"Perfectly wonderful, a really lovely cottage, clean ."
I took my own bedding as I was concerned about getting marks from my dogs paws on the white bedding. The pillows are super puffy and look as though they would be cosy but sadly as soon as you pop your head on, they flatten out. Maybe suitable for others but not for me. I will take my own pillows in the future. The shower was perfectly adequate although after a very short while the shower went cold on 3 days which were on the coldest days of our 5 day stay. We really enjoyed staying here and would certainly return, we used the farm shop for many lovely foods, the homemade lasagna is delicious. Chocolate cake left by Jo was lovely not only in taste but also in gesture , thank you .
"A great place in beautiful countryside."
Ross is a good half hour / forty minute walk away (along a narrow road unless you find the cut through behind the church accrossthe fields!). River is 15 min walk away. Lovely farm shop around the corner which our grown up "kids" loved! Outdoor space is great, esp if the weather is not so good, and extra fridge/freezer came in really handy. Lots to see and do in the area (canoeing, butterfly farm, forest walks). Ross is also very dog friendly. Had a lovely holiday.
"Wonderful place to relax and unwind."
My husband and I have just spent 2 fantastic weeks in this gorgeous converted barn. Minutes from Ross on Wye, yet deep in the Hereford countryside . Very well equiped throughout, although I would agree with other reviewers that a bit more comfort is needed downstairs in the kitchen/dining/seating area. We made full use of the farm shop at the end of the lane and the farm itself is a delight to walk around with easy access to walks along the river Wye and plenty of walks in all directions from the village. Jo (the owner) was very welcoming. Friendly and informative, nothing was too much trouble. We hope to revisit in the future.
"Fantastic property well equipped and a great location."
Would recommend to anyone looking for a break near to ross on wye.
"The cottage was lovely for our needs of meeting up with family and friends located centrally for everyone in a lovely environment."
The house was well equipped for us, glad of a dishwasher although only a half size was great. Also with a baby having a washing machine was very useful and a must for us on the road for 4weeks. The problem we all had was finding a comfortable seat the dining chairs are very hard and the living room seats don't give not much back support, so some nice seats for 6 people to relax in would be a bonus. Otherwise it was very pleasant. We made full use of the farm shop round the corner and enjoyed some nice walks.
"We absolutely fell in love with the Hayloft."
It was the perfect place and setting for our 3 day family breakaway with my twin sister and our 3 teenagers and a dog. The secluded garden was great for the dog to roam and for the teenagers to play ball games. We ventured from there to GoApe, Pedalabikeaway and the Courtyard Theatre in Hereford. We were impressed with the nearby well stocked honesty shop and enjoyed the local walk through the farm to the River Wye. My sister agreed that the Hayloft was the ideal home where we'd like to live. It had a wonderful feel, oozed rustic charm and was simply beautiful. We felt supremely catered for and warmly welcomed. Thank you!!!
"Cosy and comfortable cottage in a lovely quiet location."
The cottage has everything you need…with a super little outside, enclosed garden. The beautiful market town of Ross on Wye (with some gorgeous shops, restaurants and pubs) is just an hour or so walk along the river. We really enjoyed our stay, Thank you!
"Very unique accommodation totally different to any other property used in the past."
This property is very rustic with all the modern appliances. Well looked after warm and comfortable.
"Nice relaxing stay over new year, loads of walks and Ross is close enough to walk to."
The Hayloft is a great place, well equipped and nicely furnished, perfect for a cosy winter hideaway. Thanks Jo!
"Cosy get away accommodation, high standards, local amenities."
Definitely stay again .
"Quirky property, sympathetically renovated in a beautiful location."
Our stay would have been enhanced if the living area had been more comfy and there had been a wardrobe in the master bedroom. The outside area and bar are great for the summer.
Quiet and central location. Kitchen fully equipped. Beds comfortable. Owner provided cake and lovely garden flowers as table decoration. Compact area if 6 adults staying. Dog gates would be useful for the stairs
"Lovely unique accomodation and a good location."
Well equipped kitchen. Two bathrooms ideal for up to 6. Cute garden perfect for the weather and secure for any size dog.
Great area. Great holiday!
"We really enjoyed our stay; the Hayloft was comfortable and clean."
We had everything we required for our stay. I would recommend only the following for future guests - bring some indoor 'grippy' shoes as the floors are cold downstairs and the wooden floors and stair not suitable for walking around in socks. Maybe a note for the owners to provide lighter duvets for the beds in summer as we were too hot with winter duvets. But an excellent base for exploring the Wye Valley
"Beautiful location hayloft is very relaxing"
"Lovely place …."
Unusual, charming and very comfortable Jo was very kind and thoughtful Farm shop just up the road was also a treat and good to support as its a regenerative farm ( go look for the mural ) I slept in the bedroom downstairs and loved watching the big trees in the breeze I think the only thing we missed were some more deckchairs ( only 2) and perhaps I bit more colour in the garden ( but that might be a deliberate choice ? )
"Great place to stay, interesting and comfortable."
