  • "We had a fantastic week partly because of the weather."

The dated furnishings wont be to everyone’s taste but it is a charming and comfortable property. The location is spectacular and the house has a really well equipped kitchen. The hedge on the drive and on the steps down to the Jetty could do with cutting back.

It's a great house for a large family group.

  • "Everything was as we had expected and when we called the owner using the phone number we were given, she was very helpful."

The house was beautiful - full of character and equipped with everything we might possibly need. Beds were comfortable, everything was clean and the views amazing!

  • "We absolutely loved the property but have to point out that the house is very tired and in need of some TLC."

It no way spoilt our weekend which was fantastic - helped by the weather so we could enjoy the outdoor space. The views from every bedroom are absolutely stupendous. The house is so spacious and the kitchen brilliantly equipped. The master bedroom is something else.

  • "The house is in a stunning location, BUT it is very tired and needs a thorough spring clean, most of the furniture has not been moved and cleaned behind, resulting in dirt and cobwebs building up everywhere from the ceilings to the corners of the rooms, The two highchairs for the children were covered in black mould and dirty, Most of the mugs provided were chipped."

The bedding, beds and towels were comfortable and of good quality. We enjoyed our stay but were disappointed by the general lack of cleanliness.

  • "What a wonderful place."

We had an amazing time and will endeavour to return as often as possible. You described the property very accurately so it almost seems churlish to highlight any negatives, but, for the record; More bars of soap and more loo rolls doesn't seem too much to ask. One more ensuite or upstairs bathroom would be ideal but I'd settle for the soap and the loo rolls for now. Just slight and mild criticisms in an otherwise overwhelmingly positive experience. Thank you.

  • "We had a wonderful time."

As previously mentioned this beautiful house is in need of some tlc, however it did not spoil our time there. Comfy beds, warm and cosy, very well stocked kitchen. The two extra rooms attached to the kitchen were a godsend for storing food and drinks. All in all we would love to return. Julie

  • "This was a well stocked house with a really welcoming feel."

The house could do with a bit of TLC (it was a bit damp in places) but the heating worked really well and very quickly. In any case nothing could detract from the absolutely amazing views. We practically lived on the terrace with its breathtaking views of the Menai Straits. If you want a holiday with perfection and all mod cons, this place probably isn't for you but if (like us) you enjoy something that is a bit quirky and you like beautiful faded elegance then you will really love this place!

  • "Tan Y coed is a wonderful place - House is amazing so much to do and the view is amazing."

Everything was as described and loved the pool room and massive table in the well stocked kitchen - plenty of pots and pans, plates etc to do large family meals. Was so lovely to lay out on the sunbeds and soak up the sun - we had amazing weather for September for the full week. Beds were comfortable and everywhere was nice and clean. Would definitely recommend.

  • "We had an excellent stay at Tan Y Coed."

It could not have been more perfect for our needs as a group. The house was as described - very comfortable with outstanding views. A real home from home. For those looking for perfection and/or a luxury hotel, look elsewhere. This is a well used, charmingly old fashioned house whose walls I am sure could tell some amazing stories. The house is well stocked with all you could need. Both Menai Bridge and Beaumaris are within a 5 minute drive and have some lovely pubs and restaurants. All very low key and surprisingly excellent. As a party, we all agreed that we would happily come back! Thank you.

  • "Wow! What a fantastic old house."

Our entire family group from teenagers to a 75 year old loved it. The location and the views were stunning. The house is very well equipped with everything that you could possibly need. Perfect for relaxing or for being active and taking up all the opportunities that Anglesey has to offer.

  • "It was 5 star to us as a family- we have family history here and many fond memories."

However, there were quite a few ongoing maintenance issues- one shower not working, lightbulbs missing, remnants of previous holiday makers, only one tea towel (to name a few!).... Despite all of this, we appreciated that this house was a shabby chic, lived-in house- we could look past the issues and enjoyed the location of the property and the opportunity to spend time as a family.

  • "It is described as shabby chic and that is what it is."

