  • "This was our 3rd stay at 8 Harlyn Mews and we have already booked to come back at the same time next year - the cottage is perfectly located and we love that part of Cornwall."

The beaches and walks that are literally on your doorstep are wonderful. We did note however that the general condition of the cottage was looking a little tired, i.e. it could do with a lick of paint everywhere. We also pointed out in the faults book that the patio door was sometimes very stiff and that the door holder for it on the outside wall is broken. None of this however spoilt our stay and as stated we will be back again next March!

Thank you for your comments. The patio door part has rotted due to salt in the air. It has had a temporary repair but needs new patio doors fitting as the company cannot source a replacement fitting. Last year the house was fully booked and so I was unable to fit in a slot to get them replaced. A new radiator and new CH boiler were fitted since your last visit. The door holder has been replaced. I will endeavour to get the doors replaced asap. The same really for the decorating. Sadly the walls get scuffed with suitcases on a regular basis and guest do not operate the stair gate properly ( it has been replaced twice) and they yank at it pulling the fixing off the top and mark the wall. It has proved to be a constant source of frustration. Sourcing a local decorator who can fit in with the booking timetable is not easy but I do have one booked in for October this year. What was surprising was all the equipment in the house very useful. We had two dogs and the garden /field was great . It would be useful to have an outside light. Thank you for such a lovely holiday let. Tried to rebook but sadly already booked

Thank you for your positive feedback. The outside light has now been replaced with a brighter one that is not PIR. Property Owner

  • "Loved the house, well equipped, great location for the beach and the 7 bays area."

Will definitely be back. Only down side was the cleaner, she arrived as we were leaving saw our beach equipment as we were heading to the beach for one last morning and said “it’s gonna rain” I said “ not according to weather” (and it didn’t) so she said “ I can feel it!” Then went in and started shouting out of the window to us about the bedding and towels. We had left bedding in bag and towels in bath. My husband went back in and put all how she wanted it! Very sullen woman, wish we had not seen her was a bad end to a great week in a great house.

I glad you loved the house. It’s a shame you didn’t feel the same about Deborah. She’s Cornish but lived for 40 years in USA. So maybe has a strange way of talking. I’m sorry she came across as “a sullen woman” she’s not at all. She’s lovely and usually bends over backwards to be accommodating to guests. Good cleaners are very hard to find and I wouldn’t swop her she is very efficient and takes pride in her work. I’m so sorry she spoilt your last five minutes. Property Owner

You really can’t fault it. The location is amazing! Literally 2 minutes from the dog friendly beach and the house is beautiful with everything you could possibly need. The garden is just what we needed for two dogs. It was obviously too hot to go out through the daytime with the dogs this year so the added bonus of sky TV and good Wi-Fi was a blessing. We’ve already booked again for next year. I’m hoping the new shop and restaurant will be open by next year too.

Thank you for your positive feedback. I’m glad you enjoyed the house and garden. I’m so pleased to see you will return next year. Property Owner

There are wonderful coastal walks in both directions from Harlyn Bay, with a number of beautiful coves and beaches. Spotlessly clean, well-equipped and extremely comfortable, we and our dog love the place. This was our second visit and won't be the last. We will definitely be booking again for next year!

Building works were not an issue. Easy walk to the beach with dogs for lots of running and walks. Particularly like the extended garden which wasn’t there at our last stay, the dogs had a fabulous time chasing around the safe space and it’s perfect for children. Nice to have off road parkjng even though it was a tight fit for our larger vehicle. Only downside was the tumble drier not working, but as we had lovely sunny weather it really wasn’t a problem. Thank you for our bag of goodies on arrival which were a lovely surprise. T

Thank you for your kind words. It was unfortunate that the new tumble dryer had an intermittent fault and the engineer could not repair it until after you left. It is now working perfectly. Property Owner

  • "An excellent house in a really great position for the beach, Padstow and local attractions."

The house has a great garden/private field, which if you have children and a pet is amazing. Christine, the owner, is really lovely and made sure everything was good for the duration of the stay. The main construction site in front of the house was not an issue for us and the blokes working on that site are really considerate. There is however a separate construction contractor engaged in one of the houses on the corner of the entry road and they were not so amenable: if you need to get in or out you need to factor that in - but hopefully all construction will have been long finished by next summer. We would definitely book again, and 8 Harlyn Mews is a great place to stay.

I’m pleased that you enjoyed your holiday. Thank you for your kind words. We are looking forward to the end of all building works which hopefully won’t t last much longer. It would be lovely to see you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Wow what a lovely holiday home, we really wanted to insist on squatters rights!"

