"A lovely dog-friendly cottage that has been sympathetically extended, combining much of it's original character but providing every modern convenience."
The house is comfortably and tastefully furnished throughout and is in an ideal location for coastal walks, with several excellent pubs in the vicinity. The weather during our stay was dreadful but we didn't mind, the log burner kept us warm and the whole place was really cosy. We hope to stay again soon.
"Very nice stay I would stay again the only negative would be more Christmas ..."
Very nice stay I would stay again the only negative would be more Christmas decorations to make it feel more festive over a Christmas period, everything else was perfect
"Another fantastic week at 14 Boscaswell."
Well equipped & comfortable. Looking forward to next year.
"The cottage is lovely, very well appointed and very well equipped."
We were meant to be a party of 6 adults, 1 baby and 2 dogs. Ended up only being 4 adults which was a good thing really as the living space downstairs would have been a tight squeeze with all of us. No cot had been left out for us or any instructions on where to find it. That said we had a lovely stay and I would go back. One of the bedroom door handles was loose and I got trapped in a bedroom. Did manage yo escape and reported the Ipswich was dealt with really quickly.
"Have been with Sykes for several years now , this was by far the best we have had, all the home comforts and more."
Excellant facilities in a central location ,looking forward to going back next year, still more to see. Thank you.
"A lovely little cottage in a good position to access all the Cornish coast line."
Very well equipped . We were only a party of 4 adults. I think it might have been a squeeze for 6 people. Parking for 2 cars with the local free car park very close. Altogether excellent.
"Cosy cottage, lovely welcome pack ."
.....tulips lasted all week! Directions a bit 'hazy' as the BLUE fence is now a faded grey! Turn left just after the Radjel and immediately before the school sign.
Loved our stay. Great location to explore all the scenery of beautiful Cornwall
"Thanks for letting us stay in your beautiful home from home."
We couldn't have asked for a cosier place to stay with our 4 month old baby. Comfy beds, spotlessly clean and warm.
"Great location if looking for a walking base, or general holiday spot on the north west coast with access to public transport."
House was well presented, spacious and comfortable to chill in after days out. Would definitely consider both this house and Sykes again
"The little cottage was really quaint and stocked with everything you could want."
Close to some lovely walks. Its great that could take your dog. If I had to be really picky beds were slightly too soft for a couple and tv could would be better with at least a few more sky channels as weather was not fab when we went. The North Inn pub had really lovely home cooked food.
"Lovely cottage, much bigger in real life and very well equipped !"
Great to be able to park outside and it has a safe garden for dogs. The weather was awful but the big cosy real fire was wonderful. We had an initial problem upon our arrival which was swiftly dealt with by the local manager. Both village pubs were welcoming. Would prefer to stay in St Just due to the extra amenities but this was an unexpected happy find.
"Absolutely gorgeous cottage !"
Everything that we would consider essential taken care of ... a well equipped kitchen ..a cosy sitting room with a super log burner and comfy beds . Plenty of info/ guides/ books and games I really can't think of anything that would have made our weeks stay any better , even the Cornish weather was kind to us An ideal location for our explorations of West Penwith and beyond . Highly recommend . We even booked for next year before we left, I think that says it all !
"This was the second time staying at 14 Boscaswell and again it was excellent."
The cottage is well equipped, comfortable, warm & cosy, just right for returning after a walk on a blustery day. Just a small point, the toaster has seen better days and should be replaced as 1 side doesn't work and the other takes an age. All in all a great cottage.
"We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage."
It's an old cottage that has been perfectly and tastefully modernised to be cosy and comfortable. The owners have excellent taste in decor, in layout and in the lovely paintings that are displayed around the house. The kitchen is equipped with just about everything you could possibly need. (A knife sharpener would make it perfect.) The beds are comfy and we had very sleepful nights. We found some gems in the bookshelf for our one rainy afternoon on the sofas. Our dog loved the morning stroll down towards the sea by Geevor Mine. My niece and I enjoyed the live music on Thursday night at The North Inn. We would love to go back again. It's definitely five stars.
"Another excellent stay (our fifth!"
). The cottage was as clean, comfortable and welcoming as ever. It's incredibly well equipped and perfectly situated down a very quiet lane but just a step away from the village shop, bus stops etc. The log burner is very welcome for chilly autumn evenings and saves putting the heating on. Our only issue was the very stiff & sticking front door; on several occasions we thought we were going to be unable to get back in. Even more concerning was the difficulty of opening it from the inside which could have been a fire hazard - and did not help our stiff shoulders! Otherwise, five star as ever.
"We had a lovely stay."
The cottage is beautiful and well-equipped and in a great location for exploring Cornwall. If we had one complaint to make it would be that there is no recycling at the cottage, despite the local council offering it free. We had to take all our stuff (plenty as we're a family of 6) to Penzance. Even then it is tricky as Tesco and Morrisons don't take it. On days when we weren't going to use the car or go to Penzance it was a problem.
