The cottage is superb very clean spacious and warm. Lovely gardens ideal for the dog. Location was excellent, superb local coastal walks and the North beach at Scarborough is open for dogs until 1st May. Robin Hood Bay was a great visit the kids spent a lit of time exploring the rocks for fossils, and the fish n chips there outstanding. Thanks so much. Craig Family

  • "General cleanliness was not up to scratch."

In the kitchen there were crumbs near the toaster. Ovev/baking trays were dirty &also the chopping boards. The conservatory needed cleaning ( cobwebs). The main bathroom shower head bracket was broken. Some of the furniture looked a bit tired & in need of updating. The freezer compartment was too small for a family.

Thanks for your constructive feedback, we are disappointed that you were not happy with some items in the kitchen - to date we have always had rave reviews. The shower head has been fixed already and we will look at replacing the freezer but we do say in the guest information that we send out in advance that it is just a half size freezer. Thanks again. We couldn't fault anything. There was a lovely welcome parcel, the house was very clean, lots of space in all the rooms and so comfy. The attention to detail was excellent. Plenty of car parking space on the drive, good, secure garden area for the dog, and relaxing on the garden furniture too. I took my firestick which I use to stream films and box sets etc, hoping the WiFi speed would be quick enough stream without any buffering. I wasn't disappointed. I did a speed test and got just short of 40mbs,excellent. You won't be disappointed with applegarth. It's the best cottage we've ever stayed in.

Thank you so much for taking the time to pass on your comments, we really do appreciate it. We try to make the cottage as cosy & comfortable as possible even for those few days when the sun doesn't shine! Property Owner

About the location

CLOUGHTON

Scarborough 4.8 miles; Ravenscar 6.3 miles; Robin Hood's Bay 11.6 miles; Whitby 14.8 miles.

Cloughton lies just under five miles north of Scarborough, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Home to old cottages lining the main street and more modern developments behind, the village boasts an eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional to bring a charming atmosphere to all its visitors, as well as offering a welcoming farm shop where you can pick up any essentials and two pubs on the main street and two on the outskirts. Close by is the popular 'Cinder Track', a disused 23 mile long railway track, that's now used for walking, cycling and horse riding. There is easy access to the Cleveland Way, a long distance trail that hugs the cliff top as it winds its way to Hayburn Wyke, a rocky cove with a waterfall and inn, Robin Hood's Bay and beyond to the north and south to Scarborough. Popular since Victorian times, this vibrant seaside town of Scarborough retains many of its original fine buildings, parks and gardens, as well as its historic castle which overlooks the town. North Bay and South Bay provide two superb stretches of beautiful, golden sandy beaches, popular with families and small children. There are a number of child-friendly activities and many excellent visitor attractions for grown-ups too, including the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough Spa and Scarborough Open Air Theatre for live music. There are plenty of outdoor activities within easy reach too, with golf courses, coastal walks along the Cleveland Way, stunning cycle routes such as the old railway to Whitby, beautiful sailing and championship quality surfing, offering something for every taste. Ideally situated for touring both the coast and countryside, Cloughton is an ideal base for a fun-filled break at any time of year.
