10 Customer Reviews

  • "Lovely property, very well equipped with everything you could need."

Loved the hot water tap in the kitchen. Bed was very comfortable lovely quilt and pillows. Property had been cleaned to a high standard. Had initial problem with Front door lock and fridge not working however Coast and Country sorted it out very quickly for us, excellent customer service ! Would recommend some instructions for other guests on how to lock the front door, found it tricky ! Only small criticism was, the bulbs need replacing in the fridge and oven not sure if owners are aware, and we felt it would be nice to have blinds on the front windows downstairs, although not overlooked feel a little exposed at night as people do walk past the property. Would be nice to have the privacy, Good location about 10 minutes walk into Salcombe, but very steep hill to climb on the way home, wouldn't recommend for anyone with mobility issues.

  • "We had a great stay."

Its really conveniently situated for the town. The cottage is beautifully presented. The beds were extremely comfortable and amazing pillows and duvets. Although it says it can accommodate 6, it felt pretty cosy with 4 adults. I think 6 might feel overcrowded. In summer, when you are out all time, it probably doesn't matter. But in November and during a storm...it was compact. It's worth saying too that the double cabin bed won't be to everyone's liking. Takes some gymnastics to get in and out and actually to shut the door from inside. But incredibly comfortable to sleep in. It would have been helpful to have more information specific to the actual property esp how to make heating work. It was v cold and not obvious how to get the heating working. I tried the programmer but it didn't seem to come on at times it was set. The 'fireplace' was wonderful. The boiling water on tap was great. Being picky, but some oven gloves would help...using tea towels isnt ideal as there are only 2 provided. Potato masher would be helpful too. A roasting tin or two as well. The dimmer switch in seating area was temperamental- sometimes it was v difficult to turn lights off. We are used to recycling plastics, paper, tins etc, and it was hard to discover how to do that locally. Again, some more property specific info would have been helpful. Shower room v compact but excellent shower with good hot water and great power. In downstairs loo, not sure the lighting cord on the flush is really up to the job! Key pick up and drop off very easy. We didn't get to use garden as weather wasn't conducive but some great views up the top.

  • "Marrow is very comfortable, warm, cosy and compact."

We were supposed to stay with our teen and dog so booked dog friendly accommodation which we ended up not needing. I think the house may have been a little small with a boisterous pet. The beds were comfortable. The house quiet. The garden lovely. There is no dining table and the sitting room chairs are small (note for those with bad backs!). The bathroom is v small with a compact shower cubicle, we missed a bath but probably more to do with the v v rainy weather. Off street parking is great. The house is a 15 minute steep walk into town; I don’t think it would suit anyone with mobility issues, or people wanting to pop out for coffee or a glass! Salcombe seems quiet and depressed (we come every year); quite sobering, hope the economy picks up as the South Hams are lovely. Restaurants not as good as usual, pubs deserted. Notable exceptions: Crab Shack, Oyster Shack and the restaurant in Gara Rock.

  • "So everything here should be seen in the context of first world problems but, since you asked, Marroy was a mixed bag."

Location wise, we’ve been coming here for year and Salcombe is always a balance between convenience of being near the centre and parking / garden / peace and quiet of being further away. Marroy is a bit of a walk up a very steep Onslow Road but the views - from the garden in particular - are stunning. The property IS three bedrooms on paper but it’s really two bedrooms and a bed. The box room is just (literally) a bed and there’s nowhere at all to put any belongings. The other rooms are OK but, as with any small cottages in a seaside town like Salcombe, they’re not roomy. As such the (albeit double) beds are quite small and it meant one of us - that would be Dad! - ended up sleeping on the sofa bed in the lounge. The fact there’s no curtains or blinds in the living space made that quite a challenge which is not ideal either at night when eating / watching TV. The cottage is comfortable in the living space but the kitchen is not well equipped. There is no microwave (or kettle) and we couldn’t for the life is us work out how to work the hobs so we just ate out. Not possible for everyone we know. Marroy isn’t cheap and it’s a nice little house but I suspect you could find better value - space and facilities - elsewhere in Salcombe; especially outside of Regatta Week when the town is obviously quieter and more property is available.

As the owners, we are sorry to receive such feedback. We have chosen not to put curtains in the sitting room as the house is not overlooked by any other properties but will take suggestion on board. With regards to the kitchen, you should have had all that you need - we do not have a kettle, as there is a a Quooker tap that provides boiling water on demand (instructions are in the main welcome booklet). All instructions for the cooker were all together in a pack, but I will visit the property next weekend to make sure things have not walked over the summer season. With regards to a microwave, there is one in the property but not on the side, and so I will put this out for future guests. With regards to beds - yes, these are standard double beds, but when refurbishing the property, we did make sure that they are very comfortable. Property Owner

  • "The house is absolutely lovely and so comfortable with a great location It is worth noting for future dog owners that the garden is not enclosed and the terrace and garden lead straight out onto the road which means that our dog had to be taken out on the lead all the time."

The pebbled steps are quite precarious as well

Dear Shelley, Thank you for your feedback. I have just taken a new contract with a gardening contractor and will take your comments on board. Property Owner

Perfect for our family of four (3 humans and one small dog!). The location is fantastic for an easy walk into Salcombe and to reach all of the beautiful spots nearby, our favourites being South Milton and South Sands along with Salcombe itself. Everything was easy from picking up the keys to dropping them back so thank you. We will be back!

  • "A super property that has been tastefully renovated."

We were really impressed with the "home from home' comforts and the charm of the property. Ideal location with off road parking. Our first visit to Salcombe but we will be visiting again without a shadow of a doubt.

Hi Alison, thank you so much for the feedback. We bought Marroy in 2020 and put our heart and soul into the refurbishment. As a family we adore the house in the summer or winter months and I’m glad you’ve had a good stay. I hope you will come back again to enjoy it in the summer months. Property Owner
