    Mr Passey

“Orchard Retreat is an exceptional cottage, although it is located next to the owner's property the cottage has total privacy and there are good views over a stream and hillside.”

The standard of construction of the cottage is high and the garden is attractive. The location of the cottage is close to a network of footpaths so we were able to walk for four or five hours directly from the cottage onto interesting walks. There are attractions nearby within a short drive including Sidmouth, Branscombe and the Donkey Sanctuary; it is also not too far from Exeter.

The cottage

Orchard Retreat is a smart, designer, single storey lodge set privately in the grounds of the owner’s home.

Inside is exceptionally comfortable, stylish and modern.

The large open plan lounge/kitchen/diner has full height, floor to ceiling windows, which fill the room with light and give lovely views across the well planted garden.

There is also a traditional wood burning stove to create a cosy year round retreat.

Two smart bedrooms offer flexibility, the double room has glazed sliding doors to the decked seating area and the bunk room is ideal for families, with the bottom bunk being a small double and the top bunk a single bed.

Outside, a wooden deck runs the length of the lodge and overlooks a spacious, private garden with table and chairs - ideal for bird watching or simply relaxing.

Here, you are within easy reach of the stunning Jurassic Coast in Dorset, the beaches of East Devon, and the historic cathedral city of Exeter, making it the perfect base for exploring both beautiful counties.

About the location

SIDMOUTH

Exeter 16 miles.

Sidmouth is an elegant seaside resort on the south Devon stretch of Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site of great natural beauty. Here is where the River Sid cuts through the Devon hills to meet the sea at Lyme Bay, creating a clean pebbly beach, giving way to golden sands at low tide backed by dramatic red cliffs creating a safe family beach with rockpools and safe bathing. Sidmouth is lined with stylish Regency cream-and-white architecture, creating an elegant Esplanade which makes for a relaxing stroll whilst looking out towards Beer Head. Sidmouth boasts one of the few public access observatories, the Norman Lockyer Observatory, complete with planetarium. There are a variety of attractions around Sidmouth including Pecorama with award-winning miniature railway and gardens, the Seaton tramway and the Otter Estuary Nature Reserve. Families will love the beaches, walkers will enjoy the South West coastal path and at the end of the day there are plenty of tea rooms, cafes and welcoming country inns to relax and refresh you.
