"The cottage was lovely but needs more glasses there were no Tumblers only pint glasses and wine glasses."
Also broken cheap plastic glasses for hot tub. Other cottages been to also have plastic wine glasses for safety reasons. Possible some more bowls only cereal bowls, needed desert/soup bowls aswell slightly larger BUT we had a great family holiday thank you Angela
"Beautiful cottage in landscaped grounds."
Great to have a hot tub.
"The only negative comment we have is that an air- fryer would have been useful."
In all other respects the cottage and facilities were wonderful.
"Cottage was really good."
Very clean and had everything you need for a self catering holiday.will use this cottage again. One thing they could do is put a roof over hot tub for bad weather. But i might be just be picky there.
"This property is perfect!"
The location is amazing, only a 20 min walk from Bowness centre so easy to get to but in a quiet secluded place. The cottage itself was stunning. They even included washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets. The beds are all super comfy, the rooms spotless. A wide range of utensils and cookware in the kitchen and a fantastic lounge with speaker and smart TV. The hot tub was just an added benefit but a well received one! Stunning views out the back. Easy and simple check in and out. Very responsive hosts who even got the property ready early! Could not recommend anywhere more! Big groups or large families, this is the place to be! Lots of parking available too. You need to stay here!
"The cleanliness of the house was disappointing, given that under the sofas and under the sofa cushions weren't hoovered and there was lots of dust and food crumbs."
Also in top of the wardrobes there was a huge amount of dust. The dinning room table was covered in crumbs. Also the toaster is faulty and tripped the system several times, during our stay. The toilet seat in the rear en suite bathroom is broken. We had an issue with the bath plug which the grounds man fixed. Also we only ever had one key card it was the one left in the box we never found another card in the cottage. All in all it was a very enjoyable stay and we would definitely stay again.
"Our group loved the setting and the quality of the accommodation."
It was very quiet and the outlook was fantastic considering we were in such a tourist area. Close to the facilities of Bowness and Windermere and a walk right from the accommodation. We even got a call to advise we could check in earlier than 5pm which pleased us. Only criticism was our group all thought the duvets were too thin for the time of year / weather with no option of adding a blanket or extra layers in the cottage. A throw was offered when requested but we had to ask. Otherwise we had a really good time and would consider returning especially if action was taken on our comments about extra bedding.
"We had an issue with heating on first day, there were several faults which we reported and it was not as clean as we had expected it to be."
Location and house size was excellent. Maintenance and cleanliness needs improvement
"Everything was brilliant."
No issues and a lovely property and location.
"Third time staying at the cottages - great as usual - no issues at all - will be back."
"Well equipped cottage and perfect location."
The property was clean and well looked after. We used the hot tub every evening, even when it rained. A fantastic holiday destination and we would be very happy to return to this cottage.
"Only a few small gripes."
Good location and handy for us as we were doing The Dales Way. Neighbours quiet. Wildlife right next to us was great. We would have liked a supply of rubbish bags. Only just enough loo rolls. It may be good to have the option of not having a hot-tub. Not everyone appreciates the cost of having them.
"Great property, second time we have booked this cottage."
Plenty of room and enough bedrooms for eight people. Cottage well equipped, kitchen great, staff excellent and very helpful. Hot tub went down well and kids enjoyed daily visit of resident ducks. Would recommend early booking as cottage very popular due to location and facilities.
"This was a very well equipped and comfortable cottage."
Unfortunately not all the guests could attend due to a bereavement and Covid so three of us were lucky to enjoy the facilities instead of seven. It is close to Bowness but a shame it’s not really possible to walk there as there is no walkway/footpath, you really have to drive in. It’s a great base for exploring the southern end of the lakes. Only thing to say is the directions for getting to the cottage could have been more precise, doesn’t say which junction of the M6 and which A road to follow, not obvious if you don’t know the area.
"The property was perfect."
The living space allowed us to be all together as a family and the view into the garden made us feel like we were in the lakes every moment of our trip! We loved it!
