  • "We had a wonderful stay."

Literally the best UK stay that we've done. The barn was so beautifully finished with no corners having been cut. All excellent quality furniture and everything that you could possibly need in the kitchen. A cupboard full of board games, outdoor games, books to read. It was so comfortable with lots of blankets to use too. It was so clean and all of the bedding, towels, blankets etc smelt of lovely fresh washing. Have already recommended it to everyone I know and we will definitely be back.

We’re so glad you loved the barn and had such a good holiday. We look forward to welcoming you back again! Property Owner

That’s great to hear - looking forward to welcoming you back soon! Thank you Property Owner

  • "We had the pleasure of staying Hollowgill Barn."

The pictures do not do it justice, it is an absolutely incredible barn on such beautiful land. It is not mentioned how enclosed the garden is but it is properly secure. It sits on around 1 acre of gorgeous hillside land and it has secure new fences and chicken wire all around. This was perfect for our dog as he had the whole place to explore. We loved watching the sheep every day and having dips in the hot tub with the gorgeous views. The barn has been converted to such a high standard and the addition of the games room and lovely front room meant we were always happy there no matter the weather. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. We are so glad you loved the barn as much as we do :-) We hope you come again! Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay over Christmas but would have liked to be able to turn the heating temperature up or down ourselves."

We would have stayed in the hot tub longer if it was warmer but it cooled down very quickly. We had to clean the drawers and hoover the main bedroom as it was dirty/hairy. We had to wash the bedding in the main bedroom as it smelt stale/smokey. The main bedroom quilt has a stain of some kind on it. The wardrobe downstairs in the hallway had a drawer which was full of slippers/flip flops/clothing so was not able to use it. When we cleaned the main room floor we found under the table was very dirty and under the settee when we angled it for watching tv. The hoover did not keep its charge to be able to hoover one room, we had to charge it continuously which is not good enough when taking pets or in general. We still enjoyed our stay and it is in a lovely setting but just wanted to offer constructive advice.

We are sorry that you didn’t find everything at our excellent 5 star standard. In light of your feedback, we have changed our cleaner. We could have guided you how to change the heating and the hot tub temperature. The standard setting on the Dyson works well. We are always happy to be contacted through the Sykes App or by mobile and will do our best to resolve any issues. We take great pride in our property and hope all guests have a wonderful holiday. Thank you for your constructive feedback. Property Owner

  • "The place is amazing, we go three times a year to cottages and this one beats them all by far on every aspect."

We will be returning and would love to know when games room is completed so we can stay at that time. There is nothing bad about our stay only a few suggestions.. 1. The wine cooler fridge was not switched on and we could not see how to do that. 2. We also could not find how to switch the big outside light on at hot tub. 3. The hit tub temp was always 38 when we got in, would be nice a little hitter to be set at 40. 4. Bedding had to be removed and placed in blue IKEA bags, but we could not find these anywhere. These are minor suggestions, and would not stop us returning and we recommend the cottage 100% to our friends. Beautiful place, area and facilities. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. The upstairs conversion is now finished and has added a utility/boot room, games room and 3rd shower room. On your excellent points: 1. The switch for the wine cooler is in the bin cupboard in case been switched off 2.We have now installed a motion sensor light to help for entering & leaving the hot tub, but not affecting the beautiful night sky when in! 3. Recommended temp for hot tubs is 38. It is possible to change it though 4. Above w/machine Property Owner

The owners were extremely helpful with tips about the entrance. Informing us when there was a unexpected power cut and keeping us updated on when power was likely to be returned. The barn is extremely clean and comfortable with good laundry facilities. Would definitely recommend this accommodation.

  • "It is very difficult to share feedback, (only because we don't want to share such a wonderful property & location with too many others!"

). The Barn has been lovingly restored to the highest possible standard. From the kitchen utensils to all furnishings. The huge garden area backing on to some wonderful walking routes allowed our young spaniel to roam in safety. Not usually a fan of such things, the hot tub also tempted us when set in such perfect surroundings. In 30 years of cottage hire we've only previously been back somewhere once. The location is idyllic. This one made a 6 hour drive well worth it, we will be returning. Got to be 6 stars too.

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We’re so glad you loved the barn and its setting as much as we do. We’d be delighted to welcome you back one day :-) Property Owner

So many walks from the doorstep and if you’re happy to do a bit of driving then the Lake District and all the Yorkshire Dales are available to explore. We had some stunning days out including: Mallam Cove, Helvellyn, Windermere and Rydal Water. Hollowgill Barn is beautifully appointed with high quality fixtures and fittings. The owners have thought of just about everything needed for a stay away. We even found full laundry facilities available to us (which I’m not sure are publicised on the website). Would love to go back one day.

I was contacted by the owner on our day of arrival to confirm all was ok with the accommodation. The house was fabulous, lovely and clean, welcoming and so comfortable. The heating being on in the bathrooms was nice so we always had warm towels. We were looking for a tranquil break away and we found just that…. Looking to re-book later in the year to come back with the kids.

  • "We spent a lovely long weekend at Hollowgill Barn in December 2022."

Incredible doesn't begin to describe it. The open plan upper floor is perfect for spending time together, with no one having to seclude themselves from the rest of the group to cook. Speaking of cooking - the kitchen is incredibly well stocked. Anything one could imagine needing is right there, and then some. The bedrooms are lovely, with great views out over the fields again, the beds are incredibly comfortable, the showers great. It is lovely waking up surrounded by the sheep in the fields, and you only have to step out of your door to start a great walk through the Cumbrian countryside. With Sedbergh only being a 10 minutes drive away for your shopping, you'll not want for anything. There's really we can fault about our stay at Hollowgill Barn, you definitely won't regret booking.

About the location

SEDBERGH

Kendal 11.5 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 11.8 miles, Hawes 15.8 miles.

The attractive old market town of Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), with its old-world atmosphere, is not only set in the magnificent western dales of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the rugged eastern fells of the Lake District. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has been a thriving community for hundreds of years, with a market dating from the 13th Century. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry-stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners, and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
