We had a water leak in the kitchen which was rectified by The maintenance quickly. The curtain runners in the lounge need attention as not possible to close curtains due to missing supports..well equipped.

  • "When we arrived at the property the house smelt of ‘dog’ - with dog hair prevalent on the rugs and mats."

The hoover is not fit for purpose. The whole place needs a general revamp. The drainer at the sink is rusty, the dish washer is not secured in the frame, the floor was dirty. Light bulbs were missing or not working. The shower cubicles need a deep clean. The tv’s need upgrading - remotes not very functional. There are no emergency torches. We have stayed in many ‘dog friendly’ establishments and this is the only one that felt dirty. We will not be returning which is a shame.

  • "The property was in an excellent location for walking to/accessing Weymouth and the facilities/harbour/seafront etc."

The property was also well equipped; furniture, utensils etc Parking is available gor one car but space is extremely small. Unfortunately, where the property falls down is on cleanliness. We stayed the first week of April, and the standard of cleanliness was low. The.sofas hadn't been moved, sweets underneath as well as paper/wrapper. In between the cushions on the sofa was quite off-putting as it was full of sand, so had not been hoovered. The wooden floors weren't clean. They may have swept/hoovered quickly bit had not been mopped. Ground floor shower room is very tight. The shower cubicle is small but hampered by a wide shelf around hip height which restricts bending in an already confined space. This didn't really make it accessible (along with steps down to the property) Overall, our week was good and we had a pleasant stay. However, I would not return to the property unless it was deep cleaned, and more care taken in between lettings. And I couldn't recommend it unless this is addressed.

My feed back then was good but I did mention that the oven was very poor and everything took much longer to cook than it should have done. This stay again the oven played up to the point we couldn't use it at all as it kept tripping the fuse box and it wouldn't work at all, so our meal planned on boxing day we couldn't cook.We were just relieved it didn't stop working on Christmas day as it could have ruined our day.The service we had in getting a small oven was fantastic and very helpful and quick, so we were all grateful for that.We did have a fantastic stay and would come back again

There was a problem with the hot water and heating and this was dealt with very quickly. The ground floor shower drains very slowly and a couple of toilet seats are loose but all in all a very nice stay.

We enjoyed our stay very much. Our wonderful Hearing Dog Otis was able to enjoy the park and dog walking area on the beach. All of the equipment needed was provided and were of a good standard. I like a bath and suggest a hand rail to help avoid slips when getting in and out of the bath should be fitted.

  • "Nice location central to everything in Weymouth."

Property felt like it wasn't very well furnished however. The en-suite shower leaked through the kitchen light which was very unsafe. Beds were rock hard, some had slats broken off of them and were very poor quality. My disabled mum could not get comfortable in her bed and quite often was painful because of how hard mattress was it had no give in it. No carpets meaning noises echoed throughout the whole place and not much storage space for clothes etc in rooms. For how expensive this property was it was a huge let down. Definitely not worth the cost. The location and the downstairs bedroom for my Mum were the only positives. It would really benefit from being refurbished.

Hello - Dream Cottages sent me a copy of your review this week. I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay at the house I appreciate that having the leak was difficult for you. There had been a leak, last year, but the plumber who came to mend it assured me that every joint was secure. I now understand that the recent leak was caused by there being 'soggy tiles' at the base of the shower. It has been mended temporarily until there is a gap in lettings to allow a more permanent fix. In relation to your other comments - we have the property assessed each year against national standards. This was done in January and the property has a 4 * rating. This assessment checks all the mattresses and whenever recommended we replace them to a high standard. Usually the replacement is because the mattress has become too soft. The property is a converted industrial building and so carpeting it would be inappropriate, and the sloping ceilings in the bedrooms make providing more furniture difficult. However we provide hanging and drawer space in all the rooms. These elements of the property are clear to see in the pictures on the website. We stay at the house a couple of times a year and find the settees very comfortable, as comments from other guests describe. We had the downstairs toilet converted to a shower room in 2019 to make the house more accessible, and I am pleased this was helpful for your mother. I am concerned that you found broken slats on one or more of the beds. I hope you reported this to Dream Cottages but I will check with them. I expect you will not book to stay at the Gables again, although the location makes it an excellent place for town and beach, but I hope you will use Dream Cottages again as they provide a good service. The noise issue with the apartment wasn’t a problem for us but it is a converted industrial building so won’t have been built to the same noise standards as a house so we didn’t have any issues with it. We loved the location and the apartment is very comfortable and we would definitely stay again.

The property is very old and tired and in need of renovation. All the windows need to be replaced one window is broken and will not stay shut. There is no sound proofing between floors so it is a very noisy property also it looked as if a tile had come off the roof which needs to be fixed. In addition the front door does not feel very secure. This property was very expensive but it did not justify the price.

  • "A lovely property in a great location."