"Beautiful clean modern cottage which was ideal for a large family party."
The setting amongst the trees was very relaxing and the hot tub was a great hit with all the family. Would definitely recommend.
"Excellent, Wii definitely return"
"We had an amazing family break at Cherry cottage!"
Everyone had their own space but we were all together under one roof. Beautiful views and wildlife. Ducks to feed in the morning which my granddaughter loved! The hot tub was a welcome treat after my husband had run in the Coniston 14 road race. I can’t speak highly enough of the location and facilities of the cottage - brilliant!
"Amazing stay, beautiful property."
Would love to come back!
"This is our 4th time at The Oaks, we missed 2 years due to covid."
It was amazing to be back. The cottages are in a beautiful location and so relaxing. We had a fantastic time as always. Can't wait to go back again next year.
"We stayed with a group of friends and our first impressions were wow."
The cottage was beautifully decorated, the beds were super comfy and although it was January the cottage was lovely and warm. This was particularly important when we had been out for the day. The bathrooms were all modern and the kitchen was kitted out to such a high standard, it had everything you could ever need and enough pots and pans for our party of 10. The hot tub made the week for us, just to be able to have a nice soak at the end of the day. The cottage is in beautiful countryside but only 20 minute walk from the centre of Bowness or a £5 taxi ride. The Sykes staff were amazing, so helpful and it was nice to know that they were on site if needed. Would definitely go back.
"Absolutely loved the facilities, the cleanliness and location of the cottage, couldn’t of asked for anything more!"
The only factor that impacted our experience was leaving day when you have to be out the cottage at 10 am prior to departure We knew we had to strip the beds etc but to then find we had to sort through the bed linen and towels splitting it all into bags of bed sheets, pillow cases, duvet cover, bath towels, leisure towels is an excessive ask it we had to get up at 0730 to make sure we had our breakfast washed and cleaned all the dishes and put them back in the cupboards as per the request and cleaned through and sorted the linen. Not what you want to be doing on the last day!
"These cottages are exceptional well equipped very clean very modern excellent"
"Everything was excellent and to a high standard and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Cherry Cottage, despite the wet weather (even the property owners couldn't do anything about that !"
!) but we made the most of every minute. The hot tub was a real treat. The property owners and staff were very friendly and helpful and we would have no hesitation returning again.
"Had a brilliant time celebrating my husband’s 50th with 6 friends, cottage was gorgeous and had all the facilities we needed for cosy nights in cooking, playing board games or spending time in the hot tub chilling."
5 minutes taxi ride to Bowness cost £5 between 8 of us so we could all enjoy a few drinks - highly recommend.
"Spacious, comfortable house for our 3 generation family holiday."
Lovely outdoor area with space for the little ones to let of steam and a great hot tub to relax in. Quiet spot but only 5 mins drive into Bowness.
"We love the cottage it’s perfect for our family, It is spacious, clean and you’ve got everything you need."
We will definitely come back.
"We had waited 2 years for this holiday to come to fruition and it was well worth waiting for."
Accommodation was spotless, beautiful location, magnificent views. Staff excelled themselves in friendleyness and helpfulness, above and beyond expectations. We enjoyed it so much we've booked again for next year.
"Great location as the cottage is literally 5 mins drive from Bowness but nicely tucked away off the beaten track."
Facilities in the cottage were all good, the cottage is large enough so that the ten people staying are not under each others feet. I would really recommend this cottage and even though there are other cottages around they don't interfere with each other.
"The cottage was in a good location and there was plenty of room for our family of 8."
The people who looked after the property were very helpful and friendly. Was easy to walk into Bowness from the cottage, the location was perfect, quiet and peaceful.
"Better than any of us imagined - won’t hesitate to re book and recommend to everyone we know!"
"LOCATION We stayed in the “Cherry” cottage – one of half a dozen self-contained cottages at the end of a private drive on the hill above Bowness (at The Glebe end)."
