"We had a lovely stay here."
Great for accessing Rutland waters. We weren’t bothered by the traffic at all. Had a few problems. The single beds were made up as double & WiFi didn’t work both sorted out by hotel staff. All the staff were lovely. We ate at the hotel had a great meal. Downside the property wasn’t very clean, hairs in the shower, stains on the sofa & stains on the cushions. All in desperate need of replacing or at least cleaning. However, we still enjoyed our stay but probably try one of the other cabins next time.

"Couple of things."
To in the lounge was temperamental in its tuning which did not occur in the bedroom. Instructions on clearing accommodation seems a general rule in the small print don’t think it’s right to be expected to strip bedding and pile all together when paying what we paid for a week. 4500 a month is 50 k a year. The items when arriving could be adjusted been some places for less where at least some bread or a small pint of milk are left. Quiet area nice getaway logograms useful although evening food expensive and small menu for a week. Food flavoursome nicely presented however.

"Great property but position let’s it down."
Backing onto the road and hotel across the road- can hear traffic ( wasn’t helped with location of temp lights) Also Christmas party and wedding celebrations could hear inside and at night when trying to sleep

"One of the Table Lamps didn't work - it may have just been the bulb needed replacing."
We reported this to the Barnsdale Lodge Hotel but nobody came to look at it while we were there. That was the only fault we found. Other than that the Lodge was well equipped, very clean, comfortable and in a very peaceful location & in a good position for all the walks we wanted to do. A lovely holiday and we would stay here again.

"Except for the standard of cleaning on arrival everything else was first class"

"Great lodge 2nd time we’ve visited."
Fantastic for walks with the dog also. Wanted to book again for same week next year to find price had virtually doubled. Such a shame, we’re very disappointed. Price is too expensive for this type of accommodation.

"Perhaps more crockery, mugs etc."
, and responsibility for tracking quantities of each falling to the owners rather than handing us an inventorty and asking us to count each. Wine fridge wasn't working and reported on first day and told someone would come over later and take a look. Nothing happened though. Walk in shower wasn't usable because of the water spillage to the whole bathroom. Don't want to sound negative beacuse it was a lovely cottage and we really enjoyed our time there overall.

"Ticencote Lodge was all that we had hoped and expected it to be."
The furnishings were country casual style/design and the overall finish was most attractive. The living, dining, eating area was well served with plenty of cupboard space, an area for shoes and coats and overall very well appointed. Having the lodge within a few minutes walk of the lovely Barnsdale Lodge Hotel was the best of both worlds. Somewhere to pop across for a drink before cooking in the kitchen at the lodge but with the option of dinner at the hotel that we enjoyed on a couple of occasions, one being Sunday lunchtime. Unlike a hotel room, the lodge meant with only the two of us plenty of space to stretch out, a bathroom and shower room meant no sharing needed! The area of Rutland Water is beautiful and we enjoyed a relaxed week in delightful surroundings. We almost never return to the same place twice as we love to discover new areas but I have a strong feeling that we will aim to return to a Rutland Reatreat lodge at a different time of year.

"These Rutland retreats are fabulous."
Excellent facilities. Great staff at the hotel. Fabulous food in the hotel. Must advise customers that you can park your car outside your chosen retreat. The local area has many attractions. Rutland water is beautiful as are the surrounding towns and villages. Rutland Water is a bird watchers paradise. Children would enjoy visiting the many visitors centres located around this reservoir.

"The second bedroom is more suitable for children than two adults."
There is only a bedside two drawer chest, a very narrow wardrobe and some open shelving for guests to put there clothing and accessories. Very cramped conditions spoilt an otherwise ideal lodge. The telephone was said to be out of order and away to be fixed, but would be returned to the lodge on Monday. It wasn’t and was subsequently found on a shelf in the cleaning cupboard. Is it that the hotel did not want us to use it?

"Really enjoyed Tickencote."
please note. twin beds were made up as a double! Your info said it would be made up as a twin unless otherwise requested. But we found that room too claustrophobic anyway so we managed in the double room. My husband is disabled and single beds are easier. But we managed OK. A nice touch was the freshly washed dog bed and water dish for our Jack Russell....nice touch. 5 star accommodation. Tricia F Knowles

"The lodge had everything you could need for a holiday break."
It was warm, very comfy and well equipped. Ideally situated near Rutland water, had great walks with our dog and also explored a lot of the surrounding villages. Ate at the hotel on our last night as they offered a 20% discount which was very welcome and they also allowed our dog in. Food was excellent. This was a perfect place to spend a weeks holiday and we would have no hesitation in recommending this lodge.

"Excellent lodge with everything there on site to have a relaxing time"

"The pictures on of Tickencote Lodge that I saw on your website don't do it justice."
The grounds that the lodges are in are kept neat and tidy, the gravel is raked regularly, and the interiors of the lodges are excellent. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and I received immediate service to remedy a broken door handle and blown lightbulbs. We used our satnav to get to Barnsdale Lodge but when we were about 100 or so yards away it sent us left instead of right at a T junction, it would be good if this could be remedied. We had a lovely week and would stay there again without hesitation.

"Lovely well appointed lodge, great location with access to hotel bar and restaurant."
Staff in hotel helpful and friendly.

"Everything lovely but only downfall is the road noise so it was not enjoyable sitting out in the sun."
There are two busy roads on two sides of the property. We would possibly go again if we got a cottage in the farthest corner away.

About the location
EXTON, RUTLAND
Stamford 7.8 miles; Melton Mowbray 14.4 miles
Exton offers a typical English village setting, with its traditional, stone buildings crowded around the green, in the East Midlands county of Rutland. The Fox and Hounds public house overlooks the tree-planted green, a former 17th century coaching inn, oozing with character, offering cosy winter evenings around the fireplace and lazy summer days out in the beer garden. To the south of the village are Barnsdale Gardens, created by Geoff Hamilton for the BBC's Gardeners' World, and the Barnsdale Hall Hotel and Country Club. Oakham is the nearest town, boasting a combination of stone and thatched buildings, a range of shops, as well as pubs, bars and eateries to choose from. There is also a local history museum, a 12th century castle and a 14th century church. The Rutland Water Nature Reserve offers watersports, a small water adventure park, birdwatching, a sailing club and fishing opportunities, with the Rutland Water Golf Course overlooking the lake. The train station provides access to the cities of Nottingham and Leicester with shops to browse and architecture to admire. The market town of Stamford is a mere stone's throw away, with its attractive Georgian-style buildings used in the 2005 Pride & Prejudice film, independent shops, cosy pubs and a range of restaurants. Melton Mowbray is further afield, with more amenities to explore. Home to the famous pork pie, this town also offers The Regal Cinema, Melton Theatre and the Melton Carnegie Museum. The village of Exton offers a warm and friendly atmosphere for the perfect holiday exploring the East Midlands.
