Village of Sutton Poyntz is lovely, very peaceful. Very close to the Springhead Pub which was very nice, people in the village were really friendly. Property is very spacious, dog friendly and ideally placed for most of Dorset

  • "We throughly enjoyed our stay at The Courthouse."

The house is ideally located for those with dogs that want to have access to great walking routes and a short drive to the beach. The accommodation was very clean considering pets are allowed. There’s an ideal garden to allow you let your pets outside knowing they are safe. The rooms are spacious and plenty of toilets/washing facilities. Parking is ideal and there are two shops not too far away. The local pub is very nice and the staff were very friendly and excellent at their job. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in and around Weymouth. We dined one evening in Catch and it was absolutely fantastic. I would highly recommend a stay at The Courthouse.

The house is well appointed and all the rooms are spacious. There is a veranda overlooking the garden which provides excellent weather protection and has nice patio furniture for dining outdoors. A quiet location and also very close to a duck pond and pub which serves good food and does not cause any problems.

Accommodation was very nice, not immaculate on cleanliness, but it is dog friendly and overall its to be expected. Really roomy, plenty of loos for a full house, and bags of easy parking outside your front door. Outside space very nice, superb for a Summer visit. Overall, a great place to stay, and would certainty recommend the location. My second stay in this particular spot and I'll be returning again this year. Thanks for the arrival treats also left by the owners. One particular observation for Sykes, is why don't you have an email address for correspondence.

Disappointed with cleanliness, it really needs a good deep clean (floors, cupboards, rugs, bath) kitchen utensils & cookware really grubby. The lounge really smelt of dogs & had a lot of dog hair around. Remember to bring tea towels & bathroom towels. It would be helpful to write how to use TV down, took lots of frustration to solve it & we are text too! In saying all the above, once we had cleaned & aired the house, we enjoyed our stay.

It was comfortable, spacious (the pictures do not do it justice) and safe for children. Any issues we had were soon addressed by the owner… thank you Eric. Yes, it could do with a deep clean and some redecorating but this property delivered in bucket loads for comfort and being able to relax with little people. And Sutton Poyntz is an idyll. • "Like other reviewers, we were disappointed by The Courthouse."

We have stayed in many self-catering cottages over the years, always opting for the more expensive ones, and usually getting what we paid for. The Courthouse is generally shabby and tired in appearance. we had to hoover the carpet when we arrived, after our grandson rolled on it and came up covered in dog hair. A large table lamp had broken off at the base and been propped up so that the slightest knock would dislodge it, leaving sharp edges that would have been dangerous to a child. Similarly, there were paracetamol tablets in a child-height drawer in the kitchen. The kitchen extractor fan was filthy, and the glassware and crockery were smeary, probably because of the dirty hinges and seals in the dishwasher - we washed ours by hand during our visit. The garden furniture included a table that was too rickety to use comfortably for eating, and one of the reclining chairs was broken (missing hinge). Luckily we noticed that before our heavily pregnant daughter-in-law sat in it. There is a sunken bin at the bottom of the garden for dog waste, but it is half full of dried faeces because no one has put any of the required fluid in to dissolve it, so we didn't add to it. It just seems that no one seems to check anything, or do any of the minor jobs that are needed to keep a rental in good condition (like oiling the bedroom door hinges). Although we eventually managed to turn the front door key (you have to lift the door fairly forcibly to get it to engage), someone even older and frailer than us would have struggled. This is a nice cottage in a lovely location, but it needs a lot of attention to justify the price.

Beautifully clean, well equipped, with very comfortable beds. The good quality cotton bed linen was lovely too, great to snuggle up in after a long day of walks on the local beaches & countryside with our two collies. Perfect bath (there is an over bath shower) or separate powerful shower which is en-suite to the master bedroom. Large comfy lounge (3 seater, 2 seater & two chairs) overlooking a fully enclosed garden which our two loved. Ample parking space for our car. Nice neighbours, they have dogs & whilst friendly kept themselves to themselves. The cottage is just a 2min stroll from The Springhead pub which is nestled away & clientele were lovely, good varied drinks, food menu & pizza oven outside. Lots of great walks for every type of walker. Close to Osmington Mills, Lulworth Cove/Durdle Door & Weymouth, Portland Bill. For avid readers there’s a red telephone box in the village packed with lots of good exchange books. All round excellent cottage & location. Yes, take your own towels as Sykes advises & if your visit is during or following a soggy week or two I’d imagine it is incredibly hard to clean the cottage if they’ve had a mindless family staying & not managing their dogs/tidying up after themselves, as would be anywhere. The decor & detail at this property showed me the owners & their cleaner care greatly for those that stay. I’ve always liked the All Blacks motto, ‘Sweep the Shed’.

The property could really do with re decorating, carpets on the stairs or repaired due to very creaky steps. Door latches make it impossible to open or close doors quietly at night and taps won’t fully turn off in the main bathroom. The lounge carpet is very stained but as this is a dog friendly property and the carpets are cream that can’t be helped. Very kind gift of a bottle of wine is greeting you on arrival but white wine would be better as red is not as popular. Washer/tumble dryer is a god send and kitchen is well equipped. The property

The Courthouse is a generous, well presented and decorated character detached property with a sunny enclosed rear garden situated in Sutton Poyntz, Weymouth.

During medieval times this property housed the court when Sutton Poyntz was the local regional centre, and later the court house for the Weld Estate.

A refurbished detached barn conversion with a large and spacious kitchen and dining area, where you can prepare tasty meals and then enjoy with a drink in the sitting area complete with exposed beams or on a warm sunny day or early evening open the patio doors and enjoy your meal alfresco while sitting in the pretty garden.

The Courthouse has three bedrooms, one en-suite.

Retaining the street plan and numerous stone houses from this period and from when it formed the inspiration for "Overcombe" in Thomas Hardy's "The Trumpet Major".

Today it offers the tranquillity of village life with the sound of ducks splashing in the pond and rustling willows from the village mill pond.

The Springhead Pub which offers provincial ales, chilled wine and a varied menu is only a very short walk from the property, taking you past the mill pond to a shop which is also within walking distance.

With the famous White Horse and the South West Coast path immediately to the north of the village The Court House is the perfect base for rambling.

Bowleaze Cove is only a mile walk whilst the award-winning golden sands of Weymouth and its picturesque harbour are a short drive or bus journey away.

The Courthouse is perfectly situated to explore the entire Jurassic Heritage coast with Purbeck, Lulworth Cove and Kimmeridge Bay all the way to Swanage to the east while to the west you will find Abbotsbury, Chesil Beach, Bridport and Lyme Regis.

The Courthouse is a wonderful stone detached property in a stunning village location, perfect for a coastal break away.