While it’s not an un-walkable distance from Bowness, the walking route isn’t very safe as there is no pavement and the route can be quite busy. But there’s plenty of parking in Bowness – just remember to budget for parking fees! Most of the car parks accept payment via the PayByPhone app – so no cash needed. OUTDOORS Each cottage has an outdoor seating area with plenty of chairs, a 6 person (at a squeeze) hot tub, and a BBQ platform (for disposable and camping BBQs). The outdoor space is screened from the neighbours so it is nice and private. Cherry backs on the woods so you won’t get much afternoon or evening sun, but you’ll enjoy the birdsong. The grounds are immaculate and everything is well maintained. We had two dedicated parking spots 50 yds from the front door, and parked two more cards in the large overflow car park just 150 yds away. There is an office on-site if you have any problems (or forget your key card). Cherry also has a nice large outdoor space adjacent to the property in which we played football and boules. BEDROOMS Four bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs, all with comfy mattresses and pillows, and the linen was all spotless. You get a bath towel and hand towel per person, as well as a separate towel to use with the hot tub. Two of the bedrooms upstairs were en-suite (with double cubicles and powerful hydraulic showers), there was a spacious family bathroom with shower over (perfect for bathing our baby grandson), and a nice open landing. The downstairs bedroom was also en-suite, and there was a cloakroom off the utility. Just remember to keep the blinds closed when the sun is out, as the rooms are in the roof and can get uncomfortably warm. KITCHEN A lovely big open plan kitchen diner with all the mod cons including dishwasher, microwave and toaster. Tastefully done and well equipped with crockery, cutlery, pans and utensils including a commercial-sized cookpot and frying pan! The table seated 10 comfortably. Off the kitchen is a utility with a washing machine and tumble dryer, and a very useful second “drinks” fridge. The dining room has French Doors opening out to the deck, and morning and night we were visited by families of ducks which was areal treat for our grandson. LIVING Three big sofas, lots of side tables, and a big open space in the middle for our grandson to play! A big Sony TV with all the usual smart tv features and a soundbar was much appreciated for watching the Euro 2020 football. There is another set of French Doors opening onto the deck – so plenty of air circulation when it got really got. SERVICE We absolutely could not fault the service we received from the management team. They responded promptly to queries in advance and while on-site, and there was an office on-site to help with any queries during our stay. We were unhappy with the cleanliness of the floors when we arrived – a by-product on the additional sanitisation required elsewhere because of COVID I guess – but they sent a crew in on Saturday morning to address this. OVERALL Cherry Cottage definitely deserves a 4.5 star rating, and we will be coming back again. So we have no hesitation in recommending it as a fab base for a family holiday in the Lakes, with lots of luxury at a very reasonable price.
"Value for money."
We all enjoyed our stay but the price for next year is too high unfortunately.
"Great location, loved the setting with the woods and watching the wildlife of an evening from the hot tub, spacious house inside."
Had a really lovely holiday.
"Gorgeous cottage immaculately clean everything in it lovely location could not fault thanks"
"Smashing accommodation, great views, could not fault the place."
"Beautiful cottage in a good location"
"We had a fantastic 70th birthday celebration at cherry cottage it was quiet and convenient for all we needed."
Everyone enjoyed the hot tub and the lovely walk over the beautiful countryside with great views. The cottage was clean and well supplied with a welcome pack on arrival. A very big thank you to everyone for a job well done in the present circumstances.
"We had a wonderful time at Cherry - Woodland Cottage, it was very comfortable, well planned and laid out."
The family all enjoyed the excellent facilities the cottage offered, including the hot tub, grounds and location, we found it very peaceful and relaxing. This is the second time we have used Sykes Cottages and I can highly recommend them.
"All of our party loved our stay at Cherry Cottage."
The cottage itself was modern, clean and beautifully decorated that the pictures can't quite do justice to. The owners were extremely helpful in facilitating our party's needs and I cannot recommend this cottage and these vendors enough! Thank you for a wonderful stay, we will definitely be back.