"It was a perfect stay!"
We were there to celebrate my mum's 80th birthday and it really felt like our home away. The cottage had everything we needed including some thoughtful additions for picnicking. And our dogs were welcome too, which made it even more enjoyable for all of us!
"The property is lovely and exceeded our expectations in comfort and levels of equipment, very much a home and not just a rental property."
"Lovely little cottage, right in the heart of the village."
Lots of extras in the cottage, high chair, freezer pack (for picnic etc). There were six adults and we never felt we were short of space in the cottage. Not a criticism but info pack needs updating as it asks residents to put out the bin on a Monday. It was not collected as there is a private collection at about 0800 hours on a Friday morning. Really handy for the North Inn where we ate on 3 nights, and we all had excellent meals. Radjel Inn even closer but only do drinks. We found the cottage was a great location for exploring West Penwith and the Lizard, with short travel times. Definitely visit Porthcurno Beach and Minack Theatre, amazing. Definitely recommend this cottage.
"Provide a map of the exact location of the property relative to the Radjel pub for people like me who fail to read written directions."
"What a fabulous cottage!"
We had a wonderful family holiday & the cottage was absolutely perfect with so many extra touches such as cool bag & ice packs a real home from home and the lovely welcome pack of flowers, biscuits & milk. We would love to come back & wouldn’t hesitate to recommend! A fantastic base to discover beautiful coastal walks.
"Splendid, comfy cottage, which everybody adopted straight away - the four year old was absolutely happy with her bed and the 8 year old worked his way through the book shelf, planning to come back until he has finished all 8 volumes of Mr."
Gum. (We others liked our stay very much, too.) Thanks.
"The attention to detail was a little disappointing."
There was no measuring jug provided, there was no kindling, there was no potato peeler. The welcome pack consisted of half a pint of milk and a packet of biscuits, not what we have experienced previously. There was no ability to recycle and there are no recycle points in or near Pendeen ( we tried ). Overall there was too much furniture making the living room feel cramped.
Thank you for your feedback and we hope you had an enjoyable stay at 14 Boscaswell Downs. With regard to the welcome pack I should clarify that this consisted of tea, a pint of milk, biscuits and fresh flowers . There is also a very generous supply of kiln dried logs. We take pride in ensuring that the cottage is very well equipped, particularly the kitchen. However, if items are missing the housekeeper is happy to replace them at short notice. With regard to recycling facilities, unfortunately this is outside our control although there are facilities in nearby Penzance. Property Owner
"The cottage was great & well equipped."
The kitchen, bathrooms & living areas were spotlessly clean. However, I had an issue with the bedsheet & mattress topper in the main bedroom, which were stained, no drama though, just changed it from the other double bed. Great location, spent most days walking the coast path, great relaxing week. I would recommend staying here.
"This is our second time of staying in this beautiful cottage!"
It was so good first time we came back ! Clean comfy cute it has all you need and more !!
"Lovely well-furnished cottage, extremely clean and well equipped."
The owner Julian is always very helpful. Pendeen is an excellent centre for a holiday in the far west, quiet but very friendly with a shop, two pubs and wonderful Portuguese tapas coffee shop & restaurant. Our fourth visit and we are already planning our next.
"Great cottage, great location."
"We had the best week at this wonderful cottage."
So much more like a home which was just so lovely, many of the other places we have stayed at were obviously kitted out to rent but not 14 Boscawell Downs. Really comfy beds and sofas, lots of space and brilliant equipped kitchen. Could not recommend highly enough!
"One of the best cottages that we have stayed in."
It was comfortable, furnished to a high standard and well equipped. The location was great, nice and peaceful but close to all the local amenities. The only downside was our initial impression, as on arrival the outside bin was overflowing, with bags of recycling stacked up around it - it was not a pretty sight or smell. It then became our responsibility to deal with the previous occupants recycling, as it seemed the caretaker could not be bothered to take it to the recycling bins 1min away (despite a guest book directing guests to do this on several pages)
"Absolutely perfect thank you !"
Extremely clean and well thought out providing all you need for a fabulous stay . The quality of the equipment, bedding, towels and soft furnishings is excellent , nothing tatty or cheap just like being at home. We certainly would recommend the cottage.
"Great little location quiet and secluded ."
Beautifully appointed cottage to high standard.
"We booked this as a 60th Birthday present for my mum."
WOW! What a cottage! It has everything you need. The cottage is just beautiful, very clean and they haven't scrimped on anything - We didnt want to leave. We will definitely be going back.
"A fabulous cottage !"
As soon as we opened the door we knew we had made the right choice !! Beautifully furnished with everything we needed ! The little village is very quiet which is great ! Some lovely walks right on the doorstep across the cliffs ! It was nice to come back to a log burner and relax with a home cooked casserole as I took my slow cooker ! Would def recommend !!
