  • "Absolutely gorgeous cottage!"

It was immaculate, could not fault it. Beds and couches were very comfy. Felt so relaxed after staying there, wish we could have stayed longer! Dawn was very helpful when I emailed her about shops/restaurants/walks near by. Will be looking to book here again next year! Thank you❣️

Thank you for your lovely comments and are pleased that you enjoyed your recent stay. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "We stayed at the property over the new year, it is a beautiful place and very well furnished."

It was spotless and nice and warm when we arrived. I don’t think that we have any negative comments regarding the property and would definitely book again. The warning regarding driving to the property (if following sat nav) needs to be heeded if arriving at night. This does mean driving on local roads which has frequent passing points

  • "As previously stated the property is to an extremely high standard, as you'd expect."

Extremely comfy beds and great drying room/utility space. Lovely to have dining space/crockery for the no of inhabitants, something you can't always rely on. Dawn was particularly accommodating pre stay and having left and brought away items incorrectly!! Space for our 3 cars and a van, at a pinch, just narrow roads as access but that was not unsolvable. Sorry for using up the First Aid kit!

The cottage was to five star quality. The lovely touches like the flowers chocolate and Prosecco on arrival was really welcoming. The property was clean, well equipped kitchen, plenty of towels and beautiful ambiance. The owners were really welcoming , we had a mini tour around the farm and got to pet the baby calves . We loved the walks around the cottage and visited the lakes which is around a 40 mins drive . Loved getting up early to watch the cows being fed and the sheep dog do it’s thing ! Will defo go back and recommend it to friends and family . Thank you for an amazing break in a beautiful cottage.

Lot's of good fell walking in the area. Good facilities in Sedbergh although it is down a narrow lane. The only negative aspect was some loud music from the neighbour on 2 afternoons.

It is very well equipped with many extras provided such as tea towels, hand soap, dishwasher tablets, kitchen towel etc. We were greeted with fresh flowers, milk, water and Prosecco and tea and coffee were provided. All the furnishings and fixtures are of excellent quality with very comfortable beds. Would highly recommend this property.

The barn is well equipped, the views when standing at the kitchen island are breathtaking. The beds are comfortable so you wake refreshed every morning. The owners who live and run a farm were very helpful. Don’t go the way the sat nav suggests the 6’6” bridge Is not for the faint hearted. Do take the advice of the owners!

Spotlessly clean (a high priority at the moment) with soap and cleaning materials provided. The property is well equipped with everything you'd need in the kitchen. Owner was friendly and helpful without imposing and the stunning location made for another memorable stay.

We all loved it. Owners put out flowers and chocolates as welcome gift which was a lovely touch. They also let us take our little girl to see the baby calves and cows on the farm. Cleanliness was done to a high standard. Rooms were big and bed comfort was great! Standard of the whole place was outstanding. We will be going back there as we loved it that much.

  • "We all had a fantastic time at The Ridings."

The house was beautiful with all the facilities we needed. The views were spectacular and there were some nice walks, however a little too far to walk to the village so good job we took everything we could possibly need. There was even welcome gifts which was a lovely touch. The narrow bridge on the way in was a little scary, tight squeeze but we made it! Only a couple of small things were the stools in the kitchen were too big for the breakfast bar so you couldn’t sit on them and the shower in the tv bedroom didn’t drain quickly and filled up within minutes but we managed! Great time had in a lovely house with great friends.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed being in the cottage."

Everything was spotless. All of the facilities we needed for cooking, eating, recreation and sleeping were available. The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms roomy, the bedding clean and modern. The single drawback, not the fault of the owners, was the width of the access lane for our rather large SUV's meeting oncoming traffic, especially tractors. Having said that, it was manageable and was without incident. Also recommended, the pies at the Dalesman in town!!!

We loved the barn, as the four generous bedrooms could easily accomadate us. The kitchen was large and extremely well appointed with lots of oven and fridge space. There was also an efficient gas BBQ. But best of all we walked both days from the barn, which is always a treat. There were no really local shops or eating places, so we stayed put and made use of the kitchen and ate in, which was no hardship. Thank you Dawn.

  • "The property is lovely and situated in a beautiful location out in the countryside."

It has all you need inside and extremely comfortable beds! The one thing we didn’t fully appreciate until getting there is the lack of garden apart from the area in front of the house where you park the car. One reviewer mentioned a field to play in but we didn’t find this.

More info could be useful for living In the property e.g. Recycling and what to do when leaving. One of the access roads is only 6'6" wide over stone walled bridge - take note drivers of wide cars there is no leeway. Road up from Sedbergh is fine though.

  • "We loved our experience at the barn, very well maintained and detailed."

The only thing we'd add is that the description should maybe be a little clearer to explain that there is no real outside garden area other than the patio table and chairs. The photos give you an idea of the place, and certainly the description doesn't mention garden, but I think on reflection we'd not realised that there was no real garden space per se just views of the lovely landscape and although you could obviously walk, some families may want garden space as well. Which wasn't a problem but maybe needs to be spelt out.

  • "An excellently presented property in an idyllic location, well recommended as a getaway retreat in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside."

However, there is one minor pitfall and that is the extremely narrow bridge leading to the property having come from the M6 motorway direction. the bridge is literally only 6' 6" wide meaning a normal sized car just fits through with a few inches to spare! We did find an alternative route turning left at the bottom of the lane leading directly into Sedbergh. Do not let the bridge of doom put you off, the place is simply superb.

About the location

Kendal 12 miles; Hawes 15 miles.

Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), set at the foot of the dramatic and wild Howgill Fells, is an ancient market town in northern Dentdale. Sedbergh is situated just inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is only 12 miles from the Lake District National Park. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has an olde worlde atmosphere. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
