"We had a lovely stay and the flat had everything we needed."
The only things I would say that were slightly bad is that it needs a bit of TLC. We found a screwdriver and fixed the door out to the terrace as the screws had come loose. The main bedroom door handle also feels like it will come off soon, quite loose. Otherwise a lovely apartment with a great view

"This is a lovely property with great views !"
Very comfortable. We really had a lovely holiday. Will be back.
-
"Hazeldene was set up perfectly for our 5 night stay in Salcombe."
The views from the large main window and balcony are outstanding.
-
"We had a really nice week at this well equipped and comfortable apartment and expect to return next year."

Bed very hard having stayed 8 times now at hazeldene it must be a new hard mattress It’s about time the flat had a make over as looking tired Parking ok but better for a small car as tight to get it in Key arrangement much better now than going to the office at Salcombe This is probably or last visit to the property as steps are getting harder to manage

"The location of the property and the views were excellent."
Although we were warned about the scaffolding, it did detract somewhat from the holiday, e.g. the balcony was very crowded and the bars did spoil the view. The balcony and outside furniture was also dirty, probably from the work. The surface of the dining table was tacky, even after wiping with a damp cloth. Some of the crockery and oven ware was not clean. We washed anything we used prior to using it. The only things we really missed were a hand brush and oven gloves. If they were there, we couldn't find them! Also there was no information booklet about the accommodation or local area.

"We were delighted with 1 Hazeldene, and will certainly book this property again, and recommend it to family and friends."
The flat was immaculately clean, light and airy, and everything we could have wanted was provided.

"This was our 3rd stay here."
The location is excellent for North Sands and Salcombe (with steep hills, but this the area). Parking is brilliant and bedrooms/bathrooms/lounge are spacious with accurate listing. The heating is fantastic and the view from the lounge is absolutely stunning. However, we need to honest and things need addressing (we probably should have done this last year) Getting the mats off the dining table was a ongoing physical challenge (we did query this cleanliness with Sykes before our stay, after we had the same problem last year and seeing other reviews and were assured of the cleanliness). The table needs replacing. We contacted Sykes early in the trip as there was/is a constant bleeping in the lounge/kitchen. They came quickly and noted it was the fridge/freezer. It was stated the owners were happy to order another one, but then no further contact from the the Tues to when we left. This was unresolved and a week of bleeping. There is damp in the 2nd bedroom with black mold on the curtain lining, beds smelt of mothballs. The ensuite net curtain was black in parts, the extractor fan in the main bathroom has yellow liquid dripping onto the toilet, no idea what this was! Wallpaper is starting to peel off the walls. Really sorry for the negative review, but it does need addressing as we were very disappointed. Sykes, we have photos if you want to see them.
Many thanks for your feedback, although we were concerned to read that the property was not satisfactorily presented prior to your arrival. As you will appreciate, we work very hard with our owners and housekeepers to ensure high standards are maintained, so it is very disappointing to read these comments. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. We are grateful for the comment in respect of the overall appearance of the property and will pass on your feedback to the owners. We do hope that you had an enjoyable holiday in spite of the issues raised and look forward to welcoming you back to Salcombe in the not too distant future. Property Owner

Nice location just let down by slight smell of damp in second bedroom and the extractor fan in bathroom needs upgrading it took most of the day to clear moisture away after 2 showers

"This is our second visit to 1 Hazeldene."
The property is in a fantastic location with great views but this year came with a significant price increase and the flat really needs some TLC now. It’s has all the basics, but is looking a bit tired. The flat was cleaned to a basic standard but wasn’t spotlessly clean and we cleaned it further on arrival. Overall a lovely stay but for this year’s price we are unlikely to re-book the same property.

"Comfortable flat, although it is a small kitchen area for 2 of us we managed well."
we enjoyed our stay there, and hope to book again. on a negative side, the oven needs cleaning, which is common with self catering properties. The double bed is comfortable, but the bed linen needs replacing, as do the table and place mats on the dining table. the mat in the lounge is a trip hazzard. These are small issues which are easily rectified.
-
"In general the flat needs a good clean, especially at the start of a new season."
I think the lounge in particular needs the carpet cleaned. The rug also is in a poor state. It has been like this for many years. The hall radiator is not working so the flat was not as warm as usual. I think most people would agree.