"Cottage was very comfortable and the house keeping team had cleaned it so it was spotless."
Despite the gale force winds and usual unpredictable autumn weather the location is beautiful and the cottage very cosy. Would definitely return hopefully next year.
"Very comfortable cottage, well equipped and warm."
Beds very comfy. Ideal for the 3 of us to walk the South West Coast Path section from St Ives to Lamorna.
"Lovely cottage, very well And generously stocked."
Exactly as we had expected. Lovely and clean. Only complaint being that the front garden looked rather tired and unloved and that the large downstairs utility window Could be opened Easily from the outside.....
"A week away in a charming cottage."
Some milk, a goody basket and some flowers greeted us which was very nice. The cottage is comfortable, clean and neighbours friendly. Parking for two cars at a push, but close to a car park. There are throws available for humans and four legged visitors and a great log burner. Local pubs welcoming and good place to stay for visiting the real Cornwall.
"Lovely holiday cottage comfy beds, nice seating areas."
"Extremely well-equipped cottage in a lovely area unspoiled by tourism."
Our two week stay was over far too quickly! Lovely fresh flowers and welcome basket on arrival. Many fabulous walks straight from the front door - we'd highly recommend the short walk behind the village church up to Carn Eanes and also the longer walk to Pendeen lighthouse and further on to Portheras Cove. The Gurnard's Head pub a short drive away in Zennor serves fantastic food and was one of the highlights of our stay (you really must book in advance). Lil's Chippy in Pendeen is also a must both for fish and chips and the breakfast rolls. McFadden's butchers in St.Just do amazing Cornish Pasties and their sausages are the best we've had, by far. We did have issues with the heating/hot water in the property, resulting in the owner twice having to call out a plumber. The boiler was eventually fixed and in all fairness, we had great communication with Julian, the owner throughout. It might be worth noting that we had absolutely no mobile phone signal in the property and were advised by one of the locals to go to the car park opposite the Costcutter shop in order to get a signal (this is not mentioned in the listing).
"The cottage and its location was perfect."
Many thoughtful items provided, kitchen was well stocked with all necessary hardware, and a dishwasher! Areas for improvement would be (I) the shower cubicle in the en suite was tight for space, (2) the bedroom door and landing floor creaked loudly which made getting a 2 yr old off to sleep tricky, (3) operating the tv via Freesat was not intuitive although DVDs were plentiful. Otherwise, overall it was a lovely spot, the local Costcutter sold basic provisions and the proximity of St Just more than supplemented. The cottage provided much useful local information, in our opinion the chippy at St Just was worth the sort drive. The North Inn nearby was friendly enough but the rear of the pub looked very uncared for, and not that clean.
"Lovely quaint cottage with lots of extras not expected - extremely comfortable ..."
Lovely quaint cottage with lots of extras not expected - extremely comfortable and the location is perfect - we had one small complaint and that would be that every door squeaked like a howling banshee no one could get up for a comfort break without the whole house knowing- we would definitely stay again but would take a can of wd40 with us
"Lovely cottage, just as expected from advert."
Good location, only minor reservation was that many of the walks were not really dog friendly but the cottage itself made us all feel relaxed and welcome.
"A lovely well presented little cottage perfect for exploring the local countryside, in easy reach of Penzance and St Ives."
"Comfortable cottage, well decorated, heating works really well, everything we needed provided."
Many thanks. The front door sticks a bit. I turned the hot tap in the bath on full and got cool water, but noticed as I turned it off that if I only turned it on a little, I got hot water. If this is right, perhaps put something in the instruction book about it. The instruction book doesn't say to put the key back in the coded box outside the front door when you leave, but I guessed that was the right thing to do!
"It is a very nice place to stay ,the weather was on the cold side ,so once we got the fire going and the heating on, the place warmed up very quickly."
"The cottage was clean, spacious, comfortable, and welcoming."
Great location, tucked out of the way. Would use again.
"The booking process was straight fordward and the accommodation exceeded my expectations in every aspect There were also many helpful and necessary emails but also marketing emails which for me came very close to a feeling of being overburdened by emails."
"The cottage itself was lovely, very well-appointed and spotlessly clean."
It was bright and attractive and felt very much like a home rather than a rental. It was in a good position, off the road in Pendeen so quiet, with very friendly neighbours, but also just a step away from the shop and pubs. The housekeeper Charlotte was also very helpful, answering a query by return before we left and popping over to switch off a very hot towel rail within hours for us (crazily the switch was in a locked cupboard). Just a few small points: we found the 4pm chech-in rather late (and confusing on the arrival details which had two times, 3 pm and 4 pm£. Secondly, it would be nice to have the bed in the main bedroom on the other wall so you could look out at the sea view. We were also concerned about the slipping door handle in that room so didn’t shut it for fear of getting locked in! Our experience with Sykes was less happy; trying to get confirmation that the cottage had non-feather bedding before paying our main balance took several increasingly desperate emails. We got there in the end but we had exactly the same problem when booking with you for another cottage in the spring where the message wasn’t passed on to the owner at all. We’re not sure if we would book another cottage with you but now we know 14 Boscaswell Downs is ok on that issue would definitely return there.
