  • "Valley View in Dallyon-in-Furness was one of the best stays we've had in Cumbria!"

Even though we saw some negative reviews beforehand, we couldn’t find any real faults. If I had to be extra critical, maybe having some coffee powder or kitchen towels would’ve been nice, but everything else was perfect. The space is ideal for 24 people, with lots of room for the kids to run around. The kitchen and dining area were fantastic, and it truly felt like a home away from home. The number of bathrooms was great, and the hot tub was a standout! Plus, the property is well-built so sound doesn’t carry—another big bonus. Highly recommend for large groups looking for a comfortable, spacious retreat!

Thank you so much for your amazing 100/100 feedback! We are absolutely delighted that you had such a good time. We have carried out some refurbishment work at Valley View recently and will continue to do so to make sure all of our guests have a 100/100 experience. The hot tub is always popular! We'd love to welcome you back. Kindest Regards Julie Property Owner

Thank you so much for the feedback. The oven gloves was an oversight and should have been supplied so I'm sorry they were not. We have checked the pots and feel there is enough but will monitor this and if need be we can get more and occasionally due to weather conditions we can't get the grass cut just before guests arrive so I hope it didn't impact your stay to much and appreciate you saying other than these minor issues it was fabulous. • "This property has huge potential and overall as we made do with what we had we were happy with our stay."

However unfortunately there were a number of issues which aren’t really acceptable in a stay of this size. 1. Firstly the cooker was out of action. We were given small electric conductors which kept cutting out and simply didn’t provide enough heat for the large pots we were trying to cook in (25+ people). The camping gas conductors were an improvement but the 4 gas canisters finished in no time. The engineer was unable to fix the cooker even though we were told it would be fixed on the third day. 2. The boiler was not working on arrival. The downstairs and 2 bathrooms upstairs did not have hot water. People shared bathrooms in the first night but this was inconvenient. 3. After the plumber came to fix the boiler we still had no use of the thermostat to put the heating on. It was cold for August with a storm most evenings. Despite being told the electrician would come we heard nothing for the rest of the stay. 4. Unfortunately certain parts of the house were not properly cleaned on arrival I.e downstairs bathrooms. 5. The conservatory room started leaking on our final night. Albeit there was a pretty bad storm but it did leave a large puddle in the morning. 6. The shower pressure in most bathrooms was poor and also the bathtub in many didn’t drain quick enough. 7. There wasn’t enough toilet roll for the number of bathrooms/guests. These were the main issues. In reality we think we should be compensated c.10% of our costs for these problems.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm pleased to say the cooker is fixed and unfortunately the engineer had to order and wait for the parts so this took longer than expected. The plumber came out to fix the boiler and has confirmed he left the heating on 21 degrees. You then called the out of hour team to say you wanted it increasing so they did that for you as requested. As I am sure you will appreciate, Valley View is a huge property and unfortunately maintenance issues do crop up from time to time which are dealt with as quickly as possible by our dedicated team. As you arrived early...the property managers let you in to the games room area of the house whilst they finished the cleaning which included the bathroom you mention. They told you they were not finished so this was done with you in situ. The property is self catering so you are expected to bring things like toilet rolls, black bin bags and dishwasher tablets with you! We leave 2 toilet rolls in every W/C as a gesture of good will just in case you forget to bring any so it total we left you 14 toilet rolls!.. All feedback is appreciated so we can continue to improve our guests experience. Kindest Regards Julie Property Owner

  • "Valley View is one half of a converted hotel in the middle of the unpretentious town of Dalton, just 5 minutes drive from the stunning Cumbrian coast."

