"Great location for Coast to Coast walk."
However property description requires amendment. Conservatory is actually a porch. Low ceilings and beams make the house uncomfortable for anyone above 5 ft 7 - my husband is 6 ft and spent entire week continually bending. Entrance to bedrooms 2 and 3 only 5 ft clearance. En-suite completely unventilated. No fan operating plus saniflo system on toilet made loud grinding noise on each flush, also drain aroma made it unpleasant to use. King Mattress requires replacement as unable to support two adults. Kitchen very dated and in poor condition aside from fridge freezer. Lounge - unable to use as settees gave off smoke aroma so used the only two comfortable chairs in the house in the kitchen diner. We are on holiday and not there to carry out property inspections and thus refuse to inform owners whilst there. We appreciate the rental cost for the property is lower than elsewhere in borrowdale but there must be minimum standards and in our view Castle Lodge does not meet them.
I appreciate your comments and seek to eleviate problems that are not structural therefore hope to keep Castle Lodge as comfortable as possible Thank You Joanne. Property Owner
"A beautiful location, in a traditional, beamed cottage."
The cottage is old fashioned and quirky, but has everything you need, with stunning views and a log fire! We felt right at home and relaxed! Board games and dvd player along with a GameCube are provided to keep the kids amused. Good WiFi kept us connected, as there is no phone signal in the valley. There is a washing machine and drier in an outhouse. The conservatory and small garden are peaceful and a great place for soaking in the Borrowdale views. A short walk to the Riverside where we saw lots of local wildlife. Short walk to lovely teashop and local pubs. Plenty of valley or hill walks accessible from the door. We will definitely be back!
You seem to have soaked up the essence of Castle Lodge thankyou for your comments and I look forward to meeting you on your next booking Joanne Property Owner
"Totally satisfied with the property and the facilities."
Superb quiet location with 360 degree beautiful views. Plenty of excellent walks from the cottage. Excellent all round choice and highly likely that will return.
You are most kind thankyou for your response and I am hoping you will like a return visit that's the plan Joanne Property Owner
"We liked the holiday cottage, it's very quirky, great walks from the house."
"A lovely cottage, lots of character and it really feels like a home from home."
Stunning scenery and perfect location. Very friendly owner. We really enjoyed our stay, it was so relaxing and we would love to come back again.
Your so kind thankyou I think the location is a winner too ! Joanne Property Owner
"We really enjoyed our stay here."
It is slightly quirky being a very old cottage that has been extended at some point, but we loved it for that. It is full of character, very homely and comfy. The location is brilliant. It is really quiet so you feel surrounded by nature. The perfect spot for exploring Borrowdale on foot or by bus, we only used the car to do food shopping in Keswick. The owner is really friendly and welcoming. Thank you for an incredibly relaxing 2 weeks!
Your most welcome glad you felt the cosy surroundings and homely snugness Joanne Property Owner
"A uniquely characterful and brilliantly situated cottage."
"A great cottage, in a great location."
"Lovely old cottage in the most beautiful valley in Lakeland."
Quiet and peaceful with spectacular views. Walks from the door. Had a great holiday would recommend.
"A very comfortable and cosy cottage, in the perfect location for walking, with plenty of space for 6 adults."
There was plenty of wood, coal and lighters for the fire and the kitchen had all the utensils and items you would need. It was 16 years since we last visited Castle Lodge, we won't leave it as long next time.
"Lovely property, full of character but mind your heads, there are some low beams."
Fantastic location for walking, and good food to eat out locally. Owner very helpful. What more could you want?
Thankyou Nick great feedback to shorter people might mention most of the house has high ceilings that's the price of a character cottage ! see you again hopefully all welcome Property Owner
"All I need to say is that this is the 3rd time we've stayed at Castle Lodge, and we'll be back!"
"Lovely stay in fabulous cottage, the pictures don’t do it justice."
Very well equipped, if you’ve forgotten something it’s probably already there. Garden is a sun trap however we did visit during a heatwave as I don’t think ive ever been to the lakes and it not rain. Was nice watching the birds after a long day of walking. Nice complimentary pack of biscuits and pint of milk on arrival and phone call from Joanne (owner) with some useful info on local walks and plunge pool. Overall we all had a great time.
"Fabulous cottage in a great location."
Full of character with 2 living spaces and great views.
"All of our family absolutely loved this cottage."
It was warm and cosy with a lovely open fire which was actually lit for us when we arrived. The location was stunning and there are lots of opportunities for walks direct from the cottage without having to drive. Would definitely book again.
"Very good base to explore Borrowdale from with an excellent location of property and a pleasure to spend time in accomadation with comfort and warmth throughout would not hesitate to highly recommend."
"Our 2nd time at Castle Lodge, the first being a long weekend in February for Storm Ciara!"
This time the weather was perfect, which combined with the very comfortable and quiet cottage made for a great week Castle Lodge is in a perfect location for countless walks, involving either no or minimal driving
"The location was excellent, and was a cosy place to sit out Storm Ciara!"
Recommend you stock up in Keswick before arrival, as there's nothing local (The Youth Hostel will sell some milk if caught short)
"The cottage had lots of character and was very comfortable."
We liked having the separate dining room with a couple of armchairs in.
"Love the fact that there was extra equipment such as torches and umbrellas and extra kitchen equipment."
House was comfortable and homely and very convenient for plenty of walks. Only complaint was that the oven was dirty.
