  • "Property is exactly what we wanted for disabled persons holiday"

    Reviewed by Anthony5.0Sep 2024

  • "Sunday cottage was fine and had everything we needed."

The biggest drawback was the long, quite steep ramp access from the car to the cottage. Not good for anyone disabled. the other problem was communicating with Sykes, I waited an hour on the phone to talk to them, only to be told to ask for ringback, which never happened! just impossible trying to talk to anyone from Sykes, so I shall not bother in future, even though we have used Sykes many times.

  • "Lovely property that has great facilities for my elderly mother who has mobility issues."

We loved the fact they each of the 3 bedrooms has its own en-suite. Set in a beautiful location overlooking Grosmont. The only negative is the limited parking which is just for one car. We had two cars but did find parking on the road close by. Overall a great holiday destination.

VERY WELL EQUIPPED ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING YOU COULD NEED. THE HOUSE WAS SPOTLESS AND WAS DONE TO A VERY HIGH STANDARD. THE DISABLED FACILITIES WERE SUPERB.

We had a great week where my mum could be independent. Grosmont is gorgeous and the steam trains disability friendly too. All perfect.

We had a couple of issues - the fire alarm and the sink in the downstairs bedroom but both were sorted straight away and the owner was really friendly. The disabled facilities were perfect for my Mum. Thank you for providing such a beautiful place to spend a few days.

The only feedback that we have would be that the option to split the double bed into 2 singles would also be helpful.

  • "Starting with parking, I have a large WAV luckily no one else was in he other accommodation so we had plenty of space but I could see it being problematic if more vehicles there."

The cottage itself is excellent, clean, tidy and modern the disabled bedroom has a ceiling hoist from bedroom into the large wet room. I could get around the bed in my manual wheelchair but maybe not in an electric one. All in all the pros outweighed the cons, after a lovely stay I would certainly recommend it to others.

  • "We came with our disabled teenage daughter."

I had seen a picture online of the disabled parking place. We have a large WAV and found parking difficult just wanted to mention it for anyone thinking of booking. The parking space is near the ramp to the cottage, we had to park sideways which made it difficult to drive out of the space as there are parking spaces for the other cottages next to the space. The non disabled spaces were bigger and would have been better for our vehicle. Also if you have a large powered wheelchair there is not enough room in the disabled bedroom. A lovely cottage if you do not have any mobility problems.

  • "It was a lovely well equiped property and we really enjoyed our stay."

The facilities for the lottle boy we has on holiday was great. So many things to do in the area. It is hilly though if you are a wheelchair user. Beach wheel chairs in Whitby to hire and if you book early enough wet wheels yorkshire have boats.

  • "Very good cottage to stay in."

A little steep from parking area, but managed ok. We had a very enjoyable holiday. A very lovely village to stay in, plus not to far to get to the coast.

  • "I found the accommodation faultless in all respects."

As a wheelchair user my daughter particularly enjoyed the freedom of being able to do things like use the shower that she would normally have rquired assistance with. The owners could not have been more gracious and helpful throughout and everything possible to make our stay a comfortable one had been done.

  • "‘Sunday Cottage’ is the second half of a beautiful Sunday school conversion."

The access is by a steep ramp, best viewed on pictures of ‘Limber View’, the first half of the conversion. The property is immaculate with everything you could possibly need. The views are stunning and there was nothing nicer than looking out across the countryside and listening to the steam trains coming into the station. The disabled facilities were excellent - hoist, profiling bed, wet room. The space around the bed was a little tight for the wheelchair, but Jill, the helpful owner explained that the furniture was on castors and could be moved. We had a very enjoyable stay and hope to come again!

  • "We have just returned from a very comfortable week in this extremely well equipped holiday cottage."

I have never found , for example, a cheese grater, set of scales and measuring jug in any similar establishment before. I needed to use the disabled bedroom, which was everything I needed, spacious, very well planned and comfortable. Plenty of hanging space & drawers, good bed and warm. There is a gentle eccentricity to the washbasin plumbing, which took some working out, the " plug", and the 45 seconds it took for the hot water to emerge, once the lever tap was pushed right round to the right, but once I'd fathomed that out all went swimmingly. One warning though! The key safe is fiddly, and positioned right over a drain! Take care! I'd go there again, happily.

  • "I chose Sunday Cottage because my husband is sevrely disabled and reading what the owners said online about their personal experience of caring for a disabled person I felt confident that the accommodation would be suitable."

The disabled suite is very good except that the toilet did not flush well and the seat was very flimsy and loose. A major difficulty was getting my husband seated comfortably and a great deal of help was needed to get him up once he sat down. I took a riser chair for granted when I booked. Huge mistake and a major cause of difficulty during our stay. The Cottage is very attractive and well presented but there is a definitely room for improvement. I believe a riser chair has been ordered which is a very good thing for future users.

  • "Very clean, well equipped, warm and cosy."

Wet room and disabled facilities well provided. The only problem I had was that the cottage was situated high on a hill with steep access to and from. My partner is a big man in a wheelchair with only one leg and is constantly in a wheelchair. I am a very small, frail woman with arthritic wrists and without the help of relatives who joined us for the stay, it would have been impossible for me to push my partner from the car, up a very steep incline to the cottage. When I booked our stay at first there was only going to be the 2 of us. If that was the case, then we wouldn't have been able to access the property.

However, we felt a TV in the bedrooms upstairs would be welcome. The double bed mattress was in need of an upgrade, far too soft and a king size would be better. The rooms were spacious and could take a chair in the room also. The kitchen was well thought out and contained items that you might forget to put in your bag to bring with you like kitchen roll, kitchen foil etc.,the welcome pack was a lovely surprise. Any negatives are only personal and do not detract from the quality of the property. The underfloor heating is awesome. There are not many properties that cater for people with mobility issues in such a nice way, so, well done to the owners. It is definitely 5 star.