"The most amazing family set up with facilities for large groups."
"An amazing experience."
Excellent, clean and spacious facilities. Brilliant hot tub and a lovely touch to provide fresh scones upon arrival. Would definitely recommend to stay here.
"Absolutely met my expectations because I have stayed at Cherry last year."
This was a different group and every singly person thoroughly enjoyed their stay especially the accommodation. I am booked to stay again 6-8 March 2020 with my family and am already looking forward to it. Feedback from this group of friends was 1 The scones were a lovely gesture 2 Beds were very comfortable 3 Lounge was fantastic - the view, the fire and the comfy settees Kitchen and dining room large and very well equipped Everyone said they would recommend See you next March Heather
"Beautiful exceptionally clean and spacious house with hot tub."
Perfect place to stay. Surroundings also beautiful and only 15 minute walk into Bowness. Well equipped and beds so comfy.
"Beautiful extra large cottage exceptionally clean and comfortable."
Only one little complaint............... the dish washer wasn't working though fortunately we shamed the men in our party to do the deed!!!!!! I would have no problem recommending this place and would certainly stay here again.
"The location was brilliant , Well presented property with a great views easy ..."
The location was brilliant , Well presented property with a great views easy access to bowness and surrounding areas 100% would recommend this for famliys and couples alike will be returning 2020
"Great location, the cottage was lovely with everything you could need."
Comfortable beds, great showers, beautiful scenery around you. We absolutely loved it and would return.
"We loved our stay at Cherry cottage."
I found Sykes was excellent to deal with, responded quickly to email query and phoned to confirm requests. The cottage was lovelt, spacious, clean and tidy. A couple of things to mention, we could have done with more than 4 loo rolls for 10 of us for 2 nights. We ended up going to the shop to buy more which was a bit inconvenient. We did ask for all the rooms to have twin beds but 2 of the rooms were still doubles. Fridge freezer wasn't working on arrival but quickly sorted. The welcome pack was a nice touch, would be nice to maybe have ice trays filled in the freezer for arrival. We would have loved a few little blankets so we could take advantage of the outside space more on the cooler evenings. There was lots of wildlife in the woods behind the cottage including a little deer that kept popping up and Mrs and Mr Duck who visited every morning to see what they could get for breakfast! Thanks for a a lovely stay
"The cottage is ideally located for exploring the beautiful area around lake Windermere."
The cottage is very well equipped and conveniently laid out, the hot tub is just an added bonus, particularly after a long day hiking. The site staff are friendly and helpful. This is the second year we have stayed in this cottage and we'll definitely be back again next year.
"Cottage was beautiful and in a very good location."
Facilities within the cottage were excellent and it was very clean. Would definitely recommend and we will certainly return!
"Great location, great house, fabulous all round and lovely lady who I emailed regarding any queries or extra questions."
"Relaxing in a beautiful setting."
..chilling out in the hot tub with lovely views
"Amazing stay for 10 people, clean, modern & close to the town."
Couldn’t of asked for more.
"The location was great An easy 20 mins walk into bowness Facilities ..."
The location was great An easy 20 mins walk into bowness Facilities outstanding Can I suggest a bath/shower mat needed please as quite slippy surface Otherwise a perfect weekend retreat
"The cottage was clean, warm and beautifully presented."
Contact with the owner was excellent. The only criticism was the directions to the cottage on the Sykes website. They did not take into account that not everyone has a satnav.
"An excellent stay with yourselves."
Couldn't have been happier. Each bedroom and bathroom was clean and tidy and we loved the Hot Tub and Log burner. The tiny issue we had was that we couldn't find/didn't have salt or pepper in the house - I know it's not compulsory to have but it'd have just ticked every single box - a rating of 99/100 without it. Thanks from some very happy Customers. :-)
"Cherry woodland cottage was lovely, the only criticisms we had were there could have been a few more coat hangers."
