  • "Lowena is a lovely period cottage in Tywardreath which is conveniently situated for many beaches and attractions."

There is a butcher’s and village shop and pub serving good food. The cottage itself is simply but comfortably furnished and equipped. The owners live locally and are extremely helpful. We stayed over Christmas and they provided a lovely Christmas tree and other decorations. Unfortunately the oven failed on our first day but Lee the owner organised a replacement to be fitted immediately even though it was Christmas Eve. We would definitely stay in Lowena again.

  • "What a great spot!"

Perfect for our needs. We don't drive so having a bus stop a few doors down and a short walk to the train station is the dream! Owners were helpful and collected us from the station. Local amenities were good local shops nearby and a small supermarket. Great chip shop a few doors away and super meals from the pub over the road. Short walk to the beach. House was clean with a well stocked kitchen. A few reviews mention the dog next door. You could hear it a couple of times a day but the owner was quick to call it in. All in all a great holiday home in a lovely location.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We’d be happy to welcome you back to Lowena should you return to Cornwall. Property Owner

! Amazing week was had by all- 2 adults, three children and Buddy the dog. Super clean, well equipped and very comfortable seaside cottage. Handy outside space with laundry room and lovely high garden to enjoy a glass of wine after a busy day on the beach. Beautiful little village with a great butchers and friendly village shop and super food served in the pub across the road. Perfect early morning walks on the beach and a great breakfast served at the Ship Inn in Par. Edies restaurant is well worth a visit a few miles away at Carlyon Bay, delicious food and wine. Perfect hosts who were at hand if we were to need anything during our stay. We will be back to this hidden little gem.

Which will probably explain why it’s a rental having returned from holiday I’ve been informed that a heater ls now not working and the owner is seeking compensation even though we didn’t use the heater during our visit what a shame avoid if your looking a relaxing break

We aim to provide an exceptional experience for all our guests, as confirmed by the many reviews we receive, both direct and via Sykes/Helpful Holidays. We are proud to be rated very highly for all aspects which are within our control. It appears the basis of your review arises from the fact that, sadly, during changeover we found the heater in the single room is damaged (deep crack to the front panel). We appreciate that accidents happen but are disappointed we weren’t made aware of this. The heater cannot be repaired and will need to be replaced so we have had to inform Sykes/Helpful Holidays. The booking website has photos of all areas of the property and specifically highlights access to the garden as does the cottage information pack. We offered to arrange to tend the garden later in the week as the heavy rain had prevented this. We heard nothing from you, denying us the opportunity to address this or any other issue. Easy access to all the surrounding areas. The village pub is fantastic for food .I would say that the garden really is not for the elderly or small children, very steep steps to get to it.There was no iron or ironing board which may suit some people as you are on holiday. Also maybe some throws on the sofas just so you can use at night if it was cold.Over all we had a lovely stay. And the owner Lee was very nice and accessible.

The dogs next door are a nightmare barking most of the evening. We was going to take our dog but at the last minute changed our minds and we were glad we did ,next doors dogs would have set our dog off. The garden is lovely but the steps are very steep and to be honest we didnt use it (next doors dogs) and wouldn't like to scale the steps . The location is brilliant 15 minute walk to the train station and you can go anywhere in Cornwall for £5 on the the bus. If the dogs hadn't barked every night it would be a 10

Feels like it has been recently re-decorated and many of the white goods replaced. That said, the electric hob is rather tired and one of the plates does not work. But overall we were very happy with the property and enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for your feedback and letting us know about the hob. We can confirm that a new hob has now been fitted and is fully functional. We are glad to hear you had a nice time at the cottage. Property Owner

It was less than a mile or so to the beach and even closer to the railway station which provided an easy way to get to St. Ives for the day. There was a also a bus service from outside the front door to nearby Fowey and to Mevagissey in the other direction. Nice to leave the car behind occasionally! We also enjoyed the Eden Project - just 15 mins away by car. All in all, a great location and an excellent property. Highly recommended!

