  • "Great week at Sea Otter cottage, with everything we needed for our stay there."

Wouldn’t change a thing in the spacious immaculate cottage! Didn’t see the otters but spent a lot of evenings down on the shoreline. Our Sea Labrador growled angrily a few times, at the waters edge, at what turned out to be seals coming to see what we were doing in their loch. Waking to snow on the peaks across the bay was a real treat and the evening orange and pink skies making the bracken look on fire I would never tire of. Great location with everything you need close by making it an ideal base to our days out. Would highly recommend.

The cottage was really welcoming and included everything you could possibly need - it really felt like you were coming back home after a busy day exploring. The cottage is on the main road (A838) but set well back and outside of peak times there is very little traffic. The old railway line between Oban and Ballachulish runs parallel to the road and gives the opportunity for walks with spectacular views right from the front door. In all, a wonderful relaxing holiday away from it all. We have already decided we will be back.

In the cupboard next to the kitchen the airer was full of towels so it meant we had to take the towels off and fold them so that we could use the airer. We left the folded towels on top of the washing machine. There really wasn't anwyhere that you could air clothing as there was no tumble dryer. In view of the weather in Scotland an airer would be extremely handy. In total we were away from home for a month so we needed to wash, dry clothing and air. The property was reasdonably well appointed comfortable beds ok linen, towels had seen better days. The reception on the television was not good unless you used Raku. We contacted the owner who was helpful via text. Sea View is not a place to stay if you want to use anything other than RAku.

Hi Ken In the kitchen there is a tumble dryer which I bought new last year and there is also an airing pulley. The tumble dryer is next to the oven. Unfortunately TV reception in the Highlands is often not good if you want a remote location. Roku, which accesses many channels via the Internet, is the only option. It is not great for live TV but has many options for Internet TV. Glad you enjoyed the views and other facilities at the cottage. Property Owner

Only one restaurant/pub in walking distance. This has a great terrace and good food. Good pubs in Ballachulish/ Glencoe a couple of miles up the road. Cottage clean and tidy with well equipped kitchen. Note that at night it is pitch black outside so a torch is a must. Only negatives are lack of free view on tv and iplayer can be slow. Gardens not dog secure since front garden has no gate. Rear garden needs to be opened up further and fenced. We are quite used to walking at night so thought we would have an evening meal at the Holly Tree hotel. The location is stunning and we had some spectacular sunsets over the Bay in front of the house. We were also lucky enough to see the Aurora one night. The cottage served as a good place for exploring the west coast. The kitchen was very well equipped and the cottage itself was surprisingly spacious. The views from the bedroom windows were breathtaking. We would definitely stay here again and were very happy with the property and the location, the only criticism I could make is that I found the beds to be rather hard and not very comfortable.

Hi Katie. Glad you enjoyed. It is a very special location. Apologies if you found the beds a bit hard. They are hotel quality medium hardness. Unfortunately guests 2 weeks ago found them too soft for them. Hard to get a balance that is good for everyone. Luckily the cottage was available and after booking, the owner Cherry contacted us to offer an extra 2 nights for free. We gratefully accepted. Sadly the weather wasn't on our side for the entire holiday as it rained everyday, but it gave us a chance to snuggle in front of the fire while looking at the incredible scenery outside and the kitchen was brilliantly equipped to cook some lovely meals. So well equipped for self catering and holidaying in, that it was a joy to cook there and we only ate out once. The place had been immaculately cleaned by the housekeeper. Cherry (owner) was in contact beforehand with some good directions, and we found wine, shortbread and chocolates waiting for us. The beds are very comfortable, but a chair in the bedrooms would be nice, even if only to sit and gaze at the sunsets (and sea otters if they deem to make an appearance) and possibly a mirror in each room? Thank you Cherry for a week to remember, we both miss it.

Had a courtesy call from Cherry a few days before and a text reminder of the key code. First impressions of the cottage were wonderful. Clean and cosy, logs stocked by the fire and a gorgeous welcome basket with shortbread, wine and jams. The location of the cottage is lovely although the road out front is noisy. 15 minutes to Glencoe with brilliant access to the Highlands on the A82. Everything felt clean and new in the cottage. We really enjoyed doing a jigsaw and reading the Rough guide to Scotland book. Shower was clean but towels were still very fluffy (obviously new) so left fluff on your after bathing (a tiny thing). The beds were large and comfortable and we found the storage in the kitchen / bedrooms very handy. We found the walking / cycle path in front of the cottage handy for walking our dogs. About the location

Kinlochleven 8 miles; Fort William 15 miles.

Deriving its name from the Gaelic Baile a' Chaolais meaning 'The Village by the Narrows’, Ballachulish straddles the narrows at the mouth of Loch Leven. Encompassing North Ballachulish and South Ballachulish, these two villages were separated until 1975 when the Ballachulish Bridge opened. North Ballachulish sits just across the bridge while South Ballachulish lies 3 miles to the east on the southern side. North Ballachulish offers a hotel and petrol station/shop, whilst South Ballachulish has a supermarket, coffee shop, Post Office, pubs, hotels and a Tourist Information Centre/gift shop. Ballachulish attracts many visitors throughout the year and is a perfect base for those wishing to enjoy outdoor pursuits. Ballachulish once had a major slate quarrying operation which continued for over 250 years until 1955 when the quarry was closed and today the old quarries are now being reclaimed by nature and the area is famous once again but this time as an idyllic holiday location. Nearby Kinlochleven boasts Ice Factor, an indoor ice and rock climbing centre, plus Fort William, with the impressive title of the Outdoor Capital of the UK, is situated 15 miles to the north with access to the famous Nevis Range, and Glencoe is within easy reach. With Fort Augustus and Loch Ness about an hour’s drive away, Ballachulish is a fabulous holiday location.
