  • "This was the first holiday I took with an electric car."

I asked at the time of booking if I could plug my car in, and the proprietor agreed in return for extra electricity costs being covered. The arrangement provided all the electricity needed for our vehicle during our holiday. There’s no dedicated EV charger, but I just ran an extension cable through an open window into a regular 3 pin socket inside. The cottage was clean, warm and has all the modern comforts including smart tv and modern kitchen. Bed was an open spring mattress, but I found my back to be well supported and I had a good nights rest.

  • "Couldn't fault anything about the property."

Clean, cosy and a secure. Everything we wanted it to be. Very simple arrival procedure, and it was nice to meet the owner, then be left alone for the holiday (in other cottages we have felt watched over). We have holidayed on the West coast of Scotland every year for over 20 years, this was one of the best properties for comfort and location, and we hope to return.

  • "A very well equipped and clean cottage situated on Loch Broom with stunning views."

A very peaceful and secluded place, excellent for R&R.

  • "A great property in a stunning location."

Prior to reserving we were worried by the access road towards the property and time it would take to get into Ullapool but the road really wasn’t an issue and it was relatively quick driving into Ullapool too. A lovely well equipped property that was very clean. Danielle was very helpful when we arrived and the welcome bottle of wine and voucher for sea shack food was great. Two adults and a teenager fitted in very nicely. Would have been cramped with 4 adults as only one bathroom. Ok for 2 adults and 2 small children with truckle bed. We will definitely be back

Nice welcome when we arrived, and great property - all family liked it. Thanks!

Cosy and comfortable but the mattress is a little bit tired and the quilt too hot for summer.

  • "Everything was as expected."

Lovely view from the property. We would have preferred more modern furniture in the living room - but that is a matter of taste - it was all spotless! We really enjoyed the honesty stall on the way to the property - the salad was excellent, and the eggs. I would recommend stocking up on food beforehand as Ullapool has limited choice. Good fishmonger - but no butcher and the Tesco is small and was rammed (although of course it was the height of the season).

  • "We were very impressed with the cleanliness and comfort of the Ben."

It's located in a lovely peaceful area, with a great view over Loch Broom. Danielle was most helpful on the few occasions that we needed assistance. A minor detail: we'd have brought washing-up cloths (J-cloths) and kitchen roll if we'd known that they aren't currently provided. The big picture: a very enjoyable holiday, blessed by some very good weather.

  • "My note that facilities were not perfect was due only to the fact that because of Covid, it was necessary to remove cushions, books and games, and information leaflets etc."

Danielle the owner came over and made that clear, and could not have been a more welcoming or helpful host.

  • "We had a wonderful time at The Ben."

The location exceeded all expectations. The view from the window was so beautiful that we enjoyed returning from our days out just to look at it! The accommodation was very comfortable and more spacious than we had anticipated. The bathroom and kitchen were well equipped and the bed was very comfortable. The location was super for trips to Ullapool and further into the Highlands. Thank-you Danielle for your warm welcome, the wine and the voucher for the Seafood Shack. We enjoyed a lovely lunch there. Other fun times included a trip to the Summer Isles, a drive to Kylesku (breathtaking scenery), the walk up Ullapool Hill on a sunny day and a visit to Inverewe Garden. We also very much enjoyed the Ullapool museum which helped us to understand the history of the place. Everyone we met was helpful and friendly and it was a great start to our tour of Scotland!

  • "We had a lovely week in The Ben."

Although it’s about 20-25min drive into Ullapool, the location above the loch overlooking farmland is idyllic. A minor issue with the shower was quickly addressed and didn’t spoil our holiday in the slightest. Thanks so much to Danielle and her family.

The location was perfect, and the cottage had everything we needed. The host was very helpful when we had trouble finding the place in the dark, and even provided us with spare sheets and towels when we had friends join us for a couple of nights. We were given wine and free range eggs on arrival, and the place was left heated for us. It was extremely clean. Thank you so much for our stay.

Ullapool, nestling on the shores of Loch Broom and overlooking the Summer Isles, is the largest settlement in Wester Ross. This picturesque town was designed in the 18th Century by Thomas Telford and boasts delightful, whitewashed buildings and is also the main terminus for the ferry to Stornoway, the principal town in the Western Isles. The town offers some lovely pubs and restaurants, a range of shops including a well-stocked supermarket, a challenging coastal golf course and a museum and Visitor Centre on West Argyle Street for those wishing to discover more about the area. The museum covers a range of topics including crofting, fishing, emigration and the history of the town. Ullapool is also an ideal base from which to explore the North West of Scotland, with most of the main tourist attractions an easy drive away. The National Trust for Scotland Inverewe Gardens, created by Osgood MacKenzie who collected plants from all parts of the world, is a particular highlight.
