  • "There was one shower for 9 people."

The remaining bathrooms were baths with hand held shower heads. The sofa in main living room has collapsed. The number on the contact details is for a previous employee. Kitchen has lots of stuff but two pots and a mixture of plates most of which don’t fit in the dishwasher as they are serving dishes. The hot water system was not adequate for number of beds

  • "This home was cold and had no logs for the log burners."

Also we asked for all beds to be made up and we had to make up the bed in one of the rooms. There was not enough hot water for everyone to have a shower. I would not recommend this home to anyone to stay. It felt cold and musty in the living room. One of the toilets was broken and there was a note about this in the book, this is so bad, instead of leaving a note just fix the toilet!

  • "Stayed here with a group of friends for the weekend."

Such an amazing place, with all the amenities you could think of included. Clean and comfortable and decorated to a very high standard. The property owner was a lovely guy and always on hand to help out if needed. Will definitely be back again!

  • "Family of 7 just returned from a great week, we had fabulous weather so spent the majority of our time outside."

The property itself is lovely and is well equipped. Just outside Richmond which is a lovely town to visit. This property could be amazing however the cleanliness and general maintenance lets it’s down. The hot tub wasn’t clean, the decking needs replacing and the whole house could do with a thorough clean. We also feel that a property for 10 should have more than one walk in shower, a hand held shower over a bath isn’t ideal.

  • "Unfortunately very disappointing the cleanliness was a huge problem & there were a lack of towels."

The on sight owner apologised & admitted that the cleanliness issue had been raised before & the towels were possibly because it was Bank holiday weekend, we did receive the towels the following day. As for facilities-: the kitchen lacked saucepans, the dishwasher didn’t clean properly, there were no brooms, dustpans or working hoover to use. The fridge had not been emptied. In the garden the decking in places was going rotten & was in a poor state by the kitchen door. The grass had not been cut which made it hard to clear up dog mess. The hot tub filter was full of hair. The bedroom with the hot water & heating system in made it really hot & upon opening the fanlight windows dirt & debris fell into the bedroom. It appeared the heating needed to be on for the hot water to work. The master bedroom had tiles coming away from the wall & part of the shower frame was loose. The owner did address this while we were there. The shower also leaked to the downstairs hallway on occasion. Not all of the TV’s worked. In reality the star rating the bright & airy pictures on the listing didn’t match at all & it was disappointing & very expensive couple of days.

  • "Dere house is a wonderful place to stay."

However very very dirty. Myself and my my partner stayed in the smaller double bedroom on the top floor and there was a contact lens on the floor. I can confirm this was not ours as either of us use contacts. In the utility room next to the kitchen there was a cobweb that pretty much took over the full top half of a door frame. The kitchen was also very dusty and infested with cobwebs. In the larger downstairs bedroom there was some sweets behind the bed and some knickers in the drawer. We met the owner when we arrived and he was very polite and welcoming so I do not wish for this review to effect his business but it may express the urgency to employ better cleaners. The downstairs New York themed bedroom with black accessories had a window which did not have an accessible function to open. So if there was a fire how could the guests get out. The outside seating area including covered settee area was very dirty with lots of confetti from the previous guests left on seats. The hot tub was also very dirty. Outside garden area very dirty the table covered in stains and food from previous guests not pleasant to relax in. The decking floor was damaged as you leave the kitchen into the garden and it had been damaged for a long time you could tell by the material that was placed over the broken wood. The shower in the master bedroom on the top floor had a damaged glass frame which was dangerous to the person using the shower as it would wobble. Although it doesnt sound it we did have a wonderful stay and it was a beautiful building with lots of garden and greenery but the cleanliness was a huge letdown and some things were damaged which could lead to injury.

Huge rooms everywhere and very comfortable and relaxing- just what was needed for our busy lifestyle. Had a slight issue but Mark sorted it immediately and really is a lovely gentlemen. He was more than happy to help. Lovely town not far away and is pet friendly everywhere Lovely to see sheep and rabbits from the living room and from the hot tub.

  • "The barn was lovely and we really enjoyed our stay."

There were a few issues in the bathrooms. The knob of the bath tub was loose and the shower room in the main en-suite was not working properly. Outside in the garden the rails on the patio were loose. One of our party leaned on one of the rails which came off. Bare in mind we had a toddler running round. These are a few issues that could easily be put right.

Very clean and well equipped. The owner was friendly and on hand to greet us. By way of constructive feedback the steps in the corridors downstairs could do with illuminating. The corridors are dark and steps easy to miss. Other than that everything was great thank you

About the location

BROMPTON-ON-SWALE

Richmond 3 miles; Leyburn 12 miles; Reeth 14 miles; Barnard Castle 18 miles.

The village of Brompton-on-Swale is situated to the east of Richmond on the northern banks of the River Swale. Named in the Domesday Book the village name is believed to have been derived from “broom” (the Shrub) and “tun” an old English word meaning farmstead or village. Today the village is home to a traditional pub and village shop. There are pleasant walks to be enjoyed around the village and along the riverside. The nearby ancient market town of Richmond is three miles away with its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' which enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071. Today Richmond offers wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Brompton-on-Swale is located between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Yorkshire Moors National Park providing an ideal location for exploring this scenic area.

Please note: The water in the hot tub is fresh for every booking, therefore it can take up to 24 hours for the water to reach maximum temperature, particularly where there are back-to-back changeovers.
