"We we completely overwhelmed when we arrived the property is amazing, so many interesting details, everything just works."
So much thought has gone into the renovation, not just the fun stuff like the lighting & the quirky artwork but the kitchen, wow, and the comfortable seating areas. The Capel is also perfectly situated to explore Wales. We both had the best time, thank you very much
"Amazing place to stay, everything you need is here, has the wow factor for a party."
loved it and would stay again.
"This accommodation really does have the WOW factor when you open the door."
Great location for exploring North Wales sights, will definitely return.
"This is an absolutely superb apartment."
The furniture and decor are first rate. It is located in a convenient location. The owner was great to deal with and really helpful. We look forward to returning.
"Although the stay was an experience we felt the ousting was inaccurate."
The listing stated a games room and parking for 3 cars. There was also no mention of two flights of stairs. Thankfully the ground floor flat was considerate and therefore we were able to our cars in driveway, there was no mention of shared parking. There was also a mention of pull out bed which we couldn’t find, however we had packed a camping bed for toddler. Also garden with summerhouse was listed and this was not accessible as large Boulder was placed at back of gate entrance. Heating was on constantly and there was very little ventilation.
Thank you for your feedback. There is parking for two cars which is advertised on the website. We have amended the listing to show two flights of stairs. We will address your comments about the Summerhouse and the boulder being placed at the back gate entrance. Heating can be adjusted, had we been made aware we could have rectified this. We do hope you had an enjoyable stay. Kind regards Property Owner
"The apartment is beautiful."
A lovely refurbishment. We loved the space (with 3 teenagers) the location for exploring north wales. The quality of the beds, pillows was high therefore good sleep! We were concerned prior to the holiday we’d hear the guests in the downstairs apartment but we never heard a sound. Downsides were… only 1 toilet. Bathroom was beautiful and great shower but with only 1 toilet and 6 of us it was difficult at times. We knew this prior to the holiday but we’re used to more. The cooker also has no temperature markings so made life slightly difficult. We feel if you wanted to, you could easily convert the storage cupboard next to the bathroom to a toilet and basin as the plumbing is already there. It would be much appreciated!! But for comfort and glamour we loved it
"A fabulous, characterful, spacious and comfortable property ideally located to explore Snowdonia and to relax in."
Customer service from Sykes was excellent.
"Amazing apartment and great base location to see the sights - location wise it was as it said on the label."
"Fabulous place to stay!"
Plenty of space to relax. Beautiful chapel conversion with original features. We hope to return.
"Beautiful place lots of space to spread out but plenty of cosy places to snuggle up and read or watch a film, easy access to local shops and plenty to do around the area."
"The only downside is that it does require another shower or en-suite for 6 persons"
"We had the most amazing stay."
The cottage was very cosy yet spacious and we will definitely be coming back again soon.
"Great central location with easy access to various attractions in North Wales."
The scenery is outstanding and there is so much to see and do in this part of the country. Capel Mwar is faultless and the owner Dez is very helpful. You will not be disappointed with a holiday here.
"Originally booked for April but due to full lockdown we were not able to go and had to move the break to September."
Although Sykes removed the fee to change the dates we had to pay the difference for dates and some dates it was more than a few hundred pounds different and should have been the same price. The cottage however is beautiful and has been tastefully converted from a Chapel to a holiday home. There was ample parking and equipment in the property. The owner Dez is very friendly. Location is great for exploring Snowdonia and you can the mountain range from the big Chapel windows. A convenience store is just across the road and a fish and chip shop literally a 2 minute walk around the corner.
"Amazing breathtaking property"
"We loved the top floor apartment at Capel Mawr, it was much more spacious than the photos suggested and felt like a real treat."
Most of the apartment was beautifully furnished and the bathroom had a luxurious roll top bath that we all enjoyed. Bedrooms were large and the beds were all comfy - as were the plentiful large sofas in the lounge area. A second toilet would have been super useful but wasn't a deal breaker. Notes on how to use the oven would be ideal - particularly since all of the markings have rubbed off so we were having to make guesses as to which knob to use and where we thought the right temperature would be. Overall, we had a really pleasant stay - thank you.
"This home totally has the wow factor."
The photos don’t do it justice. Also a lot bigger than we were expecting, we got our steps in just walking around! Great views of the mountains through the windows too. Two good shops, a deli/butcher, a chippy and a pub with exceptional food too. Am already recommending this property!
