"A lovely cottage with farm animals for kids to interact with and a great dog exercise area."
-
"As soon as we went through the archway into the courtyard we knew we had made the right choice."
The cottage was beautiful, well equipped and lovely little homemade treats for us when we arrived. The dog welcome pack was very good also. Walking through the courtyard and out to the back we came across the dog exercise area which our dog loved and we used everyday. It was so nice as we then met the hosts and the other guests from the two other cottages. Lovely area and great location with an added bonus of a beach nearby too. You have the best of both worlds, it can be an adventurous holiday or a chilled one. Matthew and Harry, the hosts, couldn't do anymore for us, we are already discussing our next visit.

"We spent a wonderful week in The Coach House."
It’s a truly beautiful and very comfortable home from home. It has everything you need, there is lots to see and do nearby and you're in the Lake District in around an hour. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise too. Special thanks to Matthew for returning my pocket first aid kit which we left behind. We’d love to return one day ☺️

"Fabulous property with brilliant facilities for the kids and dogs."
-
"The cottage provided us with all the facilities that we needed and was clean, fresh and very comfortable, especially as pets are allowed."
Obviously the owners take a great pride in their property. Great outside space for dogs to run wild or kids to play in a safe fenced field. Would highly recommend as a base for exploring the surrounding area or just to chill.

"Lovely place to stay, great for our dog with the enclosed field."
Second visit, won’t be our last. The pub and shops aren’t really walkable, so plan ahead with food and drink, but being away from crowds and noise is part of the appeal of the place. Recommend for a relaxing getaway.

Your home away from home
The Coach House at Brackenthwaite Farm is a former barn converted in the 1980s into a 3-bedroom property and an adjacent 2-bedroom property now called Corner Cottage (1135533).
Nestled in the heart of The Arnside and Silverdale National Landscape, just south of The Lake District, and recently refurbished in 2023, The Coach House has a stylish, modern interior whilst retaining all the charm of an old building with exposed beams and natural limestone features.
The ground floor layout is open plan to make most effective use of the space and create a inviting, inclusive living area.
Upstairs at the first level are a double bedroom, twin bedroom that overlooks The Courtyard, and family bathroom with bath and overhead shower.
Up a further half level is the master bedroom with a super king size bed or an additional twin bed setup if requested at the time if booking.
From this bedroom there are views out towards The Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Throughout, the property is extremely well maintained and includes some lovely, homely touches.
The property opens into a shared open-fronted porch with its neighbour, Corner Cottage, and both have use of the same Laundry Room that sists between the two.
In here you will find a washing machine, clothes drier, vacuum, and other cleaning equipment you may never want to look at while on holiday.
The Coach House is located in The Courtyard at Brackenthwaite Farm where you also have allocated parking for two vehicles and a wonderful view of the stables, which sometimes house the horses of other holiday makers.
Additional parking is available in The Courtyard, if required.
The Courtyard is also a prime location to watch the resident white doves as well as nesting barn swallows who visit the farm every April to September.
While The Courtyard can be fully enclosed to provide safety and security for dogs and/or children, to the front of the site just beyond The Courtyard is The Orchard.
This is a 2 ½ acre fully enclosed field that proves extremely popular with children and dogs.
In it you will find a children’s play area climbing frame, swings, and trampoline, a square pitch for playing ball sports, dog exercise area with throwers, balls and other toys provided, a ‘chill out zone’ with tree swing and bench seating, and a grand, in-ground fire pit should you wish to spend an evening with your family or friends around a crackling fire, sharing stories or toasting marshmallows.
It is from The Orchard where you might also like to start a walk that takes you on a 1-mile route around the farm estate.
On this walkabout you will pass some lovely views and sights including an enclosed wildlife area, new wooded areas, an open wildflower meadow, and meet some of the other resident animals onsite including Kunekune pigs, sheep, goats, hens, ducks, and other poultry.
All of these are pets, there for enhancing the visitor experience.
The latter also provide some of the most excellent free-range eggs!
The property comes with a charcoal fired BBQ as standard, to be used at your pleasure.
A smaller fire pit is also available with no additional charge by request during your stay.
Note: This property can be booked with Refs. 1135531 and 1135533 to sleep up to 12 guests in total.
Brackenthwaite Farm
Brackenthwaite Farm offers a collection of three holiday properties located in the picturesque Arnside and Silverdale National Landscape on the border between North Lancashire and The South Lakes in Cumbria. Set within ten acres of its own private grounds, here you can enjoy a variety of onsite facilities including a 2 ½ acre fully enclosed field that is perfect for exercising dogs. Take a stroll yourselves around the site on a 1-mile path that weaves you past a miniature wildlife area and meet their resident farm animals of sheep, goats, and kunekune pigs – all pets – along the way. All properties are newly modernised and fully equipped for your needs. The owners take great care of their properties and the site ensuring everything is exceptionally clean and properly maintained. Each property benefits from its own private space and semi-private outdoor area, as well as access to the shared spaces such as The Courtyard, Rose Garden, and Orchard. Brackenthwaite Farm can be hired out as a full site to accommodate up to 12 people and host a special occasion such as a family gathering or birthday celebration. Due to its setting within one of The UK’s most diverse and unspoilt natural landscapes, Brackenthwaite Farm is perfect for those who enjoy walking, hiking, and exploring new areas. The area is rich with ancient woodlands, intimate meadows, sandy beaches, limestone walls, buildings, and natural pavements, and some wonderful hillsides to climb for some incredible views across the bay and on towards The Lake District or The Yorkshire Dales. Within all these unique habitats there are more than half of all Britain’s flowering plant species, and an abundance of life that this supports. Places to visit and some of the local attractions in the immediate area are Arnside and Silverdale, Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve, Arnside Knott and Warton Crag, RSPB Leighton Moss, and several sites owned and managed by The National Trust and Wildlife Trust. Other attractions include the Leighton Hall Estate, Sizergh Castle, and Levens Hall with its fine topiary gardens that are the oldest in the world. Further afield but also well worth visiting are Lake Windermere in The Lake District, the beautiful village of Ambleside, The World of Beatrix Potter, Lancaster Castle, and the promenade at Morecambe for its unrivalled views across the bay. So, whether it’s an active holiday you seek surrounded by nature and charming countryside, or a complete switch-off from life’s everyday stressors, you can find exactly what you need at Brackenthwaite Farm.
Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
