"The cottage is in an excellent location, right across the road from Pickering Station which meant that our train mad little boy could see lots of trains (this was the main reason for booking the cottage)."
We had requested travel cot and high chair but on arrival, nothing had been set up. Travel cot was quickly found but high chair wasn’t delivered until the following day which meant dinner and breakfast was not exactly relaxing with a fourteen month old. The lady who was trying to find the high chair though was really lovely and tried her best. We thought the cottage was quite unclean, found a jug clump of hair on the bedside table and generally it felt like it needed a deep clean, even towel rail had a layer of dust. For me, I felt like I couldn’t properly relax. I would use Sykes again, communication prior to visit was very good but sadly wouldn’t wish to stay in this cottage again.
"Such a lovely cottage in a very convenient location."
Pickering is a great place to stay.
"Pictures on line did not do justice to size of accommodation."
Information on surrounding area very helpful. Had a great weekend in Pickering. Could not have been nearer to heart of village.
"We had a lovely stay,as end of november, railway was closed,my only complaint which i know is not owners fault parking way too far in heavy rain, permit to park outside would be better."
"Platform 2 & 3/4 is a very nice cottage in an ideal location."
It is especially great for steam train enthusiasts, being directly across from the NYMR Pickering Station. The cottage is decorated with lots of railway memorabilia. As it rained on the return leg of our steam train ride to Whitby, it was nice to only have to cross the road to get back to the cottage. Thank you Matthew for the use of your unique property and the welcoming gifts you left for us. We would highly recommend platform 2 & 3/4 to other visitors.
"We have used this cottage a number of times now, for us it is central to the town and railway."
We also have family in the area and it is large enough for the odd gathering. We noticed a small problem in the bathroom on arrival but Matt the owner was quick to attend the cottage and sort the problem, it’s nice to know things get sorted quickly. We have further booked the cottage into next year, it is starting to be a second home.
"Lovely clean cottage in perfect location."
Spacious and very well equipped. Brilliant communication and so welcoming. Thank you for a wonderful stay would highly recommend.
Brilliant for train enthusiasts. Excellent for shops and all amenities.
"Cottage was lovely and clean when we arrived , parking permit had run out but e mailed Mathew and he brought new one the very next day which I thought was good ."
Every thing we needed in the kitchen including a freezer . We arrived during a heat wave and that's how it staid all week downstairs was lovely and cool but up stairs was very hot ended up buying a couple of fans to keep us cool . The location of the cottage was perfect everything on your doorstep and good walks as well [ only used my car once in all the time we was there ] cannot really fault the cottage but would prefer a walk in shower rather than the bath and would pave the back way as the green artificial turf isn't ideal for dogs in hot weather and slate chippings get very hot . only moan you will hear from me, just like to say a big thank you to Mathew for a great holiday and am looking at booking his other cottage further up
"Very local for steam train and transport shops the only problem the stairs very steep great bakery 2doors up could of done with a wellcome book on walks and how to use the heating."
"We have used the property a number of times now and it’s the best in the area for position, equipment, and fulfills our requirements."
"The cottage was lovely cool downstairs fairly hot upstairs."
The bed was comfortable and the sheets and towels were very clean .It was opposite the railway which was a bonus as you could see all the engines comming in and out.Lovely walks to the castle and around the area .We did not use the cooker as we ate out most of the time as there were various pubs tea shops and restaurants. Although it was for a family of six we only used one of the rooms .The shower was okay plenty of hot water. Only one downside was the back gate had been left open after a delivery of the laundry and fred nearly escaped other than that we would visit again although the price for next year has gone up 50%for the same time so we will maybe look elsewhere on the whole a very nice cottage and break Ps it's best to maybe get a latch on the front door as I man followed me in thinking it was the book shop.
"Fantastic location next to the station and just round the corner from the main shops, but still nice and quiet."
"Great location and and wonderful little town."
The shower was a little poor but in general all very useful and comfortable.
"Cottage is the perfect location."
Our boys would like to live here when they’re older! Owner is helpful via email. We would visit again.
