"We really enjoyed our stay here - Cragg Vale is fascinating - the sound of water flowing down in the vale (Turvin Clough) is so soothing."
Gorgeous spot for exploring Calderdale. Comfortable and clean. The welcome pack and supply of tea, coffee and milk is a lovely touch. We will be back!! Craggies just up the road is a must for breakfast as well as for prepared meals as take aways. We walked miles and really had a lovely time.
"A very comfortable property with everything we needed for a memorable holiday."
The instructions for finding it were very good and everything in the property was as per the website description. We would be very happy to make a return visit if in the area.
"The fact that this is the second time we have stayed in Hove Wood View this year speaks volumes."
The treats that Helen leaves on arrival is a lovely touch and it was good to meet her (briefly) again when on her rounds, and she couldn't be more helpful and accommodating. This is an ideal spot for touring the Calderdale Valley - and particularly for visiting Hebden Bridge, where we used to live many years ago. The Robin Hood Inn just down the road serves excellent food at reasonable prices, and we still have a number of friends in the area, so this proves to be the perfect location to meet up with them all. The scenery is great too!
"The cottage was very well equipped with all the facilities we required and had many personal touches which made us feel very welcome."
It's location was peaceful and picturesque with good access to local attractions. We enjoyed a very relaxing weekend.
"Lovely cottage and clear instructions from Helen on how to gain access and places to visit in the area."
The views from the back were fabulous so it was great to sit outside. The only downside was the sloping roof upstairs, as you have to be careful when you get out of bed that you don’t hit your head. It wasn’t really a problem for me as I’m quite short! We did get out and about visiting Hebden Bridge, Hardcastle Craag, the Brontë village(Tadworth) and some lovely pubs- the White House and Top Brink Inn, plus bought a few pies for the journey home from Craggies Farm shop.
"Really nice accommodation which was very clean, comfortable, well equipped with a nice view."
The host was so welcoming and provided many little extras which was very kind and made it a lovely stay. Unfortunately there was no secure outside space for a dog and it was on a busy road. Although it didn’t spoil our stay I think people with dogs need to be made aware of it before booking as it would make a difference . You need to use the car each day to take the dog out for walks .
"Very nice cottage in an ideal area for walking in the Calder Valley."
"Well appointed, very well equipped and spotlessly clean."
A delightful owner. Lovely area to explore.
"2nd stay at these cottages, again can't fault them."
Lovely welcome pack including wines and chocolates. Very well equipped. Well equipped for dogs too! Comfy beds. Hopefully be back for a third stay in 2024.
"Lovely property overlooking country side and very quiet."
Helen was very nice come to check we was ok . There was everything you could possibly need there for a nice holiday. Many thanks , Helen .
"Helen was brilliant."
Kept us informed of every detail. Information provided and so very useful. Although we didn't cook etc everything was provided. Basic supplies were provided. Which was really appreciated. Would highly recommend both the owner and agent.
"We had a really lovely stay at Hove Wood View while we walked part of the Pennine Way."
There were really thoughtful touches like wine and chocolates, and even a towel we could use to dry our dog (who managed to fall in a bog on the second day). It was the perfect place to come back to after a day's walking: hot and powerful shower, well-equipped kitchen to cook a meal and a lovely view! Highly recommended!
"Lovely cottage clean and well maintained."
Was a little disappointed that it was situated next to a road with traffic noise. The bedrooms are rather small and only full headroom in half the space which was not obvious from the details.
"Lovely location and very good value."
"Thoroughly loved our accommodation at Cragg cottages."
Stayed in the cottage closet to the entrance gate. Beautiful views out of the dining room looking across the valley. All utilities in cottage were great although the bedding and pillows could do with an update. Hope to visit again.
"The holiday cottage was as last year when we stayed."
Clean and comfortable very well equipped with everything you could need. Helen even provided dog bowls blankets and towels for our two dogs. And tea , coffee and milk for us when we arrived. she really is a wonderful hostess, we will be back again next year.
"Cottage was beautifully located and amenities were carefully and thoughtfully provided."
