  • "Wagtail Cottage is a quiet and peaceful haven."

Set in beautiful countryside, but not far to travel by car to local attractions. The cottage was beautiful and had everything we needed for our stay. The beds were very comfortable! Sheila welcomed us warmly on arrival, giving us lots of information about the local area. Cakes and treats were laid out on the table which was really thoughtful, and a travel cot/highchair were supplied for our little one. Both of our children loved feeding the birds daily with the bird seed Sheila gave us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return in the future!

  • "On arrival we were greeted by Sheila, who couldn't wait to show us comprehensively around Wagtail Cottage."

It has everything you could need and crucially, there is a freezer - perfect for ice packs to take delightful local produce on a lengthy journey hone in what is laughingly called the British Summer. Many holiday cottages don't even have an ice box which is just unnecessarily too basic. Wagtail Cottage is rural, no road traffic sounds and only nature all around. Feeding the birds is a must and bird seed is kindly supplied - top marks - and the little feathered friends hang around in the bushes, pretty much waiting for you to put more out! A small, covered outside space allows relaxing and winding down after a day of sightseeing. Ah, yes, on to the beds, often a cause for disappointment. Not here. I can confidently say the bed was the best I've had in a Sykes Cottage and we've used Sykes for many years. Sheila almost apologised for it being higher than normal off the floor. I would have happily used a stepladder to sleep on this one! The beds and comprehensive fittings are standard across all their cottages on the complex, mind you, you can't hear anyone else. The owners were on hand most of our week and even sought us out her and there, Sheila especially eager to know if we were comfortable and all was good and was quite lovely to talk with. That level of friendly customer service is often absent elsewhere - other holiday cottage owners should seriously take note. Granted, there are good 'uns out there and I've dealt with a fair few. But you feel the absence of others after accidentally stumbling upon them on arrival, then never seeing them again. If basic things are broken or missing and need replenishing, phoning up is fine, but can feel anonymous, rather like complaining in your normal life. For the money holiday cottages cost (which is currently increasing quickly), patrons deserve better. I could go on longer, so I say if this is available, just book it - you won't be disappointed.

The peace and quiet was amazing. The hosts, Sheila and Peter, were lovely. Lots to do in the area. A really lovely, relaxing holiday with the added bonus of a cream tea awaiting us on our arrival (with homemade grape jelly!!!).

  • "Certain kitchen equipment was sadly lacking, decent non stick frying pan, orange juicer."

Chairs in living room were not the most comfortable, no foot rest. No black out curtains. The bed was nice and comfortable that gave us a good night sleep. Shower was good and powerful. Nice well kept garden.

We pride ourselves on providing a huge amount of kitchen equipment at the cottage, including a juice extractor, I'm sorry that you missed it. I could even have provided an electric one if you had asked me. There are two frying pans, the larger one is stainless steel, but either could have been changed on request. The suite is a good quality leather, but of course everyone's taste is different. We don't provide recliners because of health & safety reasons, if children are staying at the cottage little fingers can get trapped. We could have provided you with footstools if required, but we have never been asked for them before. Blackout curtains again, is something we have never had a comment about. I think you will agree, I did ask you at intervals during your stay, if you had everything you needed as I would have been more than happy to provide anything you wanted. In addition, I make all my guests aware i am available at any time to deal with queries and requests. I was happy to hear you found the beds comfortable and the shower good. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was excellently appointed with everything you could need for a great holiday including a cream tea on arrival!"

It is well situated for touring inland and both the North and South Cornwall coasts. Many local pubs for eating but can definitely recommend The Lanivet Arms only 20 mins away.

  • "As is often the case, the pictures of the cottage made it appear bigger so we were surprised how small the kitchen and lounge was."

The owners provided everything we needed so cooking was easy. The only problem we found was the sofa was not the comfiest, but we got round this by watching TV in bed.

We are so sorry to hear that you didn't feel the photographs of the property were a true representation, this is not something that has been brought to our attention before. When it comes to comfort we understand that it is a very personal thing and won't be everyone's comfort preference, however, the sofa is 2 years old and many guests have praised us on how comfortable they have found the property. We appreciate your feedback comments as well as the positive note you left in the guestbook. Property Owner

  • "This cottage was a great find."