One slight criticism is that the oven hob is an old fashioned style which takes forever to heat up. The settings are very worn so it's difficult to see what setting it's on And a plate rack for the sink area would be useful when not using the dishwasher. Overall a really lovely place to stay in the heart of the village virtually next door to the village shop and opposite the village pub. Really enjoyable stay would definitely book again.

Thank you for your feedback. The owner's are looking to replace the hob. Property Owner

  • "We agree with all the previous reviews."

It was extremely clean, exactly as described, very comfortable and in a nice village, within walking distance to Par Beach / the coast / a nice pub (opposite the cottage) and Par train station. The dogs next door do bark if you go out to the wash room / garden, but this wasn’t a problem as the barking was short-lived. We stayed on one of the hottest weeks of the year so slept with our windows wide open. Consequently we were disturbed at night by the noise from the pub (until around 11.30 when it all went silent); the church bells (which chime every 15mins even during the night); the traffic, which is extremely noisy from around 6am until 9am (tractors; HGV’s; buses and noisy motorbikes all pass within metres of the windows) and the aircon units on the back roof of the butchers. The village could definitely do with some traffic calming and a 20mph speed limit. Ear plugs or shutting the windows will cut out a lot of the noise though and it may not affect everyone - it depends on what you’re used to. We enjoyed our stay in Lowena and would recommend it.

The cottage is beautifully presented with everything inside to make it a warm comfortable stay. Parking is never an issue, we’ve always been able to park directly outside the front, with the added bonus of no parking fees, unlike other places. The New Inn opposite is a very dog friendly pub, does great food and handy to walk across to after a long day out. There’s also a good butcher along from the cottage and a well stocked local store around the corner if you wanted to cook at home, Par station is literally just down the road, where we caught the train to St Ives for a day out one day… it was so easy. Approx an hours train ride as opposed to a two hour drive and when there, it’s a short gentle walk into town. Thank you Lee and Mary for another wonderful stay,

The garden was up some steep steps as described on the website so bear this in mind when booking. It wasn’t a problem for us as we were out every day enjoying the glorious Cornish coastline. The cottage is really well situated for exploring stretches of the South West Coastal Path and close to the Eden Centre which was well worth the the visit. Our favourite pub was the Rashleigh Arms in Polkerris but there are lots of pubs and restaurants within easy reach. Mevagissey,Fowey and Polperro are all nearby and very picturesque. We found loads of walks and Par Sands a dog friendly beach is a 15 minute walk from the cottage. The owners provided a very helpful information pack by email just before we arrived. Loads of places to visit locally such as Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan. Some pretty beaches and towns to explore such as Fowey, Mevagissey. The local pub, 20 yards away was welcoming with good food and St Austell beers. Everywhere was dog friendly, apart from some beaches in the summer. Strongly recommend a coastal walk to next cove, Polkerris, to eat at Sam's or Rashleigh Inn. Owners quick to respond to any questions and no problem parking outside. Could do with an airier to dry clothes as not all can be tumble dried.

About the location

TYWARDREATH

Fowey 3.3 miles; St Austell 6.3 miles.

The pretty, historic Cornish village of Tywardreath, meaning ‘The House on the Strand’, lies in the heart of Daphne du Maurier country and features in her book of the same name. St Andrew’s, the village church, is said to have the best peal of bells in the area, while the village has a lively community, centred round its excellent pubs and range of shops. There are several safe, sandy beaches close to the village, with a variety of watersports and leisure activities available. Par, a small, china clay port with a dog friendly sandy beach is a fifteen minute walk from the village or 5 minutes in the car, home to a main line railway station. Polkerris Beach, a 30 minute walk or a 5 minute drive away, has a beachside restaurant, pub and watersports centre. The attractive waterside village of Fowey is just three miles away, from where there are some dramatic cliff walks to Gribbin Head, passing through much of du Maurier’s familiar landscape. There are many family attractions in the area, including Mevagissey and Charlestown harbours, the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Tywardreath is a village that will appeal to families and those keen to explore the rich heritage and gorgeous coastline of South Cornwall.