Never been to a cottage with so many thoughtful amenities, was lovely. Upstairs was lovely and beds were very comfortable. Down side was the heavy strong smell of dog downstairs, the quite steep drop over the wall (not great for small children or bounding doggies), no garden and the very busy road the cottage is directly on. But I’m sure had I read the write ups I would have been more aware of these slight drawbacks. Overall a pleasant stay with a very thoughtful owner.
"The property is in a good location with excellent views, and is a pleasant place to sit outside and relax."
The owner provided some nice extras and made us feel welcome.
"A lovely comfy cottage in a great location."
We felt very much at home and enjoyed the welcome pack. This was a family visit for us so we weren’t able to make the most of the wonderful countryside on our doorstep. We would recommend the venue and location.
"A really lovely place to stay with all the amenities you need and plenty of room, sad to leave."
The best equipped we’ve ever had. Helen the owner was wonderful and couldn’t do enough for us. Thankyou Helen for the little gifts dotted about and the lovely welcome pack. Fabulous views from the cottage
"The cottage is extremally well kitted out with everything you would need for a comfortable stay."
Helen left us some milk and home-made cake for our late arrival in the middle of the night. The area is very peaceful, beautiful and there are some lovely small villages close by. We would look to stay there again when we are back in the area.
"We had a lovely week, the welcome food gifts and trip recommendations from Helen were excellent, and really assisted us."
The homemade fruit cake was delicious!
"We feel although the cottage is dog friendly it’s not necessarily dog safe ."
Apart from that the cottage was homely and cosy and we enjoyed our stay in the stunning surroundings.
"The cottage is in a fantastic location with stunning views."
The facilities in the cottage were above expectations. The host Helen was so welcoming and made sure you had everything you needed and the local information folder she provided was really helpful. Also, the welcoming gifts were not expected but enhanced the whole experience of staying there. A proper Yorkshire welcome.
"Very pleasant host thank you Helen."
Smaller than expected from the images however not uncomfortable. Clean property however a musty loft smell / pets. Overall reasonable accommodation for a good price. Location was the key to enjoying our stay as the scenery is stunning and magical with some incredible walks in nature oozing with history.
"Amazing cottage and venue."
Helen extremely friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us
"Fantastic cottage in lovely location, with a very warm welcome."
Everything provided, great host and great stay. Will be back again - thank you.
"Brilliant stay and the owner was a very genuine and helpful person"
"I have rented many holiday cottages in Calderdale in the past, with my late wife."
I can honestly say this is the most comfortable and well set out holiday home I have ever rented. I shall return without a doubt.
"Very well equipped, nice setting, and ideal for a short break."
"Comfortable, warm, well-equipped."
Stunning views across and down the valley with lovely walks right from the door. Cragg Vale is a lovely spot, criss-crossed with well-waymarked paths. The only nitpick was that the cottage description didn't make it clear that Hove Wood View is the middle cottage in a terrace of three - we thought it would be detached and standing on its own. That said, it was spacious enough and didn't spoil our fortnight. This was the 30th cottage we've stayed in and is one of the best.
"The cottage was extremely well equipped and everything one might need on arrival was provided."
The only reason for marking the Comfort down was the restricted headroom in the double bedroom.

About the location
Hebden Bridge 3.7 miles; Todmorden 8.1 miles; Halifax 8.9 miles.
The beautiful Pennine village of Cragg Vale is situated on the steep and winding Cragg Road and is the longest incline in England, still a major challenge to cyclists. The road winds its way up to beautiful heather-clad moorland, 1000 feet above sea level, and wooded cloughs and babbling brooks that cascade down the hillsides beckon the walker to explore the countryside. On the other side of the valley is the village of Luddenden and the glorious oak woodlands that make up Jerusalem Farm, a local nature reserve made famous by TV's In Loving Memory. In fact, this beautiful area has also featured in TV shows Happy Valley and Last Tango in Halifax. Nearby Hebden Bridge is a diverse and bohemian town home to restaurants, bars, bistros, markets, an independent cinema, art galleries, and the picturesque Rochdale Canal. A scenic car ride over the moors takes you to the splendid Parsonage Museum which commemorates the famous Bronte family. The area is a must for steam railway enthusiasts who will enjoy the thriving Worth Valley Railway. Skipton, "Gateway to the Dales", is also an easy and scenic car ride away.
