  • "Excellent for a family get-together."

Only small drawbacks would be small parking area (although there was always space on the road) and another loo would have been useful in morning and evening ‘rush hour’!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and all ages found plenty to see and do in the area.

It is a large house so is ideal for a large family, friends or works group as we were. It is in a great location with a lovely pub and Indian take away opposite and 10 mins away from hiring a kayaking and having a lovely afternoon on the River Wye. All in all would recommend and go back!

  • "There were 15 of us , all adul, who went away for a long weekend, Fri-Mon."

This property exceeded our expectations. Its a beautiful period property .It was exactly as the pictures show it but it looks better in real life! It was very clean, the beds and bedding were excellent and bath sheets provided. The owners had left a large home made cake, fresh eggs and bread and honey for us which was a lovely touch. Plenty of condiments in the cupboard. washing up liquid and dishwasher tabs. Everything has been well thought out. We had everything we needed to make meals for all of us in the kitchen. Large pans and trays, plenty of crockery and glasses. Utensils galore! It was great to have everyone together in the kitchen dinner so no one felt left out when cooking or clearing up. The dishwasher was a God send! There is plenty of room to get away form everyone with 2 lovely lounge areas. One with a TV and one without. The outside space is beautiful with a large table and chairs to sit around and grassed area with gorgeous flowers. . A short stroll to the river. Good local pub nearby, and Indian restaurant just across the road if you don't want to cook! We were all very impressed and are already planning another weekend away here next year. We would highly recommend Viaduct House to anyone wanting a break in the area. The owners reply to messages quickly if you need to contact them. Could not fault it.

The house is lovely and there is plenty of room. Kitchen was kitted out and also had a lush baked cake waiting on arrival. The house is close to the forest of dean which has a number of walks and activities for the children. Fish and chip shop was great also. Overall, we had a lovely time at Viaduct House.

  • "Viaduct house is a great place to stay for people who like entertaining at home and for people who like country activities: there is so much available without driving."

I cannot imagine a more perfect setting for outdoor entertainment in the summer but we did not use in January. The kitchen is perfect for up to 14 people and there is enough crockery, cutlery and glasses for 20. We were greeted with a delicious and giant home-make cake as well as a selection of local produce in a wicker basket. The bedrooms are all of ample size and the combination of double and twin rooms makes the accommodation very flexible. This is all excellent and unusual but it makes being there easy. The sitting rooms only have seats for 7 in the room with the bay window and 4 in the other room, so getting together as a group is a bit of a squeeze. For day to day washing we found the glass programme in the dishwasher the best for crockery, cutlery and glasses straight from the table, the other programmes took hours. There was a broken champagne flute in the sink when we arrived and all of the wine glasses in the cupboard needed washing being clouded with a milky film and two were cracked. Not perfect but hardly a trauma. The shower on the first floor did not drain leaving people standing up to their ankles in water. We bought sink un-blocker and solved that. Perhaps the most important way of working out if we would recommend Viaduct House for a holiday is to let you know that we are looking into booking another week in the summer of 2022, so we can use the outside spaces and the local walks more. Large houses to rent are not easy to find and very few are really capable of accommodating the number they claim in comfort. Viaduct House is good

Coupe of minor issues 1.The garden sadly proved not to be dog secure our resourceful Delilah managed to escape through the back exit protected by a pallet. 2. Although we didn’t really need it all the literature implied more than one tv and there was only one in the smaller lounge. Not a massive problem this trip as we kept ourselves Amused throughout and genuinely had a fantastic Christmas.

Great location for accessing the river Wye and all of its activities. We swam in the river yards from the house! Only down side is the parking - the house is set back from the road and the front of the house was full with local residents cars. We had to leave the cars parked on the verge of a fairly busy road further up the road which actually was fine in the end once we realised. Also the house and gardens both have lots of steps - you need to be reasonably agile!

The configuration of the 8 bedrooms suited our party well, beds were comfortable and linen was to a high standard. More side tables in the two sitting rooms would be an improvement, and having parking for just 1 car necessitating the parking of 4 others on the busy road caused us concern.

Great open air facilities nearby, bike rental, canoeing, Go Ape, walks etc. Viaduct House provides very comfortable accommodation. The owners have gone out of their way to make sure that renters have everything they could need. Note that there are 13 worn stone steps from the gate to the front door mostly without a hand hold. We had to keep rebooting. The house was lovely, garden well kept, facilities all worked. Cleanliness not at top marks as oven smoked when using. Not clean, cutlery tray should be cleaned out and cobwebs on ceilings, damp mold in back rooms 3rd floor. These are all minor and generally better than other places I have stayed. Improvement on these few minor items would make this house win top marks. Everything else was excellent. Beds were best I have stayed on by far which made a big impact. Carpets and under furniture was clean, usually missed by other places I have stayed. Ample facilities, plates cups, fire wood, white goods all very good. Everyone enjoyed their stay.

We really enjoyed our stay. Lovely spacious bedrooms with crisp clean sheets and duvets. A generous welcome basket of bread, butter, honey, fresh eggs, a three tiered gorgeous lemon cake and cookies! Plenty of milk and thoughtful essentials. The reception rooms and kitchen were of good size and had lovely wood burners with all you need to hand, to get a roaring fire going. Showers and bath had excellent water pressure and were enough for our party of 16. We made good use of the very convenient pub across the road, who had friendly staff and local recommendations. It is useful to know there are a number of steps up to the house, if travelling with people with mobility issues. There are beautiful and convenient walks by the river or up to where the old viaduct was. Conveniently placed for symonds yat, a short drive away. Great for dog owners. All that you need was supplied. Would definitely recommend.

We were a (fairly dignified) group of hens aged 40-80 on a hen weekend & had a fabulous time. The beds are comfy with beautiful linen which was so appreciated (too many self catering places skip bed & bedlinen quality & it’s false economy). The huge kitchen with a table for 12 had everything we needed (& more) not to mention a gorgeous basket of fresh bread, scones, butter & jam which were devoured with gusto by us all. Thank you for providing a wonderful place for guests which I’d recommend in a heartbeat.

Really well equipped and clean. Garden is beautiful and secure for dogs. No problems with the heating, toasty warm all the time, and the hot water just kept coming (very rare for these big houses in my experience) Only 2 slight negatives for us - there is only parking for 1 car. We had 7! However we did manage to find space on the road outside ok. And there are two lounges, neither one large enough to accommodate our group of 16 altogether, so we had to improvise a bit and be happy to sit on the floor. we had a wonderful week and would definitely recommend to others.