"We loved our stay at Capel Mawr."
It’s beautiful, spacious, clean and very well equipped. There’s so much to do in the local area which is stunning. The owner was very helpful and recommended some places for us to visit which were fabulous. Can’t wait to return.
"Amazing place, exactly like the pictures and had more than everything we needed, it was truly stunning and we will definitely be returning."
Only thing was that we weren't aware that the building was actually 2 apartments and there was a party of 11 staying in the apartment below us which when we found out was a bit of a concern. However, we didn't hear any noise at all from them so it wasn't an issue at all!
"We had the best time in a beautiful holiday let, the converted chapel was stunning."
The only minor thing is that it only has one bathroom and sleeps 6 people, but this will not stop us from visiting again. We are planning another visit as soon as we can.
"This place is a great place to stay and is so close to many attractions and places to visit."
It is extremely comfortable and has so many nooks and crannies to sit and enjoy. It was immaculately clean upon Which goes a long way to the enjoyment of this apartment. Have to say the acoustics are great if you fancy singing whilst staying. The village has a Co-op, Spar, fish and chip shop and a hair and beauty salon. It does not have washing facilities so may be worth considering a trip to the laundrette in Caernarfon. However, be prepared for a climb of 24 steps up to the apartment on arrival and every time you go out. This makes it unsuitable for the elderly (unless fit) and the infirm.
"Although we thoroughly enjoyed staying here, we thought the 5* rating was a little high, more like a 4*."
It needed a second toilet/bathroom and possibly a washing machine, but otherwise a nice place to stay.
"Capel Mawr was amazing place, so spacious (Huge) and wonderfully decorated."
They have really made the most of the former chapel. The only minor negative was the lack of laundry facilities - but not a major problem. Llanrug is a good location to explore the area or with two shops (Coop and Spar) a butchers, deli and a chip all within 1min of the chapel just hole up and relax...
"Really simple booking process, loved the Sykes app - super easy to use We had an incredible stay at the Capel Mawr, beautiful property with lovely surroundings."
The property had everything we could possibly need and the features and decor of the house were perfect, we will definitely be back!
"Great location and great views, you can even see the Steam Trains goint up Snowdon through Binocluars :)"
"The property we stayed in was outstanding."
..it was a pleasure to stay in such a beautiful chapel conversion. the owner was welcoming and knowledgable of the area, being close by if we needed information or support. the location: although in a small village, had all amenities close by: a butchers, fish and chip shop, co-op and spa...the nearest pub is about an 8 minute walk away and there is an Indian restaurant 1.7 miles away...good location for exploring North Wales including Snowdonia...although we did not get to ride the train we learned it was best to book in advance.
"A lovely place to stay, only negative was no washer, Everything else was fine, and we enjoyed our Holiday."
"Great place, I would suggest a note showing oven settings and more than 1 towel per person per week"
"A really amazing property, highly recommended!"
"This was a fantastic place to stay with a serious WOW factor when you went through the door."
Everything was immaculate upon arrival and being self catering you are always hoping that the kitchen will have all the appliances you need - it did not disappoint. Its such a beautiful light and spacious place (even though there were 6 adults), we had ample room in the huge living area. Cannot recommend this place highly enough if you are looking for unique accommodation just a 10min drive from Snowdon and within easy access of all the main attractions in North Wales. The owner was extremely helpful and was kind enough to allow an extension on our check out time, as it was a Sunday. Thanks again Dez - we shall return!
"An hour after we arrived we experienced water coming through the kitchen ceiling (it was raining) and called the owner to report the situation."
He answered and said that he would be round the next morning to take a look. He did not arrive the next morning and we never received a call or text to say he was not coming. In fact he did not come round or contact us all week. We therefore had a kitchen bowl and towel on the kitchen floor all week collecting the water leak from the roof each time it rained. The cleanliness of the kitchen was disappointing. The dishwasher stank and we refused to use it on that basis. There was no spare dishwasher salt that we could use to try to rectify the problem. The cooker and oven had no labelling (temperature settings etc) which effectively rendered it useless. The crockery and cutlery was unclean and not of a standard we would have expected in a rental property so we washed items that we wanted to use. Some of the kitchen cupboards were full of junk. Island counter surface was dirty and having lent against it on the first morning had to change a jumper. All handles felt sticky and dirty to touch. Several lamps needed new bulbs which we did find and change. The toilet handle drips every time you flush it. The toilet brush was shocking. On our return home we sent the owner a photograph of the roof identifying a missing roof slate which was probably the cause of the leak. We also expressed our disappointment that he had not come round or had the courtesy to contact us to which he responded "Didn't want to disturb you as you seemed to want to keep yourself to yourself" We don't know how he came to this decision as we had contacted him immediately that the problem arose when we arrived. Overall our experience was a lot lower than we had expected. If asked if we would stay here again it would be a no but on a positive note the apartment was a great space but rough around the edges. We will choose yes to publishing our feedback. However it would be your decision to maybe see this property for yourself and make your decision as to what is acceptable for your website reputation.