There are one or two shabby bits and dusty corners, flaky paint and loose wallpaper, but on the whole it was great. Lots of comfy chairs and kitchen utensils. Shame that the kenwood mixer was broken and that quite a few of the cooking utensils and mugs needed a wash before we could use them.

  • "Damp, scruffy and smelly."

  • "This was a lovely very large property in a beautiful location , it had an efficient heating system and plentiful supply of hot water all essential to a large multigenerational family group."

However the kitchen should have been better equipped for a property catering to larger groups with more (and new) crockery and cutlery needed (although there was a plentiful supply of glasses, cooking pots and pans and serving dishes), better organised and less cluttered (every single kitchen drawer was full of useless bits and pieces including old creams, ointments and medication most unsuitable to be left in a property rented to families with young children) and was not terribly clean. Dining in the billiard room (as shown in pictures advertising the property) may be an option for a special occasion if caterers were used but was not really a functional option for everyday dining especially with the equipment provided. We were generally more than happy with the 'shabby chic' style of the property however nearly all of the seating in the large formal living room was uncomfortable with broken springs and webbing making it virtually unuseable. Overall we had a thoroughly enjoyable family christmas at Tan y Coed and the positives outweighed the negatives - however the negatives outlined above were significant although they could be very easily rectified and would improve the rental experience enormously.

  • "A brilliant place for a large family gathering."

Not immaculate, but everything needed for a brilliant weekend get-together. Pity the open fire in the large living room smoked so much that we were forced to entertain ourselves in the kitchen. We hope to return in the summer!

The property

Words cannot describe how amazing this holiday house is!

Standing above the Menai Strait, on Anglesey, half way between Menai Bridge and Beaumaris, it has stunning views with the dramatic backdrop of Snowdonia and its ever changing scenery.

At night time the twinkling lights of boats sitting on their moorings, floodlit Penrhyn castle and the moonlight on the mountains and sea is magical. The large welcoming hall and splendid staircase make a fitting entrance to this magnificent house.

The drawing room is just waiting to be filled with a gathering of family and friends.

Throw open the French windows and enjoy a drink on the terrace before dinner.

The views are stunning. Or relax in front of the log burning stove in the winter months.

Comfy chairs and sofas, a card table and a special scrabble table completes the picture. The billiard room doubles as a dining room.

If you put the top on the billiard table and gather the chairs together you have a formal dining room. The sitting room is ideal for children.

It has a TV with DVD, toy cupboard, crayoning table and plenty of books.

French windows open on to the terrace. The gorgeous kitchen has a large farmhouse table and chairs to seat everyone.

It is well equipped for cooking for large numbers with a Rangemaster cooker with two ovens and a six ring gas hob with griddle, magimix, hand blender, electric whisk, toasted sandwich maker and plenty of sensible sized saucepans and serving dishes.

There is a pantry with slate tops housing a fridge / freezer and microwave. The utility room has a washing machine, tumble drier, drinks fridge and door to the garden. There are two downstairs cloakrooms.

One with a loo and the other with a loo, wash hand basin and shower together with a collection of good life jackets - perfect for days out crabbing.

There is also a dressing up chest and a collection of children's toys. Upstairs there are six bedrooms and three bathrooms.

The master bedroom is just fabulous.

It is an enormous bedroom with a super king bed and amazing views, en-suite bathroom with loo, wash hand basin and bath with shower over.

Three further bedrooms all have wash hand basins.

One has twin beds and two have double beds.

There are two other rooms.

One with a double bed and one family room with three single beds. There are two bathrooms, both with a bath and shower.

One of them has a power shower and underfloor heating.

Outside the terrace runs the length of the house with garden furniture, table tennis and a barbecue.

There are steps down to the large landing stage and waters edge at high tide.

We advise that children should not go unaccompanied or without lifejackets. Please note there is a flat above Tan y Coed, which is permanently occupied.

They have their own entrance and have no access to the garden or beach. Tan y Coed is a glorious holiday house with a shabby chic charm and staggering sea views from every window.

This is just the house to enjoy gathering with friends and family to celebrate a special occasion.

The house has been in the same family for forty years and is comfortably furnished with children and family holidays in mind. Please note that dogs must be kept downstairs during your stay.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
