"We enjoyed a wonderful 3 night stay, myself, my partner, my mother and our 1 year old Labrador."

Ruth met us at the property and gave us a tour which was so lovely, the barn is beautiful, well set out and very clean and comfortable! The property was perfect for my mother who has low mobility so she had the ground floor bedroom and we had the bedroom upstairs. All equipped with walk in showers and even a dog wash facility in the utility room next door! There is a fully enclosed field about 10 steps away from the front door which our labrador thoroughly enjoyed and we especially loved the hot tub in the garden! A very welcome experience after the rainy days! We would absolutely recommend and would definitely stay here again!

"A Wonderful Stay at Meadow Syke Barn!"

We had such a fantastic stay at Meadow Syke Barn and were warmly welcomed by Ruth, who gave us a lovely tour of the property. The barn itself is beautiful—spacious, spotless, and very thoughtfully equipped. It was ideal for our us, especially my wife's mother with limited mobility, thanks to the comfortable ground floor bedroom and walk-in shower. The setting is peaceful and scenic, with picturesque views all around and a large secure patio garden, perfect for relaxing and admiring the views. We didn't make use of the hot tub, but there is one located on the patio if required. The barn had everything we needed: a well-equipped kitchen with thoughtful extras like coffee pods, tea, milk, biscuits, wine, and even toiletries and towels. We is also a reasonably priced EV charging point on-site. Ruth was amazing—friendly, helpful, and if needed only a phone call away. Her communication before and during our visit was excellent, and she truly made us feel at home. We also enjoyed a meal at the local pub The Mardale Inn (ensure you book a table in advance) and visited nearby Lowther Castle & Gardens and Larch Cottage Nurseries, about 20 minutes away. All in all, we had a fantastic 4 days and would 100% recommend Meadow Syke Barn for a base to visit the Lake District. We would definitely come back!

She told us everything we needed to know. We had one issue that occurred during our stay but she was VERY quick at sorting it out. We will 100% be back!! It is a beautiful cottage with picturesque views all around. Perfect for some down time and time to relax. The hot tub just tops it off! No matter what the weather. As for location it’s a short journey away from local attractions.

"Meadow Syke Barn is a truly amazing, very dog friendly and peaceful retreat that is well positioned to see lots of the major sights in the Lake District."

Clean and spacious with a secure large patio garden for your dog. Added bonus of an optional hot tub to soak in after a day of hiking. The accommodation is well equipped, all you could need in the kitchen with thoughtful touches of tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits, wine and milk available when you arrive. Comfortable beds and great bathrooms. Very reasonably priced electric car charging on site was really handy. What was truly outstanding was the friendly, welcoming nature of Ruth, the owner. Excellent communication before arrival, friendly welcome on arrival and available during your stay if you needed her. We would highly recommend Meadow Syke Barn and would stay again if ever in the area in the future. Thank you Ruth for a great holiday!

Amazing property. Clean and spotless. Great secure garden so our dog could roam freely. The hot tub was amazing. The underfloor heating was a lovely touch. The only negative we had (but wouldn’t stop us booking again) is there is very limited storage in the kitchen. So after we had a weeks worth of food delivery it was difficult to store it all. Next time we would just have 2 separate food deliveries in the week. Also there is very limited clothing storage. We managed as just the 2 of us staying, but would have struggled with 4 people staying. Again this wouldn’t stop us booking again. Would say more suited to 2 people rather than 4 if staying longer than 2/3 nights. Only a 10minute walk to the local pub. Lovely staff, food and drink brilliant. Highly recommend and we aim to return in the future. :)

Despite being January, we were lucky with the weather, which made the stunning scenery even more enjoyable. The location was ideal—so close to local hiking trails, making it easy to get out and explore. Plus, there was a fantastic community-run pub just a short walk away, where we had an amazing meal and enjoyed a great selection of wines. Ruth met us at the location and showed us around. The place is just lovely. Some fantastic views - enjoyed quite a few times from inside the (beautifully clean) hot tub! The barn has everything you'd need. We're quite a techy family, so the fast internet was perfect (I believe it's Starlink). Usually in more rural locations the internet can be a bit sketchy, not here! Full coverage wifi all around the property too. We always take our firestick away with us, so netflix etc all worked seamlessly. Everything was clean and high quality within the property too. Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher and full size fridge all adding to the home comforts. The location was great for visiting surrounding lakes... and the local pub only a short walk away (though, it was quite dark so we drove in the evening). Next time we're in the Lakes, we'll definitely be looking to book Meadow Syke Barn again.

