  • "We had a lovely time, we were warm and comfortable in a lovely home that was beautiful but not so fussy with arty stuff to make us nervous with two energetic boys."

We will definitely be coming for a longer stay with the rest of our grandchildren as soon as we can.

It was wonderful. However, due to circumstances I could only stay for one night. The bedrooms were fantastic, extremely comfy beds, quality linens. One point would be to have had the heating on prior to our arrival. Also, a very basic welcome pack would be an advantage to provide maybe milk and sugar. I had read previous reviews and had noticed a thank you from previous guests for a welcome pack on arrival so presumed milk ect.. would have been provided. However, overall an enjoyable and restful stay.

It fits in with the surroundings! The beds are really comfortable with quality duvets and linen. Plenty of crockery and cutlery. The log burning stove is a real bonus and pleasure to sit round in the lovely lounge. Non-intrusive owners attached, who were a pleasure to meet and talk to. Lots of great walks. It’s reasonably remote, but not totally. AND a wonderful pub 100 metres away.

  • "Lovely house in a beautiful and tranquil location."

Wonderful walks abound and the Queens Arms is a great pub but be sure to book. There was a generous and plentiful supply of logs and coal which made for cosy evenings by the fire. The only downside we encountered was the uncomfortable bed in the balcony room - the mattress was old and the springs around the edges had failed completely. There was a mattress topper but that didn't make a difference. As there were just the two us we were able to swap to the front bedroom which was excellent and very comfortable. The views from all the rooms are lovely and the front garden is a real suntrap.

Thank you for letting me know about the mattress. Lovely new one now in place. Property Owner

We felt at home as soon as we stepped through the door. The garden and garden furniture was perfect for sitting out in the evening and we made good use of that. It was clean, warm, and comfortable, spacious and very well equipped. The furnishing and decoration was understated and tasteful, and we quickly felt at home. The welcome basket with wine, shortbread, coffee and tea was a nice touch; the feeling we had throughout was that the owners were doing their best to provide everything we could want. There was loads of hot water in showers with plenty of pressure, unlimited logs and coal for the cosy woodburner... I could go on, but you get the picture. The location for walking was excellent - we walked every day from the front door - and the provision of a stack of laminated routes from short strolls to massive challenges, with both descriptions and maps, made it really easy to select something suitable. Being less than a hundred yards from the friendly welcome of the Queens Arms was the icing on the cake - we ate there on Saturday and had a superb meal (both veggies and lamb pie fans); their award winning Bakewell tart is a thing of beauty. I don't generally gush like this, but I can't recommend this cottage enough.

  • "We have stayed in many lovely cottages over the last 20 years or so, and this is one of the very best: possibly the actual best."

The cottage has been expertly designed not just decorated: there is a clear style throughout the house, a careful mix of “traditional countryside” and “modern global”. Well chosen objects and artwork from other countries sit perfectly alongside the cottage features of stone walls, a wood burning stove, exposed beams. Both bathrooms are crisp and modern, balancing the rich fabrics of the bedrooms. Modern art and lighting fittings illuminate the rooms metaphorically as well as literally. This is a very harmonious place to stay: we left feeling aesthetically as well as physically relaxed and refreshed. It was also spotlessly clean and very well equipped: at last, a kitchen with some sharp knives! I can’t recommend here highly enough. Where’s the 6th star in the ratings?

We had already booked a table at the Queens Arms down the food - excellant food and service. Storm Arwen was starting to make an appearance as we made our way back to the cottage. We woke up the next day to a beautiful snowy outlook but no power at all! All I can say is thank goodness for Kath who came round early with a camping stove, kettle, torches, fresh water and instructions to get the fire going as soon as possible. We then spent a glorious day inside by the fire, music playing on the fully charged Bose speaker provided - a perfect start to our holiday! Went into Skipton later the following day for supplies and returned early evening to the power back on. The cottage is beautiful, keeping its character with lots of mod cons and lovely new appliances (I love the radiators!) with more than enough utensils etc. We especially loved the wildlife - daily alarm call from the sheep in the field over the road and the cheeky robin who came calling each day for his breakfast. About the location

Grassington 10 miles; Settle 12 miles

Litton is a picturesque village of traditional historic stone-built dwellings and a characterful public house. This idyllic village makes the perfect place from which to explore the wonderful scenery and pretty villages of this magnificent Dale. The river Skirfare flows through Littondale, and is fed from the slopes of one of the Dales 3 Peaks, Pen-y-Ghent. The beauty of the classic limestone countryside, with silvery dry-stone walls and field barns, which are part of an ancient agricultural landscape is unique. Through flower-rich hay meadows you can access the river on stepping stones or by crossing the river by footbridge when the water is in spate and enjoy the riverside walk to Arncliffe where you can refresh yourself upon arrival at the Falcon Inn, where food is also available.