It is incredibly spacious and whilst some of bedroom furniture and general woodwork could do with updating, the decor is generally in keeping with a grand old hotel. Highlights include a fabulous games room, multiple lounges and an enclosed garden. The large kitchen could really do with a second fridge and a new cooker hob. Yes, there were some issues which are to be expected with a property of this size and age - the conservatory roof leaked and the power tripped on a couple of occasions - but the maintenance team dealt with each of our calls within the hour. At over £8k for a week in August, I think the price point was a little high, compared to similar properties I have stayed in. But overall, Valley View is a wonderful property for a large, multi-generational gathering within a short drive of a stunning National Trust beach and also close to the Lakes.

Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. All feedback is really important as it means we can continue to improve our guests experience. I'm pleased to say that we have made significant improvements to Valley View since your stay 2nd August. Many of the bedrooms have been decorated, we now have an additional large American style fridge freezer so there are 2. The hob is less than a year old and unfortunately developed a fault but again I am pleased to report has been fixed and in perfect working order. I hope these issues didn't impact your stay and as you say Valley View is a wonderful property perfectly located for all Cumbria and The Lakes have to offer. Kindest Regards Julie Property Owner

  • "Valley View is a lovely place, it has the potential to be great."

The house was a great place for our large family get away. It could do with some upgrading. The furniture was a bit grubby with a lot of marks a stains on the sofas and chairs. The kitchen area is lovely and very modern, we had to phone the out of hours service to find the cutlery as it is hidden in a secret draw, within a draw. The hot tub is a lovely touch however the few family members who used it, only stayed in for 5 minutes as they said the water was smelly and felt a bit grubby, they had to get out and shower. Overall we had a lovely stay, but it just feels like a bit of TLC is needed especially given the price we paid.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Feedback from guests is really important as it means that we can continue to improve our properties. I have passed your comments to the cleaning team regarding the sofas and chairs. The cutlery draw as you'll now know is in the top slim draw on the island in the kitchen and this information is in the guests manual which was emailed to you prior to your visit and also in the guest manual at the property so sorry if you missed that. The hot tub is emptied, cleaned, re-filled and treated before any guest arrival so I am surprised to here that you felt you couldn't use it and I wish you had called the out of hours team as they would have been able to help. I am please to hear that you had a lovely stay and once again thanks for the feedback. Kindest Regards Julie Property Owner

It was extremely spacious and catered for all needs. We particularly enjoyed the games room and hot tub. It was lovely to be able to eat together at the spacious table overlooking the beautiful garden. The only thing that could be added is another fridge as the one provided wasn’t really big enough for the amount of people we had.

Thank you so much for leaving a wonderful 100/100 review. It's lovely to hear that guests have had a great time when staying at our properties. Valley View really is a special property and so much space for everyone to enjoy time together. It sound like you were able to make some lovely family memories . The hot tub is always popular so I'm glad you had a chance to use it. We'd love to welcome you back...Kindest Regards Julie Property Owner

  • "Hi, we had a lovely time at Valley View for a 70th and 30th birthday break."

There was 22 of us and the house was great for such a large amount of people.. A couple of minor issues but did not spoil the holiday. A small leak in a glass pane in the dining room areas which was noticed as we had rain on Saturday, we had no hot water for a period of time but contacted the number given and they returned the call promptly and told us how to rectify the problem. The house was very clean and amenities excellent, only down fall was some of the beds were a bit uncomfortable. On the whole though would go back again and we had a great weekend.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Without guest feedback we can not continue to improve our properties and our guests experience. I'm sorry to hear that the hot water wasn't working. As you know, Valley View is a large property to accommodate 24 guests so sometimes the hot water may become limited until is warms up again if everyone is having showers, washing machine, dishwasher all at the same time it can effect the temperature. There are instruction on how to boost the water in the manual but I will review it and try and make it more informative. I'm delighted to hear that you would return and we'd love to welcome you back. • "Overall the house was good."