Great for dogs but be careful of the back gate! Well located & no problems parking outside for unloading/ loading the car. Would definitely recommend.
"I have sent an email and pictures regarding the property"
"A beautiful cottage to stay in and lovely furnishings."
Clean bedding and clean towels all provided. Very homely. Cottage was in an ideal location in Pickering only a short drive to Whitby Bay and York. The village of Pickering itself was beautiful, everyone very friendly. Enjoyed lovely meals at the Bay Horse Inn very friendly landlady and bar staff. Food was really enjoyable, well worth a visit. Would certainly be booking up to come back and stay again. Can't fault this cottage and the area in anyway, just wish our stay had been longer!!
"This is our fourth stay at this beautiful cottage very comfortable clean beds ..."
This is our fourth stay at this beautiful cottage very comfortable clean beds and white bath towels everything you need is there lovely warm stove on a cold night shops nearby lots of places to visit plus dog walking Brilliant 7 days only one problems 200 yards to park your car is a bit of a isue other wise fantastic hoilday
"It was in a great location close to shops."
The cottage was lovely and well equipped and the owner gave us lots of local information. Would use again.
"Lovely cottage in a brilliant central location."
Only slight negative was the cottage lacking a bit of privacy by not having curtains or blinds on one window and not having enough glasses for the visitors, but this didn't detract from the enjoyment.
"The cottage was very nice."
...lovely and warm with the multi fuel burner. The cleanliness could be tweaked a little. The little yard was brill for the dogs..decking getting a little slippy with the wet weather. beds were clean and comfy :0) All in all we enjoyed our stay . The parking was changed from the Trout farm to the council car park which my husband wasn't pleased about at all..we had to keep moving the car. If it had been the council parking at the time of booking we wouldn't have booked.
"The cottage was ideally located for our trip and was set up with a Christmas tree which was a very nice touch."
The parking is further than the 200 yards but still not a long way away. The cottage was very, very cold when we got there and took quite a while to warm up. We couldn’t find any heating instructions so we had to use trial and error! The front bedroom radiator was turned completely off and we couldn’t make that work at all but the person in that room likes it cold so it was fine for us, but maybe not other guests and none of the beds were that comfortable, particularly the twin beds together. The facilities were very good and we had everything we needed although we didn’t cook at all. I feel this place would benefit from a instruction manual for the heating, cooker, tv etc, but having said that, we would happily stay here again and recommend platform 2 3/4.
"We enjoyed being so central to everything, then being next to the steam railway station."
The station pub were excellent with there hospitality. The cottage was clean spacious and more than I expected.
"Great place to stay in Pickering."
Close to all amenities, pubs, shops, eateries etc. Good size for 4 adults. Will book again.
"Great cottage as described on line."
Nothing disappointed, contact person very helpful and returned call promptly.
"It's a lovely cottage in the ideal location for local shops, train station and to attractions that we had planned to visit."
Information about the property, car parking instructions, facilities in the cottage was all clear and available when needed. Will definitely recommend Skye cottages and this property to family and friends.
"The position of the cottage was great, the trains opposite and the high street a 100 yards away."
The car park was a bit of a walk, but if you go around to the community hall about the right time you can park there easily. As we were there to visit family it was a great layout and even hosted lunch one day, so the cottage facilities were put to the test and past. The best recommendation is if you would use a place again, and I have already booked this cottage for next year.
"Love the cottage, it's so comfortable and there is plenty of space."
The area is lovely with lots to do and places to visit not to mention the lovely steam trains - brilliant. We've come here on holiday for the last 3 years and have booked already to return again next year.
"This was a lovely cottage and extremely clean."
We has a lovely stay and will be back
"Gorgeous cottage in an ideal location , Pickering is amazing ."
An abundance of shops and fantastic pubs and restaurants , spoilt for choice ! Highly recommended place to stay and would recommend a visit to the Station Pub a couple of doors down . Only downside was the Wi-Fi in the house was non existent.
"Lovely cottage, well looked after, would benefit from the addition of a dishwasher, extra t."
Towels and an oven glove, also bed side lights would be nice too. Having said all that, these are only minor niggles that in no way detract from the quality if the offering at this cottage. Overall we enjoyed our short break enormously, and would not hesitate to book it again.
