"Ruth and David provided a warm welcome with a little welcome pack."
The cottage was ideal for us and our Weimaraner dog, who enjoyed the spacious field and the dog treats. The area offers fantastic walking opportunities, with quiet country lanes that are narrow but manageable. The cottage was impeccably clean and wonderfully peaceful. Despite the owners living on-site, they were not intrusive in any way.
So glad you and your lovely dog enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for your kind comments, it always pleases us when our guests appreciate our wonderful Yorkshire countryside. Kind Regards from Ruth, David & the Cats & Dogs Property Owner
"Lovely cottage lovely host, the cottage is well equipped, the bed was so comfortable."
The host was very welcoming. There are lots of walks and some lovely places nearby. We had a welcome pack this was very much appreciated, we took our dog Rocky and there was even treats for him. We hope to return later in the year. Ideal cottage for two guests and a dog.
Thank you for your kind comments, so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and the surrounding area . Kind regards David & Ruth Property Owner

"Quaint small property ideal for two plus dog."
Excellent location, gorgeous views and pet friendly. Owners very helpful and welcome pack very much appreciated. Popping to a great local pub (The Alma) for excellent beer and food is 300 metres, and the walks around are spectacular (especially the Calderdale Way).
Thank you for your kind comments. Always happy when our guests have enjoyed their stay with us. Best regards from Ruth & David Property Owner

The postcode on Sykes website is correct and sends you down Goughs lane to Goughs farm Please amend Lovely quiet place to stay with plenty of fresh air
Thank you for your comments. Regarding the directions, you are correct about the postcode, unfortunately there are three lanes all on the same postcode. I always try to point this out to our guests and normally we have no problems. Sorry if this caused you a minor inconvenience Property Owner
"Converted barn makes a delightful and rustic base to explore Calderdale and beyond."
On the compact side, with a bijou shower room and low beams upstairs. Wonderful walks from the doorstep and good bus and train services in easy reach. Expect steep and twisty lanes, and a super pub five minutes walk away.
Glad you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for the comments. Property Owner
"Cottage very comfortable, all the extras the owner supplied was lovely and unexpected,"
Thank you for your kind comments. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you sometime in the future Ruth & David Property Owner
"The owners were both friendly and helpful."
Living on site they are available to sort any problems should they arise and to answer any questions. We chose the property because we wanted to explore an area of the UK we didn't know well and the owners provided us with great recommendations of places to visit The property was sweet, cosy and comfy. We had everything we needed for a lovely restful break and the little touches like: tea and coffee, coffee pods, eggs, croissants provided for our first breakfast were greatly appreciated. We will definitely recommend it to friends and family
Thank you for your kind comments. We are glad you had such a good time Regards Ruth & David Property Owner
"Better than expected really."
I wanted high up, remote but not isolated and this ticked all the boxes. Had not expected to find such a pretty location with such beautiful sunrises, misty mornings and night skies. There's a whole hidden world up by Cottonstones and Millbank. The pub is even nearer than you would expect. The Mistle had everything I needed and was spotless, cosy and well-equipped. We visited in October and the weather was sunny and mild all week. It's a great location from which to explore West Yorks and Calderdale in all seasons. Excellent hosts, will return. Thankyou! For us, it was absolutely perfect and excellent value for money.
Thanks Joanne for your comments. It always pleases us to know that our guests have enjoyed their stay. Look forward to seeing you in the future and please bring the weather with you again...... Best regards from Ruth, David and the animals. Property Owner
"Cottage is small but perfect."
Is very comfortable and clean and had everything you need. Perfect hosts in a stunning location.
Thanks for your kind comments and glad you had a good stay. Kind Regards Ruth & David ( and the dogs) Property Owner
"This is a lovely conversation into a very petit but comfortable holiday let."
