  • "Hurdwick Lodge was everything we hoped it would be, lovely rooms, everything we needed for our Christmas celebrations."

We would recommend the lodge 10 out of 10.

  • "Hurdwick Lodge was a perfect venue for our mid-winter break - surrounded by beautiful parkland and with stunning views across west Devon but only a few minutes drive from the bustle of Tavistock town centre."

Jo and Martin were perfect hosts and they have clearly paid close attention to detail in furnishing and equipping this spacious and very comfortable property.

  • "The lodge was perfect for us and the views were beautiful."

The location too was good being just out of Tavistock and near excellent shopping facilities. The owners looked after us and the welcome pack was most welcome. We would certainly look to book again when we next visit the area. Thank you so much for a lovely two weeks.

  • "Hurdwick Lodge is situated on a beautiful one time golf course and enjoys views across a valley."

It is ideal for access to north and south coasts and of course Dartmoor (go to the prison Museum). The property is very well equipped and our party of eight enjoyed their stay very much. We found three very good places to eat, Peter Tavy Inn (park in the village Hall car park - the Landlord has an arrangement}, Walkhampton Inn and Drake Manor Inn Yelverton (park in front of school at the top of the village) All have very good food and atmosphere! The owners of Hurdwick Lodge are very welcoming and are on hand if needed. We recommend this property.

  • "Wonderful property on the edge of Dartmoor, looking across open countryside with hardly a house in view yet within 5 minutes drive of Tavistock."

A warm house with a friendly welcome.

Thank you Keith! Hope to see you both again! Property Owner

  • "Great Cottage."

Fantastic views, loved the privacy and the Herdwick Sheep. It was idyllic on the Saturday and Sunday with complete silence only interrupted by birds, it was so relaxing. But being a working farm there was some noise weekdays but it did not unduly disturb us. Great lounge area and cooking area. Wish I had brought some filtered coffee with me as there is a coffee machine. Wonderful walk in shower, really missed that when I got home. The only criticism I would make and is really a personal thing I guess and what we are used to when we stay at other venues was that not all of the bedrooms were made up. There are 4 bedrooms and only 2 adults stayed so the best 2 rooms were made up. I am used to all of the rooms being made up so the guests can choose their bedrooms, stripping the bed linen from those beds that have been slept in at the end of the stay, mattresses are a personal taste so it could be that a less luxurious room is chosen as the mattress is deemed to be more comfortable. The other thing that would be useful and we have had some issues at other venues is the Rubbish, until we get a National Recycling system in place it is difficult to know how to dispose of the rubbish so perhaps a more detailed explanation of what goes where could be provided. Why Cardboard and Paper is separated in Devon is beyond me! And a really positive thing about this cottage is that the lovely owners live next door. So if you do have an issue you can speak to them. Herdwick Cottage is very near to Tavistock, literally a 4 minute drive. So, we will almost certainly come here again to see relatives and friends. A friend of ours came to see us and she loved the place and will be looking to book this for a Family Reunion as their house is not large enough.

Thanks for your review - a new venture for us so all taken on board! All beds will be made up and more detailed recycling info will be included in the information folder. Hope to see you again! Property Owner

Very well equipped and a pleasure to use. Bath upstairs was well used by us all! The property was so convenient to Tavistock, which was lovely to look around. We also loved the peaceful surroundings, it was much appreciated to unwind and relax. We would love to come back!

  • "Beautiful property with lots of space for all of us."

Really enjoyed the views and weather watching!! Extremely handy for so many sights and walks. Tavistock is a great town with lots of facilities and there are lots of exhilarating walks on the Western Moor. The house was well equipped and the friendly owners live next door in case of any query so a really lovely place to unwind.

  • "Absolutely fantastic property."

We have stayed at many properties over the last 35 years and this is definitely one of our favourites. Superbly equipped, very tranquil. Great location, set in park land (an ex golf course) and just the sounds of birds, very gentle baa-ing of sheep and occasional moo-ing of cows in the distance. Incredibly relaxing. Saw some beautiful sunsets, and watched the fox one night from the picnic table outside the property. Very friendly owners close by if needed but left us alone if not. Ideally located for Dartmoor, the Tors, many of which we climbed, and also East Cornwall. And Tavistock is only a mile or so if you need a town, supermarkets, takeaways etc for supplies or anything else. We didn't want to leave!

Lovely review from our first guests - thanks so much! Property Owner
