  • "Our second time staying here, a real home from home and we love the location on the edge of Pendle Hill."

Molly the farm cat welcomed us back and she stayed with us again which was lovely. the farm drive needs some attention once the wet weather has gone so just drive slowly up the lane and you will be fine. Recommend a trip to alpes butchers by Lidl, fantastic meat and deli counter. We shall be back next year.

  • "Great week had by all at Pendleside."

Lovely rural location was thoroughly enjoyed by our young son, as was the resident cat (not for everyone but he enjoyed it). The hosts couldn't have been more accommodating and willing to help. All in all, a great little cottage and we'd have no hesitation to come back again.

Neither of us like cats but we had a cat on the window ledges all the time of brought a mouse in the cottage as soon as we arrived, people in the guest book liked the cat but we did not sorry. The last thing is the driveway up to the cottage was rough and full of potholes, other wise we enjoyed it even though it sounds like we did not

  • "I would say that this was the most disappointing holiday cottage we have ever stayed in."

We have booked with Sykes on several occasions previously & have been very impressed with the standard of accommodation, but unfortunately on this occasion our experience failed to meet our expectations. From the photos it looks as though the cottage is remote & offers privacy, however you are nestled between two other properties & next to a camp site. Due to building work next door & the lack of privacy, it was like living next door to a building site & made the garden space unusable. We didn't feel like we could sit out there at all, plus the "secure garden" we were promised for our dog was quite the opposite & our dog escaped instantly! The shower was also unusable (I think the thermostat had packed up) and alternated between freezing cold & boiling hot. I had to wash my hair over the sink instead. None of the internal doors shut properly & the kitchen scissors & torch mentioned on the itinerary which would have been useful were absent. Also due to two other cars sharing the parking area, it made it extremely difficult to manoeuvre to get out without conducting a 10 point turn!! I would definitely not return to this cottage. Very unsatisfactory!!!

  • "Pendle side was just perfect, perfect for everything we wanted to do, everything was neat and tidy and clean, beds were OK (nothing like your own bed but fine for a week away) everything you needed in the kitchen, our dog loved it also as the garden was secure, we had plenty of visits from the resident friendly farm cat."

.....so mush so we even feed him/her, the owners were very welcoming even allowing our three boys to run around on the numerous fields around the cottage playing with their nerf gun's, we can highly recommend the local pub which is in easy access and walking distance The Calf's Head, food and staff are great, overall we'll be returning very soon xx

Very comfortable place to stay, friendly owners ( and 'resident' cat if you are not quick enough to shut the door!), 20 minute walk to excellent dog-friendly local pub with extensive menu and decent cooking. Good base for exploring the beautiful local countryside, including Malham Cove and the surrounding Yorkshire Dales. Nearby Clitheroe( 3 miles) has an abundance of shops in a lovely country town, including a superb wine stockist! We've been before, and we will be going again.

The cottage had everything we needed and was very clean and cosy. The owners were friendly and helpful. The location is great. We would stay again. A ten minute walk to the beautiful pub in the village, ten minute drive to Clitheroe, which is lovely.

  • "The fact that we returned within the year shows that we like the place and its location."

Not an issue for us, but the indication that Broadband is available is misleading. It didn't work last year and nothing has changed. We had good 4G on ee but never had Internet access over WiFi. Welcome literature could do to be updated and a list of TV channel numbers would be nice. Everything else good to excellent.

It was not cosy as the heating only heated the radiators for a short time in the morning and on several evenings they did not heat up at all. The television did not have a signal. I turned it off at the mains and on switching back on , there was a signal but then the Skye remote did not work. Th area was delightful with lovely views form the cottage and good walking nearby.

  • "The situation of the cottage and its views are outstanding."

The 2 single chairs in the lounge are uncomfortable, old and too large and need replacing The single bed is advertised as only 2 foot six wide but NOT that it is also under 6 feet long , therefore making it unsuiable for an adult. The grass was very long and the garden was not well maintained. The cottage has a charm but all the furniture and fittings were old or homespun. We couldn't understand how it was felt a £100 bond was neccessary for the contents. The cottage is bang next door to a washroom and toilet block for use by caravaners and campers. Fortunately there were almost none while we were there but we can imagine it being intrusive (noisy) in peak times

  • "We had a very pleasant surprise on finding our holiday cottage."

What a view! Pendle Hill is just stunning and such beautiful surroundings. The cottage was warm, secure, well equipped with lovely comfortable beds. High standard of cleanliness and a lovely conservatory and light entering the cottage. We loved the period features and style and a lovely décor and colour choice. We had a warm welcome from Emma who made sure we were happy and went out of her way in torrential rain to come and check on us. How lucky we were to be part of the farm community and experience what this is like. Beautiful horses, pygmy goats - and baby Bella!, chickens, and the most gorgeous tabby cat who paid a daily visit and loved cuddles. Farm staff were so helpful and kind and encouraged us to see the animals and gave advice on local walks - thanks to all of them and Emma. Local area is full of things to do - walks, we visited HAPPA - Horse and Pony Protection, Gawthorpe Hall. My great-great grandfather was from Lancashire and I can see why he loved it so much, I could quite happily have stayed on the farm. The torrential rain on the week we visited did not detract from our stay and we had a fabulous week with Mum and my grand daughter, so much so that we hope to book again for next year once our holidays at work are agreed. Cannot wait to return.

  • "The cottage is in a beautiful, quiet location surrounded by stunning countryside and close to a number of beautiful small towns and villages."

Cottage is comfortable enough however we feel it could do with some upgrading in terms of decor. Wifi signal is very weak - you're better off standing out in the middle of the driveway than in the cottage itself and TV is extremely small. The bathroom looks like it could do with an overhaul - it looks shabby and piecemeal and quite dirty. We feel that overall the place could have been cleaner - it looks like it hasn't been given a good thorough cleaning for a while with frames on windowsill covered in dust and a funny smell to sofas and cushions. The bunk bedroom is super small and had we been more than 4 people I'm not sure how that room would have been used as a bedroom as there is space for the bunk beds and nothing else. The mattresses on the bunks also look like they've seen better days - they looked old and worn. It's a good thing that the other double bed had been made up for our children as the room was more spacious and we wouldn't have been happy with them on those mattresses.

  • "The cottage itself was ok."

The views are tremendous and the village pub, The Calfs Head was outstanding. The first suprise was bunk beds rather than a single bed. It doesn't state that any were in the description of the property. The second suprise was the unfriendlyness of the owners. Would recommend the area EVERYONE else was super nice but would not recommend the property.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm pleased to hear that you enjoyed the views but sorry that the property didn't live up to your expectations.
