Well appointed with a well equipped kitchen. Comfortable, cosy and clean. This has been our 5th visit so must be good!! Great location! Plenty of walks from the cottage and a short drive to Dartmoor and areas of interest. The Drake Manor Inn is a stone’s throw away (literally) with great food and friendly staff. We shall return again as soon as we can!!

  • "Buckland Monachorum is a great base for a Devon holiday, close to Western Dartmoor, the Tavy and Tamar valleys, various National Trust properties and the Route 27 coast-to-coast walking & cycling route."

Best of all, the fabulous Drake Manor Inn is just down the road and open for excellent food and drink seven days a week. The cottage is very cosy and clean, comfortably and interestingly furnished and has probably the best equipped kitchen of anywhere I’ve stayed in. It’s on the main street of the village but very quiet. There’s a beautiful garden - it wasn’t outdoor breakfast weather when we stayed, but we did enjoy getting the woodburner going. Garth the cottage owner lives in the village and was on hand and very helpful with any query. We had a lovely week and hope to come back.

Great comments. Glad you had a good stay despite the occasional storm! G. Property Owner

We received a very warm welcome and collected the keys easily. The cottage was in a great location for accessing many nearby attractions and it was very helpful having a dedicated parking space. We did find the water in the shower to be very hot, but once we'd found a comfortable temperature it was fine. We'd happily stay again and will be recommending to others looking to stay in the area.

Beautiful cottage in a gorgeous Devon village. It was perfect in every way. Cosy, extremely well appointed and a real home from home. It’s a lot bigger inside than it looks from the outside and the garden is just lovely for those alfresco meals with or sitting quietly with a coffee. There is a wonderful pub in the village for drinks and food a very short walk away if you want to eat out. Location is brilliant for the moor and local walks and sightseeing. Just wonderful. If I could give it 10 stars I would!!

Thanks so much for your comments Lisa, so glad you had a great time and lucky with the weather. See you again soon. Garth. Property Owner

There are plenty of good walks to be found within a 20 min drive. Although it has only a small frontage on the street, the rear of the cottage has been extended and the property is surprisingly spacious. It has been finished to a high standard and is comfortable and well equipped. The Drake Inn is only 100m away and the food and local ales are excellent. The cottage is highly recommended and we will look to return in the future.

The owners are on hand if needed and very friendly and hospitable. The only two suggestions for improvement we would make are: 1. Consider installing a blackout blind in the little bedroom - the sun shines right through first thing in the morning. 2. Consider putting a larger sofa in the living room. It was impossible for the three of us to sit together as the sofa only fits two.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at no. 11. 'Home from home' is all I can say - you will not be disappointed with your stay here. The owners were on hand but gave you privacy at the same time. Lovely to sit on the patio in the rear garden in view of the local church. Buckland Monachorum is a quiet village with walking distance to the pub! Book your Sunday lunch when you arrive on the Friday night - you wont be disappointed! Dont miss out on nearby 'The Garden House' - a true gem of a place with beautiful plants. Easy acess to both the Moors and Plymouth made this a great location for exploring the area. We also enjoyed the local rivers and walks. Comfy beds, plenty hot water, heating when required, very clean and comfortable place to stat. Parking was not an issue - there was always a space in the carpark opposite if you couldnt park outside the house. Only downside was we had to go home! Would love to go back!

This pleasent man supplied a bottle of milk and packet of biscuits for our first cup of tea which was very enjoyable sat in the back garden in the sun unwinding after our 200 mile journey. The cottage was well equipped with cooker, microwave ,large fridge freezer, plenty of crockery/cutlery and glassware etc.TV reception was good but wifi/internet/phone was patchy occasionally.(Hooray --- no phone calls from relatives etc.) There were leaflets and guides for various places to visit, etc Historical houses and National Trust properties were in easy travel distance but the park and ride at the George was welcome for a day in central Plymouth. The Drake pub was just down the street, good food etc short walking distance./Garth was also the landlord. A nice quiet pleasent holiday, hoping the Sept holiday will be as good.

Com with no issues. Had 2 telephone calls from Sykes - 1 call to obtain my email details where the member of staff was very offhand because I asked why you needed the information what you would do with it. The 2nd call was the day AFTER we had moved in to confirm the key collection details and contact point for the house owner. We had already been in the property for 24 hours. Its a good job that booking.com gave us all the information. Your staff seemed to be ticking a box to confirm they had actioned something without checking the details first and being unable to answer questions. The house itself was perfect and this feedback is solely about Sykes.

The WOW factor on entering the living room, with its log burning stove and well thought out mood lighting, was a great place to unwind with a bottle of wine in the evenings. Well, every evening actually! The kitchen: I have never seen a rented accommodation with such an array of high quality appliances, especially the cooker. It's the same make as ours but with one more burner (6) and a warming plate. Great fun! The double bed has a mattress that started sorting out my back pain on night one, so we're off to John Lewis today to buy one like it. Overall, a very good stay in a quiet location on the Moors and ideally placed to visit the well known spots of Devon and Cornwall. Just a hundred yards away, there is an excellent pub, the Drake Inn. Fresh local beers and very, very good food. The property owners are close by if help is needed, and they are genuinely helpful. If we were to be ultra picky, the kitchen needs more plug sockets but that really is it! Ella and Cliff

A couple of tiny things to be aware of – there was no phone signal in the house – though it was fine from the car park across the road & the cottage has wifi so not a problem for us, plus the very last bit of the road to the village is quite narrow (ie with passing places) – but in Devon most of the best places seem to be down the narrowest of roads (Cotehele is 20 times worse than the Buckland road!).
