  • "The stay at the property purely went from bad to worse."

On arrival we were told that there was a slight odor to the property but to open the windows and it will go. This was so very wrong. The smell of leaking fuel was unbearable! There was an active oil leak somewhere on the heating system and two of the guys had painful headaches after the first night from the smell. It turned out the owner was aware of this leak and was happy to allow people to stay overnight anyway, regardless of the risk of fire hazard and obvious risk to human health and life. The leak was fixed lunchtime on the 2nd day. But still it was awful and understandably no one wanted to stay there. On the second night we were offered use of a caravan across the road but it was only 2 bedroom. We took this opportunity but couldn't all stay. At 10pm we realised there was no running water to the caravan which meant no shower or toilet could be used. On the Sunday I went to speak with the owner (Phil) to discuss the issues we had experienced. Phil was instantly angry. I explained about some of the party experiencing headaches, he said he didn't believe them and they were lying. He said we simply needed to close the kitchen door, very inaccurate and untrue as it was unbearable! He said we were idiots if we needed to be told to close the kitchen internal door! I explained about the issues with water in the caravan and he wasn't prepared to accept that it wasn't right and it was an easy fix. At 10pm we weren't going to start running round searching for a tap! It was down to him to ensure the accommodation was fit for purpose. He then exploded, started shouting refusing to listen and stormed off slamming a door, with all his staff bearing witness!! It was absolutely disgusting behavior and unbelievable that he treats customers or anyone in this manner!! I saw Phil again later on and asked for an apology and he refused to be any part of it whilst calling me names about how I speak. WARNING! Do not even consider staying at this property!! On a side note, his team are really lovely and work really hard to ensure things run smoothly, often fixing Phil's furious explosions! It seems this is a frequent act.

  • "The cottage was absolutely lovely, we stayed in it while we are on a camp at Kelsall."

The only comment I would make is that there was an extremely strong smell of diesel in the cottage, which we reported and they did look into.

  • "Great holiday cottage!"

Light, bright, warm and cozy. Well maintained garden, and easy access to nearby towns and villages. Nice, well thought out kitchen with all basic needs covered. Obviously it is by definition an older property and therefore you should not expect perfection, There are some small things that need minor attention, but we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely consider coming back again!

.the back door is not easy to lock and unlock. Biggest problem is the bathroom door handle it is not working and i actually got stuck in the bathroom as it would not open. luckily there was someone else in the house who pushed a knife under the door. if it had been my granddaughter she would have been very upset and if there had been no one in the house as well it would be a big problem Toiletries in the bathroom would be good even if it was just handwash Otherwise everything seemed ok

  • "Accessing the property was easy using the lock box as we arrived in the evening."

However, on entering the property, we noticed that there were cobwebs around the living room ceiling and cups and cutlery in the kitchen needed cleaning before use as had food stuck to them. A positive was that the kitchen was well stocked with cutlery and crockery for use. Upstairs the shower was in need of a good upgrade as mould was evident in the seal and around the doors and the shower caddy was rusty and unusable. Topping this off though was having to move bedroom draws( children had dropped toothbrush behind) and finding a sanitary towel stuck to the wall! Due to the short length of stay we did not report this at the time but felt as though this cottage could be a lovely stay if cleanliness was properly maintained.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to hear that everything was not to your satisfaction and have taken immediate steps to address the issues raised. The cleaners have been advised of the areas requiring attention and remedial action has been taken. Maintenance has been scheduled to resolve the issues with the shower sealant and cubicle. We can only apologise for the discovery behind the bedroom drawers. Moving furniture was not previously part of the cleaners brief, it has now been added to the routine inspection schedule. We do hope you will return on another occasion, and that these matters did not impact your stay too much. Kelsall Hill Equestrian Centre Property Owner

  • "We booked the cottage for 18 nights whilst we had building work done on our house locally ."