"Smashing pad, unique place to stay with all you need to enjoy a pleasant stay in the heart of North Wales."
A great location for Snowdonia and all surrounding areas for North Wales. Proprietors are helpful and available to attend to all needs. The Prosecco welcome gift was a lovely start to our hols. Thanks!
"There are quite a few stairs up to the accommodation, but the climb is well worth it."
Sometimes the room as shown on the website is slightly bigger than you find in reality. Not so with Capel Mawr. The main room is simply stunning, and the fittings and parts from the old Chapel which have been incorporated in the design are amazing. The village of Llanrug is very handy being so close to Caernarfon one way and Llanberis the other. One little niggle. On the oven temperature dial, the numbers have disappeared, which made cooking a little bit hit and miss.
"The most amazing venue with wow factor."
Needs another loo or en suite in the dressing room
"We stayed at Chapel Mawr over the Christmas period."
We had a fantastic stay in this beautiful apartment. On entrance to the property we found the place quite impressive and oozing with tons of character in so many ways. so if your looking for somewhere a bit different to stay then this is certainly worth a visit. We found the open living space extremely spacious and just perfect for enjoying some good quality family time. A perfect place for enjoying those long dark evenings in for this time of year. It is also a great location for travelling and exploring the area with excellent facilities in the local village itself. Thanks again Dez for a lovely stay, be sure to come back one day for a second visit! The Morgan Family
"Beautiful and traditional property."
Fantastic open living space with decent sized bedrooms. I would definitely recommend Capel Mawr to anybody but particularly to those who want to get away and share some good times with family and friends.
"This break was a week before Xmas so had typical December weather & caught the edge of a storm front on the Saturday which was very wet & windy."
The building was fabulous, spacious & comfortable, we were very sad to leave it. The area of North Wales is a place we've visited before & would happily do so again.
"Owner very welcoming and about over the week if any problem would have arisen."
Its was our second stay in Capel Mawr and would highly recommend staying in this very quirky apartment.
"We thought the place was amazing."
We found the beds a problem as the main bedroom was way to hard and the second bedroom way too soft so I ended up sleeping in a single bed.not the best solution on our 40th wedding anniversary holiday. Lucky for us in a way we were only 2 on the holiday as my in-laws had to cancel at the last moment due to ill health. We also thought if it was full it does only have one toilet.
"A really lovely place."
Ideal for a family get together. Comfortable and beautifully furnished. The only negative was that we could have done with an extra bathroom. However everything else perfect.
"An absolutely amazing home."
Lots of space, beautifully decorated and really well located for snowdon and other activities. Would highly recommend staying here and be ready for that initial wow factor.
"What a lovely place to stay - really spacious and very well decorated."
Would happily stay there again,.
"A stunning building with an absolutely fabulous interior."
Comfortable spotless spacious & luxurious. A beautiful part of North Wales close to Snowdonia. Dez the owner is very friendly & helpful if needed. The only thing that might be a negative to those with knee/hip problems etc is the 2 flights of stairs once you enter the front door. Once up it’s all on one floor as stated. We will definitely stay again. Thanks Dez.
"Amazing time away."
We have been twice now and each time it has been so relaxing and lovely. This time we were practically snowed in and it couldn't have been more perfect. Can't wait to book again!
"The. photos do a brilliant job of invoking the excitement but once you get there, The Wow Factor is Real!"
"Excellent location, wonderful indulgent property for that special occasion and big enough for a family event."
"Lovely apartment with loads of character."
Everything you need was there in terms of inside the apartment. There is no garden only a graveled driveway, this should be removed from the listing. The summerhouse was unusable as it was being used as a storeroom. All mattresses need replacing in my opinion as they are the wrong size for the beds or uncomfortable. The local area and amenities is outstanding, with excellent views that you never tire from. All in all a great holiday. We would return to this area without hesitation.