The downstairs communal areas were excellent and easily accommodated our extended family of 24. The kitchen, dining, cosy lounge and games room were in constant use and felt very comfortable. The single large fridge we found to be in adequate for our group and in the Summer we're sure it would certainly not cope with drinks and food. The showers were pretty useless and believe there was only one that was ok out of the 7 on offer.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We really do appreciate it as it gives us the opportunity to continually improve our properties making the guests experience that more enjoyable. Valley View is an amazing property and we do try to make it home-from-home so guests have everything they need. I'm sorry to hear that you had issues with the showers. I've spoken to the out of hours team and this issue was not reported to them at the time otherwise the property managers would have came to assist in getting the showers working. It sounds like despite this you had a good time and how lovely for all 24 of you to be together in one house. Best Wishes Julie Property Owner

  • "We spent the weekend here to celebrate my Wife's 50th birthday with her family and friends."

overall our experience was satisfactory and the house games room and large kitchen were the highlights. We found the various hot water systems a little confusing to be honest and there were issues with running hot water in all rooms consistently so we had to share bathrooms to allow people to shower which was not ideal The heating systems didn't seem to work consistently either with the right side of the house feeling cold (games room side) even though the hive thermostat indicated the heating was working We used all the fire logs we bought and ended up purchasing more from Booths to keep warm We also had issues with the lighting (games room area) and electric showers with a call out required for some mains breaker switches to be reset by the emergency weekend support team

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review after your recent stay at Valley View. I'm pleased to hear overall you enjoyed your stay and I would agree that the huge kitchen/dining and lounge is a great space to spend time with family and loved ones. As Valley View is such a large property, there are various boilers and thermostats which are needed to heat the whole house. I'm sorry to hear that you experienced issues with the hot water in some rooms and if there are lots of people having showers at the same time, the dishwashers is on and perhaps the washing machine too, it can take an hour or so for the water tanks to refill. The maintenance team did report that they had been to the property to attend to switches which had tripped on the distribution board resulting in the lighting in the games room to be lost and feedback like this is really useful for us as it means we can get things fixed and continue to improve our guests experience which is incredibly important to us so thank you! The hot tub is massive and modern and fit for a large party. The beds are all large, clean and brand new, the dining facilities were just brilliant, and we had a fantastic meals across the large dining area. The kitchen itself was also tremendous. It was myself who arranged our trip, but every person from our large party personally congratulated me on my choice of housing for our trip. Everyone was blown away with the place. • "This property is truly amazing!"

I spent time there for my 70th birthday with 18 members of my family. It was so spacious we could all get together in one very large and comfy lounge and their were several other lounges and a games room for when we wanted to sit in smaller groups. My 3 year old grandson had the time of his life roaming around and playing in all of the rooms. The dining facilities were fantastic and we could all dine together very comfortably. The gardens were beautiful and the younger members of the family had a great time using the immaculately clean hot tub even though it was October and the weather was cold. Everyone who worked at the house or for Sykes were so welcoming and friendly to deal with. We just loved the house and were sad to leave it.

Thanks you s for taking the time to leave us such an amazing review! Valley View really is a spectacular property and how lovely that you and your family were able to celebrate such a special occasion there -all together. Even the photo's don't give this property justice it's not until you are there that you can appreciated all the different rooms you can use as a multi-generational family. It's important to us that our properties have that 'home-from-home' attention to detail so that you have everything you need to enjoy your stay. The hot tub is always a huge success and as you mention, the beautiful gardens make Valley View the perfect family get away. Kindest Regards Julie Property Owner

One shower not working small oven not been cleaned garden not looked after full of weeds garden furniture in need of paint not at all like photos we rang about lots of ants inside but no one rang back we sorted it ourselves

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at Valley View. As you will have seen there was lots of brand new garden furniture at Valley View but there is some of the previous garden furniture available too so I hope you were able to use the ample new furniture for your stay. As you will appreciate often the gardening works that need to be regularly carried out at the huge gardens of Valley View can often be weather depending and if there are days of rain, which unfortunately was the case... the team can not always carry out their duties. We've been lucky enough to have been blessed with some glorious weather as of late so the gardens have been attended to but I am sorry this maybe wasn't the case when you arrived. I am available Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm for any issues which may arise during guests stay to deal with such issues as broken showers and would of asked the cleaning team to call back and re-do the oven if it had been reported to me. Regarding the out of hours team not calling back about the insect issue I can only apologise and you shouldn't of had to deal with that yourselves. I hope you managed to enjoy your stay and time with your family and friends and thank you for bringing these issues to my attention . Kindest Regards Julie Property Owner

  • "This property has not been described correctly."