"I have booked several holidays with Sykes and have stayed at Platform 2 2 3/4 previously."
Pickering is a great location for visiting the coast and the moors. The properties I've stayed in have always been an accurate reflection of their description. I'm back in Pickering in June, looking forward to it.
"Overall a relaxing holiday in a lovely location."
Cottage is lovely, but we found the mattress on the bed in the back bedroom to be rather soft
"We stayed for a Christmas break and found the cottage to be perfect for our needs."
Situated very well in Pickering town this was a warm and cosy cottage. It was clean and had a lovely roomy kitchen with plenty of space and equipment provided. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds very comfy. There is lots of talk about the parking in previous reviews, so this is our take on it. The owner arranges free parking for one car at a nearby long stay car park - this is a 5 min walk from the cottage and you can usually walk through the station, making it a pleasant walk too. There is free night time parking across the road (6pm - 8am) during the day this is restricted, but the owner gives top tips for other free parking and at the long stay car park you can get a half price deal if you chat to the nice lady there and let her know you are part of the cottage party. If you have dogs (or toddlers or both) then be reassured that there is plenty of space downstairs and all the flooring is laminate or tiled (phew!). We loved the little nods to trains - the hearth, the dining room display and the bathroom sign were our favourites. Of course we didn't make much use of the little garden, but in the summer I can imagine it will be great space to sit and enjoy the evenings. There are plenty of walk from the doorstep, as well as good pubs and restaurants. It's half an hour drive to Scarborough, Whitby and Filey and just 10 mins to Flamingoland. All in all a great family destination. Loved it!
"Wonderful cottage every thing you could possibly need."
Friendly owner who gave great recommendations on places to eat etc
"Good communication between owner."
Perfect location. Beautiful cottage.Would highly recommend.
"This cottage is brilliantly located for shops, NYMR and possibly best fish and chips in the world."
Owner contacted re. arrangements for key in timely manner. Clean, well equipped and nice little extras like milk in fridge, biscuits etc. Highly recommended!
"Pickering is as lovely little quaint market town, the steam trains are a by gone age experience no to be missed and the cottage we stay at (Platform 2 3/4) is brilliant do much so this was our 4th stay and we're book in to stay again later in the year - we just love it."
"We enjoyed being so close to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Station, Just pop out the front door, across the road and into the station."
Pickering is a lovely town with some nice cafes and pups, and everyone was friendly. The only downside was parking the car having to do a 10 minute walk every day each way to get too and from the car.
"The parking for the cottage is 10mins walk away but you can park across from the cottage from 5pm in the evening until 9am the next morning."
We did this and there is also free parking just over from the cottage go over the little bridge and parking to the left side. We also parked there if we wanted to stay longer.
"The cottage was very nice, in fact I could live there."
Cottage was tastefully decorated and all the people we met were most pleasant. Lots to do in North Yorkshire.

"We booked this cottage as fans of Harry Potter and decided it would be a great cottage to stay pending our wedding during the week."
The cottage was fantastic and felt homely for our entire stay. The space in the cottage is great so you never feel like you are on top of each other! We felt as though the cottage welcomed you with open arms on our arrival. Will be taking lots of memories home, now as a Mrs :)
"Great cottage in a great location, it's really lovely to be able to see the steam trains arriving and leaving, it's like going back in time."
Cottage just a few doors away from a fabulous tea room serving the most delicious scones!
"A great little cottage in a great location"
"I love Pickering and I love NMYR, How could I not love this holiday."
The only downside is the difficulty in parking. Mat has arranged free parking up the road but ir seemed vastly more than the 3-400yards as described. (I should mention that there is a lovely alternative to the narrow road with heavy traffic; it involves crossing to Platform 1, across the NMYR car park then along the side of the beck, across a beautiful meadow and down a lane, all flat and straight except for a stile). The house was so neat and tidy and well equipped for our simple needs. My Grandson said his favourite bit was tending the fire and the dog said hers was lying in front of it. A great, relaxing holiday.
