  • "The cottage/bothy, set in the grounds of Cheviot Manor, was much bigger than we expected and was spotlessly clean."

    The bothy had everything we needed and the communal facilities were an added bonus. The indoor pool was lovely and very clean - and the games room had snooker and pool tables, table tennis and table football, which kept my teenage daughter entertained in the evenings. We stayed at three other properties during our road trip to the north, but the Cheviot Manor cottages were by far the best. Our only regret is that we didn't get to stay longer. Next time.

  • "This could be an amazing place to stay if the owners spend a bit of money."

    There is a date stone outside the property from 1992 and there have clearly been no updates since then!!! The interior is old and fusty, and in a big bathroom, no shower! Such a shame as the cottage is based on a complex of old farm houses and barns - there used to be an indoor swimming pool and bistro and gym which are all closed up and have been for some time (so the locals say). The description on the Sykes website made it sound like it was a little cottage on its own. This could be a perfect place for a few family groups to book and go on holiday together. Our cottage had a lovely private courtyard to sit outside in the sun. Other cottages have the same and some have gardens. Based just 2 miles from Wooler it’s in a great location - all the tourist spots were half an hour away in different directions. I just hope the owners read this and realise that they are sat on a goldmine and with a bit of investment and better advertising Akeld Manor and Cottages could be wonderful!!!

    Dear Cara Just an update. We’ve been working hard at Akeld and investing substantially. Showers installed now in most properties, regular glowing reports on cleanliness, swimming pool, sauna and bar now open, and still surrounded by possibly the most beautiful countryside in the country! Known locally as 'The Gateway to The Cheviots', Wooler has a selection of hotels and eating places and offers a magnificent location for exploring the whole of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.