The chapel is gorgeous with so many interesting features. Had a brilliant holiday and would recommend Capel Mawr to all. So many places to visit within short driving distances. Will definitely be going back.
"We had an idea Capel Mawr was very spacious, and it exceeded our expectations."
In a word it was Unique. It was very comfortable and relaxing, and there was a nice pub just down the road. Will definitely be back!
"This rental is a true gem."
A remarkable property, situated close to the mountains and the sea, in the unremarkable village of Llanrug. It is a fabulous 1st floor apartment in a converted chapel. On entering we all experienced the wow factor. The pictures don't do it justice. It is quirky and at the same time luxurious. A great property for a group special occasion with loads of space and high end ,original furnishings and homely touches. This property is a 5 star gem . We would highly recommend it and will definitely be back.

Capel Mawr is an impressive and stunning apartment forming part of a converted chapel in the centre of the village of Llanrug, which is situated in the foothills of the Snowdonia Mountain Range, only three miles from Llanberis.
This stunning property is perfect if you’re looking for something a little bit different, somewhere to celebrate that special birthday or anniversary perhaps?
Or just a great base to get together with friends and family to discover and experience the beautiful Snowdonia National Park, stunning mountains and scenery and the superb coastlines this area has to offer.
This magnificent property has an elegant ground floor entrance with two large glazed double doors opening into the entrance vestibule which immediately gives you the feeling of space.
The two original staircases sweeping to the left and right, one of which leads up to the magnificent first floor apartment, and is just a taster of what’s to come!
Upstairs the unique circular open plan living area is immense and naturally divided into three areas, a wonderful sitting area, kitchen area and a dining area on a mezzanine platform, this is a wonderful space for socialising.
Capel Mawr has been lovingly restored by its current owner, and has been a true labour of love with so many original features and attributes skilfully restored with other parts of the chapel being adapted to form integral parts of the property.
You are immediately drawn to the beautiful ceiling painted in pastel shades to emphasise the ornate coved ceiling with central roses and cornices, all enhanced with spot lighting.
The sitting area is so relaxing and comfortable, perfect for chilling out after a long day walking on the mountains.
The dining area, on a raised exposed timber mezzanine provides the perfect place for a more formal dining experience and is dominated by a massive circular window, and to the left and right hand side of the dining area a small flight of stairs lead down to a lower, more discreet seating area providing a nice little hideaway for you to enjoy some quiet time to reflect.
The kitchen area is very much in keeping with the original building where further parts of the chapel have been utilised to create a bespoke kitchen.
Everything you could possibly need is catered for and the large pitch pine island and breakfast bar with stools provides a less formal place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast or late supper over a bottle of wine and reminisce over the day’s adventures.
Three spacious bedrooms, two double rooms and a twin room, plus the family bathroom all radiate off the living accommodation.
Each bedroom is tastefully furnished and individually styled and all feature the original arched windows.
The main bedroom benefits from having a feature sink in a carved ornate surround and a double door leads through to a dressing room with full length wardrobes and a sofa bed, lending a little more flexibility to the sleeping arrangements and accommodation.
The bathroom is beautifully appointed with a modern roll-top bath on clawed feet, perfect for a long relaxing soak after a long day out walking; nothing like it to ease away those aches, there is a separate shower cubicle and washbasin inset into the original chapel pulpit.
Outside there is a crushed gravel area providing parking for 3 cars and a raised decked seating area and summerhouse, ideal for sitting out after a busy day and relaxing with a glass of something chilled.
Just a short stroll from this apartment are two village pubs, both serve meals and there are walks in abundance.
Llanberis is just three miles away and offers an array of shops, Electric Mountain which is well worth a visit, plus there are numerous watersports on the lake, as well as it being one of the main starting points for hiking up to the summit of Snowdon.
Fancy something a little less strenuous then take the train instead, or jump on the narrow gauge steam railway that runs the length of Llyn Padarn and enjoy a five-mile return trip taking in some wonderful scenery on the way.
Slightly further afield, why not visit the town of Caernarfon with its historic and majestic castle and the Isle of Anglesey is just waiting to be discovered?
Whatever you fancy doing there is something for everyone and Capel Mawr provides a wonderful base from which to explore from and is a very special place to spend some quality time with friends and family.
This beautiful property will have you wanting to return time and time again.
