  • "Such a perfectly placed cottage!"

We loved staying at Rockville as there is parking for two cars right in the middle of Hawes! Linen and towels were provided although the cottage details did not specify this. We liked the new key collection box which made arrival very easy. The owner was very helpful when I spoke to her 48 hours before we came to the Dales.

All facilities literally on you doorstep,butcher/baker,supermarket.papershop,pubs,resteraunt all within seconds of the door yet the position of the cottage keeps any street noise away.I cant praise it enough and would highly recommend.

  • "This is a welcoming, comfortable cottage in an ideal location."

It's obviously been furnished and kitted out with care. The facilities were all that we needed for a great holiday. We had a great holiday here, it's in a good location for either walking directly from the cottage or for touring around the Dales. We found it particularly good that we could walk out in the evenings around Hawes. The market place and facilities of Hawes are just around the corner. and yet this is in a quiet location. There's plenty of space to relax when you're back in the cottage.

  • "The location of Rockville in the town of Hawes is superb."

It is quiet and feels secluded whilst being 50 yards from the main street. In particular, having a garage available plus a sun drenched patio area was the icing on the cake for us. The sun shone all week! We will return to Rockville because of the above.

  • "Very cosy, comfortable and well equipped house."

We had everything we needed and it was a great bonus to be so close to the town centre and be able to stroll to the local shops and pubs !! The house was very clean and tidy and the beds were comfortable and the shower was good and hot. The owner (Sheila) was friendly welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended for a stay in Hawes and it was a great location from which to explore the wonderful Dales. It was also fantastic to be able to park the car at the property. The stairs in the house are steep and may be a problem for people with mobility issues. Maybe the addition of a downstairs toilet would be a good development ? Lastly, having to be out of the property at 9am was but early for us !! Overall we had a great experience at Rockville and would use it again for further trips to the Dales

  • "Enjoyed our stay at Rockville, great location in the centre of Hawes."

Parking available in a locked garage behind the cottage so no trouble finding a space. We had good food in the white hart pub and also from the chip shop and pizza shop in the town too so you don't have to travel to get good quality food. Owner very friendly and only lived local so easy for dropping off and collecting the key. Would happily come back and recommend to friends and family.

Big and sunny kitchen. Sunny patio. Good view from the bedroom (the one with 3 beds) in the nature. Absolutely no view from the diningroom and the livingroom. Hawes is a good place to stay for hiking and exploring the beautiful Dales.

  • "We have just returned from a week at Rockville in Hawes."

We were blessed with sunny weather all week and a fantastic cottage to stay in. Rockville is a traditional cottage but has all the modern touches to give a very comfortable holiday. It is tucked just behind the main street in Hawes, but no traffic noise gets through, ensuring a very quiet night's sleep. The house is double fronted, very spacious, immaculately clean with lovely carpets and furnishings. Everything you could possibly need is available. The bedrooms have very comfortable beds with good quality bedding. The bathroom is large and newly fitted with a super shower and separate bath. Mrs Alderson the owner, is very friendly and approachable and lives near to the cottage and is on hand if anything is required. There is plenty of parking and the views behind the cottage are wonderful, as are all the superb walks around Hawes. I can see why this cottage has lots of return bookings. It is a jewel indeed. Well done Mrs Alderson!

The cottage was extremely clean and tidy and in a prime position to explore the village and beyond and Mrs Alderson was the perfect host, especially when we thought the cooker had broken. It was us and not the appliance we had not realised you had to have the "hand" position on the timer to activate the fan oven!!!! Would definitely come back to Rockville in beautiful Hawes.

  • "This cottage was very well situated in the delightful little town of Hawes."

It really had everything we wanted and was very convenient for pubs, shops etc. and for local walks. Cottage owners were very welcoming and helpful. We arrived just as the weather turned very cold and the only slight drawback was the lack of heating in the hall, stairs area, which felt quite cold. Upstairs was also slightly chilly ( storage heaters not quite adequate), but both rooms were easily heated by the electric fires and were very cosy. All in all this was a very good holiday and we will probably return to Rockville.

    Reviewed by JerryNov 2016

  • "The cottage itself was cosy, well equipped and immaculately clean."

We had a few blips, in that the electric fire in the living room was really noisy, we could not fathom out the storage heaters times or temperatures, and we hadn't realised that the oven needed to have the timer on in order to work, hence a cold meat pie which we had to microwave, all of which we laughed about! Our main difficulty was the outside stairs leading to the garage and patio, which were really steep and hard to manoeuvre when you're battling with age and lack of physical mobility, perhaps this needs mentioning in the cottage description. The cottage is in an ideal location, being central and affording its own parking, which in peak times is a real bonus. Indeed, we would book again, except for the accessibility issues as it was very reasonably priced.

The lady who holds the key was very pleasant and was available if we had needed anything. It was very clean and warm when we arrived. We love Hawes and surrounding areas and have stayed in Hawes before, unable to get the cottage we wanted Rockville became a available and we were not dissapointed. The only suggestion I would like make is a feed back book in the cottage itself. We would have liked to thank the lady who looks after the cottage as it was a pleasure to stay there.

About the location

Leyburn 16 miles.

Hawes is a popular market town in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire and is regarded as one of the honeypot tourist attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Standing between Buttertubs and Fleet Moss, the town is an excellent centre for walking and touring Wensleydale and the adjoining dales of Swaledale, Cotterdale, Dentdale, Garsdale, Wharfedale and Chapel-le-Dale. Take a walk around the Hawes Town Trail, Millennium Walk, Pennine Way or along the River Ure, which is nearby. In 1998 Hawes was awarded the English Tourist Board Silver Award for the "Best Day Trip Out". Modern traffic has long replaced coaches and horse drawn wagons along its narrow streets, but market day (Tuesdays) in Hawes is as busy as ever, with a farmers’ auction attracting sheep farmers from all over the north of England. Traditional shops, cafés and inns now cater for a variety of Dales visitors as well as the local community. The award-winning Wensleydale Creamery, made famous by the animated Wallace and Grommit films, is now open to visitors so that they can see the famous cheese being made and sample the end product in a welcoming café. In the old station yard you will find the busy National Park Centre and Dales Countryside Museum. The Museum is home to the magnificent collection of Dales artefacts by the two great Dales historians and writers, Marie Hartley and Joan Ingilby.