Enjoyed an evening meal at the Mardale Inn, fab and staff lovely. Pooley Bridge only 20 minutes away, had a lovely lunch by the riverside. "Wonderful property with fabulous amenity and an incredibly helpful and friendly owner."

Sykes Barn is beautifully situated in rural Bampton, with glorious walks all around - including a short stroll to the great local pub! Everything was spotless on arrival, including the hot tub, which we'd paid the supplement to use. Kitchen equipment is plentiful and the bottle of wine, biscuits, fresh milk and tea/ coffee were a lovely touch. As others have said, the only tiny area we could suggest for improvement would be a sturdier/ more filled fence between the gardens of the two adjoining properties. The current fence allowed for some interesting interactions between our respective dogs! Thank you for a wonderful stay - we'd love to return.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We have acted upon your comments regarding the small section of fence between the properties and have fitted a solid fence pannel which should prevent further interesting interactions between our fury guests. We are so glad you had a wonderful stay and would love to welcome you back. Property Owner

The property has been thoughtfully converted, is comfortable and well equipped. We did find the TV somewhat tricky to manage at first as it relies on streaming services alone. Very dog friendly property with dedicated dog shower area with towels. Proximity to adjacent property with only a post and rail fence between, did lead to some interesting interchanges between our dogs and those next door! Perhaps a rather more solid fence in that one area would help. Overall there is very little not to like and we had a great week! Thank you Ruth and team.

Thank you for your feedback and we are really pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. We have taken on board your comments about the post and rail fence between the properties and have installed a solid fence panel in the section where the properties meet. Property Owner

"The barn has been beautifully renovated but the lack of attention to detail was evident."