It’s a lovely spot. I’m not sure the pictures do it full credit. We particularly appreciated the outside courtyard garden and additional lawned area with countryside views. It’s also superbly positioned for both the North and South Cornish coasts. Peter and Sheila were excellent hosts with a genuine desire to make the guest experience the best possible. The homemade grape jam (from vines at the cottage) as part of a welcoming cream tea exemplified this. Highly recommended.

The pictures really don't do the cottage justice, it's beautifully furnished, oozes in character and charm and Sheila and Peter have thought of everything its the best equipped Cottage I've stayed in !,the private garden is a delight and if you love birds you will be in your elements, ideally located to visit the Eden Project and many NT properties and Trago Mills less than 10 mins away. Lovely tranquil location and the homemade cream tea on arrival was a lovely touch If you are thinking about booking ,do it, you really won't regret it ,Poldark Cottage next door is also owned by Sheila and Peter

  • "The cottage was a delight - the online photos don’t do it justice, hence the ‘grading’ for the listing above."

It’s a wonderfully peaceful location with great outdoor space yet only minutes away from the main road networks and places to visit, such as Looe, Polperro, Fowey, the Eden Project, The Duchy of Cornwall, The Lost Gardens of Helligan, Charlestown, etc - the list goes on. The cottage itself has everything (and more!) that you could possibly need for your stay and, should you think up something additional, I have no doubt that Sheila and Peter would do all they could to sort it for you. They were wonderful hosts, making us feel completely at home from the outset. The cream tea (with homemade grape jelly...from the cottage’s own vines!) and chocolates on our arrival were also a lovey surprise - thank you! Overall, a wonderfully clean, well equipped, well located and wonderfully hosted cottage. Would easily recommend.

Everything had been thought about to make our stay comfortable from the start - we did not have to go shopping for the basics like kitchen towels, toilet paper, washing-up liquid, sponge or sugar! The landlady had prepared a Cornish cream tea for our arrival. A little quiet backwater that you could easily miss on your way to more popular destinations. And easy access to the coast, for walks, the Eden Project, farm shops and the general Cornish beauty. Thank you so much!

The lounge is very comfortable with a large flat screen tv . We had excellent weather for March , but it was lovely to have the woodburner for the evenings . Both bedrooms have very comfortable beds , and the added bonus of a tv in each. The cottage is in a lovely quiet rural location , but is well situated for visiting many places in Cornwall . We enjoyed days out in Polperro , Fowey and Looe . The Jubilee Inn is a five minute drive away , and we had a lovely meal there one evening . The cottage garden is very pretty with table ,chairs and a bench too . It was also good to have the large parking space .

The owners met us on arrival and were very pleasant and helpful. Sheila showed us around the cottage and Peter helped us to light the log burner. There was tea and a lovely chocolate cake waiting for us on arrival. The beds were extremely comfortable. Even though the weather was not too good being January, we still enjoyed our stay very much and would be very happy to stay again. We enjoyed feeding the birds in the garden with the seeds which were also provided. Really quiet location ideal to relax and unwind but not too far from Looe which we love. Liskeard is not far and has a large Morrison's supermarket which is handy, and the station which is ideal for travelling to other parts of Cornwall such as st Ives and Penzance.

On first entering the property we were met with a hospitality tray complete with chocolate tea and cake. The cottage is superbly equipped with everything you could think of. even down to bird seed for the bird table. It couldn't be faulted. The cottage itself is immaculate every room is pristine. There is a nice little area at the front where you can relax eat or just watch the birds at the feeder. It is set in a lovely lane a few miles inland om the coast. The nearest seaside places being Polperro, East and West Looe and Fowey. Bodmin moor is a short distance away. We had a lovely time, and travelled all over beautiful Cornwall, but a week was too short to go everywhere, so we have booked two weeks next year. Peter and Sheila have done their utmost to ensure a comfortable welcoming break and we have no hesitation in recommending this cottage. 10 out of 10.