"A very comfortable cottage with lots of homely attention to detail."
The living room/dining space was particularly pretty, and was a great place to relax at the end of the day. We found masses to do - from walking down to the tucked away beach closest to Pendeen - to day trips to the Scilly Isles from Penzance. (Park near Pendeen lighthouse for the little gem of a beach!) Tin mine history and Poldark sites are in walking distance too with stunning coast path walks, and it was useful to have a few shops at hand for when you run out of milk - and the Costcutter opens at 7! We visited a lovely National Trust garden, explored Mousehole and St Ives, saw a play at the Minack cliff theatre, and went to the Telegraph museum at Porthcurno (absolutely fascinating - with great talks and demonstrations). Our elder sons hired kayaks and paddled from Porthcurno round Land's End to Sennen, which was very exciting - and they saw loads of seals. We searched out lots of ancient atmospheric sites like St Euny's Well and Carn Euny settlement, the Merry Maidens standing stones and dolmen. The big beaches were very busy, so best to arrive early - or head to gorgeous cove.
"Was a lovely cottage."
Really did meet our expectations. Didn't realize Pendeen was so quiet though. Local facilities available which was great, unfortunately weather wasn't great when we stayed, so did find it a boring!!!. Live on the isle of Wight and weather was fantastic there, bleak, stormy and cool in July!!!!
"The cottage is delightful."
It is in an ideal location tucked off the main road yet just minutes from the local shop and in easy walking distance of the coastal paths and tin mining history of the area. The owner has thought of everything you are likely to need plus extras. On arrival after a long journey from Lancashire the biscuits, tea, milk and everything to make a cosy fire were very welcome. The flowers were a nice touch.
"In future I will be looking to book from a Saturday to Saturday as we were unable to make the Friday and after a long car journey down it was Monday before we felt able to do anything and then had to leave the following Friday."
So, it was quite a short stay. We loved the cottage and Pendeen and the weather was brilliant. The only other complaint was that it wasn't as dog friendly as we thought and we had problems finding a beach for our dog to run around on and swim. Maybe if we had more time that would have been solved. We will be back to try again but for longer.
"The neighbors on both sides of the cottage were very friendly and made us feel welcome."
The open plan sitting/dinning/kitchen area was a comfortable and social place for the family to spend time together and to join in with the cooking and domestic chores! The small garden had sun all day and early evening. Pendeen was away from the busy tourist spots and a lovely quiet place to stay and a short drive to the main tourist places as St Ives and Lands End, there is a bus stop close by and you can catch the open top bus in the summer months.
"I enjoyed absolutely everything about my holiday, couldnt fault a single thing."
Didnt want to come home and cant wait to go back. Brilliant.
"The cottage we stayed in was warm and welcoming."
It was well appointed and comfortable. We had a lovely stay.
"Wonderful & well appointed holiday cottage."
A lot of thought had gone into everything right down to a vase of roses on our arrival!!
"If we are to be very critical, the en suite shower and bathroom was a little on the small side, but that in no way detracted from our enjoyment of this lovely cottage."
The kitchen was very well equipped and the cottage was very comfortable.
"What a lovely cottage."
The nicest we have ever been to. Location was great too . I loved the walk behind the church and the views were outstanding . The cottage was well equipped and we would definitely stay there again. Only slight moan was that the garden is a little small but there is a great playground nearby and numerous coastal walks too. If you are a fan of the tin coast (as I am) you will love this cottage. Also we highly recommend Mermaid boat trips in Penzance.
"The only thing needing improvement was the weather, but we did get a few good days!"
"The cottage was newly extended, refurbished, decorated and kitted out to a very high standard which was a lovely surprise!"
The layout was great. Our party consisted of five adults, we didn't feel cramped or squashed in as the accommodation was very roomy, everyone agreed that it would be comfortable to live there permanently!
"What a little gem !"
The contact beforehand was excellent and the cottage easy to locate from the clear instructions. Everything was as expected and more, even down to fresh flowers on the dining room table. A lovely touch. Extremely clean and well maintained with just about everything you could think of that you might need. Great neighbours and locals generally very helpful and friendly. Superb walks down to the lighthouse, beach and SW coastal path. Our little dog loved snuggling up in his bed beside the wood burner. We think this is probably the best holiday cottage that we have stayed in and are well rested after our week away. Just perfect!!