Beautiful and a well proportioned three bedroom house, large patio and the bonus of a lovely large grassed (recently!) area with swings for the grand-kids to play in when not on the beach. Grass was cut weekly. Lots of mod-cons although no George Foreman grill even though it was listed. Other stuff too that isn't listed, BBQ, iron and board, slo cooker, small whirly gig in garden. Travel cot was broken when we tried to put it up, managed to tape it and Chris the owner had a new one and mattress delivered ASAP. You can't get two normal cars (two smart cars would fit) on the two reserved spaces outside the house but we managed to get one behind the gate next to the patio. Brilliant place, we love Harlyn Bay anyway and we'll come again.

Thank you for your positive comments. Sorry about the listing not being accurate. I have the photographer booked in August (it’s been a long wait) to update the photos and details. No one has used the George Foreman grill in 4 years so I binned it, sorry. The Air fryer does a far better job. Property Owner

Shame about the building work but they did not seem to be working hard enough to create any disturbance. My only complaint is there is no point in having Sky TV if you dont tell people to bring their own card or provide them with Sky sports. My wife was pleased because it meant I had to go out instead of watching sport all the time.Perhaps you could inform guests that the bin men come round on thursdays. Very considerate amount of tea/coffee/ cleaning materials.

Thank you for your comments. I’m surprised that the bin men came on Thursday as they have always emptied the bins on a Saturday. I will look into it. Thank you. Property Owner

It had everything you need and more! Great garden for the dog and a nice patio area that gets the sun, The lovely beach is literally a 2 min walk it’s a brilliant place to stay! The only reason I marked the accuracy down is because of the pictures could do with updating. Our Labrador dog is terrified of wood floors so when I was looking this year for a cottage I thought I’d find one with carpet so there’s no stress. Unfortunately when we got to this property it had been upgraded to wooden floors throughout the ground floor. We had to go out and purchase rugs and mats which was a bit of a nightmare. For a normal family this would have been a great update but for us it was a little stressful. I would definitely love to stay again and just know to bring rugs etc with us.

From the personal communications with Christine right through to the actual property, we have been treated superbly at every step. The house itself is fabulous - exactly as described and literally a one minute walk onto the beautiful dog friendly beach at Harlyn Bay... From here you can walk to both Trevone and Mother Ivey's Bay beaches easily in 30 minutes... Padstow is 10 minutes by car, Porthcothan 15 minutes... A beautifully situated property. And, yes, there is building work going on but - honestly-it never impacted us one bit and the builders themselves were very considerate and friendly. I seriously cannot recommend this property highly enough - it's absolutely perfect for a stress free, dog friendly, kid friendly beach holiday!

The cottage is very well equipped. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived. The new kitchen is lovely. The beds were all very comfortable. The position not 100 yards from the beautiful Harlyn Beach is superb. We hit really lucky with the weather. The only down side is the building site that is going on around. When in the cottage we didn't hear it at all and there was no problem with the parking. When its finished there will be a deli and a restaurant underneath the apartments which will be very helpful. We just wish we would be able to afford a stay in the summer. I hope we will be back for an out of season stay again.

  • "The house is very well equipped is well positioned and extremely close to the coast paths and beach, however we were rather surprised on our arrival to see that the pub had been demolished and replaced by a large building site, this was not mentioned or bought to our attention during the booking process."

During the working week builders park opposite the house which would make access potentially difficult with a larger vehicle. Directions to the property need to be updated there is no pub. There were a number of small issues which require attention, for example the dishwasher door/ plinth it was very difficult to fully open the door for fear of it breaking. Outside lights and cooker hood fan didn’t work. The house would benefit from a deep clean the kitchen in particular. Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday with excellent weather.

I do apologise that you were unaware that the Harlyn inn was demolished 2 years ago. Sykes know all about the building works and last year I contacted all the guests before hand and gave them the choice of a full refund. All the guests that went said that the building site was not a problem. The kitchen at 8 harlyn mews has been completely ripped out and replaced with a lovely new kitchen. This was booked in for March 2020 but could not go ahead due to CIVID. The new build should be finished by March 2022. Property Owner

  • "We had difficulty finding the property as directions failed to mention that the pub had been knocked down and was a building site."