It has NOT been fully refurbished and is not secure to the standard that we expected. There was rubble, paint tins, weeds and dog mess in areas of the garden when we arrived. The property and grounds are not secure and we had people looking in the windows, walking in the garden and even entering the hall to enquire if it was a café! The kitchen tap fell apart, a shower was not working at all and others were too hot and couldn't be adjusted. The curtains in one bedroom were tied up with string, headboard broken and sticky mess on carpet. The conservatory roof leaked and the windows painted shut. Other windows elsewhere were nailed shut. A small piece of plaster moulding on the ceiling fell down. A Door handle fell off in one bedroom door trapping people inside and the external door handle to the kitchen was missing. There has been some refurbishment such as to the kitchen, some of the bathrooms and some bedrooms but the property is still in need of a general overall.

First of all, let me say I was so disappointed reading your review from your recent stay at Valley View. Sometimes due to weather conditions, the gardening team cannot carry out some of their tasks but certainly shouldn’t have been paint tins in the garden. These have been left behind by the resent refurbishment works carried out. Things like the shower issues, the kitchen tap, and the door handle issues could have been addresses immediately during your visit if they had been reported to us as we have a maintenance team nearby for when these such things happen and I am sure that you will appreciate the huge property which is Valley View... things do happen from time to time that needs our attention whilst guest are staying which is why the team are readily available so if we had know, we would have acted upon it. The small leak in the conservatory has been addressed and repair arranged. I hope that despite these issues, you did manage to have a lovely time with your family. Without feedback we can not continue to improve our properties so I would like to thank you for taking the time to bring them to our attention. Kindest Regards Julie Property Owner

Valley View is a lovely place for a family gathering. The place was immaculate, large and spacious. It has be renovated just recently. All beds were extremely comfortable and looked to have brand new bedding. The kitchen is also brand new and is so big you will have trouble finding things because there is so much storage but it is all there! There are many things to do inside and places to visit just a short car ride away. The hot tub will be cold when you arrive as the water is changed for each new client. But the next morning it will be piping hot. The property has large gardens perfect for outdoor fun if you get the weather. There are 2 pubs, a Chinese take away and the Co-Op are all just a 5 minute walk away. We had a fantastic time in Valley View and would recommend it for any large gathering of people.

About the location

DALTON-IN-FURNESS

Ulverston 5 miles.

The ancient town of Dalton-in-Furness lies in a narrow valley on that part of the Furness Peninsula which extends deep into Morecambe Bay. Once the leading town of Furness, Dalton has a good selection of shops, restaurants and pubs. The architecture of the town includes some interesting buildings in and around the market place, as well as an elegant Victorian drinking fountain, the market cross and slabs of stone used for fish drying in the 19th century. The 14th-century pele tower, known as Dalton Castle, was originally a place of refuge for the monks of nearby Furness Abbey, an impressive sandstone ruin nestling in a peaceful wooded valley. Within easy reach of the town are the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, the world's only Laurel and Hardy museum at Ulverston and the Haventhwaite Steam Railway which runs to Lakeside, where you can board a steam train for Bowness or Ambleside. Just north of Dalton-in-Furness is the stunning Duddon Estuary and Duddon Valley, with Cartmel, Holker Hall and Grizedale Forest within easy reach. Situated on the edge of the Lake District National Park, and surrounded by mountains and beaches, this area is ideal for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers.

This property can accommodate 24 guests in 11 bedrooms’
