  • "Fantastic location and both owner & Sykes Cottages were extremely helpful."

We would highly recommend both the property and supplier to friends & family.

  • "On arrival there were many leaves outside of the front door making it very slippery."

Inside the cottage it was very nice but let down by lack of cleanliness. We had to wash out the fridge and numerous cooking utensils before we could use them. There was also a lot of dust and cobwebs around the various rooms which was a shame as otherwise it was a good stay. It's well positioned for walking and local facilities. Better parking notes could have been easier, when arriving during the dark winter months. arriving in the dark during winter months.

  • "We had a lovely time in Meadow View it was the perfect base for visiting Alton Towers and with an Aldi only minutes away for stocking up on snacks and treats it was great."

Everything was in the cottage that was needed and it was comfortable and cosy,

  • "Overall the stay was great."

Parking is understandable for a Peak District village. Shame the leave time was 09:00 on Sunday as it was preying on our mind the night before and had to get things packed in order to be ready to leave. Should consider 10:00 leave time. Otherwise thanks for the stay.

  • "What a lovely deceivingly spacious property."

Very warm and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. Unfortunately I had to clean the fridge before I could use it as it had clearly been missed, there was hardened melted butter in the egg holder which must have dripped onto the shelves. Nothing major but inconvenient when arriving at 4pm and eager to unpack and start enjoying our break. The twin bedroom also had a water bottle and fake tan packet underneath one of the beds. The TV looses signal each time a large vehicle passes which is quite frequently, a little annoying. These really are minor and didn’t effect how much we enjoyed staying at meadow view but worth a mention to the owners as I myself would want to be informed. Meadow View has a fresh new feel to it with a very cosy sitting room. I would personally suggest a blind in the kitchen and a door curtain and a few more pegs to hang coats (maybe on the inside of the door to the under the stairs cupboard). There are lots of helpful notes scattered around, maybe one ‘welcome pack’ would be better. I was unsure what to do about bed linen on the last day so did not strip the beds, to be honest with a 9am checkout I don’t think I would have had time to strip all of the beds too. My son loved the board games and left a five star message on the cow chalk board in the lounge. I would definitely recommend Meadow View and use the property again if I was looking for accommodation in that area. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Thank you so much. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay and we’d love to have you back. Property Owner

Tucked away in the idyllic village of Mayfield near Ashbourne, Staffordshire, is this fantastic three-bedroom house, Meadow View.

Named after the charming views on offer from the property and making up half of the former village pub, Meadow View is a superb dwelling for a group or family of six.

Look forward to cooking up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen/diner, ready to savour at the dining table for six, or alfresco out in the rear enclosed garden as you soak up the last of the day's sun.

After dinner, retreat to the light and airy sitting room, where you can curl up on the plush seating and select your favourite series from the TV, as the electric fire gently warms the space.

Continue upstairs to the first floor to find a well-appointed bathroom where you can freshen up with a soak or rinse after a day of exploring, along with two beautifully decorated bedrooms, a king-size with TV and a twin with views of the meadows.

The second floor hosts the final bedroom, a spacious double with Velux windows, affording lovely views and natural light.

Explore the village, where you can treat your loved ones to a well-deserved meal at the Royal Oak Inn, followed by a leisurely stroll along the River Dove.

For a wider selection of amenities, head to Ashbourne, where you can dine at The Bridge, stock up on essentials at the convenience stores, picnic in Ashbourne Park, or time your visit right to attend the annual Shrovetide football match which takes place on Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday.

For great days out take a trip to Alton Towers or Dovedale with lots for the family to enjoy.

From here you can easily access the stunning surroundings of the Peak District National Park, with a plethora of scenic walking and cycling trails, caves to explore, and the historic sites of Throwley Old Hall and Pilsbury Castle.

Venture further to Matlock, home to the Heights of Abraham, Hall Leys Park and the Peak Rail, along with neighbouring Matlock Bath where you will find Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Peak District Museum.

About the location

ASHBOURNE

Matlock 15.7 miles; Bakewell 16.6 miles; Chatsworth 20.4 miles.

Lying at the southern end of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a perfect example of an English market town - market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th-century, the town was a fashionable social centre, and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don’t expect a bargain! For those who prefer more outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by and for thrill seekers Alton Towers with its exciting collecting of rides and attractions is just a short drive away.
