  • "Cherry Tree Cottage was wonderful!"

Very clean, kitchen has everything you need and the beds were extremely comfortable. We also enjoyed their box of DVDs with a good range for kids and adults. Location was perfect, walks straight from the door out onto thorpe cloud, also very close to Tissington trail walk and great access to high peaks and Ashbourne. Great pub the old dog which is 10 minutes walk (up a hill!) Or few minutes drive and Ashbourne has loads of restaurants and cafes only 5 minutes drive away. No phone signal but good wifi. This cottage was a little slice of heaven, a real tranquil escape. Highly recommend.

  • "A really nice comfortable cottage in a quiet village."

It had everything we needed and it was nice to be provided with milk, biscuits and a box of Christmas crackers (we stayed over Christmas), particularly as we had forgotten to bring our own crackers. The kitchen was well equipped and we could easily cook a meal for five, the beds were comfortable, and there is a decent hot shower. We particularly appreciated the use of the outdoor boiler shed to store and dry our wet and muddy boots and clothes, of which we accumulated quite a lot through the week. The location is perfect for walkers, with Dovedale, Thorpe Cloud, Ilam Park, the Tissington Trail and the Limestone Way all being on the doorstep. There are also several stately homes within easy driving distance. One very minor point is that the dining chairs pictured in the listing have been replaced by harder wooden ones, though this is hardly a deal breaker, and more hooks for hanging clothes and towels in the bathrooms and bedrooms would have been useful.

Thank you for taking the time to give constructive feedback. I have purchased seat cushions for the dining chairs so people can sit longer if wanted. Hooks have been provided where possible.. Property Owner

  • "Okay, sorry for the long review but I need to do justice to this cottage and it's location."

This is our second stay at Cherry Tree Cottage and again we loved it! The views from the front are lovely, over the fields, watching the ponies, and the rabbits playing. The clear winter's nights were lovely, there is very little light pollution in the village so the stars were bright and really stood out. Walk out of the cottage to the right and up past the church there are spectacular views over the hills. Walk to the left and you are at the start of the walk up The Cloud or around The Cloud to Dovedale and Ilam, Ilam is a beautiful village and Dovedale is a lovely walk along the river and over the stepping stones, if you feel more energetic you can walk to Milldale. We also walked to Tissington, a lovely picturesque village, where they still leave out eggs etc. and a honesty box..amazing!, and you can walk the Tissington Trail from here. The snow had yet to melt away while we were here so it was a really pretty landscape. Ashbourne is approx 9 minutes away by car and there are numerous shops, places to eat, a supermarket and mini-markets, there is a pub in Thorpe but while we were there it was only open Thursday to Sunday so we didn't get chance to try it as we had other things planned but looking on-line it has good reviews and we'll try it next time. The cottage is lovely, clean, well laid out and very spacious and can easily accommodate 5 people but yet has a cosy feel for those cold winter nights. There is everything you need for your stay, everything you would require for cooking and a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave etc etc, all listed on the cottage details, we didn't want for anything. Full bath and the shower was great. The welcome tray was a nice addition too and very much appreciated. The WiFi was brilliant should you need it and the TV is a smart TV so you can get Prime/Netflix etc. I see by a previous review someone expressed concern regarding springs in the mattress, we did not experience this not at this or our last visit, the beds were lovely and comfortable and we all had a great nights sleep. We bumped into the neighbour one day, she's not at all intrusive but is very helpful and happy to have a chat...lovely lady. In summary, we had another great holiday and will definitely return.

Wow . Thank you very much for taking the time to write extensively about your stay at our cottage and I am pleased that you had another brilliant stay. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Thank you Property Owner

The cottage was very well equipped, very comfortable and in a beautiful village. It was very thoughtful to provide a gift of fresh milk and cookies for our arrival, this was very much appreciated. The area was in easy reach of many sites to see, we went to Ilam Country Park, which was a nice walk along the river with Visitor Centre and Tea Room. We went to the Stepping Stones at Dovedale, both just a short drive, alternatively they are walkable, depending upon your ability. We also went for a walk from the village up to Thorpe Cloud, this provides amazing views of the area. Tissington Estate and Bakewell are an easy drive and worth a visit too. Ashbourne has a Sainsburys, Lidl, M&S Food and other shops and is approximately 12 minutes drive away. We will certainly be booking this cottage again as it had everything we needed for a quiet relaxing break, good walking and plenty to venture out to if we wanted to. We feel we have yet more to discover in the area too.

About the location

ASHBOURNE

Matlock 15.7 miles; Bakewell 16.6 miles; Chatsworth 20.4 miles.

Lying at the southern end of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a perfect example of an English market town - market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th-century, the town was a fashionable social centre, and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don’t expect a bargain! For those who prefer more outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by and for thrill seekers Alton Towers with its exciting collection of rides and attractions is just a short drive away.
