Had everything we needed and the owners were very welcoming and helpful. It is peaceful and quiet and good location for visiting attractions in the area
"This is a fabulous little get-away-from-it-all bolthole - rurally located in a very pretty corner of Shropshire, and extremely peaceful."
The cottage is immaculately clean, beautifully furnished and very well-equipped. During a mid-winter stay, it didn't matter a jot that the ran and wind lashed against the windows part of the week because that just added to the cosiness! Owners Ian and Beth were lovely and offer quite the best welcome hamper we've seen. Thoroughly recommended.
"Ian and Beth have done a wonderful job of making Gwdihw Cottage into the perfect holiday getaway with excellent and easy parking ."
The Cleanliness and Tranquility and beautiful location are second to none and how nice to be met by them on arrival and to find not only a basket of Croissant , Wine etc on the Table but to find so many amenities....which exceeded our expectations. We would not hesitate to give 10 out of 10 all round Ian and Beth ....Thank you both very much . Diolch yn fawr iawn
"The cottage was in a lovely peaceful location and central to exploring the areas we wanted with culture on the doorstep, we were very impressed on first sight of the cottage and were met and shown round by Mrs Pritchard who explained the central heating operation as the weather had been changeable and told us the best route for a walk along the canal."
"Only that we had a great holiday and the cottage was beautiful, just what we were looking for."
In a lovely country location, just a short walk to the canal, and convenient to visit North Wales too. Both Mr and Mrs Pritchard we’re very welcoming and hospitable, happy to help if required. Hopefully we will go back.
"We were very happy facilities provided and the welcome response from the hosts ."
The only slightly negative point would be the slightly small shower
"We had a great time at Gwdihw Cottage."
It was perfect for us and our 1 year old son. The cottage is immaculate and we loved the decor. It was great to have use of a good quality travel cot and high chair and the large utility room was also really handy. The only improvement for me would be for the kitchen to be a bit better equiped. We stayed in must night, due to our little boy and would have been great to have use of more equipment. However as this is a new property, this will building up over time, im sure. Overall a wonderful stay!
"Had a great time at the cottage lovely space very homely and great location"
"From the very start we were made to feel most welcome by Beth and the hamper was a lovely unexpected surprise."
The location was perfect for us as we like to go walking and there are plenty of places to visit. The accommodation was fabulous it was like being at home, there was everything that you could possibly want. We will most definitely be returning..
"Great helpful staff at Sykes made booking this cottage for the guys who work for us very easy."
Very reasonable price for such a fantastic place to stay very clean & comfortable
"The cottage was perfect, very comfortable."
The hosts were very welcoming and friendly.
"The property was an excellent standard but the area wasn't very good for tourism."
You had to go a fair distance away to see anything of interest.
"The owners, Beth and Ian, were most hospitable and very friendly."
They have invested a lot of love and care into this property, and it contributes to a wonderful holiday experience. Thank you!
"Lovely well appointed cottage in very peaceful surroundings."
Great cycling and walking from the front door.
"Excellent cottage in a brilliant location with walks on your doorstep."