"Great stay, but you need to be resable fit for stairs to apartment, but worth the view"
Thank you for leaving us your feedback. We were pleased to read you enjoyed your visit to 1 Hazeldene. Many thanks for bringing the layout of the complex to our attention. The steep hill is detailed on our website in the properties red notes. We look forward to welcoming you back to Salcombe and its stunning views soon. Property Owner

"I got fed up of emails 2 before visit 2 while on visit 1 text I know some people would leave place un clean but got a bit fed up of you keep on reminding me to leave it clean How do you clean with no equipment?"
Not that I should have to make it any better than when I arrived Difficult for you to clean windows and mirrors and tv ? Hope to visit next time without constant reminder to clean up

"Salcombe is very pleasant but the first part of the walk into town ( a steep footpath was too much for me."
This, along with the 39 steps to the property ( down then up) makes it unsuitable for people with mobility issues. I have arthritic knees and it made life difficult for me. The flat itself is very nice indeed, has a stunning view, loads of storage space and comfy beds. It was clean and well equipped except the oven floor was dirty from previous cooking as was the grill pan (I didn't use these) There was no grill shelf/rack part to rest food on anyway, which was annoying. The showers both worked well but in the separate bathroom the drain in the shower did not drain well and it meant the tray filled with water before the first person had finished, so a second shower would make the water flood over the rim onto the floor. I checked to see if the drain was clogged with hair but it didn't seem to be. This needs attention. I would recommend 1 Hazeldene to younger fitter people who could cope with the steep climb back up to the flat, but not people my age unless good walkers. The parking space is extremely awkward and we had to ask another resident to move their car on one occasion.

"Lovely basic, clean, comfortable accommodation as a base to explore."

"The apartment met our needs for the three of us but overall was a bit tired, especially in the kitchen."
There was no dishwasher so don't bring tablets. No washing machine but we discovered a communal laundry room by the garage not mentioned in the instructions. That had a key safe for 1 Hazeldene but we had no code so not able to use it. For a family with children it would be useful but for us (3adults) it wasn't needed. It was convenient to be able to walk into Salcombe in the evening. Shame about the very steep hill to climb every time! It would be more convenient to have a key safe for the apartment to save all the driving in to collect the key at the start & end of the holiday. Salcombe is choked enough with traffic, August must be even worse. Parking slot for 1 Hazeldene is tight. Lovely sunsets from the balcony in the evening.
-
"One or two small snags noted."
The "vanity mirror" light in the separate bathroom no longer works. Not able to properly close and lock any of the windows. Remote control for TV has a mind of its own; working quickly & perfectly in mornings, hardly at all in the evening! Kettle quicker to boil for hot washing up water than running the hot tap - in ANY basin! Please note that this flat does NOT have a dishwasher, so no dishwasher tablet required! Everything else fine, thanks. Oh, new stair carpet would be a very good idea, before someone trips on the holes in the present one!
Many thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. We are sorry that you had a few issues during your stay. We have passed your comments onto our maintenance team who will rectify these issues. We do hope you had an enjoyable stay despite these matters. We do hope you will use us again in the near future. Property Owner

"The apartment was a lot bigger than expected with amazing sea views ."
The walk into Salcombe was enjoyable for us a family because we love exercise. We would definitely recommend the house.
-
"A very comfortable and well located flat for the beach."
Basic facilities with average decor but suits our needs. We have happily been using this flat for the last seven years but disappointed with continued increase in rental price which is especially high for next year. An upgrade in facilities is needed to justify this increase especially in the kitchen area. That aside it is a cosy and lovely little flat suitable for both families and couples.
-
"Lovely holiday apartment with everything you could possibly need."
The photos do not show the other bathroom which has a lovely large shower and is very modern. We used this one throughout our stay. There is also now a window seat in the living room which I spent considerable time sitting on watching the amazing views it offered. The garden of the property leads to a footpath which is 2 mins walk to the beach one way or 15-20 mins flat walk to the town the other way. I will say that the footpath is pretty steep so not suitable for disabled but we went with our 6 year old son who managed with no problems at all. It was perfect for us as we wanted a holiday without the need to drive anywhere and this is exactly what the location of this apartment provided. Thanks again for a fabulous stay- we’re planning our return already.