It has everything you need, my only comment would be tall or larger people may find the stairs and the bathroom difficult to navigate. The cottage has lovely views from the front and any dog owners will find the field opposite wonderful to exercise dogs. Our lad loved it! The area has some great walks and lots of attractive villages and towns to visit. For evening meals there are 2 x pubs close by, The Alma is 5 minutes and The Beehive around 20 minutes walk. Would I return, No, but that's only because I like to go to different places. I have recommended to a friend and hopefully they will try it.
"This little jewel of a cottage was perfect for our needs."
It was beautifully accessorised and everything we needed was provided. The bed is possibly the most comfortable we have experienced in decades of holidays. Upstairs is light, bright and airy, and downstairs comfortable and cosy in the eves whilst also providing a welcome cool alternative to the sunshine outside sitting out on the patio (yes, we did actually get some hot weather!!
"Lovely week stay at the cottage with planty of walks on the doorstep."
"We had very enjoyable stay at the cottage, our hosts were very welcoming after our horrendous journey due to four accidents blocking our route and ending with a snow shower."
Had a lovely welcome pack awaiting our arrival. Bed was so comfy, better than ours at home. Roads to and from cottage very narrow, but looked a great bus service which we met on every journey. Would recommend cottage as good place to stay for touring the area.
"It was small and compact, ideal for couples with one dog and won't a base for touring and walking in that area of Yorkshire."
Would definitely go back in warmer weather. The owners were very nice and friendly.

Lovely little cute cottage, very clean and bed was soooo comfy, lovely couple, and lovely pub 5 minute walk away with great food, cannot fault the place, beautiful views x
"Good for a relaxing few days."
"Comfortable and cosy cottage suitable for a couple."
Everything you needed, including a few nice extras. Friendly owners without being intrusive.
"Nice location and helpful owner."
A good welcome pack was left and the host met us and gave some tips on how to use things. Everything was very clean and nicely laid out other than the bathroom. We found the shower and sink to be too cramped and awkward to use although it all worked and good hot shower once you were in it., only useable if you are of a slim build. Annoying shelf over the sink as well. I know it’s difficult with space but this let it down a bit. Location is good for walking and a nice pub nearby.
"A wonderfully quaint and cozy retreat that was everything that we needed for a short break."
Ruth and David were lovely hosts; attentive but by no means intrusive. If we wanted their help or advice they were right next door but otherwise we were left to our own devices. The little former cow shed was immaculately clean with fresh pastries, milk, jam, eggs, butter and flowers already placed for us to enjoy. The nearest pub is just 10 minutes walk at a slow pace away and the local village has a great selection of essential shops and takeaways. Would definitely recommend. It’s worth noting that you have neighbours attached on both sides and so if you want to go somewhere and make noise, this isn’t the place for you!
"We had a lovely time at The Mistle, unfortunately the weather wasn’t on our side but did not stop us from exploring."
Both David & Ruth we’re very friendly and was happy to answer any questions we had even suggesting places to go near by to visit. Would definitely recommend and will be back to visit again some time in the future.
"The Mistle was beautiful."
Just perfect for a few days away. Lots of little extras made it feel extra special. The owners were very helpful but not intrusive. The local pub/restaurant was only 5 mins walk down the lane and was a lovely place to spend an evening.
"Cottage is small but perfectly formed and is in a great location/base for traveling around the area Wonderful friendly owners who are really helpful and work hard to ensure that their visitors have a good stay."
The welcome pack and fresh flowers in arrival are wonderful
"A very cosy retreat."
Very good welcome pack with lots of extra goodies.owner was most welcoming.
"A warm welcome was provided on arrival by the owners."
Very useful advice was given about walking trails in the area. The cottage provided a very comfortable stay, and the welcome pack was such a nice touch. Lots of leaflets and ideas were provided inside the cottage. The bed was so comfortable! The cottage was tastefully decorated with some very nice touches to remind you were in Yorkshire! The Alma Inn nearby , with its superb food, provided ample opportunities for breakfast and meals during the day. This is a great location for visiting local attractions, including The Bronte Parsonage. The Old Bridge Inn in Ripponden provided a great starting point for walks along the River Ryburn...and provided good food at the end of the walks.