Very well equipped and with comfortable beds and garden furniture. Sofas and arm chair look ok but springing seems worn so not as comfortable as they look. Steps inside and out not the easiest to negotiate. The worst thing for us was the parking. More information should be given about this BEFORE booking. Had I seen the info we received after we had paid before we did so I probably would not have booked. The spaces are incredibly tight. On one occasion during our stay a neighbour had to come and ask me to move my car (which was parked in accordance with instructions) so that she could get into hers. The only way I could get into my driving seat was by climbing over from the passenger side (luckily the car normally parked at that side was not in situ at the time).

  • "The standout feature of this property is without a shadow of a doubt - it’s location to the old harbour!"

Simply fantastic, and with secure parking it’s just great (yes the parking spot is a little tight, but the other drivers are very courteous). The house itself is very nicely laid out. The photos don’t really do it justice. The open plan layout is lovely and the rooms are all a very good size. A couple of bits need fixing/touching up, but these are nothing that would affect your stay (as mentioned in other reviews, the bedroom blinds are more for privacy than keeping the light out, so take some eye masks). We had a couple of issues that were fixed extremely quickly. Good pressure in the taps/shower, although the kitchen could use a boost as it takes a while to fill the kettle. Our only slight down point on this property, is that the walls and ceilings are very thin! You must appreciate it’s an old property, but you can hold a conversation with someone upstairs from the living room without raising your voice. That wasn’t an issue for us, but might be worth considering if you have a large group. On the whole we would definitely come back, if only for the location! Lots of great restaurants and bars a stones throw away (most of which are dog friendly too!). Try Cactus Jacks’ chilli challenge if you dare - it nearly killed me, but was just another great memory of our trip to the Gables!

  • "House was in an excellent location just minutescfrom the Harbour."

Great to have parking too. The House was very dusty everywhere. 5pm check in is later than most cottages and they certainly don't spend the time cleaning! Several bulbs were not working, TV remote in bedroom did not work and the batteries were rusted so been thatcway a long time! Also quite a bad leak on the toilet in the bathroom upstairs. Main downfalls were the blinds in the upstairs bedrooms where no better than net curtains. You can see through them from outside at night and you are woken up at daybreak with the light shining right on you in all three upstairs rooms. Finally there is no soundproofing in the entire building. You can hear a conversation in the living room from the bedroom and vice versa. The floors make such a noise it is impossible to move without disturbing the rest of the House.. Everything echos! Finally the adjacent building was having plumbing work carried out. Drills and hammering from 6.45am was a bit much the last two mornings of our stay. The House is in a great location, great to have parking, lovely little courtyard garden but no privacy at all. I wouldn't stay again. Bad blinds, terrible noise transfer between rooms and buildings. Our first stay in a dreams cottage but with have had many breaks with Sykes. Cleaning poorest we have encountered. Apart from changing beds I don't think they do anything!

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to read that certain aspects of the property were not to your liking. Our offices are open 7 days a week and we offer a 24 hrs out of hours service to our guests if they have any concerns relating to their stay. Due to the age of the building, before soundproofing guest may find the property echoey or a bit creaky which all adds to the character. We are happy you enjoyed your stay overall and decided to extend your holiday whilst at the property. Once again, thank you for taking the time in forwarding your feedback and we hope to welcome you back to Dorset very soon. Property Owner

The BT internet connection was excellent one of the best we've had in Weymouth. Well equipped kitchen with plenty of plates and cutlery, especially large knives. Also good to have a decent bread-bin. As a family of 6 we found the house to be large enough to accommodate all of us comfortably. It was clean and the bedding and towels supplied were very clean and of a good quality. And the kitchen had everything (and more) that we needed. We loved the fact it was situated so close to the harbour and town. Just a walk out of the gate. The only downside was the parking. There is only parking for one car. As we had booked a minivan for us all to travel comfortably we were not able to park in the designated parking bay. One phone call to Dorset Council and we had a parking ticket (£38) that lasted us for the whole week. It covered every long stay car park In Weymouth, Portland and Chessil Beach, so we parked at the Norte Forte car park over night. Just a 2 minute walk away from the house. £38 well spent. If coming back to Weymouth, we would certainly book The Gables again.

About the location

BREWERS QUAY HARBOUR

Dorchester 8.7 miles; West Lulworth 15.8 miles

Brewers Quay is the old Victorian brewery situated at the heart of the harbour, in Weymouth, Dorset. Much of the grade II listed complex and surrounding brewery buildings date from the late 1800 early 1900’s and many have stones inlaid commemorating their construction year. This area is now a popular destination with many restaurants, café and bars, creating a vibrant culture, where you can relax with a drink and watch the world go by. Tucked away down the harbourside streets, you will find original Tudor harbour buildings, estimated to have been built in 1600 and well worth a visit, with a very interesting history to share. You will also find the Weymouth Museum, with some incredible exhibitions, and the harbour is also home to the lifting bridge, where you can watch the luxury yachts head out to sea, and then walk over the bridge to the town's winding streets of boutique shops and the seafront esplanade and beach. There is more to this seaside town than meets the eye; Brewers Quay is a much-loved holiday destination in Weymouth!