We requested a vacuum cleaner to be told that if they could not drop it off we could go a pick one up! My granddaughter would not visit due to the mice,I was told by Jane when I rang that mice are part of the joys of the countryside, in my opinion the smell is not joyous, although they do provide Mouse traps! The sofas are old and uncomfortable, likewise having the bed pushed against the wall does not make it easy to get in the bed. The rooms are spacious they just need rearranging. The worst thing was the dirty shower with a rusty holder for toiletries.

  • "We loved the cottage and had a wonderful holiday."

Our two children loved their stay and it was great that there were so many toys provided. My only query is that I wish that it had stated that the cottage was on such a busy main road as this was a little bit worrying as we had such a young child as part of our party. However he had a wonderful time playing in the spacious garden. Thank you for a great break. We would definitely return.

Thank you for your feedback. We are delighted to hear that you had a wonderful holiday. We do appreciate the road outside the cottage is a busy one. There is off road parking available at the rear of the property which can be accessed directly from the rear garden of the cottage. We are pleased to hear your little one enjoyed playing in the garden and hope to see you again soon. Kelsall Hill Equestrian Centre Property Owner

We did do some cleaning ourselves there was grease on the oven trays the high chair was dirty we did not use it ,the table was sticky we cleaned etc etc , the stairs are really steep to go upstairs to the bedrooms the bathroom room was nice big but again the shower caddy was rusty it just gives a bad impression they cost a few pounds to replace , the sofas have seen better days they sink in the middle also as reported in one of the reviews there was lots of open packets of spices ,sugar etc from previous tenants this is not best idea in the present climate , the cottage needs some TLC and a new cleaner .A outside at the back would be helpful

  • "We had a lovely stay in the cottage which is ideally located to explore the area and it is cosy and comfortable."

However it is not up to the standard of a Sykes 4 star property and is in need of some TLC. When we arrived, we had to purchase and replace the stairway light bulb as there are no spares, temporarily repair curtain hangers and clean the kitchen surfaces, chopping and food preparation boards and oven trays. The cupboards contain aged food products from previous occupants which shouldn’t have been left in the current health ‘climate’. The kitchen cupboard door next to the oven is melted and badly burned giving rise to a safety concern when you first arrive. Property information needs updating, in particular there is no information on what days to leave out recycling bins or food waste bins. The roof above the attic bedroom window needs attention as the ceiling plaster is soaked probably due to a missing or displaced roof tile. TV aerial reception is poor, only BBC 1 and BBC 2 are viewable. At present this is not a 4 star property, but it wouldn’t take much to make it one.

Thank you for your feedback. It is a shame that you did not make contact during your stay as we would have assisted you if we had been made aware of any issues. I have since spoken to the cleaner about the cleanliness comments and this will be addressed by them. Unfortunately, a previous guest had melted the cupboard door next to the oven and a new door is on order and will be fitted as soon as possible. The heating has been turned up and we are going to repaint any damp areas and the TV- channels have been re-tuned Thank you again for your comments. Property Owner

  • "The accommodation suited our needs however there were just a couple of small points that could receive attention: 1."

The driveway leading to the rear of the property could be trimmed back as the brambles came into contact with our car. 2. The bathroom wash basin plug didn’t function properly. 3. The information folder was out of date and the CO2 Test Certificate was out of date. 4. Couldn’t see any PAT test certification on appliances. 5. Couldn’t see the point of an empty bookcase in the dining room - it just takes up limited space. These are just minor observations and would not influence me on not staying again.

Views and walks were incredible just like being at home. We were in Chester for a family wedding which was great and would visit again however, the adults were unable to sleep due to the extreme noise of the traffic. It was fast and ongoing all night no matter which room you were sleeping in. This really spoilt our holiday as we were all so tired.. On the day of our departure the cleaners turned up at 9am on the doorstep it all felt really rushed we were packed and out by 9.25am so it was not like we were late and putting them behind. Other than no sleep we enjoyed our stay. Mrs Upton