Very well provisioned with with materials for everyday life, Location excellent for touring the Welsh Borders
"What an absolutely delightful stay at the Hayloft."
Quietly set down a country lane but also close to amenities. We thoroughly enjoyed the welcome cake left for us. Everything you need is catered for. Sympathetic décor with a modern twist. Not sure the photo's do the place justice. Perfectly situated for scenic walks. We looked up local circular walks and we were not disappointed. The welcome pack was very informative. Fabulous, we will return and recommend. Thank you. Mags
"Property was perfect."
Lovely place for our short break to go out walking. Clean and well presented. Facilities were spot on with two bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, comfy lounge and condiments for catering. Lovely touch with flowers and a cake to greet us. Great checking in and out instructions.
This is our second visit and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Peaceful, rural retreat in a character property. Everything you can need is there and we will be returning.
"Owners lived nearby and were extremely helpful with a few queries ."
"We had a lovely week at The Hayloft - one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in."
Everything was spotlessly clean, the beds very incredibly comfortable and the whole place had a lovely, warm and cosy feel to it. The space has been really well thought through and created a real sense of space for a family with two teenage boys. The style is relaxed and friendly and the carrot cake was delicious! A really lovely place to stay - would heartily recommend.
"We all enjoyed our stay in this cosy barn conversion ."
Beds very comfortable and bed linen very nice . Dog proof garden . Could have done with white goods instructions for us older ones !
"We stayed at the Hayloft for three nights to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary."
The property is absolutely beautiful, located in an extremely peaceful setting. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and will be looking to return in the near future!
"Gorgeous house in a beautiful part of the country."
"We loved our stay at the Hayloft, it was quirky, and comfortable and very convenient for Ross on Wye and other attractions."
The beds were lovely and the secure garden was fantastic for our dog, we could mostly leave him to potter around knowing that he was secure. Would definitely return.
"We like the quirky aspect of the Hayloft."
The local farm shop (small) near by was a good extra. The garden was dog proof which is very useful! We would definitely stay again.
"Lovely rustic charm."
Only criticism is both toilets are on the ground floor. Beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is very well equipped.
"Jo was very helpful ."
Amazing small farm shop very close with gorgeous goats and lambs to feed. Encouraged to walk through the farm to a Stunning bluebell walk.!
"The cottage has been updated inline with todays normal family requirements 9 dishwasher, wifi etc ) but has managed to retain its character and comfort."
"The Hayloft is very comfortable and has a very well equipped kitchen with everything we needed."
This was our second visit and would definitely stay again. Fresh flowers and some delicious chocolate brownies were a lovely welcoming touch. Thank you.
"This was our first time visiting Herefordshire and The Hayloft proved to be a lovely retreat."
Cosy and warm with lovely interior features. The addition of the fridge freezer and washing machine in the wood shed was most welcome. The property proved to be a great base for exploring the local countryside. We would definitely consider returning here to holiday in the future.
"Great cottage, well equipped."
well situated in quiet village location, but with easy access to Ross. lots of walks to explore the locality with our Springer Spaniel. would recommend.
"We loved the Hayloft."
The furnishings and fittings were very much in keeping with the ethos of the place but nevertheless very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped and worked well. Shower small but size dictated by the building and great to have a shower as well as separate bathroom. We were lucky with weather and spent a lot of time for coffee and lunch in the delightful outside court yard. Separate lodge type edifice in the garden great to keep our bike in and also housing another fridge freezer. Very pleasant walks around the village with lots of footpaths, delightful church building being turned into a community facility. Not dramatic countryside but lots of it and cycle ride into Ross each morning very convenient missing out all main roads. All all, a very clever conversion or rebuild making a super holiday retreat.
"It would have been helpful to have information on the cottage, appliances etc and the local area and contact details of the owner , but the accommodation was charming and we had a great time."
"The accommodation was superb with a friendly and considerate host."
It was very private, tranquil, farming village with lovely walks to Ross On Wye down to the river, or even Hole In The Wall. Such a variety of wildlife to be seen. It is a great place to search further afield and exploring the area. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone seeking a peaceful and relaxing place to reconnect with nature. Lovely - we would definitely stay again.
Lots of character. Comfy beds. Sunny garden. Very peaceful.
"Beautiful cottage, even nicer than it looks in the pictures and very well equipped (I had to Google the type of chopping knives in the kitchen so I can get some myself as they were so good)."
Great location too. We will be back
"The host made us feel very welcome."
The house is stilish, comfortable and very well equipped. We didnt miss anything. It offers enough space for six people. The place makes you feel cozy even if the weather is bad.