One of main reasons for booking was easy access to a pub. The location is not within easy walk of any amenities except the beach, which is superb. Overall experience was not 4 ticks as rated by agent as the property needs a thorough deep clean. On arrival, parking is tight, as what are two spaces to the front of property could possibly facilitate 2 smart cars and not people carriers. On entrance to property the hall mirror was not clean which then left to further inspection of property. Lounge, good open space area, bright and airy, stair case leading to first floor housed mops, high chair, buckets, vacuum cleaner etc., did not add to what should have been a relaxing environment as it was constantly in your face. Walls and lighting were dusty!, under TV unit needed clean and under chairs has not seen a clean in a while. Otherwise there were enough chairs to sit on for 6 people and tables to place own belongings. Be mindful when booking the property that network coverage is bad and could not use own mobile network. This however was not an issue as there is a telephone in the property. Kitchen, overall cleanliness OK to the eye, however went to use washing machine and inside door full of mould, donned gloves and ran cloth round rubber seal and the amount of crud that came off the seal left me feeling ill, this appliance is not fit to clean clothes. The dishwasher also needs addressing and the water jets are full of mould, begs to say how clean the plates etc. would be when put through a cycle. The plinth under these appliances is ill fitted and came away when opening cupboard doors. The kitchen is of a good size and every conceive utensil is to hand, which was great. Master bedroom, bed very soft, some sort foam/sponge topper on the mattress and there was a stain on the duvet. The en-suite needs a good clean as there was dust on the tiles, mirror inadequately cleaned, and mould around shower door, but at first glance appeared ok. General cleanliness need attention as window/external doors edging/close points were full of black crud/rust and did not leave a good impression Outdoors, not neat as some outdoor equipment strewn into a corner, hazard if a child went out and tripped over. Outside light not working. There are plenty of leaflets within the property for occupants to peruse and plan excursions and the location is quiet. Building works did not hinder or interrupt our stay. It is a pity the hygiene of the property did not me with our expectations and would have expected a higher standard since the Covid-19 outbreak. There are signs all over the property asking holiday makers to remove bedding, towels and clean plates etc. but this should reflected in the presentation of the property from the offset

I’m so sorry you found the house cleaned to a poor standard. I was paying the cleaner £42.50 an hour so expected better. She has now been replaced and I’m hopeful that it will be spotless in future. The whole kitchen has been ripped out and replaced. An understairs cupboard has now been built to hide the vacuum cleaner and high chair. Property Owner

  • "We arrived at the house at about 7:30 after a dreadful journey from Kent and a half hour + drive through an apocalyptic rainstorm."

In fact, we took refuge on a service station forecourt at one point! But when we got to our destination it was all worthwhile. Everything was perfect, the house was ready and waiting, the little field for the dog to chase rabbits in and for the girls to run into to play on the swings just as the mood took them. We were lucky with the weather and the bay itself was as always wonderful! 8 Harlyn Mews was a home from home and was all we could have wished for. It was our second visit to the house and unfortunately it is already booked for this time next year so we have to find an equivalent substitute, it won't be easy!

Shame about the building work but we were kept well informed by the owners and given the option of a full refund if we wanted it. Decided to go ahead because of the beach being on the doorstep and were so glad we did. The building work didn't cause us any problems it was remarkably quiet and the workers were very considerate. If I have any slight issues it was the parking - the house does have 2 parking spaces but it is very tight to get into them and we did have to shuffle cars around with the neighbours to allow access on a few occasions. That being said I would definitely stay again as we had a fantastic stay.

  • "First of all I want to start by saying we love Harlyn Bay."

We love the complex (we have had another house previously in this complex) and the house was lovely! In fact I have booked it again for next year. In view of the fact that the price has gone up by over £500 pounds I would like to make one or two observations. The waste bins and the area in which they are housed could have been cleaner. The sofas/chairs (except for the chair with its own footstool) after a while were not very comfortable (my husband and I being in our late seventies) do tend to sit around more than we used to,.The weather during the week we were there was pretty bleak on occasions and so we all did rather more sitting than usual. Everyone said the same thing! Outside the private grassed field is in fact a piece of waste land with areas of rough grass and lots of bare earth (sometimes piled into mounds.) The swing was there in spirit only as the essential swinging parts were missing. According to the file on household information we would find all the beach equipment in the hut at the back, but we had to ring up the houseowner to find out how to access them. (I am sorry we didn't manage to get the beach chairs back into their bags quite as neat as they came out.) In accordance with the houseowners request we did not use her grandaughters new bodyboard. I feel that a larger selection of bodyboards/wetsuits would not go amiss. My husband and I live in Whitby and so are familiar with both things being on sale at our local Co-op and know that they can be bought at very a reasonable cost. I mention all these things because at £2200 for the week it is just nosing into the luxury catergory and as such visitors would expect these niceties to be covered. I have not put this letter together for general consumption but as well meant observations, so whether you print them or not is up to you. My good wishes to you all. Kind regards Coreen Parkinson.

There is currently some building work nearby so some noise. The house has a good selection of indoor baby toys, outdoor swings and beach buckets/spades etc. One minor grumble the baby high chair was quite grubby and needed good antibacterial clean before use same goes for waste bucket area under sink, otherwise the house was clean and tidy.
