Great value for money. Only gripe, no eggcups. Don't forget to use the hooks for bird feeders, you will get some lovely visitors

Great location for exploring but I was also staying for the BTCC race meet at Croft circuit just a few miles away and couldn't have been easier to get to. I will definitely be booking again

2 Pepper Arden. The apartment was very comfortable, and well equipped. Very quiet area which was appreciated. No issues at all during our stay. Close to some National Trust properties. Thirsk and Northallerton worth visiting.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay in No2 Pepper Arden."

The flat provides excellent accommodation for a small group (we were 3). The owners attended to, and fixed, a slight problem we found when we arrived, very promptly. We were impressed with the welcome pack. The location is ideal for country walking and although supermarkets require a short car journey, there are two pubs serving food within a couple of miles. We would have no hesitation in going back to stay again or recommending it to others.

  • "Whilst the flat is in general good order, the buildings at Pepper Arden are badly in need of significant maintenance…sad to see a lovely building in need of basic repair."

We did read prior to visiting a number of negative comments about not being able to use the grounds of the main house - we feel that there are a number of excellent walkways that more than compensate for this restriction. 1. Our two major complaints were as follows: the smaller bedroom did not have internet coverage. These days many holidaymakers seek good internet connection for a range of activities. We ended up having to pay just over £60 to purchase a WiFi extender to allow the guest using this room adequate coverage. 2. On our third day we were surprised to hear some very heavy drilling coming from the first floor next door. We learned from a permanent resident that it was a pity we stayed at that time “because of the noise”. The noise did continue at different times in the following days. In the event we had assessed our stay as a relaxing location as not meeting our needs and hence checked out two days earlier that contracted - we left by 9am on the Thursday rather than the following Saturday. We found a better suited property in nearby Northallerton. Professor C F A Bryce

  • "A beautiful apartment, well equipped and the welcome pack was a lovely touch, thank you."

As vegans we found the animal skin rugs a little difficult but lots of people wouldn't be concerned. We often visit National Trust properties and enjoy seeing the servants quarters so loved the chance to actually stay in some! We chatted with a lady next door about the history of Pepper Arden but it would have been lovely if any information or old photographs had been available.

The property was beautiful, perfectly represented by the photos on the website. We were welcomed by a gorgeous welcome pack providing all we would need for early refreshments. The location was extremely peaceful and a beautiful building. We had a beautiful meal in the local Arden Arms on the Sunday as recommended in other reviews, we explored the wider area and had many days out including Brimham Rocks, York, Robin Hoods Bay Highly recommended

It is on a lovely peaceful estate. The flat itself is beautifully decorated and furnished with all the facilities we needed and more. There are some lovely walks around the area but we were disappointed that we could not walk in the gardens even if our time was stipulated.

  • "Lovely apartment very quiet and peaceful , all the little extras were a nice surprise ."

IE welcome pack including Prosecco , the lovely towelling robes and quality bathroom products excellent. Thank you . Even the tv mast burning down and having no tv or radio for the week did not spoil holiday . Personally I found it a little remote as would of liked to be nearer village to be able to walk into had to drive to shop/pub . But overall a very pleasant break .

The owner has worked hard to make this holiday home special. We appreciated the high spec and the design of the property, loved the turn of the century furniture and industrial finish. The grounds are stunning! The only improvement I would say is an outside eating/sitting area would be icing on the cake. The welcome pack with Prosecco was a brilliant surprise! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

The property

No .2 Pepper Arden is a charming first-floor apartment, attached to the rear of Pepper Arden Hall and forms part of Pepper Arden Estate, covering 200 acres of stunning Yorkshire countryside.

Boasting stunning views over to the North York Moors National Park, this property enjoys a rural position with easy access into the North York Moors or the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Inside, the property has been extensively renovated into a stylish and contemporary holiday home whilst still managing to retain some of its period features such as the original wooden floors which have been restored to their former glory.

Follow the steps up to the first floor and discover a spacious open-plan living space where you can look forward to unwinding into the evening with your loved ones.

The kitchen has been fitted to a high-standard and houses all the appliances you could need to rustle up some delicious meals for the whole family.

Gather at the dining table for a hearty breakfast whilst planning the day's events.

Once the evening draws to a close, retire to a king-size or double bedroom to get some much needed rest for the days ahead, both benefitting from a family shower room with deluxe fixtures and fittings.

Whilst you're in the area, travel towards the beautiful North York Moors National Park and its heather-clad moors for ample walking and cycling opportunities, or the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The nearby market town of Northallerton provides a range of traditional Yorkshire pubs and restaurants if you don't fancy cooking one evening or a choice of shops and supermarkets for picking up those last-minute essentials.

Choose to visit the bustling town of Richmond for a range of tourist attractions including the Norman fortress of Richmond Castle and the historic Easby Abbey.

Or visit Richmondshire Museum and Lucy Pittaway Art Gallery for a spot of culture, whilst the nearby National Trust area of Hudswell provides plenty of walking opportunities.

There are lovely bridlepaths and footpaths that lead to the nearest village of East Cowton where you’ll find it’s cosy local pub The Beeswing.

The perfect place to enjoy a meal or maybe just a few drinks in front of an open fire.

Just half a mile up the road is another pub, the Arden Arms, that serves the best Sunday lunches around.

You can explore the estate, and there are short walks to Pepper Arden Bottoms Nature Reserve, the historic castle and church of St. Mary’s.

About the location

NORTHALLERTON

Thirsk 9 miles.

Northallerton is a County town and administrative centre of North Yorkshire, located at the foot of a ridge dividing two river basin areas, the Wiske and the Cod Beck, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the edge of the Vale of York, between the Hambleton Hills and the Yorkshire Dales. This thriving town boasts market days on Wednesdays and Saturdays, when both sides of the High Street are home to stalls selling a wide range of goods and produce, plus on the fourth Wednesday of the month the market is joined by a farmers' market. Despite its modest size, Northallerton has a number of independent and national shops, including Betty’s Tea Rooms, Lewis & Cooper, an outstanding delicatessan and wine merchant, award-winning butcher’s, artisan baker, greengrocers, two department stores, several supermarkets and bookshops. With good rail links to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Durham and York, the activities are not just restricted to the countryside. Situated equidistant between the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, the opportunities for exploration are endless. These include a day at the races at one of the many local courses, including Thirsk, a family trip to the unique Forbidden Corner at Middleham, a trip to a country house such as Newby Hall, Kiplin Hall and Castle Howard, or a round of golf. The restored Victorian resort of Saltburn, plus the pretty beaches and coves of Runswick Bay, Sand's End and Robin Hood's Bay, along with the town of Whitby, are all within one hour's drive away.