"Lovely clean and bright flat with a fabulous view (that you need to make more of in the brochure!"
)
-
"The house in which the flat is in was in an elevated position which meant a very steep climb which ever way we went out, this was not represented in the description."
Also the garden was on a considerable slope which was impossible to sit on.apart from these comments the flat was very good
-
"We had a very relaxing break."
I did park on the road below the property as the parking place allocated was very difficult to get in and out of. This did not in any way spoil the holiday, as we did not use the car very often. We really enjoyed finding the short cut to the road below the property, which led to an easy, flat walk into Salcombe.

"Previously stayed at property so knew what to expect regarding cleanliness, facilities and comfort."
First occasion when bed linen, etc. provided which was added bonus.
-
"The apartment was great, superb location within walking distance to both town and beaches."
-
"We love No."
1 Hazeldene. It is very well situated, appointed and cosy and well priced for Salcombe, where is becoming evermore expensive to stay!
-
"As always very good but a further increase in price would be beyond the value of the standard of the property"
-
"Lovely clean tidy apartment."
It was in a quiet area with a sea view in easy reach of beach and town centre. It had everything we needed.
-
"Lovely accommodation, good views, comfortable rooms and well kept"
-
"Lovely clean and bright spacious apartment."
Superb views and location. Slightly dated but that reflects the price. The walk into Salcombe is picturesque. Overall good value for money.
-
"Apartment much larger than expected with views to die for."
-
"Excellent location, comfortable and adequate for our requirements."
-
"Delightful little flat, amazing views, great location."
Decoration in places is dated, but not to detriment of our stay.
-
"Carpets need replacing as getting very grubby the whole place could do with a paint but good as usual"
-
"Very pleasant, well-appointed, bright & clean flat in an excellent position above North Sands."
Lovely big double bedroom with a beautiful view & balcony and extremely comfortable twin room. MUCH nicer than I was expecting and v good value. Unmade-up beds annoying (these days) and it's not worth hiring as I was amazed that the hire co don't make up the beds! Car park treacherous for anything other than a v small car & difficult even then. We decided to park on the road below and walk up from the bottom gate - MUCH easier.
-
"Shower good, Rooms good."
Views spectacular. A little way to walk into town but this was positive to reduce waistlines and increase fitness! Best thing was that this year there was a washing machine and dryer, vital when sailing every day producing wet clothes. Great to get them dried
-
"Comfortable flat though rather dated."
Good position
-
"Returning to the flat which once was my boarding school was an amazing experience."
Flat was very comfortable
-
"We have stayed in a number of flats in Hazeldene over the last 20 years and Flat 1 is the best in terms of quality, value for money and location with such great views."
The owners have provided a very well equipped flat and have made improvements which have made the flat even better. We feel relaxed as soon as we arrive here and will definitely be back again.
-
"Lovely apartment in fantastic position with amazing views."
This was our third visit and we will look forward to returning.
-
"Great flat with wonderful views, has everything that you need, parking a little problematic"
-
"Comfortable apartment with lovely views."
Only problem was the parking area, which was quite small and awkward to manoeuvre in. A lift would have been useful when coming back with shopping - but otherwise everything was good - en suite in main bedroom was a bonus.
-
"Very nice appartment with excellent view of the sea and beach oven should be renewed"
-
"Nice new bed and great mattress."
Still would like black out blinds in main bedroom. Overall homely as ever but I think the beige carpet is reaching the end of its clean looking years :-)
-
"Good value, a nice apartment with great views"
-
"Slightly tired but excellent views and accommodation was just right for us - we had a wonderful time at the property."
-