The fixtures and fittings let it down. The cost of a 4 night stay was a premium price and we felt the property standard did not reflect the price charged. The sofa needs replacing, you sink so low into it that it's just not comfortable. The bedrooms are lacking basic furniture. Neither bedroom had a wardrobe or a chest of drawers. The upstairs bedroom had barely anywhere to put your clothing. There were two (small) sets of cheap bedside drawers, one of which was dusty and we found hairs inside two drawers. My husband had to fix his set of bedside drawers as one drawer was coming apart. The clothes hanging 'device' was laughable. There were just 4 hangers for the two of us, on what appeared to be a coat type 'tree' stand thing attached to the wall! Neither of the flimsy mirrors in either bedroom were screwed to the wall. They were just propped against the wall and we were concerned about knocking them over as they were so light. You couldn't see yourself in them anyway as the mirrors were on the floor and were not tall enough to view yourself in! Pointless really. The bed pillows were poor quality and uncomfortable too. We found positives in that the kitchen was well equipped and the bathrooms were modern with good water pressure. The barn is very warm which was appreciated on cold mornings. Dogs are catered for too with water and food bowls. The local pub in Bampton served delicious food too. Ruth, the owner, was very welcoming. However we were disappointed to be told the EV charging was an extra cost. At the time of booking, the advert on Sykes did not state there was an additional charge for using the electric car charger. We have mobile phone screen shots as proof of this. To be fair to Ruth when we raised this with her she did allow us to have one free car charge. However, it was disappointing that the advert was incorrect and it was a fee we did not expect to pay. One of the reasons we booked this barn was because the car charging was meant to be included in the booking price! Lastly, the driveway up to the barns needs some work. It is not suitable for low ground clearance vehicles. We scraped our car underneath a few times on the uneven steep driveway. It would benefit from having tarmac laid rather than shingle, as the shingle gets moved around which exacerbates the uneven ground. Additionally it is not safe to turn left out of the driveway onto the main road as the visibility is poor. If you have a car longer than a hatchback then you cannot complete the left turn in one manoeuvre either. Finally, we wish to explain that we have stayed in many self-catering accommodations over the years and feel this is a fair and accurate reflection of our stay at Meadow Syke Barn.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback regarding your recent stay at Meadow Syke Barn. Regarding the electric vehicle charging, we sincerely apologise for any confusion or inconvenience caused by the misunderstanding that made you think that you could charge your car for free. You made it very clear how upset you were regarding the fact that we charge per kw when the EV charger is used and took the opportunity to try and rectify the situation during your short stay by allowing you a full charge, at no cost. I instantly contacted Sykes to amend the listing stating that the EV charger has a charge payable to the owner to prevent this misunderstanding in the future. We take all of your comments regarding the fixtures, fittings, and overall standard of the property very seriously, I am sorry to hear that you did not find the sofa as comfortable as previous guests have, but due to individual preferences we have tried to cater for everyone's taste by having a large soft sofa with extra cushions, as well as a firmer chair, dining chairs and a stool. With regards to the bedrooms lacking basic furniture, due to the bedroom sizes and the fact that we opted for larger comfortable beds storage space is reduced and I am sorry to hear that you found the clothes hanging device 'laughable' but we have one open wardrobe/ hanging rail with shelf unit in an alcove in the 1st bedroom and a vertical wall hanger upstairs, but I have taken your comments on board. I am shocked to hear you found one of the sets of draws was not clean and can only apologise as I clean the holiday lets myself and take great pride in it. We are delighted to hear that you found positives in the well-equipped kitchen, modern bathrooms, water pressure and the warmth of the barn, as well as our efforts to cater to guests travelling with dogs. Your kind words about the welcoming atmosphere we strive to maintain mean a great deal to us. Furthermore, we acknowledge your concerns regarding the driveway. Unfortunately we have recently experienced bad weather that has caused some damage to parts of the track which is in the process of being rectified but at all times has remained safe and accessible to all vehicles which use it regularly not just guests but residents, postmen delivery vans etc. We understand that you feel it would benefit from tarmac laid, however this is just not an option due to planning restrictions on our farm track/bridleway set by the Lakedistrict National Park Authority. We acknowledge that the turning at the bottom is tight however it is to highways standards and extra care is needed on rural country lanes. As mentioned in the welcome email I send prior to guests arrival you can easily continue the short distance to the village where there is ample space for turning and allowing the easier access from the south. Your comprehensive feedback is invaluable to us as we continuously strive to enhance the guest experience at Meadow Syke Barn. We sincerely hope that despite the challenges you encountered, you were still able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the warmth of our hospitality. Ruth Property Owner

The barn did not disappoint at all. Really well appointed with everything you could possibly want from a holiday let. Ruth was there to greet us as we arrived, a lovely touch and a bottle of wine placed in the fridge to enjoy on our first night. The hot tub was fab after our long drive, I packed our own towels to use out there, rather than using the beautiful white ones in the bathroom. Beds are super comfortable, towels fluffy and toiletries in each bathroom included. The kitchen has everything you need to rustle up some fab meals, even a pestle and mortar so we could crush our own spices! The addition of a utility room, shared with the barn next door, offered a washing machine and tumble dryer and a separate room with a dehumidifier for drying wet coats and boots. The Mardale Inn, a mere 10 minute walk into Bampton, was a lovely community pub, would really recommend the Sunday Roast but you need to book as it gets really busy. We recommend walking to the top of Knipes Scar, visible as you look across from the barn. Penrith, Windermere, Pooley Bridge, Ullswater and Aira Falls are all within easy reach by car and worth the drive. All in all a really great week in a 5 star holiday let.