"We used the Hayloft as a meeting place to re-unite with our daughter, who is currently in a campervan touring the UK."
The property was ideal, there were 4 of us and 3 little furry friends who all loved the place! There was plenty of room, the beds were comfy, a lovely garden for the dogs to run in and everything that you could want for a long weekend break away. The interior design of the whole property has been done in a rustic quirky way, which is so charming and really suits the property. We can't speak highly enough of it. We were left a delicious cake, flowers and milk. What a great start to our stay!
"We have just returned from a 3 day stay at this wonderful cottage We are a family of 2 adults and two children aged 4 and 6, and we all had a fantastic time."
Most of our time was spent at the cottage which was very well set up with fun and toys for the kids and comfort and relaxation for us. The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable in a lovely quiet village. There was an easy walk down to the river but we turned back once realising how muddy it was following a few days of heavy rain. Would highly recommend this cottage, but maybe not for children younger than 4.
"Cottage and local area is Lovely ."
"Our weekend at The Hayloft was wonderful."
As soon as we arrived we were welcomed by Jo in a lovely friendly manner. We couldn’t have felt more welcomed. The Hayloft was cosy and warm and full of character. It was very well equipped with everything that we needed. We will definitely be booking there again. It’s a perfect little get away.
"Smelt greasy, needs a good clean in kitchen, oven, extractor."
plates, had to wash before use. No comfy seating.
"The house was wonderful."
It was comfortable and very clean. We were made to feel very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.

Jo was very helpful cottage was great there was every thing you needed and places to eat try the penny farthing pub food was great
"The Hayloft exceeded our expectations."
It was warm, cosy and welcoming and we loved the style of decor throughout the barn. Our hosts were extremely welcoming and the lovely cake was highly appreciated after a good walk. Particularly appreciated the quality of the bed linen and the comfort of the mattresses....we will definitely be back (next time with a tandem to check out the many hills surrounding this lovely area). A fabulous, relaxing weekend. Thank you to our kind hosts!!
"This accommodation is listed as not suitable for disabled, but with the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom on the ground floor I thought that it would be fine for us."
However the TV was upstairs, with the easy chairs, in the snug. Fortunately my husband was able to manage the stairs with practise. Also the two steps by the entrance gate were very challenging for him, even at the end of the week. Therefore, if in doubt, don't make the assumption that I did about the ground floor bathroom and bedroom making the property okay for somebody with mobility issues. Putting this aspect aside, we loved the property!
"Very relaxing break, lovely welcome cake and flowers, beautiful garden"
"Lovely cottage, great facilities."
"Jo was fantastic in setting up for us for our 9 month old baby, as well as coming to meet us and giving us helpful tips on where to visit nearby!"
The house is stunning and the garden area is beautiful - we would highly recommend!
"A delightful property, very well equipped and maintained in a lovely rural setting."
A group of 5 friends had a fantastic weekend here catching up.
"The accommodation was quirky but beautiful and Jo was the perfect host."
"The Hayloft is the perfect place to relax."
Cosy, comfortable and equipped with lots of lovely touches that made us feel at home. The log burner was a real treat on chilly April evenings. We enjoyed some good walks straight from the property and there’s plenty to do within a short drive plus good places to eat. My teenagers enjoyed cycling in the forest, the short course at South Hereford golf course and skimming stones as we walked along the river path from Symonds Yat. We hope to return in the summer to make more use of the pretty garden.
"The Hayloft is a quirky little gem."
We had a really relaxing week. In the evening we relaxed downstairs with the log burner ticking away, while the kids chilled upstairs with a film. The owners attention to detail and thoughtful little touches are second to none even down to the little things you often forget to take. The property is perfectly situated to explore the Forest of Dean.
"This small cottage has been renovated and refurbed to such a high standard it made it a real pleasure to stay in."
"The cottage is immaculate and beautifully finished."
The outside area would be great in summer to relax and enjoy a BBQ, also safe for dogs and children The only negative comment is that there needs to be more comfy furniture, maybe another sofa upstairs to relax and more lamps. The weather was not great for us so we spent more time inside that we had hoped to and it was difficult to relax in comfort (and there were only 4 of us). Thanks to the owner for great communication, fresh flowers and cake, lovely gesture.
"Directions to the property were not accurate We met the owner as we were ..."
Directions to the property were not accurate We met the owner as we were leaving and made her aware that we had difficulty in finding the property She has intentions to have you update these
"Our stay in The Hayloft was fantastic, it was really well appointed, with a range of utensils, pots, pans and dishes, everything you might need when staying self-catering, but often don't get."
The beds and bedding were comfortable and spotless, the kids really appreciated the WiFi and Netflix and the whole place was snug and comfortable. Highly recommended.
"The owner left a homemade cake for us on arrival a bottle of water in the fridge, nice and chilled, and some fresh milk."
