  • "A comfortable spacious character 2 bedroom cottage in a beautiful peaceful location in the Dartmoor National Park…."

Almost next to Haytor. The cottage was very clean and well equipped. We spent a very relaxing week there and found so many places to explore nearby. Becky Falls and Bovey Stacey are just a couple of miles down the road. The Moorland Hotel is a very short walk from the cottage and has a nice Brasserie and restaurant if you don’t want to drive far in the evening. A great holiday location.

  • "This holiday cottage has everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay but its biggest feature is the location."

A beautiful view over the valley and the sea on one side of the property and Dartmoor on the doorstep on the other side. There is easy access to many Devon attractions and Bovey Tracey has three supermarkets and a range of interesting shops to explore. We loved being able to go out for a walk on the moor after dinner in the evening. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and I really enjoyed cooking on the induction hob and having a choice of ovens. We stayed for two weeks and the bed change and clean mid way was really appreciated. Thank you! Although the weather wasn't great we had a fabulous holiday and made the most of the facilities in the cottage and the beautiful surrounding Devon countryside.

  • "A comfortable and very well equipped cottage in an ideal position."

The upside down nature of the cottage resulted in the bedrooms remaining cool even in the hottest days. Easy walking to an excellent pub (Rock Inn) where we had a great Sunday lunch and the Moorland hotel for evening meals. Easy walks (I am 85) from the cottage to Haytor, Saddle Tor , Haytor Quarry (a beautiful peaceful place with the ponds especially early in the morning) and the fascinating tramway. Also idea for visits to Dartmoor villages, river walks, Buckfast Abbey, Buckland Abbey, Castle Drago and the wonderful garden at The Garden House. I thank the owner for the delicious Bakewell Tart and for milk, condiments etc. We had a great week at Ludgate Cottage.

Sofas are tired, had to use cushions to make comfortable. Induction cooker works but it takes some getting use to. Other than those, we will be back sometime in the future.

Thanks for your feedback. The sofas were replaced 3 years ago, so they are not considered 'tired' - glad you found them comfortable though. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable."

The useful information folder was welcome, lots of cottages seem not to bother with this anymore but it’s a real help. With children we tend to eat in, and the lovely big kitchen made this an easy option. Also nice to have a full size freezer. Plenty of crockery and cutlery. The children loved the beds and sofas, they were very also very comfortable. The cottage is also well situated in a beautiful location up on Dartmoor but within easy access to nearby towns and coast, so lots of options for different outings. It is very rural so you need to drive with care , we had lots of encounters with ponies , cows and sheep on and off the roads. This added to the children’s pleasure! Lots of games ,DVDs, books available in cottage for wet days are a nice touch. Wi-Fi worked very well. We would certainly consider a return visit and would thoroughly recommend.

  • "OK, since you insist on feedback!"

We obviously like this place as this was our third stay, so, keep my feedback in perspective. However, the TV was quite annoying in that so many Sky channels are displayed but none of them were available. The channel choice is very limited. Of course, one doesn't go on holiday to watch TV but.. this is 2022 and it would be good to have some choice when you do. (Oh.. new trays might be an idea?) Everything else was great thanks. SW.

Ideal position for walking or getting to Dartmoor tourist sites as well as being close to towns such as Bovey Tracey and Newton Abbot.

  • "Lovely clean and tidy cottage within the Dartmoor National Park."

Nice open feel to the upstairs lounge, kitchen spacious and well equipped. Were 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 young children and it was a perfect size. Cottage was spotless when we arrived. Beds were comfortable and everyone slept like a log. Can walk right on to the moor. Becky Falls and Bovey Tracey open air pool 10 mins away. Lots of fabulous beaches within a leisurely 45-50 mins drive. Suited us to be based away from the beach areas with a nice journey back to the moor. Would recommend Ludgate Cottage to anyone. Would happily return and hope to do so

  • "What a wonderful place to stay for a holiday on the moor."

Clean, cosy, comfortable. A well laid out holiday cottage, good sized bedrooms, great well-equipped kitchen and an airy and well lit sitting room. The owners have taken time and care in making this an ideal place to base a getaway from busyness and stress. Everything worked and was easy to use with good instructions. It was great to leave the car safely parked and just cross over the road and onto the moor for a stroll up to Haytor rocks and beyond. On the Sunday we went up to Widecombe church where we received a warm welcome and then back to the cottage for lunch followed by a walk over to the medieval village at Hound Tor. A good place for an excellent meal after a walk near Widecombe is the Ruddlestone Inn, where the atmosphere and food is excellent. We would have loved to stay for a further week if it had been possible. Long may Ludgate Cottage continue to be a lovely place to come to for future visitors and their families.

Disappointed to find we were holidaying next to two building sites, subsequent noise and workers vans and other vehicles parking in our 'private' garden. We should have been made aware of this. Apart from this we enjoyed this area of the moors. If and when we return will probably find another cottage.

The bed and the linen was a high standard. Extremely well equipped kitchen with modern appliances. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday despite the weather. Lovely walks from the cottage so no need to use the car too much. We were so glad we were able to use the heating as it was very cold for June. The only constructive comment would be that it would be helpful to have a grab handle to assist getting in and out of the shower.

All across the road from the cottage. Many other attractions within driving distance. I wouldn't say the house was suitable for very young children or older unfit people, because of the stairs leading to the living quarters (it's upside down). But it did have the most comfy bed, I have ever slept in!

Disappointed there wasn't even a pint of milk this year. Name of caretaker and contact number was incorrect. Dishwasher covered the crockery in a film we couldn't remove so couldn't use it. New settees are even worse than the old ones. You are nearly on the floor. I finally found the details for the property manager but she couldn't get the dw repaired in time. Also there are no details as to the recycling arrangements. The cottage is very clean and well equipped but things need checking up on.

The beds were extremely comfortable, and there was a good-sized, well-equipped kitchen and dining area, which included everything we needed. But the star of the show was the location.