"David and Ruth gave a very friendly warm welcome."
The cottage was lovely and in a quiet peaceful location. The bed was really comfy and we had great night's sleep. The welcome extras were a nice surprise. We will definitely book here again if we return to that area and will recommend it to friends and family.
"Everything was straight forward and easy to book on line and info about how to get there."
Lovely cottage and the owners were very helpful and made you feel welcome with little touches for your arrival.
"Relaxing weekend in a country setting."
Just what we needed.
"Would highly recommend The Mistle Carr Farm."
The cottage is in a beautiful location, the owners gave us a lovely welcome and we very much enjoyed the welcome pack of milk, croissants, tea and coffee amongst other bits in the cottage which is not something you get in every cottage. The cottage was everything we wanted for our weekend away - walks on the door steps and a really nice pub just around the corner. The accommodation was clean, bright and comfy. Would stay again.
"We was made to feel so welcome at a lovely relaxing cottage and totally recharged our batteries with some chilled out time and plenty of walks with our dog."
"Cottage was lovely, so were the owners, area We stayed in beautiful, would always recommend Sykes to family and friends."
"A great little cottage."
There was a welcome pack of groceries, jam, marmalade, milk, rice, muesli, pasta, eggs, biscuits, water, juice etc. This was a nice surprise. Very dog friendly with some dog treats. Overall I give it 10 out of 10.
Excellent welcome pack which was unexpected. Very clean, warm & comfortable and dog friendly It would be helpful if the name of the cottage was at the end of the drive.
"The owners , Ruth and David, were wonderfully welcoming and helpful - answering all of our questions on where to walk and eat."
The local pub around the corner serves delicious food and is very dog friendly! The Mistle Carr Barn was comfortable and perfectly located for our walks in and around Hebden Bridge and Haworth and Ripponden. The view just outside the front door is special too. I couldn't recommend this place more highly. We will definitely be back.
"Simple and easy to book, all information was available well in advance of arriving."
The cottage was as described, in a lovely quiet location that provided a good base for exploring the local area.
"Lovely little cottage in a picturesque a setting."
The owners were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. All in all we had a nice relaxing stay.
lots to see nearby. eg. Hebden Bridge and Emmerdales original Woolpack. 2 pubs. 1 very close other within half hour plus depending on walking speed' Buses outside door with an hourly service to Halifax and region, not used by us but nice to know it's available. Everybody we met extremely friendly and more importantly dog friendly (pubs included). All in all a very pleasant relaxed break even though the weather was slightly erratic.

About the location
Sowerby Bridge 3 miles; Hebden Bridge 8 miles.
The Calderdale village of Ripponden is set in the rural Pennine landscape, three miles from Sowerby Bridge, in the Ryburn Valley. The village is made up of traditional stone-built cottages, and a small high street with shops, cafes, an award-winning restaurant, takeaways, several excellent pubs serving food and real ale, and a local supermarket, with the River Ryburn flowing gently through the centre. Located at the heart of the Industrial Revolution, pretty old weaving villages are found in the surrounding hills. The area is also of archaeological note for its Roman road, Neolithic and Bronze Age remains. Upon Rishworth Moor, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and home to many rare animals, can be found the Cat Stones, a series of ancient round barrow burial sites. Ripponden village is also noted for the annual Rushbearing Festival each Autumn, featuring dance troupes including Morris Dancers from all over the country. Nearby is Hebden Bridge, a diverse, bohemian town home to restaurants, bars, bistros, markets, an independent cinema, art galleries, and the Rochdale Canal. A scenic car ride over the moors takes you to the Parsonage Museum which commemorates the famous Bronte family. A short drive in the opposite direction takes you to the heart of ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ country. Numerous listed buildings and National Trust properties are close by. The Haworth area is also a must for steam railway enthusiasts who will enjoy the thriving Worth Valley Railway.