These were just added touches. The facility was warm and welcoming, there was nothing we needed. So safe for our dog, security light as you walk through the gate are all great touches for a pleasant time at this cottage. Two bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a bath, we were two families so we kind of kept to our own bathroom, excellent place, I would highly recommend and will hopefully go back if we return to the area. Plenty to do in and around if you like castles and walking. Top place, definitely visit.
"The location is great and the dog loved the garden and I didn't have to worry because it's very secure."
Went on a half day canoe trip down the wye which was amazing and only 20 min away. Had a bbq on the second night. warm and cozy with the log burner. A bigger tv and another two seater sofa would have gone down treat!!! (Not a downside just me). Everything perfect thank you very much will return!!
"The Hayloft is a well situated holiday home for exploring the wonderful area around the River Wye."
We enjoyed visits to the Forest of Dean for cycling and canoeing and it was in easy reach for driving into Wales. The accommodation worked well for our mixed age party, teenagers in the tv room upstairs and downstairs seating for chatting/reading, The enclosed garden is a suntrap and would of been nice to use but alas there was too much exploring for us to do on this occasion.
"Perfect place to to relax and unwind."
"The cottage may sleep 6 people but is unsuitable for 6 to sit and be comfortable."
There is only a very old and uncomfortable sofa big enough for 2 people. Everyone else would have to sit in wooden dining chairs. The proprietor was constantly rummaging through the recycling bins and letting herself into the garden area. Made us wonder whether she was entering the property when we were out. To further finish this point, she proceeded to start cleaning the windows at 8.30pm on our last evening, looking in through the kitchen window and invading our privacy. Whilst the cottage is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, it is strangely uncomfortable and I would not recommend to anyone who wants privacy, comfort or peace and quiet as the local tractor rumbled past the house at 6am each morning waking everyone up. Would not recommend unless you fancy a week in a "homes and gardens" magazine house!
"The Hayloft was a beautiful place to stay in the Wye Valley, peaceful yet near Hereford, Ross On Wye and Ledbury."
The property was beautiful and practical, and we particularly enjoyed the bar area to relax after a hard days canoeing! Our dog loved the many walks from the door and we would thoroughly recommend this holiday cottage.
"Owners welcoming and helpful."
Kitchen really well equipped. Great to have a fridge in the outside BBQ and bar area particularly as the weather was so fantastic. Thank you for a lovely stay.
"We had a great family weekend at The Hayloft."
Beautiful accommodation and very comfortable. A lovely blend of modern facilities with rustic charm.
"The Hayloft was fabulous and far surpassed our expectations."
It was warm, cosy and very comfortable. A very nice touch was the cake and welcome provided by Jo the owner. The weather was not brilliant but that didn't matter, we were very happy to hunker down by the fire.
"Beautiful accommodation, beautiful location."

Ross-on-Wye 2 miles.
A fabulous barn conversion dating from the 19th century, in a rural location in the grounds of the owner’s home, close to Ross-on-Wye and The Forest of Dean in the beautiful Wye Valley. The Hayloft has been tastefully and sympathetically renovated using all its original structures in keeping with its surrounding area.
This unique property can offer three lovely bedrooms, and would be suitable for a family or friends who wish to enjoy a peaceful break in this delightful location.
Enter through the large glass sliding door and take in the stylish atmosphere, with a deliberate mixture of vintage and modern furniture and décor, the cottage has made use of its original beams and sleepers, offering a homely yet contemporary feeling.
The open-plan living area offers a dining area upon the dark slate tile flooring, where you can gather for the evening meal, or relax at the breakfast bar with a drink, before retiring to the seating in front of the woodburning stove.
The cottage has the added benefit of a ground-floor bedroom and two ground-floor bathrooms, while two staircases bring you to the rustic first-floor accommodation featuring exposed beams and original slatted timbers.
One set of stairs leads to the king-size room, with the other leading to the twin room and the splendid sitting room which is home to an inviting leather sofa, TV and a selection of books, the perfect place to curl up watching your favourite show or getting lost in a book.
An original door from the sitting room to the larger bedroom is restricted in height, another feature telling the historical story of the property, hence why the owner thoughtfully added the second staircase.
A further individual touch is the outdoor covered seating area, complete with a bar which is the perfect place to relax with friends on a summer evening, unwinding with a refreshing drink.
The Hayloft is situated in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside offering many walking and cycling routes right from your doorstep.
Take a trip to the nearby riverside town of Ross-on-Wye to enjoy the selection of tearooms, pubs and local shops, before continuing to wander alongside the meandering River Wye, keeping your eyes peeled to observe the local wildlife.
For the more adventurous, many outdoor activities can be enjoyed in the surrounding area and the Forest of Dean, such as mountain biking, canoeing, climbing and many more.
The Hayloft is a characterful and querky property, providing beautiful holiday accommodation in a unique style.
Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.