Also when we arrived on the weekend the neighbours we think in the big house were extremely noisy, also every time the immediate neighbours moved a chair (which they done quite often especially late at night) you could hear them dragging the chairs across the wood floor! We loved the hot tub and my daughters used it morning and night. The accomodation was in a lovely setting my daughter watched the wildlife every morning, the walk to Windermere via the footpath was more than a 15 minute walk but very pretty. All the villages in the surrounding area were very pretty Coniston was a lovely place and we travelled up to Keswick which is worth a visit. All in all a lovely holiday.
"Spacious and clean, everything provided to make your stay a home from home, couldn’t ask for anything more!"
Internet a little temperamental at times, that’s the only negative we found!
"The cottage was unbelievable everybody was blown away by it, also how peaceful it was definitely booking again."
"The cottage was beautiful and so clean and tidy."
We had everything we could want and more with the peaceful surroundings and great facilities. The hot tub was great and was checked everyday (discreetly) to ensure it was working correctly. The town of Bowness was a 15 min walk down hill or a 5 min (£5) taxi ride back up the hill! Would recommend and would certainly visit again.
"Great setting over looking the woodland of the lakes."
The house was great and just what we needed to celebrate my 50th birthday. You had thought of everything and we all loved it :-)
"The thing we could complain about was the noise for one of the cottages or big house at the back of us."
It was very loud up until around four in the morning.
"1. The ground floor shower room was not suitable for use by anyone with a mobility problem as there is high step up into the shower and nothing to hold onto [ eg."
grab rails] when entering or leaving the shower. I was unable to shower during our stay but had to make do with standing to wash. I did enquire about suitability of shower use before booking and felt misled. Also the shower room is so small that it is difficult to use. The hand wash basins are cloakroom size making it awkward for tooth cleaning without banging into the wall. The ground floor shower room is approximately 7 feet x by less than 3 feet wide then hand wash basin 10 inches deep and a shower and toilet fitted into the space. Not much room for comfort ! The showers were difficult for the able bodied among us due the bi-fold doors. 2. Without moving and making use of the hot-tub steps and the cigarette end box it was not possible for me to use the patio area due to high steps again . 3. Although access to the communal on-site open fields and woodlands is advertised the gates , apart from one we found, have notices saying 'KEEP OUT' 4. Overall it was a disappointing experience because it did not meet the expectations implied by the advertising which uses the word ' luxury' when there was an overall meanness of spirit in that it , although was very comfortable in some ways, failed in others such as cheap small sized cutlery, rather worn kitchen goods, no pegs for hanging washing on line, no spare toilet paper and minimal hospitality welcome. I do understand that this a self-catering holiday but its not the cheapest and the advertising raises expectations which are not met. 5. Some aspects of my complaints we could have easily overlooked but not the difficulty of not being able to use a shower . The expectations on arrival were were lessened by a notice saying 'overflow car park' when we felt were going to a quiet cottage in the country side and there were a lot more buildings on the site not shown in the advertising. 6. I have now spent a great deal of time , on several occasions , pointing out the shortcomings of this holiday let when I would much preferred to have come home feeling more relaxed and less stressed about the lack of quality regarding our stay. 7. Sadly and lastly we may not book with Sykes Cottages again as our recent holiday experiences have failed in one or more ways as I expect your records show.
"Fabulous accommodation in a secluded spot not far from town adjoining a handful of other similar cottages."
Modern decor, well appointed kitchen, large cosy living room & 5 comfortable bedrooms. Everything was perfect for our recent stay, including the weather! Would highly recommend.
"Great place to stay!"
10 of use stayed here for a weekend away and had a lovely experience. The size of the cottage and facilities were excellent for the number in our group and the running of the cottage was really straight forward, including operating the log burner, smart TV, sound bar and hot tub. We are already looking at booking again for later in the year. Many thanks
"The brochure pictures doesn’t do it justice ."
It’s far better than the promotion package.
